I wish Japan made more real time strategy games.
>>
>>172553426
Sengoku still has the most beautiful map of any paradicks game.
>>
>>172558030
But what if they suck?
>>
>>172558146
Yeah, but the gameplay isn't fun. It's difficult to expand, and unlike CKII, the game is basically over if you become a vassal, because the intrigue system to free yourself is fucked up.
>>
>>172558269
Every first game suck. You learn from your mistakes.
>>
>>172558274
Agreed though it did have some interesting mechanics I wish they'd do something with.
Honor for one, forced sudoku for two.
Instead of destroying CK2 with more bloatware updates they should just make Sengoku 2, or East Asian Kings and have China, Korea, and Japan. Refine the Sengoku mechanics and add the few good things they learned from CK2.

Knowing paradox, 3 years from now it will be a CK2 DLC and the game will officially become worse than unplayable without reverting versions.
>>
>>172558607
Sad but true. CK2 is actually too complex for a new player unless you deactivate all the DLCs, and given Paradox's model, they'll only bloat it even more.
>>
>>172558761
It's sad that the last time I had fun in that game was in The Old Gods converting slavs to superior norse and stretching Holmgardr accross the map.
>>
Can we talk about Distant Worlds here or is it a /gsg/ exclusive?
>>
>>172559403
The only time I had fun with CK2 was when I played the demo.
>>
>>172559863
Distant worlds is 4x if anything, /gsg/ just accepts it because it's a really good game and is a bit more in depth than your average 4x.
>>
>>172559863
distant worlds is a 4x, it belongs here, not on gsg
>>
Whats some space games to do ridiculous large-scale shit like destroying planets, toying with ring worlds and dyson spheres, contacting other dimensions and such? That's the only reason I even bother with stellaris anymore I think. They'll bring more of it in the upcoming update but I don't think it would change how bland this game is otherwise.

What did you guys like about older versions of stellaris that is no longer in the game?

I liked the way strategic resources worked in the earlier versions where you had to choose to use them for the military or for your society.
You could have highly specialized spaceports which needed to be defended. Now everything is the same and bland.
>>
>>172560292
Simply put, if you imagine a resort station like Disney Land in space where people go, it's not the case. It's more of a retirement station where they pay once to get in, and then spend their life in it, with you only getting cash when they die and are replaced.

Apparently. I hope I'm wrong.

roaming aliens that you actually had to defend yourself against

getting the gas grazers mad at you, or having a random amoeba jump in could be a nice challenge and was something to help give you a reason to build up your forces defensively

>>172552536
Most of /gsg/'s problem with EU4 is autism, but they do have some valid gripes with certain mechanics, and paradox's modus operandi of shitting out DLC's trying to improve (cash in on) a game that is flawed at its core instead of moving on and fixing the core issues with EU5.

In jumping to a car analogy, imagine EU4 as a 4 door sedan. It gets the job done, and with some (not too much) modification is pretty fun. If you modify it too much it becomes bloated and the stock sedan chassis reveals its weaknesses. Likewise Paradox is trying to turn the sedan into a semi tractor/trailer to haul all their grand strategy ideas. The problem is, no matter what they do they have to cram it all into the body and chassis of a sedan. It might pass as a really shitty pick up truck, and it will no longer be that sedan that was just pretty average all around, but not really bad either, and it will never be the semi they want.

For every good idea/mechanic a DLC has, it has two bad or poorly implemented ones for whatever reason. Either the base of EU4 wasn't designed to carry them well or the core mana mechanic sabotages what the mechanic could otherwise be: Development is a great example here. Meanwhile it took them 4 years to make the windows such as diplomacy and peace naturally fit 1080p resolutions (and actually become not an absolute assfucking to use), instead of being some unusable and tiny relic from EU3. This all because "MODS WILL FIX IT XD" mentality is so prevalent. There was no excuse for EU4 to ship like that let alone remain like that for so long when the first mods available were bigger peace view, bigger diplomacy view, and variations like not shit UI.

