2 piety points, biyatch

The extra point in Fighting and Dodging will probably be helpful, especially for races with good aptitudes in those areas.

Also, I tend to agree with their flavor justification. While video games and nerds tend to glorify the "awesome kung fu" monks, the overwhelming majority of *actual* monks -- the ones who'd make most sense as being in tune with gods -- are not really born fighters. Being a monk might give them a strong composition (hence, Fighting's HP), but otherwise, they should "try" to avoid combat (obviously they won't because this is a roguelike).

What? But that's crazy.. Why on earth would one monster (or possibly a few more that we don't know about) have pathing?
(Even the stupidest and lowliest of monsters/zombies should have at least -some- form of pathing. Now things just move in a straight line towards you.) Are you absolutely sure? ...Actually, I suppose the most likely answer is that I'm wrong, and that there -is- some sort of pathing AI mechanic.

>>172537295
Damn, that's true. Multitile robotic vehicles would be absolutely fantastic. I can definitively imagine that the AI code would be horribly difficult to make though, yeah.. One thing is simple getPos of the various tiles, or even using the velocity vars to foresee where it will be. ...but coding an AI that has to plan ahead---from what it can detect---and navigate tactically? >>
>>172552576
>Besides, aren't logs about as heavy?
A skitterbot weighs about 150 kilograms.
Realism was never a thing in DDA: the more a thing weighs, the more energy it gives.
>>
>>172551776
No. I wish we had more Toadys.
Whether it's dancing, poetry forms, gemstone cut classification, musical theory, metereological mathematics or geology, Toady is the kind of person who---in the pursuit of making something realistic---reads up and studies something before somehow finding an optimal way of simulating it elegantly in a simplified videogame.
Whether you like it or not, the core tenet of Dwarf Fortress is realism, and the 'Nade aims for the same thing in CDDA. (This unlike any other roguelike discussed in these threads, interestingly enough.)

>caring about realism before [subjectively fun] gameplay mechanics is bad
The main issue here, is that you personally would like CDDA to focus on gameplay mechanics (specifically, ones that you personally would prefer) before realism. I'm afraid this isn't the point of cdda.
In the case of every roguelike that isn't DF and CDDA, I agree with you though. There, the point isn't realism. Incidentally, the gritty realism part is why I love DF and CDDA though.

No, CDDA isn't realistic. Yes, it aims for as high degree of realism as possible. These aren't mutually exclusive.

One could go on and on and on about how the game pretty much shits on realism, really.. but it still aims for it. The bullets-through-glass and zombie-tunneling (and LOTS of other things, heh) are logged as bugs, after all, not game mechanical features.
...Yeah, it-.. still has some ways to go..
Even though I applaud the entire filthy clothing thing for its realism, the tedium was so bad that I'm ashamed to admit I was glad they changed it into an optional mod..

>>172553365
Hmm, they only have low HP, I think. I don't think there's any directly electrical component to a railgun attack. Only kinetic. (Not sure though.. if there -is- some sort of "surge" component, I hope it gets fixed!)
>>
>>172552845
>Whether you like it or not, the core tenet of Dwarf Fortress is realism, and the 'Nade aims for the same thing in CDDA.
So, he's not aiming for multitile robots but rather for shoe soles wearing down from walking and guns requiring cleaning to prevent their breakdown.
>>
>>172553217
Demon lets you link with gods and shit.
>>
>>172553692
Multitile robots is fully within the constraints of this core tenet. (It -is- a futuristic setting, after all.)

...Sadly, the same goes for shoe sole wear and gun cleaning, hehe. Yeah you're onto something important though.. Slowly but surely, the tedium from all the realism will push aside all the joy from the gameplay.. In the end I suppose it comes down to how masochistic you are.
and I'm dreadfully masochistic when it comes to gritty realism
>>
>>172553682
>I don't think there's any directly electrical component to a railgun attack.
Railgun is a gun, but also a CBM that makes a lightning bolt follow the path of thrown metal objects. I've been tossing nails at an elite grenadier to fill up the hallway between us with electric clouds, and none of the *-hacks he's sent at me have managed to survive it yet.

