Hey guys, new to this game, I just got to level 5.
I was wondering, is there a way to see if cat school technique is active? My damage/crit damage numbers (on the character screen) don't change if I take off armor. All I need to do to have it active is put it on one of the slots on the right, and wear -any- light armor, right?

Get Acquired Tolerance. No matter the build, just take it.
If you want to be fast and damaging go with Cat School armor+Bear school swords. Maybe by endgame consider switching Cat armor for Manticore if you're really into Alchemy and crits.
Atm I'm running a crit based Combat/Alchemy build with lot of crits and I'm close to end game. It almost trivialized the game on Death March.
Also play on Death March, It will be funnier.

I quite enjoyed her conversation with Geralt, it was pretty much perfect. A bit of talk about Kovir, some jokes, some loving teasing, some genuine love expressions...When he started talking about Vegelbud's, how beautiful Triss looked in her dress and how it was a magical evening, I was like, yeah, that's my Geralt alright...and it feels nice coming home from doing some side quests and seeing her there.

Other women from the universe are pretty cool too, but Triss is just something special. She is a deeply flawed person in many ways, she made mistakes in the past, but she works on improving herself and she is kind, sweet, funny, smart, cute and she has the perfect chemistry with Geralt. Seeing him act all romantic and protective of her and how she embraces his love is pretty amazing.

Eh, I didn't really care about that. Geralt's love life is his concern only. Ever since the first game(and especially in the second) I got this feeling of Geralt and Triss being on their own against the world and their love being something just between the two of them. I don't know how to describe exactly what I mean, but it's part of the special chemistry they have. It's like Geralt knows what he feels for Triss and how she feels about him and Triss knows it too, but they keep their affection for when they are alone. I really can't put words to it tbqh, it's just the feeling I have.

Holy fuck did CDPR absolutely shit all over the ending of LotL. It seems like they had absolutely no idea how to implement Geralt into the games after his death so they half assed the explanation and left us with 3 great games that can only be considered great if you consider them, basically, fan fiction.

It's almost sad that I can't enjoy the games like I used to, but the books were so good it's worth it.

TL;DR Read the books, Sapkowski is amazing. That being said, you will most definitely consider the story of the games "shoehorned" if you do.

I disagree, there is enough Triss romance content after Novigrad. After the waifu patch, Triss actually has more romance content than Yen in the third act. She has the KM scene, the earring scene, the fountain scene, the tent, the boat talk, the talk to Ciri during Payback as well as talk to Ciri on the boat and there is also BaW where she and Yen also get equal amount of romance content. Yen has one extra sex scene and Triss has one extra romance scene.

Yen is more involved in the main quest regarding Ciri which makes perfect sense, but as far as romance content goes, there isn't that much difference.

I'm trying to go for the witcher ending for Ciri, but I'm a little confused, because there's different guides, but they seem to be contradictory in some parts.

Like, can you not take Ciri to see Emyhr if you want the Witcher ending? I thought as long as you didn't accept the coin it was fine, but I'm tempted to reload before I skipped going to visit him, so I can get the Nilfgaardian mare you get, but I don't want to get the Empress ending. I think I've chosen the best options so far, going off the lists I've seen, but that one bit seems to be a little confused.

Well, you are free to enjoy whatever you want more, we all have our preferences. I am not stating as a fact that games are better than books. Truth is, gaming as a medium has a lot of catching up to do if it ever wants to match literature in storytelling and it's questionable if that is even possible. I am merely saying that as an overall experience I enjoyed the games more, replayed them many times and will replay them for years to come.

Books are pretty great too, once I got started, I couldn't stop reading and I definitely think that everyone who loves the games should at least give them a chance. Continuity wise, I can accept the plot, amnesia was a decent enough excuse to give Geralt a more open personality and allow for more player input, something I personally care about a lot and something I feel is the only comparative advantage games have over books when it comes to storytelling possibilities.

Well, the books had a strong narrative and a cohesive story. The games change the tone and direction with every iteration. TW1 was a shitty fanfic with recolored donut steel OCs, TW2 was a politics simulator, and TW3 tried to be a sequel to both the games and the books and the result was a bit of a mess.

That said, I still enjoyed all the books and the games. Though I vastly prefer the books' ending to BnW's waifushack shit.

Not that it's too dark, the problem is that whole story that grows for hundrets of pages, ends within thirty by vilgefortz&co kills everyone, leftovers are finished by angry mob. I didn't like the resolution, it was a rushed mess imo.

TW1 was definitely not a shity fanfic, but an attept to adapt the characters and world to a new medium - suprisingly successful. Although i didn't like the mutants part.