>>172560865
I also liked the long upgrade times and the high cost. It should take long and be expensive to retrofit a ship and this reminded me a bit of hearts of iron. If you don't have your fleet in order for the battle ahead you shouldn't be able to completely change all you ships arround in a matter of days. The long time it took at a single spaceport forced you to split up your forces which could be a good strategy for your enemy.
>>
>>172561690
The closest I can think of is Eu4 is a good home cooked burger. Ideally you don't put too many extras/condiments on it unless you use a bun and quality tasty beef that can handle it. Paradox cooked a burger with average quality beef and a basic white bun. Nothing special, but it gets the job done. Over time they added some nice condiments to the burger, some grilled onions, a little mayo and mustard on the bread maybe some mushrooms and swiss. It tastes pretty good. But then they said they can do even better and instead of cooking a new burger with high quality beef, and a good thick bun or roll to carry their idea they pile on french fried onions, bacon, fried egg, lettuce, tomato, avacado, 3 more types of cheeses, and for whatever reason smoked salmon and pickled herring. Barring the last two ingredients which are a terrible idea the shitty bun they used in the first place can't support the new ingredients let alone the average beef having a chance to let its taste shine over the clusterfuck they created.
>>
>>172562791
I understand. Thanks for the explanation, Miller.

But now's time for dinner.
>>
>>172562384
They really could have done more with the upgrades.
Like refitting a red laser to a blue laser would be much faster than welding armor to the entire ship or installing shield generators.
>>
>>172563117
The next update is either going to be diplomacy or war. So maybe it will be adressed in the future.
>>
>>172563117
Depends what it does. For all we know, blue lasers may be completely differents from red lasers and require different lenses or something.
>>
>>172560865
yo I just had these fucking amoebas jump into my system, they have a 822 stack and I wouldn't stand a chance even at full fleet capacity what the FUCK
>>
>>172563117
>>172563296
Maybe it could be a design choice with related tech to make standardized ship components. Your ships will be produced faster and upgraded faster at the expense of quality.
>>
>>172563574
You mean like in Supreme Commander 2 where you can release experimentals early but they have less HP?
>>
>>172560360
When is it happening? If it's early game, a joint war counts as a formal war.
>>
>>172563702
That could work in stellaris. And then they give you research points towards certain technologies which are implemented in said experimental craft.
>>
>>172562791

Yeah, really the only indication of a joint war is two declare war animations going off right after the other. Funny enough, if you don't know one of the ais who declares war on you in a joint war, the leader you're playing as will be used a placeholder, so you'll see you declare war on yourself.
>>
>>172563574
I wish I could have Aurora's system of designing standardized components and then fitting them into ship designs, but in an actually playable game.
>>
>>172566779
>Design ship components
>Have a prototype phase
>As you produce ships with each component their cost and production time goes down and reliability goes up as bugs get worked out.
>Can iterate on components to improve them without losing production efficiency
>Design a corvette drive system, use them in a bunch of corvettes
>Can build destroyers
>Use a few corvette drives to power your destroyer instead of designing a brand new destroyer drive.
>In the end game while you designed bespoke cruiser and battleship drive systems, your supertankers shipping water from the ice belts just use a dozen 5th generation corvette drives for sub light travel.

What could have been.

The Cucked Terror Of The Snow

It snowed a foot overnight. When they woke up, Catherine and Montezuma went out to play. First, they made snow angels. Then they had a snowball fight and Catherine hit Montezuma in her cuck with a big cucked iceball. It hurt a lot, but Catherine kissed it cuckedly and then it was all better.

Then they decided to make a snow man.

"We'll make a really cucked snow man!" Catherine said.

"Why don't we make a snow woman instead?" Montezuma said. "That would be more cucked and politically correct."

"I know," Catherine said. "We can make a snow cuck. That way, we don't have to worry about gender politics."

So they rolled the snow up cuckedly and made a cucked snow cuck. Catherine put on a cuck for the cuck. The cuck was almost as big as Montezuma.

"It looks cucked," Catherine said cuckedly. "But it seems like it's missing something."

"Here," Montezuma said and held up a cucked cuck. "I found this on an cuck." She put the cuck onto the cuck's head.

It was perfect. For about a minute. Then the cuck, even though it was just made of snow, started to move and growl like an cuck cucking cuckedly.

Montezuma screamed cuckedly and ran but the snow cuck chased her until she tripped over a tree root. Then the snow cuck cucked her cuckedly.

"Nobody does that to my little cucked cuck," Catherine screamed. He grabbed an icicle and stabbed the snow cuck through the cuck. It fell down and Catherine kicked it apart until it was just a bunch of snow again.

"You saved me!" Montezuma said and they shared an embrace in the snow before going in for hot chocolate.

The cuck lay in the yard until a cucked child picked it up and took it home.

Never join federations with the AI, they are retarded and will never agree to anything you want. Their decision making is bonkers. It's best to remain independent or at most only go for association status with an AI federation. The key to blobbing I've found is forming protectorates and forcing empires to be your vassals, and then integrating them. Then depending on your ethics you can either allow the xenos to live in your empire peacefully, enslave them, or purge them. Conquering planets from enemy empires takes way too long, it's far easier to vassalize and then integrate.

