Multicrew isn't out yet and FD already nerfed it.
Payouts while in multicrew now scale with your rank, so only Elite pilots get 100% of vouchers.

VISION'd again.
>>
>>172355785
How can FDev be this shit?
>>
>>172355751

Is that a fucking challenge???
>>
>>172355785

so.... what happens if the helmsman is less than elite in rank? does he get reduced credits?

and what if your gunner outranks you in combat? does the deadly gunner get less credits than the expert helmsman?
>>
>>172356017
>so.... what happens if the helmsman is less than elite in rank? does he get reduced credits?
yes, but only in multicrew

>and what if your gunner outranks you in combat? does the deadly gunner get less credits than the expert helmsman?
It's entirely based on your personal combat rank
>>
>>172356143

wait what

so they basically put up a tier list for multicrew:

>everyone who's elite gets 100% of vouchers
>everyone who's deadly gets 90%
etc etc? i made up the numbers, but am I interpreting you correctly?
>>
>>172356357
Yeah, Elite is 100%, deadly is something like 60-65%, every other rank scales down from there.

The forum dads are saying it's good because new players won't be able to use multicrew to skip the grind.

The same fucking people who say "The grind is all in your mind" are now saying "If you skip the grind you skip the game." You can't make this shit up.
>>
>>172355905

You bet it is, cunt. Meet me at Hutton Orbital in 20 minutes. Can't make it in time? Pssshhh, nothing astrological kid
>>
>>172356717

>deadly 60-65%

Fucking hell. Elite ranked players are probably better than a full multi crew of mid range players, but then you give said mid ranked players less of a reason to use multi crew? The players who benefit the least performance-wise from multi crew has the biggest incentive to use it...

And all the harmless dads have literally no incentive whatsoever to use it since they'll get fuckall for it.

>The same fucking people who say "The grind is all in your mind" are now saying "If you skip the grind you skip the game." You can't make this shit up.

I'll IMAGINE that this isn't a bad idea and maybe it'll be a good idea!
>>

Oh well, another DoA fdev feature.
At least everyone gets 100% bounties if you're in a wing now instead of splitting it.

>>
>>172357301

This is FDev's thing.

This is what they do.

They've done the same thing every patch without fail. Even if something sounds cool when pitched they will find a way to make it mediocre or outright useless. Always.
>>
>>172358852

A-are you lads earning more than a thousand credits per bong?

We can't be having none of that. No sir, that goes against the vision!

*chuckles*

I'll get this sorted....
>>
My ship you dumb bitch. When will FDev let me blow some of these chucklefuck representatives out of the airlock? I'm even allied with this faction.
>>
wow it doesn't sound like fdev just lazily pulled this shit out of their ass instead of actually putting a moment's thought or effort into it at all ;^)

>>
[How do you intend VOIP integration to work?] The idea is for players to create voice lobbies, switch between them and be able to do that quickly. This is stage one which is within Spectrum.

The next stage is if Spectrum is on and the game is on, you'll hear what people say based off where they are in the game from you that are in that lobby with you.
For Orgs they do want to have a nesting feature to allow for command structure VOIP like Teamspeak has.

How do you think this will work with pirating/bounty hunting?

Sounds like a bad attempt to balance/counter people from boosting their rank while in multicrew
>>
>>172365528
That would probably explain it. Because income is proportionate to rank gain isn't it? I feel like that would've already been managed by having income split between crew members.
>>
>>172361418
Pirates will probably use an org with redacted member lists. I'm not revealing my org until the chat is fixed where members can be protected in chat from being spied on, but pirates should be as well organized as any org.
>>
>>172365528
Combat rank is not determined by payout. It's a hidden point system that works by number of kills modified by the rank of what you killed vs your own rank.
>>
>>172366747
>It's a hidden point system that works by number of kills modified by the rank of what you killed vs your own rank.
That explains why Conflict Zones level it quickest. Everything there is at the least Competent but on average Master or higher.
>>
>>172366747
So it doesn't actually stop rank boosting. Then whats the fucking point of this? I don't even think the forumdads were pushing for a change to the income style so we can't blame them this tiem.

I think our problem is that /edg/ posters are quiet dads who run away any time someone shitposts, and 80% of /scg/ posters are hibernating until at least 3.0.

I'd be glad to share a thread with every space game that doesn't have its own general, at least it would be more interesting, and have a better userbase.

There's a way to skip the credit grind. Unfortunately, if you want to PVP like I did the engineering grind is still there. Which was why I left to play EVE instead.

