It's not actually particularly strong anymore in 3 because the estoc was nerfed and shield counters do exist, it's just really fucking boring to play against. Most of your wins will come from people that just don't have the patience to counter you, or otherwise forgot to carry a proper anti-shield option

I usually don't summon for DS3 because it's the most unfun thing I can do, not because I want a challenge, but because it will most likely not work and I will get stuck with a boss that has a huge healthpool and my phantom will be stuck on the other side of the fog wall unable to come in. Honestly the netcode is one thing I wish they'd fix. Weapon buffs and nerfs are great, but I would think that the netcode is something they would have high priority on fixing.

I really wish there was some proper way to finding out who the invader was other than having CE on at all the times. Seriously, why don't we get Steam Profile ID as an option to show character name like on consoles.

Had a dumb invader with Gotthard Memesword with max estus. He kept trading with me not realizing mace's superior poise trading capabilities, then just stood by fucking blue knight. I just went ahead threw firebombs then started boss fight. I wish I had some dung pies to throw at him.

Okay, someone help me make this work. I'm doing a build that's centered exclusively on using the door shields with GMS, and side miracles for maximum co-op.

The whole problem is that the attempt to diversify with a single sorcery and support miracles, along with minimal addition to Attunement, leaves it severely stretched out. I'm not even sure that Sacred Oath would be worth it (even for PvE), in which case I could simply strip the Faith and bump it into Attunement for more FP and slots, and maybe branch into Snap Freeze and possibly Pestilent Mercury. Not having to constantly have Darkmoon Ring equipped would also free up a ring slot for things like Skull Ring or Chloranthy +2.

Wait for announcements on the front page for sales. These happen very regularly, at least once per season (Easter sale, summer sale, Halloween sale, Christmas sale), with frequent publisher clearances and more. Best way is to add DaS1 to your wishlist and get the automatic notification via e-mail that it's on sale.

The game still gets occasional activity, but you need at least two mods installed for it to reach functionality. Duels don't seem to happen much, if at all, but you may get the occasional invader.

This is the only bad thing about this patch. Heavy armors are heavy enough, they just needed a little defense buff.

Patch notes:

Farron was lots of fun because its L1 was the closest thing to a decent attack any ultra had.
You can bet 100% it will be the only UGS to not get a buff this patch though, so RIP for it.

FUGS was hard to use because of its excessive stamina costs but now with the reduction to that it will probably be pretty awesome. BKGS might be crazy if it gets faster and the special combo doesn't get nerfed.
Astora is fun for the extremely low weight and having charge for a WA. Zwei has a unique 2HR2 that's a really good rollcatch. Both of these have the lowest stamina costs in-class so with the reduction to stamina costs they'll probably become really usable.


To be honest, every UGS has small things that make it different from the others and every single one except FUGS is a quality weapon so you can grab them all and use them on the same build.

In the previous DLC patch, improved motion meant that the animation itself was slightly adjusted to be better in some way. For example, maces got faster --the animation was sped up-- but also covered more distance with each swing and got that huge 3rd attack lunge. Greatswords also got an 'improved attack motion' which ended up just meaning their attacks got faster.

I assume that these animation changes aren't as easy as just slapping a speed modifier onto it, so they have to do some fiddling with the way the animation plays out to make it look natural and not like a slow attack on fast-forward.

When you want to try new builds do you just create new game and beat the whole thing everytime, or do you use some sort of cheat engines?

I did a full faith build once, but it was my least favourite from all I've tried. I had trouble finding a cool weapon too, I went with Wolnir's first, but it scaled terribly with faith alone, and so does pretty much every weapon. It was before AoA so I never tried the whip from father Ariandel.
I never did try it, but I think the best would be to do like 30 or 40 faith and 40 dex or some dex and str. That way you'd only use faith for buffs, which seem actually good.

I gradually filled up all 10 of my character slots with a couple various builds from different starting classes
When I want to try a new build, I typically just take whichever of those 10 I use or like the least and respec, then dick around a bit on a new NG cycle or the arena until I lose interest.

