For fun which do you prefer, having multiple enemy aces/squadrons throughout a game that all get a little bit of characterization and development or having one enemy ace/squadron throughout the game that is heavily characterized and developed?
TL; DR: diversity vs focus
Pic related is my answer
>>171628490
>yfw this is bullying
>yfw you've been successfully baited into bullying warcrimes
>>171632475
Does Pixy count? Because I liked how he get's all the characterisation before he even becomes an enemy. The other ace squadrons in Zero are good as well.
Anything's better than 5 with barely any characterisation of anyone.
>>171632475
Not sure desu. While Beast Squadron from Assault Horizon Legacy is one of my favorite squadrons just from Sergei's personality and their tactics, I really liked how Voycheck of Strigon Squadron learned more about Emmeria as Estovakia raided it and ESPECIALLY those bios about the individual Strigon members you can only get if you kill them. Makes you feel kinda bad about it
>>171632475
zero did the best job of it, I think
>>171633204
I would throw Zero (Pixy included) under the diversity category. None of the aces in Zero have a wide character to them. They usually have one theme (knighthood, pride, guidance, love, anti-war, etc.) that defines them and that's it. Don't get me wrong, Zero does a diverse cast extremely well as each theme is very well developed. To take Pixy as an example, all you really have to go on with him is his relationship to Cipher and his developing anti-war sentiment.
Compare that to Yellow 13 in 4, where we follow his relationship with Mobius, Yellow 04, the narrator, the girl, his view of the war, etc.
Both can work great when done right and imho, 4 and 0 show the best of both extremes.
>>171633291
Yeah, it's stories like that that make me lean towards following a single ace/squadron over many.
>>171633463
Of course it did. Yellow Squadron is my favorite enemy in the games, but Zero is still best game.
>tfw you realize you've been chasing your youth by playing the Ace Combat games and listening to music from when you were 10

you guys ever think how weird it is that everything seems to just be going in cycles? Lots and lots of parallel cycles.
>>171637119
I'm just thinking about how people born in the years that my favorite games were released are now old enough to drive.
Its not a very good feeling.
>>171637237
yeah, no fucking joke. Not that long from now we'll be passing the torch to the next generation of shitposters, who'll have their own favorite games, their own opinions and interpretations.

>>171637509

I say get the physical copy, particurlaly Assault Horizon Legacy+ if you can find it. Ace Combat on the go is pretty great and I've clocked tons of hours into it. Survival and Extra missions are quite challenging post-game content as well

>>171640062
>word squares are literally as old as Western civilization
There's some sort of weird poetry in how things change and yet stay the same.
Of course the day-to-day happenings change, and the specifics of the problems change, yet everyone going back thousands of years has had the same worries - what happens when I die, how do I make the most of my time here, why was I put here?
It's comforting, in a sense. Everyone is asking and answering the same questions. As different as everyone might be, we're all human.
>captcha is Mirador memorial
You lads ever listen to Sungrazer? It was a Dutch stoner rock band. They've got this song, Mirador, that I always really liked. Sometime last year, I was looking them up again and I found out that their vocalist and guitarist committed suicide. It's colored the song in a different light ever since. Now the ending has a finality that I can't really explain. It feels to me almost like a goodbye.

Rest in peace, Rutger. I hope you finally found what you were looking for.