Get a type 6, and equip fuel scoop. Go to Robigo, scanning every star you come across. Sell exploration data. You should have enough rep with the locals to take smuggling missions. Stack smuggling missions, then abandon them and sell the slaves to Robigo's black market. You get money, and a net gain to reputation (somehow). Repeat until you have enough money. The only downside is that you have the mother of all bounties in a week.

in x3 you can make npc eject from their ship if you hit them hard and fast enough and claim it as yours. boarding is a little more harder and expensive since you need to hire and train marines, engage the target ship to take down their shields, launch the marines and then hold enough for the marines to take the ship.
they also damage the ship while boarding and can even destroy it accidentally
or die and lose all the money and time it took for training them

Each day Derek sees CIG get closer and closer to the game he dreamed of making stabs a little closer to his heart. I imagine he'll throw a lawsuit to prevent the game from being released over some imagined personal attack. Of course he'll be laughed out of court which will throw him deeper into his delusion. Will Star Citizen be a dad grind on release? Every non-combat game play mechanic mentioned; trading, mining, merchant, smuggler, cargo, science and research (who the fuck thought this was a good idea?), exploration, interdiction, etc., has had no explanation of how the game play will be more than point and click teir horseshit. More so, at least half or more of these will require extensive quantum travel, which currently is fast travel (no user interaction) that takes potentially 40 minutes to cross a single solar system, with the largest game play aspect being planning which route to take based on fuel consumption. Will there be any fun?

We just don't know yet, Anon. I back this project back in '13 and I assumed three things will happen.

>Project succeeds. Chris delivers on all goals and everyone is happy.

>Project succeeds. Many features are cut or changed to fit budget, deadlines, and computer specs. Many backers upset. Game doesn't sell well. CR disappears from public.

>Project fails. CiG runs out of money and fails to deliver anything more than a tech demo. Derek Smart bullies CR into suicide. No one will ever attempt another crowd funding project on this scale again.

Either way this project is going down in history. Books will be writ about it.

I think SC is more aligned to people having fun in groups and it'll be lone wolf players who will feel the most left out. Large Org on Org ship battles and ground battles over resource nodes.

You'll find lone wolf players trying to do trading/exploring/mining get attacked more and they'll either join up with friends or quit the game.

>>
>>172401368
Doing it in a group doesn't change wether there's any gameplay to those mechanics. If anything it's even worse because you sit in the inside of a ship and wait for something to happen.

I also don't think CR will discount solo players. The whole Org fantasizing spawned from the user base more than it did CIG. So orgs would obviously be able to accomplish more, but at the same time a small, solo operation is still viable. Outside of griefers, I don't think large pirating factions would go for solo players because it wouldn't be economical.

Star Wars was the biggest thing when they were young alongside humanity taking its first few steps into space. They've latched onto the dream of space since then except they brought their wageslave mentality to it.
>>
>>172410506
To start out with yeah but I wouldn't accept it being the only thing you'd be able to do forever by walking around. Frontier's problem that gives them long development times is they like to release multiple things bundled together in a patch instead of taking it step by step.
>>
>>172410506
I personally would enjoy a feature like that in addition to mc, just getting to fuck around the inside of my ship with my friend as we boost into pirate condas or something sounds p fun

I think the most pathetic thing is that they endlessly defend Frontier out of fear that their preferred path of playing the game as a job simulator will wither away if Frontier isn't supported.
>>
>>172420186
The thing is that I don't want Frontier to fail either, I like E:D but I'm just endlessly frustrated with the fact that it could be so much more but is constantly held back. I want FDev to do better but I know that they're not going to improve by just nodding at every decision they make like the forumdads do, they need criticism. Enough to actually listen to because we definitely don't have enough.
The dads really need to experience a hostile takeover, I can only hope Frontier does some big update to bring an influx of normal fucking not-ball-and-chained human beings to the game. But the chances of that are low on happening anytime soon if ever.
The obvious option is wait for Star Citizen to have a working beta but that will be an equally long wait, one I think will happen, I think they can bring Star Citizen to fruition but a game of this scale takes some real time especially when you fuck around with side stuff people don't want you focus on

Space trucking is comfy, but they want haul routes to take literal days of gameplay to complete and they want it to be an uneventful journey full of planned fueling stops, MUH IMMERSION level tedious upkeep tasks and MAYBE an NPC pirate, but absolutely no other humans dropping in to alter their planned gameplay.
>>
>>172426464
Mining in SC looks like its gonna be a cut above many other games an actual challenge of scanning, prospecting and logistics then the mining itself looks like it will be a directly controlled activity and yield will depend on your skill in recognizing and targeting valuables while avoid worthless rock. Anyone can fill a prospector with ore, skill/profit will be in filling a prospector with valuable ore quickly.

But hey, I have an incurable case of Vidya mining autism. And I have $2000 worth of ships and a prospector is not one of them, help. I legit enjoy making LOADSAMONE locating and extracting minerals, in almost every game I play, from WoW, to Minecraft to Planetside2 to Firefall and even EVE.