TW2 was indeed politics fuck you aep arse simulator, too bad finished too soon.

Similar issue I have with TW3 - most of its problems come from cutting the plot - so we have Yen, Ciri, Avallach, political plot, and some others, unresolved properly. Some might bitch about retconning the white cold into magical powder, but i think connecting it with aen elle was a good idea. The "happy endings" of the series somehow feel off, you're right. I can't imagine Geralt and Yen living happily ever after in a vineyard and, let's be honest - Triss romance is a total fanfic. Still, in that medium the bad endings hit too hard i think.

Overall both have their issues, but I have to say I'm really happy that book and story that was my obsession at school got so good vidya continuation.

That's true. I think the bad ending is thematically the best but getting it after putting 150 hours into the game would have been pretty crushing, especially if it was the only option available. The empress ending sort of hit the right balance and was just bittersweet enough, too bad it's tied to papa Emhyr.

Yeah, props to CDPR, they made great improvements with every game and despite its flaws TW3 was still a great sendoff to the series.

The post-launch support time was limited and they chose to dedicate it to the expansions. Once these were done only the skeleton crew remained to make bugfixes and such, the rest of the team was moved to other projects. Paid EE could have also gotten them negative press, they wouldn't want to ruin their pro-consumer reputation by making a paid EE for their final game.

I personally would have wanted an EE instead of BnW and the forsaken waifu patch but I've accepted that unfortunately CDPR has other priorities.

Hey Yenfags, I'm genuinely curious...how would you imagine more Yen/Ciri interactions to be added and implemented? The story is mainly told through Geralt's perspective and the player is only exposed to the stuff he sees and experiences. In the books you can easily show a scene between Yen and Ciri or any character. You can also easily express their inner thoughts and feelings, but in the games you are only limited to Geralt.

I remember back in the day, when Triss changes were confirmed, there were people advocating for more Yen/Ciri content, but I never saw one concrete example of what that would look like. Triss fans gave a list of suggestions and some of it made it to the game while the people wanting more Yen/Ciri content never did that and only said they want more content without specifying any details and focused more on bitching about Triss rather than being constructive.

I am Geralt x Triss lover for life, but I do like Yen and Ciri and would also like to see more interactions between them. I even supported their petitions. The way I see it, maybe they've could have added a Ciri sequence where Yen would play some part and have her and Ciri interacting throughout. Like Avallac'h lab scene. Maybe they could have had us playing as Ciri and have only Yen accompany her. It could have been a nice opportunity to see the two of them talk about stuff. Or if Geralt romanced Yen, they could have added a moment with all three of them. What would you like to see?

Some exploration of Avallach would be even more needed, as his motivations and character seem incomplete they way they are. Longer part betweed defeating Eredin and confronting Avallach could serve that purpose as well.

And I see no reason not to have both Yen and Ciri visiting Corvio Bianco at B&W

Seems reasonable to me. In the lab quest, Ciri even says how she though Yen was a shrew when she first met her but grew to love her or something like that when you approach them for the first time and listen to what they are talking about so there is some interaction at least but I agree, it could have been expanded.

I would have also loved more Lodge content, and the original script had Yen sell them out to Emhyr during the final battle and that is something that was cut really late in the development. There is even recorded dialogue you can play using console commands so they already had plans for the Yen/Lodge tensions.

Avallac'h was also the final boss in one of the original endings and I agree that his motivations needed more highlight. Funny thing I just remembered, in the original bad dad ending, if Geralt romanced Triss he would survive and go to Kovir and if he romanced Yen, it would play out as it currently does, possibly suggesting that Yen took Ciri death badly and either dumped Geralt or committed suicide herself.

And on the Triss side for people wanting more content with her, they could have added her to Sunstone quest with Philippa(originally she was present there) and have interactions between Triss and her two biggest loves, Phil and Geralt. It would put her in a awkward situation and it would be funny to see how she would act.

Game needed about one year more for proper plot development - you see how they went into details and careful writing at Velen (best part of mq imo, both Baron and the Crones), started to hurry in Novigrad (long nonsence with busting out Dandelion plot which brings nothing in conclusion, and merryly lives in Novigrad ever after, with witchhunters that kept him in prison partying in his own bar, abandoned Beggar King plot), and were galloping hard ever since (rushed Skellige and KM).

Both Ciri and Eredin are victims of that.

It's a game over scenario. You can't get that scene and complete the game. Besides, Triss saved Geralt's life 5 minutes prior to that scene, using all of her energy, so it's not like she could do anything anyway. It's a legitimate outcome if you choose to end the game there though.