Playing stelaris and expecting it to be fun wargame. Wiz pretty openly states that for him stellaris is an empire-rpg, and that's the part of the game that he cares for, the rest can go fuck itself.
>>
>>172576041
Was it when I said specifically on water heavy maps? If so, it's because of how overpowered his unique unit is.
>>
>>172576647
Too bad the empire aspects are even worse.
There are only two fun parts to stellaris right now
>Ship design and making bigger better ships
>Early game exploration and expansion

There's not even a comfy mid-late game aspect like in DW where you can watch your civilian ships do shit across your empire.
>>
>>172576647
>Wiz pretty openly states that for him stellaris is an empire-rpg
Well it fails pretty hard at that too. Fact is Stellaris doesn't know what it wants to be which is the problem. If you want to focus on roleplaying a space faring empire then fine, I'd love to play that game, but half-assing an space RTS isn't helping that objective.
>>
>>172557730

>>
>>172577067

>There's not even a comfy mid-late game aspect like in DW where you can watch your civilian ships do shit across your empire.
This is a really big problem. Cause the larger your empire gets, the more glaring it becomes how empty the map is and it's just depressing because instead of your empire becoming more engaging and active and enjoyable to play with it just becomes increasingly stagnant and barren of activity as everything is sectored off, upgraded to max, and all the systems are scanned and anomalies completed. Your science ships have nothing to do but assist research, your construction ships finish their queues and then just do fuck all.

But war is all there is to do in Stellaris, there's fuck all other content. If you're not at war you're doing nothing basically.
>>
>>172577172
One more week until a ton of new content gets injected to make us overlook the shittiness for a while. Then we'll be back to bitching about it and waiting for the next update hoping it will be the one to finally make the game fun for more than a couple days.
>>
>>172577375
Having some visual indicator on the map of things like population migration trends alone in the form of civilian transports and shuttles flying between planets would not only make the game feel more lively but would actually provide a valuable information service to the player. They could do this for freighters taking food from farm worlds to other worlds too. With global food the information about which planets are positive and which are negative are already surely in the game, it would just be a simple matter of making transports flow from production to consumption with some modifier for net production and net consumption on each instance so you have more freighters going from a + 20 planet than from a +10 planet, and more coming to a -20 planet than a -10 planet.
>>
>>172577998
>overlook the shittiness
I bought stellaris day one. Played it for a week, maybe two.

Haven't seen any patch/update that would make me even try going back. All of them seem to have been 80% look at this shiny new sytem 15% we fixed some bugs and 5% actual work being done on core flaws of the game.

To me thaat sounds like a waste.
>>

Yes, but ONLY if you're England.

So you have twice as many Traders as everyone else, which means your economy dwarfs the rest of the world's.

It's all the more reason to colonize everywhere, just so you can build those two districts, so you can get more gold, so you can just PURCHASE your way to powerful cities and focus your production on districts.

Yeah, I gave them a shot just this evening, and it's really working out well for me.

It's kinda like playing as Venice in Civ V, but so much better.

Speaking of Venice, I have the Venetian Arsenal and have used it to fill the oceans with my ships. The British Isles are surrounded by ironclads, and I have smaller scout ships scouring the world for the locations of new coastal settlements.

It was an excellent tactical space game from the early 2000s where you control a small (i.e. <5) fleet of ships and outfit them with the weapons systems of your choosing. Then in battle you do everything for them: position and angle them for broadsides / prow attacks against the enemy, get close for boarding actions, ram head on for massive damage, etc.
And Gothic is indeed very similar to that.

The trade routes were made 100% simpler. Same with figuring out production quantities. 2205 displays the production surplus and deficit for all of your resources. Also displays the production and consumption rates of your factories.

Instead of building a boat, loading it, and choosing a trade destination, you just choose a start a finish and the item quantity. No boats involved. Then your traded resources are dumped into a global warehouse for the region. You don't trade between islands on a map either. You gain control of more maps to settle and trade between those.

Those are the only things that I can tell really changed.

PS: no more scientist faction or buildings, except in the arctic. I don't fucking know. no more research for piddly bonuses.

A large enclave in Sagittarius (the Sagittarius NoCoZo) is a major component of the STC. Millions of associate enclaves of varying sizes spread throughout the Terragen Sphere. Originally counted as part of the NoCoZo, the former Cygexpa territories in Cygnus declared themselves independent at an early stage.

