I remember the first time I played Now or Never. I was determined to romance Triss and thought I fucked something up when she left. I was so sad, but seeing her return brought a huge smile on my face and made the moment even better. And the lighthouse talk after was beautiful.

Nothing, Triss says how he will always have a home waiting once he gets tired from doing witcher stuff, but Geralt still decides to go to Kovir in the end so there is no noticeable difference in the outcome.

Triss is an amazing character, she has a very unique set of qualities and flaws. She can be kind, sweet, funny and idealistic but also naive, jealous, manipulative and treacherous. She is insecure but capable of taking charge when the situation forces her, she commits both selfish and selfless acts and is driven by both personal and "higher" motives, which sometimes conflict. I think she is a very interesting character.

Triss has also done some good things in the books. She tried her best to help Ciri at KM and in many ways, she did. She even suggested that Geralt to seek Yen out when she realized a more powerful sorceress is needed. She saved Geralt's life at Thanned, she voted to let Ciri go meet him on the Lodge meeting and she came through in Rivia when she saved Yen's life. I never found her motivations to be malicious or evil, she was misguided by her ideals and acted believing it's for the greater good.

In the games she directly saves Geralt's life 6-7 times, she helps witchers get their secrets from Salamandra, she takes Geralt's side against the Lodge during the Loc Muine meeting proving where her loyalty stands, she lets herself get tortured, she comes to help with the battle even if Geralt dumps her for Yen, she helps them locate the Lodge members and participates in the final battle. Triss is a flawed character, but she shows a lot of growth.

And I like her romance with Geralt and how both of them act around each other. Their dynamic and chemistry is amazing and makes me smile.

Is this gen basically dead now.?

I just got Witcher 3 today lads. Played it for a couple hours, beat the griffen and to be honest I'm a little overwhelmed, especially with the amount of items available and the crafting thing. Im having fun though.

Anyway, am I okay just dumping all my ability points into combat skills? Can i avoid the spells without gimping myself too much? I've never liked being a wizard in games, I just like stabbing shit.

Should be fine to ignore signs, they're best for utility anyway, though I'd recommend not disregarding them entirely, they have some neat alternate effects you can unlock, like magical turrets, or turning enemies into allies for the duration of a fight. There's also Delusion, which is good for dialogue, and means you can sometimes resolve issues without a fight, or get a better option in general, and I think it gives you xp each time you use it that way.

Combat tree's pretty good on it's own, though, if that's what you want to go with.

Yeah, you can focus on a sword build with no issues. If you're playing on normal difficulty, you can easily complete the game just chopping shit up and using minimal potions and signs. For crafting equipment, focus only on the witcher gear.

It's such a great moment though. That whole quest is one of my favorites. Even the dialogues that happen during gameplay, like Geralt worrying about rats biting Triss or her thanking him and saying how much it means to have someone to rely on. Also, I can't help but love Dijkstra trying to play the matchmaker. Triss' motivation speech is also awesome. An amazing quest all around for Triss lovers.

Sure. I recommend dabbing to Alchemy to grab at least Acquired Tolerance because it's probably one of the best skills in the game and costs just 3 points. You should also pick a School Techique of your choice from the general tree to fit your armor, they help a lot. Except for that you can go full combat if you want. Maybe take Delusion from Sign tree for dialogues.

What are some fun builds for deathmarch?

I want to do a combat/sign build, just kinda hard to fit everything I want. Just feels like there's not enough slots, I guess. I want to focus mainly on heavy attacks, with light attacks being filler for when I can't quite get the heavy in. Igni and Aard are nice, nut sure about Yrden, don't really use it much outside of wraiths, and delusion for dialogue is kind of necessary for me, which makes it a shame that you need to even have it equipped for it to work, since it's not something I use too much in actual combat, so my slots are already down to 11 with that.

A 'book Geralt' build would maybe be neat to try out, too. Going off my limited look into them, Geralt's pretty weak in the books compared to the games, especially 3. I mean going off his fight with the Princess Striga in The Lash Wish, I remember him using Aard, and Axii, or some equivelant to calm Roach at some point when they got spooked by something in the woods as he came across what appeared to be an abandoned manor. Would probably have some sort of mix between combat, minor signs, alchemy, and misc stuff like the 'style' skills for wearing full types of a specific armor.

Trying a no delusion playthrough right now. It's a skill you really take for granted when you have it, I didn't remember having it as an option in conversations half this number of times, but I'd recommend trying it at least once. Normally I don't like taking alt yrden because it makes it really easy to cheese fights, and alt quen is just cheating. By the same token I did a sign build my very first game and igni was OP as fuck once you got decently specced and equipped.

