I like universal the most with the .50s. Tracers obscure the target too much and give the enemy a lot of heads up on where your bullets are, someone also told me they don't have as much incendiary filler as a non-tracer incendiary round so I would say universal is your best bet.

Russian ShVaks are weird in that a lot of their belts are viable in one way or the other. Ground Target belts have a lot of HE filling, but from spamming the I-185 they spark a fucking lot for me. Personally, I use Tracers because it has FI-T and HEF filling, specifically FI-T because ShVaks seem to rip wings like butter with the fragmentation ammo type. If you're good at aiming you could use the Stealth belt, which can make the fragmentation ammo even more deadly.

I remember a year back or so, if a plane is shot at enough its tail can snap off at the fuselage.

Can they still do that? I can't remember the last time that happened for me. Bombers especially can eat dozens of 37mm or 30mm shots to the fuselage.

Should I take out the Chi-To at 5.7 with my Tiger 1 instead of the Chi-Ri II? Same gun, but the latter seems to have a worse power-to-weight ratio and the autoloader is buggy and more a hindrance than asset. you're giving the plane directions too quickly. don't for get you're telling the plane where you want to go and its trying to interpret that into movement.

in arcade all planes have really good rudder authority, effectively turning with just the rudder, in realistic you don't have that same rudder authority, the plane must bank before it can turn.

if you want to make effective quick turns, learn to manually bank the plane (A and D keys be default) before moving the mouse to the direction you wish to go.

How does one bomb well with an assaulter? I can never divebomb with them, so without a bombsight I just have to fly at treetop with bombdelay which works fine for bases, but no so much tanks

M46 has better mobility and HEAT, but it's just regular shitty HEAT rather than fin stabilized. M26E1 has enough of a pen boost on the 90mm APHE to let it at least go through the turret face of the KT among other things.
