Hey, lads! I'm making a new mod for Victoria 2 which revolves around an alt history scenario where there was a civil war in South Africa in 1994, following the Bophuthatswana crisis, in a timeline where the AWB never attended said crisis and so never dissuaded Constand Viljoen from the notion of civil war to achieve an independent Boer state in South Africa. The mod will start with the breakdown of talks between the ANC and the government over transition to majority rule.


The states you'll be able to play as include:

Volkstaat: Consists of few white villages in Oranje and Gauteng, they're weak at the start but can grow to phenomenal strength.

AWB: This is an extremely difficult run, but in my opinion the most rewarding. You start off with one province, Ventersdorp, where Eugène Terre'Blanche was born and a strong base for the AWB. Of course, the majority of your population is black and will resent your governance, but you can fix this.

The government: Basically just an irrelevence in the Cape, this is who you start as. It is possible to prevent civil war, but only by concessions to the Afrikaners, which brings international sanctions.

uMkhonto we Sizwe: One for the redditors. Play as Mandela's terrorists.


What you can do as the different states is where the fun comes in:

The Volkstaat's aim is simply to hold Transvaal and Oranje, If you manage to seize land outside of this you can set up Bantustans for the natives and move them there.

The AWB can put blacks in "temporary camps" which is a euphemism for concentration camps. If you do this and win then foreign powers may invade you.

The government can either reform or not, Apartheid is crumbling at this point though so it's a huge upheaval to enforce it.

As the MK you basically just act like niggers, you can go town to town killing whites, looting for small arms, seizing white farms, eating what you need and burning the rest.


The reason I chose V2 for this is because it's the only game with demographics.

For your questions, to get more than one colonial nation, I would pause the game, scroll over to the new world, console the provinces to me and consoling in cores, letting the colonial nation form, give them a core in the province I want their capital to be in (New Greece for example in New Zeeland) console away their cores in the new world, console those provinces to me, then return those provinces back to the original colonial nation. In exchange for dong this fuckery, I lose the prestige from returning provinces, and gain a colonial nation. I could have spent the time in the files, but that would have taken longer. By doing this, it's how I was able to have two sub-African colonial nations, one in Australia, one in New Zeeland, and one in the other Australian trade nodes provinces.
Basically, autism.
The colony fuckery was trading manpower for population in a colony; it's why I was able to colonize all that before any euros showed up
RP missions was like the last war with china. Instead of making an actual in game mission about securing Chinese trade, I consoled claims. It's a mix of me not liking the new claims system and my not playing "seriously". Just a game man

Here's (Sub saharen) Africa. I wanted to get gud borders in Egypt and Ethiopia/Horn, and I think I did.
Of note, Mutapa and Nkore are French protectorates, the Kongo nations somehow fought off Euros and stole Angola, Brittany has this single colony in Africa, Mali and Kong chased GB and Brittany from their coastal colonies, Ajuuraan is still somehow alive, and Borno and Katsina are colonial nations, with their capital's in their respectively names provinces. From them, I push about 8 and a half ducats from that beginning trade node.

Here's Culture. France finally broke through the east coast and colonized he interior. The Katsina colonial nation only had Hausa as accepted, and spread it all across their lands. Borno, though, while accepting Kanuri, spread Turkish from some colonies I gave them into 6 more provinces.

Here's Oceania, the winner here is Tauranga at 37 development I autistically divided the provinces between the three so Oceania and New Greece had 15 provinces and New Anatolia had 14(To try to get every to have similar trade power, with New Anatolia having 1 less province and some inland provinces but a CoT in Eora)

Everythings's Turkish and Sunni due to colonizing, so I'm moving on the the East indies next

Yeah, but with the colonial nations, not only do I get the extra merchant, global trade power and force limits once they reach 10 provinces, but i can demand more money in the forms of tariffs from them. Also, they give me half of their trade power, hence why I steer a lot away from Australia and Katsina trade nodes None of that with client states, which I have to wait a while for also.

Still on first generation of my ck2+ game, I'm married to the daughter of William the Conqueror, and used her claim to take control of Normandy after the French king stole it. Now I have to deal with a war to take it back every few years. Usually I have to empty my coffers to hire mercenaries, or else goad other nations into attacking France.

Unfortunately nothing else interesting has really happened, besides Castille sweeping half the mudslimes out of Iberia before Navarre somehow stole the kingdom of Leon from them.