PCB is intimidating as hell for me to get into because it just kinda dumps you in with little guidance on how to handle your business, but at least now I've got a reason to actually bother trying. Thanks lads.
>>
>>172554056
Ohh.. Yeah, of course, due to how the CBM works according to the game.. Damn.. Classic example of someone "cinema-science"ing something up without proper preceding research, though. There shouldn't be any residual charge left in the projectile large enough to impart damage.
Still sounds like a cool effect though!

but you already have the chain lightning CBM, so maybe they should change it?
>>
>>172553950
You misunderstand what realism people are about. Both Toady and KG.

They aren't about implementing features that add stuff to the game and also happen not to be unrealistic.
They are about taking existing features and tweaking them into something they consider more realistic, often without considering the implications. And rarely about actually adding realistic features.

For example, Toady adding soapmaker profession and soap because it's realistic to have soap, then keeping it at that for a decade. It wasn't realistic at all because training people as soapmakers in a world where soap is useless is not realistic, but it was "realistic" because soap exists IRL.

There was one DDA dev who was for "feature realism" - mugling. He was shat on on /rlg/ because he implemented some of the most hated realism features (magazines, vitamins, cranes, engine faults), but he was the type of a person who would add multitile vehicles eventually - he even planned to do so at one point.
Ironically, Kevin hates him, but likes all his additions that /rlg/ hates.

>implementing realism according to their own beliefs
No, I agree with this. The thing is, there's a hugely prevalent fantastically consistent consensus about the vision they're working towards. Namely, reality.
That being said, there will always be differing ways of how people implement it in a simulation. ..which is why I wrote (somewhat tongue-in-cheek, I might add) that we need more Toadys, since he has a track record of doing this in resource-efficient and game-mechanically "neutral" ways.

>soap, despite no in-game use
I can see where you're coming from, but this actually relates pretty directly to the earlier core argument I mentioned; The soap is there because of the overarching game vision (about realism). If the predominant focus was game-mechanical, the soap wouldn't be there (because it didn't have an in-game use). It's still realistic that the soap exists in-game. (Just as food existing before adventurers needing to eat, and a thousand other examples.)

>DDA dev - mugling
Huh, didn't know about this.. Interesting. I wonder how he was to work with as a person. You know, humble or arrogant, etc..
Also---and this is loose conjecture territory, though---I have a theory that what people really have a problem with (i.e. with these tedious realism things), is the gradual increase of them. You know, the slow incremental addition of more and more realistic (and often tedious/frustrating) features..
I don't think people hate them intrinsically, as much as they hate them because it changes the game's flow from what they're used to.
After all, consider how things would've been if these were features there from the start. It wouldn't be anymore tedious/frustrating than a LOT of the features in the other roguelikes featured in these threads, really. An interesting thought

A perfectionist autist type. He had a vision, hated when anyone went against it (the DDA community disliked him for that at one point when he closed a bunch of PRs against it), actually worked towards his vision.
The problem was his ideas were quite short-sighted. Cranes, magazines, really painful UI - he obviously spent more time writing the game than playing it.

If he was still around, DDA would grow much faster. The problem was that he disliked and was disliked by KG and the forum/github community. By KG for wanting less bloat (30 items doing the same etc.), by community for closing some PRs and implementing some painful features.

If he stayed and finished the shit he started it would probably be good. Magazines ended up pretty cool IMO.

Whatever you think of Toady's priorities, you can't argue with his results!
When he wants something in his game, like three-dimensional tile grids instead of 2D, or permanent tracking of scars on all creatures in the world, he just adds it. Doesn't matter if it will take two years to code. The things he decides to do are a bit odd sometimes, but he always gets them done.
I think that's his defining attribute, not the slavish devotion to meaningless details.

I'm almost certain his fluid mechanics code runs as an once-per-turn routine. It obviously looks that way.
Unless he REALLY fucked up, it would be easy to parallelize that.