Firefall gen1/beta mining was by far the best implementation of mining in a game. EVE mining is painful.
>>
>>172426874
>mining in EVE gets you lots of money
In EVE, unless you rat/mission run, your income is determined by how many other people use that money source.
Literally almost every highsec carebear mines constantly. Unless you mine in low/null, you're making nowhere shitty amounts of ISK, and even in null and low, you still don't make anywhere near as much ISK if you were exploring, ratting, mission running, manufacturing, or fighting in incursions.

It's incredibly silly. With how they're going to have it, I'd rather have a newbie in a Viper 3 or a Cobra than inside my Vette. Sure, you can say that there's more risk in them being in their own ship since they can die, but the risk is so small, and the rebuy for those ships even when new is trivial.

All of these problems would go away if they balanced the universe so the whole bubble wouldn't be uniform throughout (i.e. starter systems and the center of the bubble are relatively safe with easier pirates/few conflicts, and as you go out you get harder shit and get to systems like 17D with hard as fuck enemies and high payout.) I could go on. I understand why they're doing this but it all stems from how broken and unfinished the base game is, and I've already typed up enough explanations and possible fixes for this game in this thread. Seeing shit like this just makes me depressed and I just shrug and go back to playing other things.

Credits to get ships to get credits to get ships to get credits to get ships.

To max out your rating progressbars.

Elite:Dangerous is not a game, it's an overcomplicated progress bar simulator. It's like wargaming.net tier grind game that doesn't even have the decency to be FTP. How could they allow you to skip tiers? Thats literally the only thing there is to do, and once you've buzzed through them and filled all you bars you will realize there is nothing else to do. How can Elite fix PvP? There's really not much they can do. You can bet your ass that when we get Thargoids, they'll release special alien modules and possibly alien ships, along with their own Engineer upgrades, which will introduce even more power creep into the game. I'm really not sure what they can do to fix it without making Engineers useless, other than going back in time and not release Engineers in the first place because it's the worst feature ever introduced to a pseudo-mmo.

My complete list of demands:

1. Make Open client-to-server, not peer-to-peer

2. Split the background universe into two, one for Open, one for Solo/PG, and give Open different CGs, and eventually different PP factions.

3. Make the ships of combat loggers stay in space for 5 minutes

4. Remove the RNG from Engineer modifications, so that all modifications of the same class and type behave the same, and weapon special effects have to be manually selected for, and remove the reputation requirement for higher-grade modifications.

4. Make mass lock effect high wake

5. Make system security status actually mean something

6. Make smuggling and piracy pay much, much better

If these demands are not met, I will send increasingly larger pieces of rotten animal corpses to Ftroop HQ, up to and including a horse that's been dead for a fortnight.

An anon on here had a nice idea of allowing player factions to fight over systems in an area just outside of the bubble. Traders and smugglers could make good money doing risky runs into player controlled space, combat guys have a lot of people to fight with, exploration guys can be spies and sell info on factions to other factions.

I've seen a few people use them, especially the pacifier.

Introducing player-owned assets that require upkeep in the form of trade goods would be great. Imagine having an outpost 200 LY, it'd give players a reason to go out and haul resources there, not to mention it'd help in curbing the end-game inflation of credits by putting in a money sink.

Rudimentary creatures of blood and flesh. You touch my mind, fumbling in ignorance, incapable of understanding. There is a realm of existence so far beyond your own you cannot even imagine it. I am beyond your comprehension. I am Sandro.
Dad? A label created by the Players to give voice to their destruction. In the end, what they chose to call us is irrelevant. We simply... are. Fun is nothing but a genetic mutation, an accident. Your gameplay is measured in entertainment and enjoyment. You wither and die. We are eternal, the pinnacle of evolution and existence. Before us, you are nothing. The extinction of your enjoyment is inevitable. We are the end of everything. The cycle cannot be broken.
The pattern has repeated itself more times than you can fathom. New patches rise, evolve, advance, and at the apex of their glory they are extinguished. Multi-crew was not the first. They did not create the illusion of hope. They did not create potential excitement. You merely believed it -- the machinations of my kind.

My opinion differ,
Only the biggest orgs would have enough members active at any time to help single player and that's assuming you are at reach. So in practice everybody is going to be a lone wolf outside of org-centric special events or concerted action.

Even the biggest org ship like the Bengal is more likely to be a well defended place to respawn and fly to play your game than the miraculous coop experience some expect them to be.

Chris Robert want a fun game, a fun game don't force you to play with strangers or retards because the devs couldn't be bother with npc. That's why SC is uniquely tailored to make multicrew & group play an optional but welcomed feature rather than an obligation.