I'm going to hit on a girl soon during a class. She'll be flying the Night Raven, so damn gorgeous. She's also surrounded by several swarming N.TGTs, probably other male mercenaries tasked to shoot her down. Fortunately, no one really dares to attack, so it's all up to me now.
It's just that I'm not really sure about my strategy. I could do an heads-on attack, but in case of a failure, her primary weapon could completely disintegrate my poor "Game". I mean I've already destroyed some of the Aeon generators with my smooth talk, but she's still so damn powerful. So fucking hard to even get a lock-on due to her incredible mobility. Might still keep my altitude low for just a little more, but I feel like I'll be wasting too much fuel. Should have picked long range missiles as opposed to short ones...
>>171642808
It is all in picking your fights. Planning your attacks.
If she had her nose in a book or had this "I'm here to look at books don't bother me" aura about her then...well..FAIL.
If a girl is sitting alone, by herself and looking out the window and thinking to herself "...oh god another year alone." Then you should come up and say something that doesn't sound like a come on. Like "Hey what's on your mind" or something. Just DON'T SOUND CREEPY. PICK YOUR TARGETS. It is like this. Pretend that you are a Marine Force Recon unit and you are cut off from supply. You are on your own and you have to have your wits about. Are you going to rush in on a heavily fortified well defended bunker? NO! That's STUPID! HOWEVER, if it was a lightly defended and isolated relay post or it was a bunch of lonely, scared and inexperienced conscript soldiers then BY ALL MEANS GO FOR IT!
Why is this so hard to understand? Women are not some unattainable thing. They are not goddesses, princesses, or queens. They are closet whores and normal people with breasts. They want what you want. Security, companionship, and the benefits of income. Only they expect YOU to provide it.
What you might want to do is hire a mercenary. You know a guy who can tag the ass and can talk you up for a girl. Just remember, he handles TACTICS. REAR END SUPPORT...this is YOUR FIGHT you gotta DO IT.

Oh man, I fucking LOVED how they did Voychek in AC6. How he starts out drinking the koolaid and believing Emmeria is a poor shithole, then by the middle of the war he's not quite convinced, then by the time him and the kids are freed from the catacombs and he's learned about the Estovakians' final plans, he's like "Nah, I don't think so," and decides to help you. I can't tell you how much I love it when a character starts out as a villain, then sees the error of his ways and jumps ship, and becomes instrumental in ending the war. I FUCKING LOVE THAT SHIT.

This song.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hEb0ZWVknCI
When I first listened to it it gave me a vibe of 'lovers reeunited', and I listened to it all the time. But it was the first song I heard after a buddy of mine died, and it became sort of a 'goodbye' song, if that makes sense, and now I can't listen to it. It always takes me back to a time when everything in my life was completely different, and not necessarily for the better, and ultimately reminds me of my friend.
I've listened to snippets of it over time, but I'd say it's probably been close to 3 years since I sat down and listened to it all the way through.

>>171677217
Okay, fine. Freedom units as represented by current-day demographics.
>>171677217
The US doesn't use Imperial, it uses US Customary.
The Imperial system was defined until 1824, well after american independence.
>>171680017
wasn't*
Does the metric system exist in Strangereal?
>>171680167
It might, but I always assumed everyone used miles, feet, etc.
Pic related
>>171680553
That is because aviation uses NM and feet because freedom made it hard for everyone after WW2 except gliders, who continue to use the metric system.
That said it has turned into a combination of metric and imperial units.
>>171680960
A combination which has killed a lot of people.
>>171681065
I only recall the liters vs lbs/kgs one, but that was Gimli with no deaths.
Otherwise its not hard to adapt to using feet over meters or knots over kph/mph. It's not like that matters. Unless you switch from one to the other but outside gliders and historic craft I know no planes that have non standard units for the instruments.
But at this stage it is too late to go back and change the whole thing anyhow.
>>171681880
You shouldn't measure fuel as volume anyways.
Did this whole discussion start from that guy asking R.P.G. about patch size?
>>171684718
Well the tanker has it in liters, the pilots use mass. But yeah, it's not optimal.
The conversion wouldn't be a massive issue, if some people didn't use lbs while other use kilos.
But I can't speak for modern conditions, with EFBs and electronic loadsheets and everything I imagine it's changed a bit.