Parallel pathfinding would require redesigning so I see why it stays serialized, but a lot of background shit could easily run in parallel.

Looking at the source code, the damage from an alchemical explosion is based on the square of the... nutrition value of the potion for some reason? Specically nutrition^2 / 2

*Healing* is worth 200 nutrition and so does 20,000 damage.
Slime mold juice is 400 nutrition and so would do 80,000 damage.
All the stat potions are worth 0 nutrition, so crafting those is actually safe.
Potion of restore mana is 50 nutrition. When I was crafting those earlier I had a chance to randomly instadie to a 1250 damage explosion.

1) Back when he started, multithreading wasn't really a thing. There were of course people with multiple processor cores in their machines, and some applications could even use that, but it was mostly for mp3 compression and not something ordinary gamers would know or care about.
2) He is, by his own admission, kinda shit at coding. Probably less shit now than he was ten years ago, but still. He doesn't have formal education in programming, and any good practices he has he's learned by doing things wrong over and over again.
3) Multithreading is hard, by roguelike standards. Not hard like actual hard problems, but a serious step up from having an '@' walking around on a grid.

Working on a system where ticks happen before your action. This is for the goal of a Monster Hunter style game. An entity selects an action, perhaps there is some sort of indication right at that moment (such as a tell for an attack), they're locked in place while the rest of the world moves, and then after a certain number of ticks the action fires off. The idea is to have large bosses with attacks that have certain tells and their attacks effect on area. It's on the player to recognize tells/patterns to know where not to be. Thinking about having the player have a stamina gauge sort of deal and the lower it is, the more ticks your own actions take. If you're too aggressive, your dodge can't happen fast enough to get you out of the area of effect before the monster attacks.

Berserk effectively gives you -33% damage taken because it steps your current HP/max HP up to 150%, and then steps it back down to 100% at the end. Shields are great for pode survivability, and the might bonus from berserk adds a flat damage bonus which benefits smaller faster weapons more. Stealth is good too because of the high aptitude and the ability to reposition before engaging.

>Whether you like it or not, the core tenet of Dwarf Fortress is realism
It really isn't. Dwarf fortress is touted as a fantasy world simulator, not a real world simulator, is populated by hundreds of kinds of fantastical creatures, includes materials that turn the laws of physics inside out, and literal magic is the biggest feature on the horizon. You can have dwarf children the size of small horses, import drinking vessels made out of spider silk, use perpetual motion machines to hurl boulders through arrow slits, kill giant metal monsters by throwing bugs at them, or dance with actual bogeyman as a giant sentient insect.
I'm not sure dwarf fortress really has a core tenet, but if it does it sure as hell ain't realism.

Not him, but I think I've heard about this.
Toady changed some stuff, such that the offspring of a couple inherit their traits.

But instead of offspring inheriting their parent's original, pre-training traits, they inherit their parents current traits. If those parents happen to be superdwarvenly [stat] and so musclebound that they're actually much larger than a normal dwarf, then the child will take that as the baseline and grow from there.
>>
>>172573369
PCB 6.0.0 adds quivers that are sort of similar to what vanilla angband does, although it's currently buggy with savefiles so I'd wait until it's fixed before updating.

For inventory management: check out the archer's guild in Morivant, Telmora or Angwil, they have a service to enchant your arrows.
When I play archer I generally just keep a pile of +0 arrows and then enchant everything else as high as the archer's guild will go (which depends on your current level). Even early on when you don't really have money to enchant everying, you should definitely pay to enchant the branded and seeker ammo.

Note that seeker arrows are REALLY GOOD, and enchanted seeker arrows do damage nearly as good as (or sometimes better than) branded non-seeker arrows, while also being much more common and not having to worry about monster resistances or races. The quality of stuff you get from Create Ammo improves with your level, so eventually you'll get to the point where you only ever carry seeker arrows and just throw away everything else.

Archery/craft skillmasters are also really OP because you can eventually use craft spells to slap brands on every single one of your massive amount of seeker arrows (created with Create Ammo), plus you can cast Weaponmastery and Mana Branding on top of that to make them even better.

