A lot of choices seem to end up with "so and so group or faction" shows up in the final battle, but does that actually affect anything substantial or is it just for show?

I had a shield oscillator on my chest that gave me 25% shields back after each kill, double mod slots on my weapon with an augment that made it so I did 20% more power damage when clip was full, which was always since I had a Remnant Sweeper that had heatsink mechanic, two biotic power augments that gave 10% biotic power damage on my rifle, my chest, arms, legs, and chest had a total of 13 biotic power augments that gave me a combined 26% extra biotic power damage, a mod for my chest that gave me 15% less gun damage but 50% increased recharge speed, and I had my Lance skill set to consume shields instead of having a cooldown.

Shit was overpowered as fuck. Only way it could have been more perfect is if I had gotten the chest mod that gives you longer power recharge time but resets your cooldown with each kill.

I haven't decided yet, haven't gotten to use too many, mostly wore armor based on what stats I wanted for my build. Like last playthrough was all N7 armor, because it gets you the highest possible biotic damage boost and the shield boost is a bonus.

This reminds me, some of these sidequests clearly have combat tacked on in a way that doesn't make much sense to the story. Like in this one, the best ending is to talk down Akksul and his followers non violently. Jaal explicitly says that just killing him will make it look like another revenge killing or even alien aggression, and ruin the whole message. Yet apparently no one minds that the alien war leader, his minigun-wielding raptor gf, and the guy already accuses of being an alien sympathizer gunned down forty angarans with miniguns and sniper rifles just to get into the building? They didn't kill someone's personal friend? Also no one minds them self-defensing another eight roekarr they run into literally two minutes later on the walk back? ME2 had this same problem at times but it usually wasn't this blatant.

Still not quite as bad as the sidequest with the space whales though.

Their attacks felt pretty underpowered even on Normal (though according to the statistics screen they still got 1/3 of kills, guess I'm just generous), I can't imagine how little damage they do on Insanity if that's not the case.