>>171695631
I did shoot him down from long range before the tunnel. With a xaam before he was even able to do anything. My wingmen still creamed themselves over how good i was. Yeah guys, only the most incredible pilot could have pulled that off. >_>
I only played 4, 5 and 0 so far but I really want to play 7 when it comes out
Do I need to play the first 3 to understand the timeline better?
>>171701553
Good job completing the Holy Trinity.
And to answer your question, no. 3 is self contained and in a different timeline. 1 doesn't even have a plot. 2 doesn't really add much to the story either, but it's fun
Really, you can start with any game
Why do we have a new namefag?
Is it because they bring something special to the table that distinguishes them from anon, or just because?
>>171701553
no, but play 6 because it is also good
>>171691969
Why couldn't the USSR fall until after the prototypes of their various projects were completed? It wasn't like they would ever enter mass production. So much wasted potential. At least 47-chan got a proper demonstrator.
>>171701553
Not really, although 2 is pretty RADICAL
I'd recommend playing 6 and X though, as they're the closest in series timeline to 7
Some anon was talking about writing an ace combat story and had lots of squadron pictures and stuff.

>I'm the motherfucking Demon of the Round Table
Not to sound like I'm fishing for a circle jerk, but am I the only on that would like 7 to avoid this idea? It was fun being viewed as a god over the course of multiple games, but I am starting to get tired of it. I don't imagine there will ever be an AC game where you're just an average pilot, but just being another ace could work just as equally well. I just don't want another game of nonstop messages from wingmen, allies, enemies, civilians, lost animals, etc. constantly jerking me off as if I crippling self-esteem issues and their afraid I'm going to eject the moment I'm not getting a shout out from someone.
The occasional praise is cool. It's just gotten too heavy imho.
Is there a common Ace Combat melody in the soundtrack? It's more prevalent in AC6 and AH, but I've noticed it in AC5 as well
>>171722874
It's in AC4, 5, 6, 0, and X. Can't remember if X2 has it.
Not sure if AHL has it
>>171721865
ac6, then?
>>171724205
Never got to play AC6 to be honest. I played 04 and 5, but my PS2 broke down and I never replaced it as I was already moving to being PC only by that time. I've played most of the series through emulators. I've watched Ace Combat Fan's playthrough of AC6 so I'm familiar with some of the basics of the story, but I forgot that Talisman doesn't get jerked off like past protags. So yeah, something like AC6 would be nice to see again.

Only real problem was probably the plot.
Real world and an enemy squadron one could care less were pretty bad.
Outside the nuke transport one, the missions wer quite good, though I have mixed feelings toward the "Boss rush mode" the game basically gets in halfway trough.

Do you have a plane with SASM? The AoE on those ignores Sulejmani's Starfox BS.
Alternatively...
>When he starts talking for a long time, stop attacking, he is invincible. For some asinine reason, they didn't turn off his TGT status when he's plot armored, like they did with Pixy.
>Use guns when he starts rolling rolling rolling.
>QAAMs won't help against him, so just pack one of the multi-target SP weapons for the first phase of the mission.
>>171740621
SASM has a pretty bad homing. TLS can save you more time
*Blocks your path
>>171738165
I liked the Boss Rush. It didnt take itself as seriously as AH tried to ans that made it work despite not being Strangereal. Plot felt like reading the Planes and Mercs stuff again.
The only thing that irks me a bit is that the plane models are even larger than usual and feel really sluggish.
Also Varcolac was just a bunch of asshats and their superplane was shit.
>>171721865
Story and gameplay integration. They view you as a God because for all intents and purposes of the story, you are. You get more bills per sortie than the rest of the military combined and the game recognizes that if this is played off as no big thing and everyone treats you as just another grunt on the battle field, it would feel even more weird. You'd end up with a unintentionally hilarious and immersion breaking situation like Ramierez from modern warfare 2 where the protag does anything and everything of importance and nonimportance in every mission and "Ramierez, DO EVERYTHING" but you'll still be a private by the end of the campaign even though by all rights you should have been given multiple promotions and a medal of honor at the very least by the time it's all over.
VGL 8 soon.
Does it still interest /aceg/?