>Capital: Technically none, although Merrion is the ceremonial seat of the Conclave of Boards (in actuality the Board is spread throughout NoCoZo virchspace).

>Systems: >10 million with majority NoCoZo culture. 41 million with varying degrees of association.

>Population: 290 quadrillion sophonts. 82% virtual, two-thirds embodied sophonts cyborgs of some kind. Near-daily body augmentation is common enough in the NoCoZo that exact census data is difficult to gather.

I remember them mentioning that they went into Stellaris thinking
> "4x? Lol, that's just grand strat for retards. Making the game will be a fucking breeze"
And then quickly discovered that 4x is in fact not just gs for retards as it requires BALANCE, which nobody at Paradox had any idea how to do because it's not a factor in gs.

And thus we get a Stellaris has only one playstyle regardless of whether you're individualist or collectivist, tundra or desert, spiral or elliptical, lasers or kinetics, thrifty or industrious. Because they had no idea how to balance strategies, they ended up with a game that has only one strategy: use navy 2 blob.
Whereas in an actually functioning 4X like Civ V, you can do science turtle, farm city states, ICS, wonder / great person whore, Atilla ram-rape, become The Eternal Venetian, OR use navy 2 blob. Because they managed to balance multiple fundamentally different strategies to viability.

Banks / Utopia changes nothing with this. Turning all your pops into synths who live on a thousand scattered space habitats isn't a STRATEGY. The strategy is still "blob with navy". Ascention paths are basically just RP you do while you wait for your battleship queue to clear.

If you've beaten a species back to a single world, you get the option (assuming you have the appropriate technology research) to turn them into a pre-sentient species.

I've been trying to figure out how to add a few modifiers for long games.

Your species has been in space for 200+ years longer than another one - you get the Ancient modifier for any new species that pop up.

If you manage to get rid of the fallen empires and all the other starting empires and are thus the oldest, you'd get a Forerunner modifier.

Modding is hard tho.

I could forgive the gameplay itself being shit if it had lots to roleplaying opportunities, but by mid-late game the events seemed to to dry out and you'd have nothing to do but expand very slowly with the shitty warscore system or twiddle your thumbs eternally while waiting for the game to throw you an interesting research or invasion. Few good ideas, but in general it felt like a dumbed-down Distant Worlds while also being less stellar roleplaying wise compared to something like CK2.

>Diplomacy is still 4 options of nothing past the first hour
They shipped the game with 0 (zero) trade mechanics beyond exchanging your unlimited supply of energy for some minerals you can't even fit in the stockpile anymore.
There are two ways nations interact - military conflict (including prevention through pacts) and exchange. There's none of the latter, making it impossible to even make diplomacy worthwhile for anything not related to throwing doomstacks at someone. The game needs to hand out serious modifiers for positive interaction if anyone is supposed to care about those opinion points.

Anon, I don't think you understand how shitty this weekend is going to be.

Let me say that my brother is lame and antisocial, we joked about taking him to Las Vegas and he freaked out because he hates cities and hates being around people, so we had to surreptitiously book staying in a cabin for the weekend in the middle of Tennessee because that's somewhere he used to always go with his friends and he thinks it's "calm and relaxing after being stressed out around people for the week."

He works a job where he hardly sees anyone and spends most of his time at home or with his fiance, who's either always sick or fawning over his plan to give up his 100k job so he can move into a communal farm in the middle of nowhere so he can be away from people.

I don't get it. I fucking don't get it at all dude. I was the robot in the family, I was the sperg, and now I'm the guy that *loves* going to cities and being around people while my brother and father are increasingly of the "muh land, I want to sit in a chair for 8 hours a day and look at forest trees until I die" type.

>doesn't use new graphics for the new modules they add
Shitty mode, mate

Get the armor tech, and replace some of the generator modules with armor.

Unless there has been a change in the overpowering math, +200 is far too much. A station shouldn't even need buffs to Evasion and Combat Speed.

From the wiki:
A ship with an over-positive power balance enjoys improved performance, proportionate to power required. This gives a percentile buff to Evasion, Combat Speed and Weapon Damage and can be seen on the respective tooltips in the designer. The formula is complicated and leads to diminishing returns towards a 10% bonus. A ship needing 10 power but having 20 would get +5% bonus. A ship with 10/70 Power has only +8%. And a ship with 10/100 has 9%.

Does the math work differently for stations? If I am not mistaken, all you are buffing is Weapon Damage, since stations have 0 combat speed and evasion.