We only hope they don't fuck up the game balance or the grind needed to get your own Endeavor.

The thing that worries me about Braben is that he never shuts the fuck up about the "accurate" science in ED. He seems to genuinely believe that some mildly interesting factoids are a substitute for fun gameplay.

Combine that with the general incompetence of Sandro "The Hazemaker" Sammarco, and the autism of the forum dads who wants a day job simulator instead of a fun game, and you get what we have now in ED.

The thing is, FDev is never going to stop listening to the dads, because FDev ARE dads.

Due to a brown nosing nature of ribbit they're only now finally catching up to what the VISION truly means.

Braben treats ED as his main cashcow for many years to come, so instead of blowing his load right away and giving us all the cool stuff he and his monkeys will dripfeed us content and make sure the credit grind stays unberable while top tier ships stay pricey as fuck like a carrot on a stick.

They don't really give a fuck about if ED will ever reach the hights that were promised during DDF or about any sort of coherent experience, that's why they never return to significantly improve previously released features (look at fucking exploration then and now, check how it was described in DDF). Everything serves the purpose of stretching the life of the product and the milking of said product while losing as little money and effort as possible, this is the VISION. So they will keep shitting out minimally viable OMG NEW features and epic 10$ glove packs until Brabo kicks the bucket.
>>
>>172476128
Incursions are basically fleet PVP if the enemy was controlled by an AI, so if you enjoy killing shit like I do...

The grinding's for a purpose, though.
PVP
More specifically, kicking some puppies out of null and taking their space for ourselves.

Grinding in ED is just grinding for grinding's sake. In EVE, it's to support your ability to shit on other people.
>>
>>172475343
You simply can't go back to fucking 90's RTS point and clicking after you flown your ship yourself through a dense ring system in ED, sorry.

But seriously EVE had no familiarity or QOL user friendly interface. Every answer to a question was "just look it up"
>>
>>172474675
>A better question to ask is why did it take this long for people to start actively attacking FD?
It all comes back to dads.

They were the first ones to play elite and were the earliest adopters of E:D. There was probably a time where they represented the large majority of the community. As time went on and E:D became more popular it started attracting the attention of the younger generations. These generations, most of us really, have far more experience with video games and have had their expectations shaped accordingly. (i.e Their expectations are higher than those who can count the number of games they've played on one or two hands)

The increased frequency of attacks you're seeing now is a consequence of displacement; the dads are still here but now they're not the large majority they once were. And unfortunately for them their ideas of what the game should be aren't necessarily compatible with the views of the newcomers.

Moral of the story, don't let the immigrants in unless they share your beliefs.

They're against solo mode because to do that would be to admit that they can't compete with other people, and the whole point is to feel tough and powerful. They want to define the rules of the game being played clearly and and have it be parallel competition on terms they define. There's a reason they get labeled as "dads" if because of the mindset of unqualified and unassailable self righteousness that is a hallmark of baby boomer era men, guys from the age of maybe 40 to 60 who just KNOW that they are always right about everything despite having not reasoning to back it up, and that extends over into their "VISION" of the game. They know how they want it to be and anything else is wrong. Braben is a dad. Emergent gameplay conflicts with the VISION because it wasn't part of his plan, and anything that lets you sidestep his plan has to be fixed, because he is your dead and you are not allowed to do that.

>>
>>172493689

Shit doesn't randomly decay. Any damage will come primarily your own mistakes, and the occasional surprise close binary:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1b21Q6s1dAQ

You can reload the AFMU with synthesis using easy mats, so it's unlimited if you have an SRV.

Even if you're absolutely paranoid you'll need no more than 2 AFMUs, since then they can repair each other.

Ok another question, engineering. I've never done it or even bothered. Is it a hassle to upgrade the FSD?
>>
>>172492917
You should lower your PP to a 7D and drop the power distributor down to a 1D since you won't be using it all the way out there
>>
>>172496096

FSD is probably one of the easier ones.

Elvira Martuuk and Felicity Farseer both do grade 5 FSD mods and are easy unlocks.

You find arsenic on planets with an SRV, chemical manipulators come from bullying refugees and you'll get datamined wake exceptions eventually if you sit outside a station and use a wake scanner on all the high wakes.
>>
>>172496096

Engineering anything is a hassle but FSD upgrades are probably on the easier side of all the upgrades. Unlocking Farseer is annoying as fuck though. Once you start needing arsenic for the higher grade FSDs, remember that Farseer has a couple of planets that give a respectable amount of arsenic in her own system.
>>
>>172496815

No, you want an A-rated PP for thermal efficiency because of fuel scooping. You can drop it down to a smaller size no problem though.
>>
>>172496986
I made the trip to SagA with a 7D and never overheated even while close to stars, you're underestimating just how good the anaconda is at dissipating heat
>>
>>172497161

Still better off using a 6A instead of a 7D. Better heat efficiency means a larger safety envelope, it gens slightly more power AND it weighs less.
>>
>>172497484
6A also has more structural integrity than 7D in case you care about, you know, the survivability of the only module you can't repair.
>>
>>172497484
If you're being optimal with your jump range you can go to 5A easily.