Nah man, that's a common misconception. You're confusing realism---that is, adherence to real-world physical, biological and psychosocial causality---with "trying to be identical to the real world we know" (often erroneously called photorealism). These are not the same, nor are they mutually exclusive.
Dwarf fortress is a realistic fantasy world simulator. Meaning that content-wise, the world is different from ours (different places, races, forces, etc.), but it behaves in the constraints of causal rules we infer from our own world.
Consider the following: Technically, Candy Crush, Super Mario Bros. and Civilization 5 are all "Fantasy World Simulators" too.

If a dragon breathes fire in DF, then that fire will burn things. If that fire burns a dwarf (a humanoid creature very closely related to humans), that creature will get hurt, and probably die. (In a less realistically focused game, it might give you a debuff for a few seconds before everything's back to normal.)
If a metal has fantastical properties, then it behaves realistically with those properties.
If a magical spell creates a hurricane force wind, that wind will push things/creatures. (Instead of, say, bizarrely inflicting 14d6 Air damage).
If you anger the purple electrical alien-slime, it won't spin around spouting power-ups, then turn into a save-point.
The content doesn't matter---it still aims to be a causally accurate simulation of how things work in our reality.

Now, things like perpetual motion machines and thrown bugs dealing lethal damage are not content-specific issues, but rather flaws in the engine (and thus irrelevant). They are unintended.
...And -intention- is precisely the core thing we're discussing here, remember: Dwarf Fortress -aims- and -intends- to be realistic. (But it will never be completely realistic, of course.)

Every video game in existence is a balance of "stylized" versus "realistic" entertainment. DF leans heavily towards realistic.

Calm down, man. No need to be so dramatic.

I never gave my definition of a "fantasy world", but the common connotational usage is something along the lines of "a world different from ours, where elements derived from traditional folklore are likely to be incorporated"
We're not talking about how identical the world (content-wise) is to ours here.
We're talking about how realistic the game's rendition/simulation of its world is (i.e. to what extent it manages to be "our world + extra stuff") with regard to its narrative, no matter if space-slimes or magic spells or whatever might exist in it.

This is a very well-known narratological and dramaturgical principle.

He's right though, you're retarded. The minute you incorporate fantasy elements is the minute you abstract things to what-ifs and dice. No, you didn't read it correctly then.
I never said realistic worlds had to abide by real world physical laws (because although they often try to, they almost always have extraneous supernatural things that go beyond ours), but they -do- have to consistently adhere to the laws they presuppose, in a manner that our own world does. I.e. causal congruency.
(E.g. In the game Gravity Rush, you screw around with gravity a lot, but the game adheres to its own "laws of physics" the same way as our world does. (If it didn't---say if it started showing inconsistent toony physics---it would cause a huge break in suspension of disbelief.))

(Also, keep in mind, we can't argue semantically here: The word "realistic" has hugely varying connotative meanings depending on what one applies it to.)

>>172588556
>The minute you incorporate fantasy elements is the minute you abstract things to what-ifs and dice.
That sentence is the most nonsensical thing ever to have been sent over the internet.

>supernatural things technically no different than even more bizarre supernatural things
Now, this makes a whole more sense. I actually agree with you here:
As long as it's consistent with the game world's own laws, the degree to which some of the content is bizarre/"further" from our world doesn't matter when talking about mechanical/causal realism.
It does, however, matter when talking about content realism (which is about all the specific content as identical to our world as possible).

Here's the kicker/summary:
- In all games there are varying degrees of both mechanical realism and content realism.
- DF strives towards mechanical realism. (My postulate.)
- It does so avoiding perfect content-realism (A design choice. Or else it would be set in our world.)
- You implied (in >>172574761) that supernatural features invalidated all kinds of claims to realism, no matter what. (And also brought up bugs for some reason.)
- I explained there are different ways to pursue realism.
>>
>>172592289

that is literally what you said, there is no way for you to evade.
>realism---that is, adherence to real-world physical, biological and psychosocial causality
if you meant something else then the fault is not with the reader.