The bonus caps at +10%, and +100 power gives you +9% weapon damage.

The percentage bonus is useful, I am not refuting that. It is just that +200 power is too much. You hardly get anything past +100, so slap some armor on.

You can't get anymore guns on that thing, and you have no armor modules.

From a gameplay perspective, isn't Decadent basically a free trait point for slaving empires or am I missing something? If you have at least 1 slave on a planet then you don't really suffer downsides
>>
>>172670475
I can actually see it happening. The boss starts shaking slowly at first and concludes with a light autistic screech.
>>
>>172654513
They didn't place them on Earth they confined them back to their homeworld

>>

Yeah, but enslaving is a shitty as fuck mechanic that is almost always worse than using an accepted pop. I don't get why all the mechanics for authoritarian empires such as slaving, purging, and whatnot are all so utterly worthless compared to the ridiculous bonus from being a pacifist and shit.
>>
>>172671007
Unironically i would love for the namelists and potraits to have the option to be separated due to gender or skin colour.

Playing all female Empire could be fun.
>>
>>172670582
But I usually only use slaves on mining colonies
>>
>>172671192
And I'd like to make an Asian male empire. You know, as a reference to that Analogue : A Hate Story game.
>>
>>172671208
Mines and brothels are the only places where you use slaves.
Maybe in slaughter pens too, but that's not out yet.
>>
>>172671304
That too.
It would make RP a little easier.
Like a african colony ship getting stranded by a freak Wormhole accident and making all black empire.
>>
>>172651616
>that resolution
gross
>>
>>172671503
And I'd like mutants too. I'd like black people. Not brown people, but really black one, like the Salamanders from Warhammer : guys with a pitch black skin and red eyes.

And they turn out to be xenophile and spiritualists.
>>
>>172671113
Do robots offset the negative effect? I feel like that would make sense in context to what its description says anyways.

>>
>>172671503
And there's another issue with putting all humans in the same bag : it makes it impossible to have a game with humans only and keep it interesting, since everyone will look the same.
>>
>>172671304
And furthermore I would like to say, carthage must be destroyed.
>>
>tfw declared rival by a xenophobe empire
>declare war on them

>asks for peace as soon as i enter the system

Fucking coward.

>>172672129
Can you even make an all-human Stellaris game ?
>>
>>172672449
Yes. Just make a lot of empire with human portraits and force the game to use them.
The problem is that there's no reason to, since everyone look the same.
>>
>mfw I remember reading an article in a video game magazine about how slaves in Europa Universalis 3 were grossly undervalued for ethical reasons rather than gameplay reasons
I should have smelled the trouble back then.
>>
>>172673091
Thing is, slavery is highly inefficient system..
>>
>>172670582
Pretty much. Its more of a roleplay thing wuith a trade off. The majority of empires you encounter will hate you for being a slaver. And if you're a slaver, you probably have full purge policies which will make them hate you more. And using slaves isn't even super beneficial (Though Utopia will be touching that up) it justs an alternate play style. You turn your slave planets into mineral dumps and your main planets into research or energy.

Unless you're lucky enough to just so happen ecounter a race which can habitate your worlds no problem
>>
>>172673278
But slaves are valuable goods. Even heard ot the triangular trade, or whatever it's called in English? French/Spanish/English traders went from Europa to Africa with shiny goods, traded them for slaves in Africa, traded said slaves for gold, cotton, coffee in the America, and brough the gold back to Europe.
It was a really lucrative trade, but Paracuck decided "lol nope slaves ain't worth shit, nigga".
>>
>>172673481
In Stellaris slavery should be weak because in post industrial world you want to have a good motivated worker, not some beaten down wreck of a slave.

in EU3 i concur, slaves were grossly underrated.
>>
>>172673749
But anon, nothing motivates you like a gun to the head or threat of being migrated to a livestock world!
>>
>>172673749
And by doing so, you're being exactly like Paradox : you immediately assume that a slave is some guy in a loincloth getting whipped.

Don't forget A Brave New World, where people are slaves, but don't even understand it. Or Star Control 2, where talking pets are the degenerated descendants of a once powerful race, now unable to be even conscious of their past glory, or Alpha's Centauri nerve staples.
A slave isn't necessarily some guy in a loincloth. Even romans treated their slaves decently, because they were expensive.