I have a pyromancer that's gone through so many stages of "can magic be good now pls" it's not even funny. It started as a pyro/str build to use demon weapons, then abandoned them because they suck, then went through NG+ with the dark hand and dark miracles only (dead again was fun) but got dull around endgame because it was worthless for pvp, then turned it into a proper faith build but that sucked because there's so few weapon choices and this was before stake got buffed to only take 1 slot, then it was an MLGS-using sorcerer but that got boring fast because the MLGS is only one weapon, then it became a hypermode Soul Stream-sniping glass cannon which was tonnes of fun until Soul Stream got its ranged nerfed, then it became a hybrid omnimage using the Archdeacon greatstaff with 60fth but that sucked because you don't get enough attunement to have fun with every casting school and juggling 3-4 casting tools was tedious, then it became a havels/MLGS poisebuild with AoA's poise buff, and now it's a dex/int build with some faith on the side that uses Friede's scythe along with the Witch's Locks and all of the buffable pure dex and hybrid int weapons I can find. I think I'm going to keep it as it is for a bit now since it'll be able to use both the new dagger and the new pyro curved sword from the DLC.

The Rose of Ariandel is actually not good at all for straight up combat, I don't think. If I'm not mistaken it does just roughly as much damage as a raw morningstar, which was what I used throughout the game, despite it not being buffable. I am told its draw is primarily the miracle-buffing weapon art.

That said, the weapon was more so I would have an easier time traversing the levels though, because for bosses it was purely lightning stake and Sunlight Spear to the spine all day every day, and it was wonderful. Definitely my favorite implementation of Faith across all three games.

The new curved sword looks a lot like the curved sword form of SoC
Not the same, mind you, it's obviously not a coiled sword, but the shape and fire texture give it some resemblance that would be good for cosplay
Similarly, the Ringed Knight Sword has the fire WA that resembles SoC's 2nd phase combo

With the Firelink GS, that covers 3 out of SoC's 5 forms for cosplay purposes. Do you think the DLC will also include an indistinct, fiery spear/halberd and a smouldering, cross-headed staff?

Yeah the rose is kinda shit.
Its AR is comparable to that of a whip, but it's a hybrid str/fth weapon so it needs a big stat investment to even get that much damage.

It has really good base spell buff but mediocre scaling so its only really outstanding relatively at low fth and lacks the HA casting of a talisman.

The WA is like a 35% buff to your miracle damage, which is amazing, but it's a body buff and lasts a very long time so you can apply it and then just switch to a better casting tool.

Yeah the video showcased some bugs with Gundyr's ai. Apparently his ability to attack isn't tied to stamina like other bosses, but his AI is. It stops cycling moves when his stamina dries, which causes him to repeat the same one over and over.

Attempt #2. Tried stripping the Faith and shunting it to other areas, if the only spell that the Faith is going to be used for is Sacred Oath then may as well use the WA one instead. The additional Dex and Vit also gives slightly better weapon coverage in case I want to use something that isn't the door shields, in which case it just becomes a basic Str build.

If this character is going to be built for co-op, then the attuned spells will be used to that end. I'm thinking Skull + GMS for aggro-ing bosses and/or mobs for the host, with Blessed Weapon for self-sustain and in case I want to go on the offense with the doors (apparently they do decent damage?). Snap Freeze is there to de-buff bosses and help the host deal better damage, and I may add Poison/Toxic Mist and a whip for the stamina cheese strat?

I'm using a build now with 40 dex and 52 faith, it's workable if you just use sharp weapons and buff them, the damage is awesome. but as far as other miracles go there really isn't much utility. all the offensive miracles suck for pvp. you pretty much just have tears of denial and your blade buffs. I've been pvping all day with sharp gottards twinswords buffed and an offhand lightning AGS. There's still several decent weapons I have yet to give a solid shot in pvp too.

one thing faith does well is absolutely rape PvE though. dorhys gnawing stake and spears all wreck bosses.

You can time it to go off as an enemy gets up from a crit and combo it with a black flame/combustion if close or CBV if away. But other than that I haven't found much use. Lower damage than cbv, much shorter range (can't even hit from max lock on distance) and about as slow, covers much smaller area and doesn't travel, meaning you'll only ever hit immobile targets. The only reason you should use it is if you can't spare the attunement or don't have cbv/gcfo available

Same total damage (~1000) but now dealt faster.

Previously, poison took too long to deal damage, so players could effectively ignore it and not worry about it influencing the outcome of a fight. It also only barely ticked for more damage per second than the average player regens with just standard equipment, meaning most of its damage was effectively negated. Faster damage means regen has less of a mitigating influence and the damage will apply fast enough to affect a fight.

I feel like they are the "other" estus, they seem to serve a different purpose to estus, though they do the same thing, they do it in a different manner. The life gem and its counterparts (bigger versions of the gem) heal a larger amount of hp and its a continuous healing, which makes fighting multiple enemies much bearable, since hits don't concern you, because you are healing while losing hp... it balances out.

What I don't really like is how that mechanic doesn't really seem to fit dark souls, I like it, but if feels out of place.