>Also, keep in mind, we can't argue semantically here
there's a good argument to be made that your semantics are shit, but in the first place i never contended with your definition, i just found it ridiculously ironic how you can contradict yourself within one sentence after defining your term. the whole point of formally defining terms is to make sure you're being consistent.

>realism---that is, adherence to real-world physical, biological and psychosocial causality
Causality (in the context of physical, biological and psychosocial events) isn't the same as the laws of physics themselves, the "laws" of psychosocial behaviour, etc.

>semantic inconsistency
The word "realistic" in this debate cannot be taken out of context (and thus used in purely semantic arguments) because of the connotative inaccuracy of the term. That's why I always paired it with descriptors or additional information designating what kind of realism I was talking about. (or tried to, anyway)

>For a long time the term "talkie talkie project" has existed for projects that developers come along and talk a lot about but never go anywhere with.
>There is a fairly standard pattern to this - would-be developer joins the community for the first time, talks very vaguely about having an idea, asks people for input and then continues to post self-centred pieces seeking attention. Eventually the person disappears and is never seen again. The most infamous case of this being the legendary Shockfrost, who whipped up the Usenet development community, fed on attention, and never produced a damned thing of worth.
I've already told you guys about this shit. Literally every person on /rlg/ that has posted about wanting to develop a roguelike along with a couple initial progress pics has completely disappeared before finishing. I'll name off a few that I vaguely remember:

Here's a protip about DDA: It is NOT safe to build a fire adjacent to a building. It is also NOT a good idea to ignore pain warnings when standing next to a fire. You should also NOT try to run through a fire to escape.
In other news, DDA fire is some sort of million-degree hell-inferno that vaporises you the second you touch it.
>>
>>172610768
It actually takes a long while to vaporize you, it's just that it quickly stacks pain so when you move onto the flaming 400 movement tile, you take 6 turns instead of 4.

/rlg/ I can't decide what I think about charging for a roguelike. I get that people want to make money off their work, and I've play some games enough that I wouldn't feel bad about paying for them - but there's so many of these titles out there and the best ones are completely free. Does anyone else wrestle with this? Is this unique to the genre?

So I made myself a charcoal kiln with some rocks in C:DDA and now im cutting down trees to fill it. All the good titles have been sifted out over the past 2 decades, though. If you compare the genre to genres that people traditionally paid for, you'll find that the paid genres have a far higher volume of good titles than roguelikes do. If roguelikes had traditionally pursued a paid model back in the 90s, we'd have a much better spread of games than we currently have - and they'd be functional out of the box, rather than taking multiple forks just to ensure maximum playability, like *crawl, *band, Elona+, CDDA.

So when you look at it, the best games in the genre have been given time to "cook" thanks to being freely available. Could this still happen with a paid model? Doubtful. But over a period of 20 years we'd probably get at least a few games better than what we're currently playing today. And each one would set us back about 15 hamburgers.

Are self bows actually useful?
What the fuck do I need to deal with Hulks? I've died before taking them on with molotovs, a machinegun, and a van, do you just have to start chucking dynamite or digging a pit maze?

I've got a few days worth of cooked meat, if it doesn't all rot, and a semi-decent supply of water/drinks. But all I've got in terms of weapons are a fireaxe and a shopping cart with broken wheels I've been using to kite. It's great 1v1, but I worry about what will happen with even 2 enemies at once. I'm a game developer and I'd like to ask you guys a question
Are there any roguelikes where you can play as different creatures, which have varying limbs/body structures and therefore varying equipment slots (including varying weapon slots)?
If there were such a game, would you try it?

Fairly important. Weapons are probably most dependent on tier to be useful, but it determines power of basically everything. You're best off just looking at the stats instead of tier, though; tier's more just a shorthand for how good the stats will be. There's plenty of decent artifacts (and occasionally some good egos) that will be far and away better than things a tier above them. Girdle of Calm Waters is pretty great, for instance, and I hesitate switching it out even at end game unless I get some stupid good randart belt or the perseverance one.

