The tower was a weapon aimed at the moon that was supposed to destroy what the machine network thought was humanity. The tower was a launch platform for a rocket for the robots to leave the earth and see the rest of the galaxy. After Adam and Eve influenced the machine network with their desire to understand and be as humans, their goals became to evolve and progress. As far as I understand they're similar in 'role' to Adam and Eve, sort of overseers of the machine lifeform network.

Obviously spoilers for NieR

The shadowlord spent a solid 1,000+ years waiting for the Gestalt project to end, but it wasn't showing any signs of coming to a close. He got impatient and the Popola and Devola of that game caved and decided to start the merging process and orchestrated NieR and Weiss's meeting. NieR fucked up by causing Weiss to lose his verses, which were the codified information on how to merge a replicant and gestalt, so they sent NieR all over to recollect them.

Then they fucked up a second time when that didn't bring Weiss's memories back and they waited WAY too long to let him in on what was going on, and in the meantime, NieR got stronger than the shadowlord, so when things came to blows NieR and Weiss killed the shadowlord, dooming humanity.

The original Popola and Devola caused the extinction of mankind by coming up with way too complicated of plans and refusing to do anything themselves, and then the world forgets who NieR ever was in ending D, so all the blame comes down on them, and by extension, all other Popola and Devola models.

There's a pod in the desert that is maybe a little easier to locate if you have it in, but only if you can't hear the ear-rape that denotes its presence. Also, they put a quest area marker above its general area, so not really, no.

Everything was already going to shit before the shadowlord died because Replicants were becoming self-aware and becoming 'different' personalities than their original Gestalts, which resulted in them both breaking down, but the research logs in the game imply that's a inevitable progression and would always occur unless the rejoining occurred.

The way the game puts it, it's like the odds were 20% pre-NieR bungling, but absolutely 0% afterwards.

I think hard is perfect. Core of the game is learning when and when not to attack and mastering the core mechanic is where the reward of playing is imo. Else the modules and weapons you get become meaningless.

It's a common assumption, but Demon's Souls can currently be emulated and played to the end. The emulation is rough and the sound breaks, but it's getting there. And with every improvement things get closer.

Just finished all the endings and I gotta say this game is a piece of fucking dog shit. I have played all drakengards and nier in their release date and I expected SO much more than this shitty story with a billion and one plotholes that I simply cannot believe the amount of praise this game is getting.

Compare it to the first nier for example, even the god damn vendor npc had a sad story that tied up to one of the bosses, which was an incredible guilt trip, yet this one had what? Some forced romance bullshit between 9s and 2b and that hunk of bullshit with Pascal? Big fucking woop. It dragged on for too fucking long, there was no need whatsoever to replay the entire game as 9s when the only worthwhile shit that came out of it was that humanity was already extinct, something that I was already expecting since they very beginning with those automated humanity emails. For fuck's sake, it was so fucking obvious that 9S even comments on how stiff and robotic the guy from the council sounded like.

The bullshit between 9S and A2 being completely due to a shitty hamfisted and forced as fuck misunderstanding was cheap as all fuck. It's like he didn't know how to force us on some shitty guiltrip so he just shoved it down our throats. I mean, seriously? A2 couldn't simply say the bitch was infected and hand him over her garbage sword with the memories? Or at least make it """"""tragic""""""" and let 9S attack her without notice and hack her only to see 2B's memories within A2's. Hell, you don't even need to go that far, the fucking Pod should have told 9S that 2B had been infected, since they noticed that 9S was lusting for revenge and they were worried about it. What a load of bullshit.

I'm angry, like, really fucking angry, because I wanted to like it so bad, I love drakengard and nier so much that it fucking hurts how much I hated this game. The music and character designs are so over the fucking top, and that sweet platinum gameplay on top of it felt like christmas. Once Emil says he put all of his stuff in a container I need to go with 9S, the problem is I'm pmaying with A2.

What happens if I saved already before the goliath battle and jump into chapter selection to play as 9S and go there, is Emil's house still with the container to be hacked?

To me the game felt like an obnoxiously long foreplay with no orgasm in sight. It was completely unsatisfying. It just kept building up over and over again even to the point where it legit gave me goosebumps after ending B when "Director Yoko Taro" appeared on screen. I thought to myself "HOLY fucking shit, NOW is when this game actually starts", but that was it.

I expected tragic stories like Beepy or the Wolf and instead I got some ok at best attempt at it with Simone. I didn't even give a fuck about Pascal's children because they simply dragged his story for too fucking long for me to give a fuck anymore, and I could see it coming a mile away. Still, I literally rolled my eyes when I witnessed the mass suicide of the children, it felt so forced. Like, just throw some random shitty mob in there and have me kill it while Pascal screams or something, or maybe infect them and have them kill each other. I mean, I was already rolling my eyes at how they conveniently left the children out of the mass infection for no fucking reason at all. I could already see how they would be used as guiltrip bait right then and there.

To me this game had only 3 truly worthwhile moments: the mass infection of yorha (even though the commander conveniently not being insta-infected like everyone else for the sake of le ebin guiltrip goodbye scene was forced as fuck), 2b's death and BECOME AS GODS! Everything else felt either half-finished, lazy or uninspired to me and aside from gameplay, the first Nier did everything this game attempted to do better in every single way. The ending E with that nonsense about you not being alone and all that low effort emotional bait also felt like it came out of fucking nowhere when I was expecting something at least comparable to drakengard 3's madness with the final boss.

I think that's where I will start to disagree a bit, there was some interesting parts here and there which made me keep up with the story.

I think they kind of fucked up the passing by putting a lot of the important plotpoints in the things to collect and read.

Stop me if I'm wrong for example but, let's take A2 for example, if you play the game "normally" you don't know where she's coming from, you don't know her past, you didn't even know why she's a ""traitor"".
It create a fuck ton of plotholes.

As you said again, the story is not coherent, which make it less enjoyable.
And because the pacing was kind of fucked up, a lot of the "emotional" scenes turn out to be either kind of forced or you can see them coming.

Still, overall I think I would give the game an easy 7.5/10.
As much as I love the orig Nier, for me it's a 6/10 game.

Anyone else love how gung-ho Pod 042 was about the stamp collecting and treasure hunt side quest? He was pushing you so hard to do them. He seemed like he was having fun.

Automata relies on stuff beyond the game for showing how the machine network was established.
It relies on data entries within the game to answer a lot of small questions people would still have once the game was finished. The number of small details that weren't touched on in the beginning middle and end of the story is an issue, but there's nothing "desperate" about it's narrative.

I'd rather you leave tbqh, blind hate for Automata is just as bad as blind praise for Automata. And for Nier, for that matter.

There's an incredibly easy to miss side quest with A2 and Anomene that opens up some VN reports of Anomeneoeoe meeting A2's squad and having some minor yuribait antics before they all die tragically. It's not a bad bit of writing even if it is so predictable.

I don't think you're wrong, if you felt like it was better off with how you feel, by all means feel that way. I think I was fine as it was and I felt the details I was presented with, without finding every scrap of detail, I was able to fill in most blanks with satisfactory answers.

That was really the final straw for me.
They clearly put a lot of effort into making it better than 4 almost every way, but they just had to fuck with the story direction. 4 is a more primitive game, but it's more of a main-line experience.

I hope that those new projects salvage what ambitions the team tried to have with 4, but then completely abandoned with 4:A.