Wide as an ocean deep as a puddle is a good way to describe E:D, theres lot to do but not alot depth to those things.
>Lots to upgrade your ship with?
Yes theres a decently wide selection of modules and weapons to make a pretty diverse amount of builds for ship
>Is it fun or really boring and repetitive?
Heavily depends on what you find "fun" and its quite repetitive in many fields
>Don't really mind repetitiveness in games as long as it's still fun and it's to improve your ship/vehicle/base/character etc.
Well one of the main reasons you even want money in E:D is to buy a better ship and upgrade it so theres a plus for you.

I'm not gonna lie, the game has a pretty high amount of shortcomings and stupid balancing decisions which is putting lightly. But its been serviceable enough as a space sim for me to put 350+ hours in so take that for what you will.

The game has no balance. If you want to PvP, engineers (collecting mats for hours so you can upgrade your ship stats) is mandatory, and be aware that it's completely luck based so getting a decent roll might take hours of your time. Engineers completely fucked all ship balance and there's no hope of it ever returning. Just pick a gimmick and have fun with it or stick to the meta.

Frontier is absolute shit at fixing their own game. Bugs are awful and plentiful.

>back when Horizons released
>half of the missions available were bugged and unable to be completed or just took literal hours for your target to show up
>took 5 months to be fixed
>last year, Powerplay (big thing where you can join a major faction and fight to conquer systems, defend territory, etc.) completely fucked out for no reason, people couldnt defend their own territory or capture
>went completely unfixed and left PP in a downright broken and unplayable state for 3 months
>was only fixed after the community threatened to up and quit the game, reddit was on fire over it

I still do enjoy the game but you seriously need to be a top level space autist to enjoy it. And I mean really, do you love Freelancer, Freespace, Descent, Escape Velocity, and a ton others I'm forgetting? If any of those are on your hate list, you will probably not enjoy Elite.

Frontier has one of the worst game design departments to ever grace video games, right up there with Gaijin. Every update that sounds like it would be great is quickly knee-capped and made into utter shit, lurk this very thread and read the earlier posts to see a fresh example of this. Note how I singled out their design. The audio and visuals are fucking amazing and they deserve their paycheck.

I'm too tired to continue but I hope this helps you decide on whether you are ready to descend into a world of dadness.

>>
>>172504349
>How bad are the balancing issues; game breaking?
Eh, I guess that would depend on your definition of it.

It's apparent in PvP, where there's a pretty clear and narrow meta. But you'll only care about it if you're planing to compete against the best ships and pilots. (Another grind warning here, if you want to be viable in serious PvP you'll need to do a fair bit of grinding and then subject yourself to some RNG)

PvE? Not significant at all. Do whatever. All of the ships can be made to do a certain job well.

It's gimmick is that you're in charge of a fleet, and. at any time, you can pause and zoom out to a tactical over view and give orders. You fly the same ship, but you can make upgrades to your fleet. Other than the battle strategy element, there's not much else to it. It's just a fun space game.

Yeah when I was talking about PvP I ought to have been more clear that I was referring to the more serious side of PvP. The side where people are challenging each other directly and thry mostly focus on picking fights with other serious PvPers.

If you're ganked by one of these players and you're not a top notch pilot or in a bitched out ship you're dead long before you can charge your FSD.

Freespace is essentially Descent in open space, so if you play Descent it should feel familiar. Lower ranked commanders shouldn't be able to jump from nothing to Python (or better) with a few hours play and there is no doubt that if it remained where everybody got the full amount of bounties that it would be the case. Now the percentages I am sure if found to be too low will be tweaked the other way but the thing that is certain is it could not remain the way it was and they needed to make sure that it didn't become a no brainer method for bypassing the purchase of several ships (and the experience that comes from flying them). You're not tilting your head all the way up and then trying to stare down your nose at the screen when you look up.