I use easy_id on vanilla pcb because the whole "pick up loot, walk back and forth until it pseudo-ids, pick up more loot" dance annoys me.

How's the CastlevaniaRL?

Also, I remember playing this rather charming Metroid roguelike once. Gave a nice feeling about how Metroid would be with a totally different sort of gameplay: having to manage your power source, missiles, keep parts of your suit maintained, etc.
An interesting idea

I don't know about roguelikes that use that system specifically (hell even Incursion doesn't despite being so heavily d20 based), but Adom and Elona do have a "spell stock" system where reading a spellbook gives you some finite number of casts for the spell (and consumes the spellbook), so that all spells are a limited resource.

Yeah, but the power before rockets is still pretty great and can't be resisted by anything. I think it's eye beams or laser cannon or something.

Yeah you could use that to kill some melee-only shit.

You aren't getting anywhere killing high-level uniques with actual dangerous spells like that though.

Zot wanted the best fighting formations to protect his runes. He used Ziggurat towers to test them: the toughest would descend further and further and get better loot as a reward. When Zot mysteriously disappeared, the fighters of the ziggurats were trapped inside. Now, they sleep and wait for adventurers on whom to take out their vengeance.

On one hand, yeah, it's pretty much just hack'n'slash. But past Lair/Orc (arguably including those branches, too), you have to put a teensy bit of thought into positioning, how you approach certain dangerous enemies, etc.

A big thing about Crawl is that you can get into a groove with the game and make quite a bit of progress (and without going through too much tedium, either), but soon enough, you'll find an enemy or situation that forces you to behave differently.
>>
the problem with crawl is that it is WAY TOO LONG
most of the combat is the boring as shit "sit in a chokepoint and press tab 100 times", but it's still juuuust dangerous enough that you still have to pay attention instead of mindlessly mashing the button, which makes it 10x worse

I rescued some captives from bandits living in military outpost. I didn't have a quest to do it or anything, and they started following me without being invited. I don't mind, but is there any way to get them to not be called captives anymore?

Also I think I need a bigger car.
>>
>>172696127
But earlier versions were both longer and clearly superior to the current version. Length isn't the issue, but gameplay. The devil's team has sucked all the good stuff out so that tabbing is more mindless than ever.

>WAY TOO LONG

what

Crawl is like a 4/10 in roguelike length, maybe a 7 if you include extended, and an 8 if you make clearing a Zig mandatory.

If there's an issue with Crawl's combat, it's that the devs try to take away small idiosyncrasies, under the excuse of them being tedious/etc. And frequently, they're not wrong, but the end result is that a lot of the game feels same-y, and winning is basically about having endurance and concentration.

Nonetheless, no one is forcing you to otab, which is especially true if you want highscores (even locally) and not just wins.
>>
>>172699921
Don't worry, the next trunk update is making Lair two floors in length and all the branches a single floor.
>>
>>172700174
Right, and the one after that is removing shops, gold, and Gozag and replacing all of that with higher Acquirement drop rates
>>
>>172699921
Maybe it just feels longer because it's so boring
>>
>>172699921
The term you're looking for is "headroom". The devs call it "Nethacky"

Also 3 hours of DCSS on a 3 rune "win" is still a tedious boring slog without being as long (nor as interesting or fun) as other roguelikes

There's also a spell that summons a gangbang of big black tentacles that "attack" anything within range, indiscriminately.

There are also spells and items that make you and/or others grow to giant proportions, regress to a feral state, fall under a curse of dubious benefit, lose intelligence, get a painful stiffy, and more.

Thanks for the keyword, found an interesting article about it:

>In high-headroom games [like *band and nethack], players have to create their own replay value via intentionally seeking out different playstyles and paths to victory. Low-headroom games [like DCSS and brogue] force the issue via forcing players down particular paths, but this has its own problem: now the game is lacking in replay value because you have to go with the choice the game gives you, even if it's one you don't enjoy or one you've tried too many times before. (Or you fail to identify the path the game is sending you down, and die as a result; this is also frustrating, because for a player unspoiled on strategy, it feels like they died to something that they couldn't have known about.)