The more I think of it, the more I'm really tempted to try out a book-based build of Geralt, or at least mostly book-based, but with the level of ability spread, you wouldn't really have access to fun stuff like rend or whirl, the latter giving me fond memories of group-style fighting from Witcher 1. I haven't ever messed with Quen, since the base level is pretty much perfect as it is, and would feel pretty broken if I were able to sustain it AND get healing from that.

I'm taking a crack at a book-based Geralt build, but I can't quite seem to think of a third sign I could work at, since he uses signs so infrequently, and Igni is apparently more of a 'burning hands' touch-based sign instead of a flash of sparks or a stream of fire. I'm thinking of ignoring that because fuck it not like I can chance that, and just dumping some points into melt armor, otherwise Aard sweep is probably fine.

For alchemy I'm ignoring the bomb skills, because I never really heard of Geralt using bombs in the books, and I don't particularly fancy them for much, outside of utility ones like moon dust.

I'm not exactly familiar with the alchemy talents. Heightened Tolerance would probably be useful, Acquired Tolerance for a bit higher toxicity level. Not sure I care for any of the 8-point-in talents, though. None of them seem particularly fitting.

I'm also thinking of going with 3 general talents. Survival Instinct, Metabolic Control, and Griffin School techniques sound alright, but I dunno.

It's a definite work in progress, but I think it'd make for a bit of an interesting run in Death March, keep things challenging.

I'm also shit at making builds, it's not my strong point at all, so I now have an excuse for making something nonoptimal.

Philippa and Geralt is probably the least likely ship in the game and Sile got fucked in the dungeon. The books only made me love Triss more. I like how flawed and human she is. I like seeing her insecurities and struggles. Her internal monologue while she was in KM, her desperate attempts to get with Geralt, the way she jealously observes Fringilla and how glad she was when Geralt tricked her. You can't choose who you will fall in love with and Triss had the misfortune to fall in love with Geralt.

Besides, Geralt clearly has a soft spot for Triss, sure, he only sees her as a friend, but she is the only one that makes Yen act jealous both at Thanedd and in the scene you quoted. There is a reason CDPR chose Triss as one of the main romance options in all three games.

Triss also did some good things in the books, not all is black and white in TW universe. She helped Ciri at KM, saved Geralt's life on Thanedd, she came back in Rivia and saved Yen, she voted in favor of allowing Ciri to see Geralt and she did nothing to stop Ciri in the end despite the Lodge sending her with that purpose.

I think Triss is very interesting due to the unique combination of her flaws and virtues, her vulnerability, but also hidden strength. She shows tremendous amount of growth throughout the series and being able to make her dreams a reality in the games makes me happy :3

Damage to who? I am merely discussing my favorite character and I have no problem admitting that Triss is a deeply flawed character, but that's what I like about her.

While there was no love in the romantic sense between Geralt and Triss, there was a different kind of affection between them. Geralt invites her to KM, later when she gets sick, he diligently takes care of her despite Triss acting desperate and having no self respect to the point of even annoying Yarpen and Ciri. Still, Geralt treats her with care and turns her down as gently as possible.

Here are some nice quotes I like that show that Geralt does care for Triss.

Fringilla was a true fling. With Triss, Geralt has a friendship he doesn't want to ruin, he knows he will never be able to reciprocate Triss' feelings but he still cares for her and doesn't want to hurt her.

Fringilla never reached that bond with Geralt, he was merely using her for sex. He even called her Yen during sex. I think he appreciated the role she filled in his life when he needed it, that's what he meant when he told her he loved her in some way. But he never truly trusted her and he knowingly lied to her, brutally discarded and humiliated her in front of other sorceresses in the end. He basically used Fringilla in a way he would never use Triss.

And I never said he did. In the books Geralt only loves Yen, that is pretty clear and I would never deny that. Still, it doesn't change the fact he cares for Triss. I think CDPR made a right decision to make Triss a major love interest.

In the games, without his previous memories of Yen and the feelings he has for her in the way, Geralt can get to know Triss again and see her in a different light for the first time. That's how I like playing him. When Geralt met Triss he was already deeply in love with Yen, but in the games he gets a clean slate.

And I don't hate Yen or anything, she is amazing, but I simply find Triss and her arc more interesting.

I didn't turn in Redania's Most Wanted, and I'm not sure if this is a bug or what, so I thought I'd ask.

I decided to give the crystal to Yen, I don't think there's any real change depending on who you give it to, even if you give it to Radovid. Anyway, fast forward to after de-cursing a some faget, I stopped by Triss' place to recruit her for the cause, and also do her quest, and was apparently able to give her the crystal as well, even though Yennefer has it.

It kind of confused me that I had the option.