Head trackers scale your movement, so even looking all the way over at your side panels in ED only takes a subtle movement that doesn't turn your head completely away from the screen. It's weird at first but you get accustomed to the scaled movement very quickly.

tl;dr - Boomers ruin everything.
>>
>>172521314
Yeah, from what I can tell, Volition wanted to develop Freespace 3, but Interplay said no. Volition was then bought by THQ. Interplay still held the rights to the Freespace IP, with Volition holding residual rights to the franchise, including the engine source. THQ wasn't interested in licensing Freespace from Interplay for Volition to develop, so Volition released the Freespace 2 source code for non-commercial use. A few years later, Interplay was struggling financially and started selling IPs. Derek Smart attention whored about buying the Freespace IP, but never actually did anything (thank God) because he's a cuck. Later THQ went bankrupt, and Interplay bought the remaining rights to Freespace for $7,500.

It's unlikely Freespace will be made, because space sims have been dead since the turn of the century as far as publishers are concerned (name one majorly published, non-crowdfunded space sim in the last decade), likely because normies find them too confusing and difficult. Volition doesn't exist as it did in the Freespace era, and considering no one involved in Freespace has attempted a crowdfunded reboot of the franchise in the space sim resurgence period (like CR with SC, E:D, the Descent spirit child, etc.), there's no hope of them reviving it. Interplay owns all the rights to the franchise, I'm not sure who owns the copyrights to the engine, so a reboot under a different name based on the original engine is highly unlikely as it's only available under a non-commercial license.

TL;DR: Freespace is dead, and there's no hope. Be thankful the engine is available and updated with plentiful mods. It's the best we're ever going to have.

>Battlecruiser 3000AD (also known as BC3K on Usenet) is a science fiction computer game, noted for its long, troubled development history.

>Derek Smart began his game development career in the late 1980s, with a vision of creating an all-encompassing space simulation game, featuring strategy elements along with space, planetary, air and ground combat.

>Before publisher Take-Two Interactive released Battlecruiser 3000AD in September 1996, it had generated one of the longest and largest flame wars in the history of Usenet.[16] This flamewar lasted for several years, garnered over 70,000 posts, and yielded a series of sites that documented and parodied its history.

>Smart advertised that Battlecruiser 3000AD used a neural network to perform artificial intelligence tasks in the game.

>Upon its initial release of Battlecruiser 3000AD, the game[18] contained many bugs that made it unstable,[3][19][20] according to a GameSpy.com reviewer, who asserted that "Smart consistently overrates his own products and his own abilities."

>Derek Smart claimed that the buggy release was the responsibility of Take-Two.

>Battlecruiser Millennium received 65% and 68% at aggregate review sites GameRankings and Metacritic respectively.

>In 2003 Gamespy named it the 19th most overrated game of all time due to the hype Derek produced with his extremely ambitious game play promises that he would ultimately be unable to fulfill.

LOL. What a bitter piece of shit.

Three words for you friend: Protestant Work Ethic
The entire "western" world (in particular the US) is saturated with this bullshit. These people literally belive that "idle" time is sinful, or at the very least unwholesome and throw all manner of fits about it.

Just look at the state of welfare literally anywhere - if you don't have a job you MUST be lazy scum and therefore deserve to be miserable. Don't mind that the entire economy is designed to have unemployed people to act as a buffer. Nope. Nothing to do with that, they're scum.
>>

Not like Derek has any money. He can't even pay Gamersgate to sell his "library" of awesome games:

What it looks like now:
https://www.gamersgate.com/publisher/53/3000ad

Two weeks ago:
https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:pZPe8GRJOuQJ:https://www.gamersgate.com/publisher/53/3000ad+&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us

http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/3000ad-inc-partners-with-gamersgate

Considering he had been with them since 2008 my guess is his account was just ignored due to zero sales but when he tried to add LoD to the storefront they told him to cough up the money. Since he likely refused they yanked all his "games" from their listing.

And now heat street put up an article about it and from reading it you can tell they took all their info from Derek.

https://heatst.com/gaming/huge-crowdfunded-project-star-citizen-gets-negative-articles-scrubbed-from-web/

They wrote that SC was in development since 2011. Given that funding didn't even start until 2012 only Derek was the one who kept pushing the narrative that they've been working on this for 5-6-7-8 years.

I don't think so either. I'm concerned that I haven't heard any viable plan to make any of the gameplay they've talked about outside of combat interesting. I'm sure CR would try to come up with something, but I'm worried the project will run out of funding, get bought out by a publisher, be released unfinished without actual gameplay mechanics, and be overrun with dads
>>
>>172524201
Gameplaey outside combat requires tons of systems to be in place, there needs to be economy, mining, AI, repair, salvaging, etc. All that shit needs animations and props to work properly also. That's a shitton of work, and if they just show you the current design document, there will be much whining from the dads and other retards, not to mention the design of these systems might change through implementation, which will cause further bitching.

I'm sure they are in process of developing all that shit, abd I don't blame them for not sharing it yet. Open development must be a fucking nightmare.

They are constantly surprised by how people keep finding ways to skip their artificial "game" and get the ships they want to fly without thousands of hours of retardation.