Cool stuff. Another good excerpt:

>Imagine a game where if you don't sell all the loot dropped by monsters, you won't be able to afford an item that subsequently becomes vital to your survival. (It isn't hard to imagine; many non-roguelike RPGs work like that.) Suddenly, the "clean dungeon policy" looks less like a pointless diversion, and more like a strategy that everyone should be using to win the game. These players tend to request that things like item selling should be removed from the game, because they don't enjoy using them, and yet they feel like they should be doing anything they can to increase their chances.

>The problem with fixing this issue is that it's one of psychology and player perception. To many NetHack players, the solution to, say, "pudding farming is boring" is "well, don't pudding farm, then; the game is entirely winnable without it". For players whose minds don't work like that, some other solution must be found.

I've actually managed to escape from every building fire i've been in except for one instance of that scenario where you start in a burning building and the ceiling fell on me after 2 turns.

That includes the time I accidentally burned down a mansion I wanted to stay in, lost most of my gear, trekked through a dark forest, found another mansion, set that one on fire too, and ended up outside it with nothing except a few clothes, watching hordes of slimes and zombies battle it out while eating a squirrel I toasted on a stick in flames. It was 02:00, it was snowing and I had no shoes, socks, pants, or underwear. But at least I had squirrel.

Also the time I accidentally set a house basement on fire having discovered just how many spiders are actually in a spider basement, and ended up pinned under rubble in a burning collapsing house covered in burning mutant spiders.

I usually shit on brogue type rls for excessive minimalism leading to lack of fun, but excusing shit design with

Or even worse: doing scrub runs where you randomly decide that a given badly specified tactic is too strong but can't objectively verify it, so you end up fucking around without rules, playing not against the game but against own autism.

I do figure corpse abilities generally reflect the abilities of demons found on their respective floors and their modifiers to a lesser extent. In the previous builds, for example, you could either learn dash early on, when goblins and red caps are common sights, or fairly late in the tower, where barbegazi spawn.

>>
>>172712029
Advice for Mordecai: he's easily one of the biggest threats in the game, so you'd usually want to go away from him. Glyphs are very useful against him, and you would want to buff up your party before fighting him. If you're even going to link with Reprobus, hopefully you can hurt him greatly, even if you fail, as he won't be healed and you can still get a good ability from him (battle cry is useful for many characters).

So which dungeons in Pozcheng are generally NOT worth going to?
>>
>>172713610
-camelot (maybe if you want the mirror shield)
-glass castle
-dark cave if you're not a bookreader
-forest (this shit is just annoying with all the hounds, and animals don't drop much loot)
-antimagic or antimelee cave obviously, depending on your character
>>
>>172714208
The Camelot knights drop 3-4 exceptional per, decent early if you can handle them.
>>
Actually, some more useful advice:
avoid any dungeon that's lower level than the best you can handle

if you can manage on Mountain:40 or Castle:40, you shouldn't even bother with Giant's Hall or Lonely Mountain until you're feeling strong enough to dive to the bottom and kill the dungeon bosses for the stat up + loot

In any dungeon, grab a source of mapping or stair detection and dive as deep as you can manage ASAP (usually this means the floor right above the one the boss lives on)
No reason to be hanging out at Dragons Lair:60 when you could instead be on Lair:71
Same for Giant's Hall 30 vs 39

The only reason to go up is if you find yourself incapable of killing ANYTHING for loot/xp
or if you feel like you're in serious danger of getting oneshot or something
>>
>>172715038
note that if you play with small levels possible then Lonely mountain 39 will be much safer than anywhere else because it can't generate small levels full of awake enemies. Low stealth diving in Castle is asking for disaster.
>>
>>172715038
Does Castle have any unusual properties compared to other dungeons? Aside from the awake monsters thing.