Well, don't forget that when Triss did try to talk about the past in the beginning of the first game, but Geralt cut her off and told her he is not ready to talk about it yet. Their romance happens on his initiative, it's not like Triss came up with some evil elaborate plan to seduce Geralt. He is the one who goes his way to start a relationship with Triss, who even acts reluctant and asks Geralt to prove he is serious with the whole ring and Alvin shit. She never forced him to do anything.

Of course Triss could have been more insistent in bringing up his past before accepting his advances and starting a relationship with Geralt, but knowing Triss from the books and how incredibly desperate she was for Geralt it's not surprising she accepted. Having Geralt, a man she loved for years coming back from the dead and wanting to be with her proved as too much of a challenge for Triss. It was a shady and selfish thing to indulge, but human and understandable at the same time.

I don't think she had a way to get his memory back immediately and she actively encourages Geralt to make his own decisions and form a personality outside of her influence, saying how his memory should start returning on its own, which eventually happens, so it's not like she lied about it. And as soon as Geralt asks her to tell him about his past, she does. It would be far worse if she lied to him and invented stuff that never happened, but she didn't. Geralt even tells Regis in BaW that Triss helped him get his memories back.

Not at all, I never liked redheads irl. Black hair and sarcastic personality are very appealing to me. Like I said, Triss' unique and flawed but kind personality won me over. Yen definitely has her charms and I can easily say more bad things about Triss than her, but that's one of the things that makes Triss so interesting to me.

As a HEMAfag I really appreciate the animations in the Witcher 3

The guard positions are all appropriate and realistic. Ochs, pflug and alber are all well represented. The strikes are very exaggerated but they're mostly how I imagine a superhuman would pull off the oberhau and unterhau. They definitely spent a lot of time researching it and it's really cool to see it in a game.

Same way as looking up choices up front does. It takes all the weight from them and removes one of the most interesting parts of the game, not knowing what consequences your actions might have. In my first playthorugh I made some mistakes and stood by them fully. Annabelle tricked me, real murderer in Carnal Sins got away, I broke Dijkstra's leg and probably some more yet to this day the ending I got in my first playthorugh is my favorite because I feel like I deserved it and consider it my "canon" run.

I agree, Sile got fucked hard. I think she should have gotten a Letho like cameo if she survived TW2. Rita is also a wasted cameo, similar to Fringilla. Rita originally played a larger role and was part of Menge's quest, but it got cut.

Sile was also listed as a main character early in the development suggesting she originally had a bigger role.

Yeah, Dandelion's quests dragged on needlessly. Also, Dandelion himself can be quite annoying in the games. If reading the books drastically changed my opinion on any character, that's Dandelion. He is much better in the books.

So why dont armorers and blacksmits show properly on the large map, when literally everything else does?

Fuck off. I wanna know what happens in the alternativ paths you can take. I always stick to the one I pick in my first attempt, but there is no harm in going back and seeing what else can happen. Especially when there are no serious repercussion anyway, and I just wanna have a laugh during the less serious quest lines and explore all dialogue options. Like the one were you pretend mugging that grill with dandelion. I just had to see what happens when you beat him up in the fight. Even though I would never do it in my actual playthrough.

I mean the first scene in which you see Yen in witcher 3 is her btfoing 2 armies and being the Emperor's sorceress, the first scene you see of Triss is her getting yelled at by a Beggar King and chasing down rats while she looks it you with tiery bambi eyes.

Nah, as someone who chose Yen in the game, I only chose her cause it was clear the game wanted me to, but she's an absolute bitch, she may love Geralt and Ciri, but damn if she shows it frequently, even how you guys talk at Corvo Bianco pissed me off, Geralt just accepting that he'll only ever know or be told things if Yen feels he needs to know and only on her schedule. Your friends, Vesemir and Cerys knowing that you're her dog and she treats you like shit frequently, and honestly, if you guys keep breaking up badly and getting back together time and again, you need to just move on cause that shit's toxic and just not gonna work. They'll be in the honeymoon stage from thinking it's real love and not Djinn magic, with no focus on contracts or politics until it sours and things get boring in a couple years.

I like how gentle and delicate Triss is but also tough and resilient at the same time and I like how protective Geralt is of her. You don't see him act like that with Yen, because she doesn't let her vulnerable side show, while Triss not only shows it, but also purposely plays it at times.

Similar with Geralt acting lovey dovey, Yen mocks it and shut him down, while Triss embraces it with joy.

Nothing worse than wraith rape squads in the entire fucking game. They are by far the most difficult common enemy in the game. They can fucking stunlock and take two thirds of your health if you fuck up once and they are super fast. I'd rather fight two fiends at once than four wraiths.