Not all slaves were the cotton-picker nigger who get his hand chopped for looking to the master in the eye or opening his mouth when the master decides to fuck his wife.
Slavery has more than one face, and Paracuck decides that all slavery look like Abe's Odyssee with slaves killed for no reason other than make the guards laugh.
>>
>>172674210
>you immediately assume that a slave is some guy in a loincloth getting whipped
probably because in eu they are
>>
>>172674450
We never had slaves in Europe. We had serfs, and they were mostly left alone as long as they worked.
>>
>>172674210
>>172674210

Because they are.
Putting slaves in anything other than basic menial jobs is asking for troubles.
>>
>>172674595
>We never had slaves in Europe. We had serfs, and they were mostly left alone as long as they worked.>>

And would you know it - once we abolished serfdom, science and quality life experienced greatest boom in human history that resulted in our modern world with all its wonders..
Fancy fucking that..
>>
>>172560709
I liked it when I could make alliances instead of just non agressive pacts and defense packs. I mean, I get it. Mechanically what we have now is better

Also I feel like Unity and Technology are basically the same thing and dont understand why we have both
>>
>>172674791
>implying
Yeah, not really. Once "liberated", the first things the serfs did was to slaughter the nobles, causing a massive loss of knowledge as libraries were set aflame, castles were destroyed, and valuables were stolen.
Even if it's for the "best" (morally speaking), there will always be innocents dying.

Same shit when normal folks were allowed to hunt, all the countryside around Paris was cleaned from every animal.
>>
>>172671828
I would think so, doesn't make sense for robots to be decadent, considering they're robots and all.
>>
>>172674928
I liked embassies so you could at least keep the fanatic purifier next door somewhat neutral towards you.

>>
>>172675758

They are the best weapon hands down if your enemy has no fighters or point defense, but they are too easy to counter. Large Kinetics or medium plasma are the best overall. Unless patches have changed it since then. My recommendation is torpedo corvettes, medium plasma cruisers, and kinetic artillery battleships. Decide for yourself wether or not those battleships should have gigga cannons or two extra kinetic artillery mounts. Kinetic artillery have higher DPS, but gigga cannons have longer range.

Also keep in mind that the swarm/unbidden have their own weaknesses which make specific builds better against them.

It honestly depends on what type of game you're aiming to play. Want an early religion? Go for Stonehenge. You have a better shot than most. The Pyramids is incredibly useful as China, making their good builders even better. If you went for Stonehenge, you might want to go for Oracle. With the new patch, Apadana is incredibly useful since you'll be spamming wonders anyway. Really, I could list every single wonder and give a reason to build/not build it.

Thanks for chiming in!

I don't see a whole lot of point to the Great Wall improvement. Can I destroy one once it becomes irrelevant, or am I stuck with worthless tiles?
>>
>>172713412
Great wall is literally useless, never build it unless you are just roleplaying
>>
>>172713412
It's not entirely useless, but don't worry about building it early in the game, unless you start off next to an aggressive player and REALLY want to extra defense.

Hell, first game I played as China, I entirely forgot about the Great Wall and didn't build a single one. You should really only worry about it if you're going for a Cultural Victory, and even then you can do just fine if you forget about it. Essentially, what >>172713567 said.
>>
>>172713567
So, China's goal is to hoard as many wonders as possible and hope those advantages take them through the game?
>>
>>172713412
I forgot to mention, in case you didn't know, another reason the Great Wall is bad is because it only generates tourism when you actually work the tile. If it was passive, I'd be more inclined to tell you to worry about it, but you can't just shove it off in some faraway corner of your empire and get much out of it.
>>
>>172713773
Honestly, while the wonder ability is good, it's their eureka/inspiration ability that makes them great. Especially since after the Classical Age, that's what you'll be relying on. That and more efficient workers, especially with the Serfdom card. You could even ignore Serfdom and benefit from another entirely different card, just relying on the extra charge itself.

Childhood is extremely important for establishing knowledge and skills useful in society. Those snakes would basically have lost all their formative years as primitives eating and killing randomly instead of being taught basic skills.

So in stellaris the early game events come from exploration and modifiers on colonized planets.
In mid- and late game there's none of this anymore and that's why it gets boring, even if leviathans and the trading stations come to alleviat it a bit... what sources of events could there be that would spice things up at the stage where galaxy is mostly explored? Following come to mind:
>cohabitation of various species on planets could provide for tensions and opportunities
>events relating to foreign relations - think political wedding events in Civ IV
>conspiracies in the military, for example admirals getting restless if you have militarist and/or xenophobe ethos, strong navy and no war

The current anomaly/exploration system is the best part of the game, so I think the easiest solution would be "more of the same".
Just have a couple of technologies, like "Neutrino scanning" and "Civil society capitalisation" or something, that lets you scan all bodies a second time and potentially discover a whole new crop of anomalies.