Here's the Far East
Ming went ham this game. Lost the mandate long enough for some of the southern provinces to break away, but regained it and retook them pretty quick. They colonized the coast and some inland until they met Russia; they've been fighting on and off with Ming winning and taking a few eastern colonies each time.Korea took what you see and that's it, I bullied away every single province I took from them. Same with Hosokawa; when I arrived It was only them and Japan left, and I think, from the provinces I bullied from them, they got the tech advantage and took over the island from Japan
There's also the few remaining nations in the Mountains, of note Jaunpur taking up a new home after being kicked from India by me

Seoul is the winner here with 43 development

Here's Mainland Europe, and I don't know where to begin
France and Spain been strong all game (although Spain fell to a pu a while ago under Portugal) Spain inherited the eastern parts of Burgundy, and has managed to hold onto some of it. If you look, they also managed to blob a bit into the HRE in the south
The pope's been a central power for a while now, and Savoy conquered a bit and played tall the rest of the game
Fucking Venice man, at one point all they owned was Venice, a province on the mainland and parts of Bosnia. They've managed to retake a good amount.
Speaking of Bosnia, a mix of threatening war with Venice and Bohemia 4 times and Venice releasing a trade city has seen the land broke up into OPM. While I didn't want the land myself, I didn't want Venice to have it as they kept building trade post to steal money from Constantinople, and I wasn't having that.

Trier is Emperor, as the Empire is Protestant, despite Prussia, Pomerania and Bohemia being electors(Although Pomerania is next in line)
I can tell you that Prussia is a Brandenburg with an AI formed Prussia under a PU, and eventually inheriting the eastern land to make Berlin the capital of Prussia, then went ham in Western Germany
Bohemia, Russia, and Prussia carved up Poland, Bohemia and Russia bullied Hungary to the point of Russia taking Transylvania and Bohemia taking the rest (Although Bohemia;s pushing into it now)
Bohemia also fucking took Vienna at on point, that's why Austria's capital is Gorz on the Adriatic
Austria's has just more or less survived. Nothing more nothing less
The winner here is Berlin and Prague, at 51 development

There are still obvious issues with supply lines to japan. the shogun has no way of stopping a stronger russian naval presence but presumably the logistics of moving supplies across siberia are still causing problems. The invasion remains successful regardless.

The feudal structure of japan collapses very shortly thereafter, with the emperor in kyoto nominally in control of everything except the shogun's lands, but local daimyos still effectively independent. Here's Russian culture, also know as the lack of Fins and hordes. Asides from some Tartars in Tambov, the horde's culture have been wiped out from Russia. Uralic is accepted from the loyalty of Perm, and Ruthenian and Byelorussian has been spread through the former Commonwealth. Finnish culture has been wiped from the earth, with loyal Karelians taking their place.
Overall, 9/10 Russia, good genocide.

What should I attempt to do with the Italian peninsula if I want to be the Eternal Gaul and recreate the heights of Napoopan?

Sardinia-Piedmont and Two Sicilies are both great powers so Italy isn't forming yet, but I'm losing influence over the Papal States as a result.

I want to somehow dismantle S-P while keeping Two Sicilies out of GP to prevent them forming Italy, but what would be the best way to do this?

I could free Lombardia, Parma, Modena and Romagna but it would take a lot of infamy and time, and I don't know if they wouldn't just get events to be annexed by S-P anyway.

Is there any way to have Italy form as a neutered version (ie, something akin to the Napoleonic Kingdom) and keep the Papal States as a sphereling and get the territory of Pietmonte? Is there even a way to get Pietmonte without annexing S-P or having Italy form?

It seems like it would all take far too much infamy and I should just let Italy form, but I don't want the Papal States to be lost from the map.

Boy, that HoI3 flavor mod really looks ebin, hope it doesn't turn iut to be anuddah africamod.

This is one of the few areas where I don't have 99% control, due to there actually being other countries in these nodes.
Southern Korea and Kyushu steer Japanese, Korean, and Manchurian trade to Hangzhou, which goes on to Malacca, where I have complete control
The conquest of the Southern and Eastern Chinese coast sees nearly all Chinese trade to either go to completely controlled Turkish lands or into inland Tibet, where, even without owning any land there, we control 2/3 of the trade
(Side note, nothing interesting in the East Indies, it seems every other nation doesn't have the merchants or range to put a merchant in Philippines or Malacca to try to steer trade away)

I created a start date, changing the religions of every single person with a count-level title or higher to a regional heresy. Waldensians and Monothelites are the new premier Christian denominations in the Eastern hemisphere.