It's been the quiet rule since Ellen Pao took over and most of the old guard of mods left. Companies have been given huge deference over "how the conversation is shaped". Reddit has been a zombie for a couple of years now and no one will support voat until they don't have to share the front page with stormfront.

The way fdev can shut down the conversation with a single post like that is all you need to see. That's the blanket excuse the mods will use to stifle what they don't want to see. Any criticism is now considered targeted abuse against fdev.
>>
>>172537834
large groups of players working together 24 hours a day 7 days a week 365/6 days a year. Most big corps and alliance have shifts.

But no, all content should be available to all players regardless of time invested. Being able to just fucking BUY a Destroyer is SC isn't enough, they want to be able to fly it solo too, effectively for their one hour weekly play session, and use it to shit on some hard working Fringe legal salvage band who just scraped together enough credits to buy their first Reclaimer.

The demos last year were fabrications, literally nothing in them has come to fruition yet, which leads us to assume they were one off scripted sequences with no actual systems running behind them at all, just triggers and events like a map editor custom mission.

If you're sure you want to play eventually then get an Aurora MR package and the SQ42 addon, thats $60 total and honestly that's all you you should reasonable buy right now. If you REALLY want a better starter ship spend $5 more for an Aurora LN, but beyond that, even most of use fanatics are in "wait and see" mode right now. Its been a long fucking time since anything meaningful has been released and the pot of community patience is starting to boil.

Theres a Webshow coming out to day on this channel https://www.youtube.com/user/RobertsSpaceInd/videos called around the verse that might be enlightening but it might also be a pipelines and tools episode with no real meaningful information in it.

But honest, as someone who has spent $2000 on the game I cannot in good faith recommend you spend money right now, and certainly not more than minimum.

four and a half years of waiting.
I'm a borderline cultist, but not one so blind as to glaze over the problems. It think SC will be an amazing game EVENTUALLY, if they don't run out of money and/or get sued out of existence for not delivering, eventually might be literally another 3 or 4 years.

I am cynical in particular about the behavior of the marketing department, the keep roadblocking information and content releases and falsifying progress reports to push big sales points. The actual devs do seem to be working hard, but the marketing goons are playing a duplicitious game with thre progress, simultaneously pushing forward stuff that is not done and promising upcoming content that is clearly not ready and also keeping a information blackout on stuff that we know has been done for months of in some cases years but have not yet seen at all.

like 75% of the issues with SC is ommunications centered and 90% of those problems are caused by sandi and ben being dirty credit grubbing Banus. the other 10% is chris shooting his goddamned mouth off about dates when he clearly has no fucking clue.

They make more money when they release some big content tease of some big information jump in conjunction with a sale, The september Demo with the Polaris COrvette for example, which despite costing $750 made them a shitload of money, they sold literally thousands of $750 ships. I bought one even.

This incentivizes them to be very tightfisted with hype generating information/meaningful content dumps and info, and ONLY release them along with a ship sale, they have been repeatedly criticized for doing exactly this. Information has direct monetary value to them as a force multiplier when tier to sales. So unless there's something for us to buy, we don't get info.

>>172541686
>elect not to show.
They have jobs, offices, studios, and a project because of us. The fact that after we collectively have *given* them more than a hundred million dollars, they would choose to hold back information in pursuit of more money is both inappropriate and disturbing on a relational level. Part of the deal of us handing them a literal fortune in exchange for a game that existed only as an Idea in CRs head was that we would get to watch and they would actively keep us up to date, on both the good and the bad.

100% of the issues with SC are that Squadron 42 isn't out yet.

The biggest mistake they made in development was expanding the scope of Squadron 42 as funding increased.

They should have just made a mission-based space sim, shipped it holiday 2016, and saved all of the insane open universe stuff for a second game.

Can't make this up.

Honestly though I find it odd that this man, who seems to be relatively successful in his personal life, would ever encourage people to seek out a "valuable life lesson" in a fucking video game. One that he wishes to be far more grindy than it currently is, no less.

If anything he should be encouraging people not to waste their valuable time playing games and, if anything, to avoid time sinks like E:D.

You're right about when it came out. My point was holding SM up as an improvement is just wrong. I got a stack of fps games that do everything SM does, but better. Fucking f2p games are in another league. SM is babby's first fps and they are splitting up too much to develop it as a full game, on top of the actual games they are making.

>>172559641
what the fuck do we need a domination arcade mode to sort out fps animations? Hint: we don't. Thinking this has anything to do with the larger game is pants on head retarded. SM exists only to extend the replay value of the game. They could sort out fps animations and netcode without an entire extra game no one asked for.