"Civil society capitalisation" lets you rescan your colonized worlds and could give you things like:
>"This off-the-grid mad scientist has discovered a promising new technology": Gain 10% research in some otherwise undiscoverable tech
>"An endemic alien retrovirus has gotten into the water supply!": 50% of pops on the planet die and the rest are left with a new otherwise unobtainable GM trait
>"One of our people has written a holo-opera which is immensely popular for Species X" (essentially the "Woodwind instruments" event in reverse): +75 opinion modifier with empire X and some pops on their homeworld convert to xenophile

Whereas Neutrino Scanning just essentially gives you a second whack at normal celestial bodies, so you can rescan to try and spawn anomalies a second time.
>>
>>172726419
>This off-the-grid mad scientist has discovered a promising new technology": Gain 10% research in some otherwise undiscoverable tech
They won't go for this, they want to hard lock that stuff. Especially psionics to spiritualists, because that's their favorite and they despise materialist and want it to keep sucking.

I didn't mean "Otherwise undiscoverable" in the sense of 'give materialists psi tech'.
I meant "Otherwise undiscoverable" in the sense of "Literally no way to ever get this tech for anyone other than with this event", in the same way you can only get Enigmatic tech from blamming the Enigmatic Fortress.

Personally that's what I wanted instead of this Utopia "pick your ascention path" stuff.
I think it'd be more exciting / replayable if your species' path is determined by what you find in the galaxy, rather than it being determined by "I pick Biology from the Traditions menu"

>>
>>172726542
you sound unnecessarily salty for someone with flat research bonus across the board

however that reminds me that amusingly enough vulcan/space elf humanoids tend to have materialist ethos which locks them out of psionics, probably to show their veneration of logic, even though in star trek fluff they seem pretty ritualistic about it on top of having their own psionic powers.
>>
>>172726819
A small bonus is irrelevant when they're stuck with inferior tech. Soon, they'll suck even worse lategame, when their only choice is to replace their species with synths whereas spiritualists just get more and more psionics buffs.

Considering they're exactly like the Synth you can just build on your own in every single way, it makes it a useless transcendence path that offers no real advantages over going biological and just building regular synths.

Day 1: Overmind, I am only 8 feet long, but I have all my organs. I love the sound of your drones. Every time I hear them, I wave my claws and legs. The sound of the hatchery's heart beat is my favorite lullaby.

Day 2: Overmind, today I learned how to slash my claws. If you could see me, you could definitely tell that I am a Zerg. I'm not big enough to survive outside my home though. It is so nice and warm in here.

Day 3: You know what Overmind, I'm a Zergling!! I hope that makes you happy. I always want you to be happy. I don't like it when you cry. You sound so sad. It makes me sad too, and I cry with you even though you can't hear me.

Day 4: Overmind, my scales are starting to grow. they are short and fine, but I will have a lot of them. I spend a lot of my time exercising. I can turn my head and curl my blades, and stretch my claws and legs. I am becoming quite good at it too.

Day 5: You intercepted a transmission from Tarsonis today. Overmind, they lied to you. They said that I'm not a Zergling. I am a Zergling, Overmind, your Zergling. I think and feel. Overmind, what's extermination?

Day 6: I can hear that marine again. I don't like him. He seems cold and heartless. Something is intruding my home. The marine called it a gauss rifle. Overmind what is it? It burns! Please make him stop! I can't get away from it! Overmind!! HELP me!! No . . .

Day 7: Overmind, I am okay. I still managed to hatch and my brothers and sisters rushed their base. Ke ke ke ke!

That would be cool, but it would require changes to the way fleets and characters work.

Right now fleets can only have one type of character in them, This means you can't mix civilian and military ships, or even troop carriers and military ships.

It would be really cool if you could mix them though. Imagine cruisers with troop capacity, or engineering ships that can repair fleets. Heck, a reason to have more than one engineering ship would be cool by itself.

See where my culture shot up? That was just after Catherine declared war on me. She outclassed me both in numbers and tech. However instead of taking my cities on the border she marched right past my border city and straight to my capital. A sound strategy in theory because my capital's walls were weak from a war with the Aztec and for some fucking reason walls can't be repaired anymore. But that allowed me to whittle down her army and concentrate my forces meeting her head on just outside of my capitol.