This isn't to say that Catholicism is dead, in fact, the Society of Jesus has a 96% influence rating, after my first character joined, became the Herald, and vigorously and covertly spread Catholicism first among his own vassals, then abroad. The current Herald is the Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire.

I'm not sure what to do about shogunate japan, they'll westernize pretty soon yeah. the northern states tend to westernize later. I guess I hope the shogun has a reactionary revolt. Maybe I'll release it, then go to war with it and occupy them for a bit longer so their militancy goes up, then they have a revolt and that takes their reforms down and I have more time to conquer them entirely. I have and idea for another strategy that I know can work if done properly.

You start by doing what you did. Puppet the shogun.

Then you need to release the shogun and he will begin conquering japan because he has cores on everything(I know he will I have tested it).

The hard part is that you need to sometimes help the shogun along, but the hardest thing is to keep the damyos, the emperor and the shogun himself from westernizing. This is done by invading and letting reactionaries do their thing.

The point of all of this is to let the shogun unify japan as an uncivilized nation that you can then annex for 5 infamy in 1880. Hard but not impossible.

Pic related is my attempt that failed because the emperor became civilized and therefore he was able to resist the shogun when he invaded.

HoI4 did some things right, namely the production system, I really liked that aspect. The navy too, it was far easier to manage than previous games without taking much away from it. The division designer was nice, if a little limiting in places and having to spend hard to get army experience to change it.

As for what it did bad... Air combat was way dumbed down, actually controlling it was way to limited with the whole aerial sectors thing, cross borders were just a pain and the way to win is just spamming fighters. Land combat to a lesser extent, though the lack of presented information was just far, far to frustrating to deal with. The lack of battle reports just didn't give you a good idea of what was happening.

The map wasn't detailed enough. Limited to region names for areas, and cities and large towns. There's just no immersion to be had there.

Army, Air and Naval experience is just completely unnecessary from a wargame perspective, just serving to make the game more arcadey.

I don't have a problem of alt-history shit, I like that, makes for good stories. Too that effect, the national focus trees are interesting, but ultimately railroads the player into a few predetermined path.

I'm not even going to bother going into the battle planner, why it's such a piece of shit, penalises you for not wanting to use it, actually do more in the game than fucking line painting and fucking retarded stupid shit AI.

It's fucking impossible to micromanage. Like, holy shit fuck the icons on the battle map. HoI3 wasn't exactly steller but it's a hell of a lot better than this pile of steaming garbage.

The way resources are handled is dumb, the logistics system is dumb. I like that you produce all your individual supply's but beyond that it's just frustrating and arbitrary.

The tech tree is too simple, and it feels just fucking wrong to be able to keep technological parity with Germany as Ireland. The whole research system is just simple and fucked. HoI3's system worked, countries with limited leadership could only afford to specialise in a few things if they expected to contribute meaningfully. With this you can just do whatever.

To conclude. HoI4 is a game, not a Wargame. It should be a wargame, since it comes from a family of wargames. Made and marketing for a casual audience, it feels like Paradox are slowly forgetting the small, dedicated, autistic playerbase deep into the rabbit hole of grand strats and 4x's that required a certain level of autism to even understand. With their stupid fucking business model, spitting out dozens of shit DLC's that are fucking over priced. Anyone remember SotS II?

HoI4 was never going to be the ultimate autistic grand strategy people wanted it to be, it never was and never will be. We sadly have to face the fact that Paradox have moved on from the original playerbase that kept them going, and now have the money and the influence to market their games to a much larger influence.

Ottomans don't really even need allies so Diplomatic is pretty pointless. I'd go with a military group, Quantity in particular is pretty broken since its finisher is +50% force limit. Offensive and Quality are also good military groups. Trade will help make you a lot of money, while Exploration is good if you want to try colonizing. Administrative is good and Economic is also quite useful, but admin idea groups in general might be too expensive for now.

Overall though, the Ottomans are the most powerful tag in the game, perhaps besides Ming, so you really can pick pretty much any idea group and perform spectacularly. Just pick what seems the most fun.