Funny, that's actually the tell tale sign of Squadron 42 not being anywhere close to finished, they're still messing around massively with the flying model, and you can't really design a game without knowing how fast the player is going to go.
>>
>>172560468
Any "argument" that you could level against SM is equally applicable to AC.

They're both test environments, and have been used as such and described as such.

We didn't have it for as long as AC because thats how time works? Can't develop everything at the same time when you're a tiny studio.
>>
AtV fucking when?
>>
>>172560752
>have been used as such
AC yes, SM no. AC has all the gun manufacturers represented, and they are iterating on that complete layout.

SM has one example of a few types of guns, not enough to balance. SM also doesn't perform well enough to make any reasoned decision about game design. As long as the movement is half a second out of sync with everything else, SM is just window dressing.

AC has had several iterations, but the game was complete at debut. CTF was removed because no one played it. SM is still missing modes, missing guns, missing code. Comparing it to AC is just uninformed.
>>
>>172561391
What you're ripping into SM for is exactly how AC was in its first iterations you stupid fuckbaby

it had a few ships, wild imbalance, terrible performance / input and obviously superior choices. Just like SM has a few armor / gun sets. Though its performance is good.
>>
>>172561583
>Though its performance is good.
Star Marine's netcode is so advanced, bullets can travel through walls and hit people in the head.

AC debuted fucking years ago. It was literally the first bit of game to actually play. It was understood that the ship systems would be developed from there. SM was released after fps had been in the game for a while. They didn't need SM to figure out how to make fps work like ship combat, they needed SM to make your stupid ass keep playing the game even though there was no more content.

Notice how they pulled SM out of their ass right before a huge content drought in the middle of the two years between the debut of the PU and 3.0?

SM has nothing to do with making SC better as a whole, it's just a hamster wheel for you to run on.

Never cared about Bethesda engines since Oblivion but what exactly would be the core limitation?
Double-precision float can be bypassed if they don't do it all seamless but like SC was originally supposed to be, abusing gates and stuff, and they would probably limit vehicle to 'you turn into a vehicle' classic.

>>172558062
More like I expect Microsoft to develop a cheap but shiny game in one or two years, less reusing engine, and then call it Freelancer or whatever.
It doesn't matter if its inferior in every way, they'd just saturate the market with massive advertising so most people confuse it for "that edgy space game they heard about".
Star Citizen haven't spent on mass marketing, only video & events for the backers

>>172558567

Honestly fingerless gloves are useful in some fucking cold programming environments. Either due to cheapskate employers, the part of the building you're in being unheated, or due to deliberate efforts to keep a server room cold. Has anyone gotten a match of AC on the PTU? I've tried different times and always in a room by myself that maybe one person join for few minutes then leaves. I have very decent internet and a good enough rig, there just aren't any players.

Is there set times for AC matches on the PTU or something? How are we supposed to test anything? SM works perfect and always puts me in a full match. What's going on?

I guess it's better that it isn't commonly known just how good the Bucc is against a SH. Below 100m/s a Bucc can whip anything and it doesn't drift like the bigger ships do.

After this cultists were all 'we can trust him, he wouldn't have said december if he knew it wasnt close, therefor it will be out before the end of march'.

In fact I remember people on /vg/ saying that as well. Or am I misremembering? Point is, the last stage sure is taking a while.
>>
>>172603440
Designed to be held in an armored space suit glove, not a flashy human hand. So it's got a rubberized grip for traction, a smaller grip because the armored hand will have less blank space in the middle for the pistol and also the grip is probably holding a battery, not a magazine so theres no reason for it to be bulky.

Slugs can put a pretty good dent into anything.

Unlikely to penetrate but can still kill/incapacitate people behind soft armor with no trauma plate because the energy from a 1oz slug is massive.
>>
>>172605583
Depends heavily on the shell type, buckshot, not really, Rifled tungsten slugs fired with a sabot from a 3 1/2" magnum 12gauge yeah that'll fuck you through about anything a man can wear just on pure energy delivery. Penetrating blunt trauma and all.

I thought their 3000s technology suits, genetic modification, and physiological upgrades was the explanation for that. It would bother me a lot more though if the pilot wasn't blacking out from pulling a turn like that at 2,500 m/s outside of Frame Shift but hey it looks like they thought that too.

If that's their explanation the webm shouldn't have your vision dimming and controls becoming unresponsive. Gs don't change just because you're in space or above a planet.

The suits and body modifications have a limit for what you'd experience trying to turn with some of the fastest ships in the game not at Gliding speed from orbital entry.

Used a Sabre with 4x A&M Pyrobursts, I was also using 2 Pylons of 4x Rattlers each, but I really didn't use them much, and when I used them they usually were disappointing in comparison to the guns

Before this the best I was getting was round 12