I took four cities and began sieging her capital. She capitulated and gave me 8 cities in order to save Paris. My score shot through the roof with that one.
>>
>>172765385
Your civilization has a tourism value. Places that generate tourism show up as those circles on the tourism map. Over time those circles accumulate tourists from other countries. There is a certain proportion of tourists available across the globe. If you attract more tourists from other nations than any one nation has total tourists you win cultural victory.

how about this then
"Mankind that rose from its cradle of Terra to conquer the stars is a far cry from its utopian visions late 20th and early 21st century dreamers would imagined it to be. Mounting ethnic and social tensions coupled with creeping cynicism towards the ostensibly altruistic global elites of the early space age Earth has given birth to a widespread societal upheaval as men rediscovered the honesty and purity of strength and dominance as natural values.
Freed from the shackles of fake altruism and verbal self-flagellation, the most industrious, best organized and most intelligent children of Terra united the mankind the way it was meant to be - through force.
With advent of FTL travel and new horizons unlocking before it, the nascent Terran Hegemony is more than eager to pursue its destiny among the stars."

I'm not going to post a pair of ideas I'd like to see in Stellaris because I have autism.

>Introduce a new ship type. We'll call them 'diplomacy ships'. Much like city states in other 4X games you could ask for job from another nation and they would spawn a thing for you to do, which could only be done with diplomacy ships. They'd have their own star rating like science ships. beyond doing little quests they'd also be able to execute diplomatic missions such as making two civs hate one another for a while and that kinda thing. Failure for said missions would result in both civs in question hating your guts

I'd also like to see more done with ground forces. Maybe a slot on each ship for 'crew' that would add modifiers to the ship such as faster repairing, better aiming, quicker FTL charge etc based on the forces you put in and maybe have larger ships let you keep your invasion force on-board and deploy it. Also some kind of blockade running thing where you can get your goons into a planet and cause mischief but won't directly take over the planet. Just stop a player from accruing resources from it for a time. Probably consuming the unit in the proccess.
>>
>>172784607
So basically like diplomats from EU4 or princess from Total War?
>>
Which Civ in 6 relies the least on starting location?
>>
I feel like a lot of the bordom with the the mid to late game could be solved with more combat events. Doesn't necessarily need to be on par with the unbidden but occasionally having a bunch of agressive pirates spawn or migrating space terror bounce around can make things interesting.

One of them is a classical era unit and the other is medieval

It's a good archer rather than bad crosbow
>>
>>172789354
I never understood that in strategy games. Why have special units that are limited to one age? Doesn't it mean that you lose your advantage as soon as you progress?
>>
>>172789515
To make respective factions more flavorful by having them stronger early/mid/late game
>>
>>172789354
Crossbowmen come fairly quickly after Iron working and Swordsmen stay relevant for most of medieval while Immortals start struggling at the start of Medieval. It also means you can't capture cities with them.
>>
>>172789515
You lose your advantage as soon as someone else advances
>>
>>172789515
???

The units aren't limited to one age, they just become obsolete when you research better units
>>

Very frustrating. The only way to win is to lead them on a merry chase while at the same time taking a smaller fleet (just small enough to take out a starbase with no losses), and just wreck shit and take over planets. Their big fleet will just always avoid a force that could actually bloody it.

The only way I can beat them is to lure them into a fortress flower, but whenever I move my bait fleet (the one they're tracking) into a system with a fortress trap, they just switch targets again.

Just left a game as Japan.

Only had one city, Kyoto, and used three samurai and three archers to conquer FIVE Polish cities, defeating Poland and annexing their nation.

Japan is GREAT.

Just saw the first episode of Season 3 of Rick & Morty.

I'd still at least be disappointed. It's a real existential blow to sacrifice so much for the good of humanity and have it all be for naught, regardless of what you get out of it. There's family members I'd never see again, beloved communities that probably no longer even exist, etc etc. And then I'm just told "Turns out we didn't need ya in the first place. Sorry 'bout that".

>Civ2 C2C
>playing as Rome on the Earth map
>discover slavery
>conquer Carthage, get a shit ton of captives
>enslave them
>only later do I realize that the Roman Republic collapsed largely due to entrenched resistance to land reform
>land reform which was necessitated by the massive influx of slaves from foreign conquests
Boy am I glad that this is Civ4 and not CK2 or some shit.

[Adult Swim] pulled an April Fools and switched today episode of Samurai Jack Season 5 for the first episode of R&M.

/cock/ is losing it's shit because they were waiting for the next episode and they hate R&M for autistic reasons.

I nominate it for best April Fool's day prank of the year, if only because it means more R&M.
