I disagree actually, in my opinion it is not so much about getting the best time as much as it is just replayablility. Either Shadow, 06 or Secret Rings, although it's been so long since I've played any of them.

06 is probably the worst, seeing as it's actually unfinished, but there's more that I enjoy about it than the other two. Most of the Sonic levels are good fun, and have some surprisingly nice level design.

Shame. I hated the execution but I do like the idea that Sonic has a darker side to him, a more angry side. That he's not as infallible as he seems.

I mean, Sonic doesn't wear his emotions on his sleeve. In fact he's really reserved about them. All the shit he's gone through, it's probably affected him at least a small bit. Stuff like Chip being gone, Shahra's death, Shadow's death and revival, he doesn't let it get to him, he tries to keep going. How much emotion has he held back for the sake of others?

So the idea of a Dark Sonic is interesting, because, at least to me, it could be those emotions, his complex about not letting his true feelings show, finally manifesting itself somehow. In contrast to Super Sonic, which is him in complete control, Dark Super Sonic could be like the wind itself: uncontrollable, unpredictable, and seemingly unbiased in what it will hurt

Heroes.

It's sorta the point where I dropped out of the main franchise. I still played Riders, advance/rush and the storybook games but heroes really put me off for a long time. It's just such a weak game, and the story and the characterisations were clearly meant for a younger, dumber audience that I felt like I was phased out, so I went and played other games instead. Barring a few cringe tracks it had some neat music. But I really didn't like basically everything about heroes, from repetition, "story", cutscenes, character swapping on the fly, level design etc.

I came back for unleashed which was half good, and colours which I liked more, and then gens which was alright but for some reason has started running like shit on my PC lately.

On PC I played Freedom Planet over 600 hours and made a guide for it. But its still not accumulative of how many hours I poured into Sonic Across multiple systems with multiple copies of the same game just to 100% them each time of aquirement. That and I have a backlog of games I am unsure which to play now and sort of on a Sonic Block I am so so sorry.

A couple things I thought I'd nitpick about:


With the introduction of Sonic Mania, Sonic the Hedgehog 4 can't be considered canon anymore. After all, Episode I states that Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles separated after S3&K. Sonic only met Tails afterwards in Sonic 4: Episode II. Hell, the website for Sonic 4 even specified that Tails was SECRETLY supporting Sonic in Episode I with his rocket. Sonic Generations confirms that the Classic and Dreamcast+ periods of Sonic are separate. In other words, green-eyes Sonic takes place after black-eyes Sonic. But in Sonic Mania, Sonic DOES go an adventure with Tails, while still being in the Classic Era.

Secondly, you seem to have forgotten about Sonic Shuffle. Although ambiguously canon, it still had a story.

Thirdly, you inspect the throwaway lines way too much. Blaze's lines have nothing to do with her "internal chronology" or whatever. It's just a nod to 06.

Last, just a tip for timeline placement, Sonic Rush takes place after Rivals. And here's why it can't take place before. In Sonic Rivals 2, Sonic (and maybe Tails, I can't remember all that well) sees Eggman Nega, but doesn't recognize him and thinks that it's Eggman with a disguise on. He can't tell the same until later in Rush. If Rush did take place before Rivals, then that would mean that Sonic would already know who Eggman Nega was at that point. This creates a contradiction that can only be rectified by placing Sonic Rush and Sonic Rush Adventure after Sonic Rivals 1 & 2. For reference, my sample Modern Era timeline ordered by release date and timeline placement:

I would be more hype if Forces only focuses on the Boost only game and have other characters implement it similar to the genesis titles.

The problem with the Boost gameplay standing on its own is that the levels need to be so huge to accommodate it that it would be an extremely short game, because making enough levels with their own assets and setpieces to get at least 10 hours out of the boost gameplay alone is simply not feasible. They try to wave this with padding like Classic Sonic and act like this improves the pacing, which it does in a way, but I think you can do that without tacking on a different playstyle.

The boost gameplay is flawed by default, and it's something I've been saying for years. They don't want to stray from what's been tried and true for success, but they don't want boosting to get stale either. There's only so many loops and quick-step sections I can run through before it starts to feel like I'm going through the motions, and this wouldn't be a problem if the levels gave you more control instead of the constant speed boosters and scripted sequences with virtually non-existent difficulty.
