I can run you through how it works with me if that helps.

depends on what you mean by good money, I don't get a lot of commissions, and I try to keep my prices down. So I make little money by way of doing few drawings. But it's not about the money for me it's more about getting to do what I enjoy. I like drawing sonic stuff, and getting to give people what they want is awesome as all hell. If someone can't draw and want to see two characters they love fighting, or something and I'm a shortcut for them? I'd love to do it. I pay people to draw stuff for me because I love their style so I get the appeal of commissioning from both sides.

I'd love to earn a regular amount which is why I've considered patreon, but I've yet to bite the bullet on it, especially since I only do sonic stuff. But I'm fine making a few bucks a month.

So far this month I've made $30 through two drawings, I won't be retiring anytime soon, but hey, it's $30 and I got to draw! I would gladly spend all my free time drawing for min wage.

If I ran a patreon that didn't paywall any content, but instead patreons just got access to raffles and got to pick who was drawn next and what they were doing etc, would that be the best way to run one? And if nobody paid I'd still do the same artwork and put it out as often as I normally did.

I'm tempted to approach a patreon but you guys seem to be a good sounding board for if it'd make me look like a money grubbing asshole or not.

But nah, I guess, Solid Snake is great and all, but it was nice to see all this from an outside perspective. Patricide and killing Metal Gears and stupid plots are the norm for Snake, it was nice seeing how a very surprised and confused rookie took all this in.
Yeah I mean, if you took in raw ability, Raiden's a fucking loser compared. But by character, you have a very annoyed agent trying to do his mission when everyone else is acting fucking weird. His girlfriend has come up and as such he's even more reserved with his past and his actions and thoughts, and when everything's going wrong he actually reacts like everything's going wrong. As a character, he's fucking great in 2.

Well, it's hard to judge your mission when the strings were being pulled behind you the entire time. I mean, Snake worked as a Patriot tool the entire fucking series give or take.
And Raiden was just a social experiment, not a hardened clone of the greatest solider of the 21st century.

Just because you fail at your mission doesn't make you a worse character, just ... a worse soldier. And that's to e expected when you're literally going up against a version of the man who beat WWII killers.