>Emulation
So AC04 can be emulated now? That's good news.
>>171721865
I feel AC4 actually did this really well. Most of the combat chatter isn't about you, it's about the mission... and you only get attention from a few particularly noteworthy feats or stunts, likeTaking on Stonehenge nearly singlehandedly or tagging a Yellow in Comona.By the time you have ground troops pointing you out as you fly overhead and the familiar voices of particular fellow pilots hailing you as a leader and hero, you really feel like it means something and people weren't just blowing praise up your ass the entire time for no reason,NAGASE AND GRIMM.
>>171744347
Except 5 had your allies going on about "the four wings of sand island" and "the demons of razgriz" when your wingman AI was so bad that you singlehandedly killed 99% of all targets and the other guys were lucky to make Ace over the course of the game.
>>171749509
There are still a lot of graphical issues but it's playable.
>>171750323
My wingmen almost got as many kills as i did during 8492. It was really surprising too. I had them covering while I was too busy dodging missiles and all of a sudden the mission ended and every enemy was dead. Funny because the whole time they were telling me we should run and saying I was insane for trying to take them all on.
>>171750323
Wingmen so in general seems to be fine. From what I can tell, the only reason they get so few kills is because they are hard programmed to not shoot more than 1 missile at a time even though every plane can take 2 and some like tornadoes can take 3.
>>171753225
>Since the EF-111 became operational in 1981, they were involved in every conflict America's had, from Eldorado Canyon in Libya to Desert Storm. In Desert Storm an EF-111 was credited with one of the first kills of the conflict as a maneuvering Raven caused a pursuing Iraqi Mirage to crash into the ground.
Noice

As I recall, the f-111 was the f-35 of its time. A multirole that was suppose to have navy, air force and marine variants but was shit at all of them. Too heavy for navy, worse performance than f16 and 15s for the air force.

The mission design is just boring. Half of them are get high score in x minutes, then keep flying around killing any left over targets until time runs out.
>>171771475
I hated those missions. Even worse are the ones that tell you to get a score then keeping fighting until time runs out. So you keep flying and killing targets after your quota, then when time runs out SURPRISE MOTHERUCKER! There's a part 2 and you're out of missiles because you used them all.

>>171817823

>>171817983
What's wrong with transforming robots
>>171818065
By itself I have no issue with the concept. It just saddens me how there is almost no media content (anime, live action, whatever) about air combat. If there was plenty of both I wouldn't even mention transforming robots, but sadly it's the only genre in anime that reliably provides dogfights to watch even if the aircraft are only aircraft half the time.
>>171817983
Watch Macross Plus
>>171818445
I've been meaning to go back and watch the older stuff in the series. I've only watched Frontier and some of Delta, which I ended up dropping. Any particular reason for recommending Plus? What the fuck Bryan Cranston is in the English dub. I might actually watch it just to see this.
>>171818675
Plus is basically the ATF program except with VF's.
>>171818675
Big fan of the series, buckle in for autism.
Frontier imo was a piece of shit, Delta was one of the best in years but still not as great.
I recommended Plus as it's a mature story, fantastic visuals, music by Yoko Kanno and pure dogfights. It's a e s t h e t i c. The dogfighting is just astounding, watch Plus and you'll love it I'm sure.
SDF, the first series is also great but suffers from some visual problems, however if you can get past that it's definitely worth watching. SDF doesn't have much in the way of pure dogfights if that's what you're looking for though.
>>171818851
Frontier is basically SDF but with a cooler VF though
>>171818941
Only watched half of Frontier, felt like cliched high school harem garbage
Only enjoyment I got out of Frontier was the callback to SDFs opening
>>171818785
Well you have my attention.
>>171818851
I thought Frontier was pretty good outside the love triangle shit, but I'm new to the series so I can't comment on how it compares to the older shows. The love triangle theme is partly why I dropped Delta as I thought it was just gonna break down into that idea again and I'm not a fan of that kind of romance. It distracts from the A-story too much for what usually amounts to a very underwhelming romantic payoff. I'll give Plus a shot though if only cause I need to hear Cranston in an anime at least once in my life.
>>171819032
There's only like one or two highschool centric episodes in the show.
Give it another go, the second half is pretty cool.
At least watch the movies for the gorgeous dogfights, they're top-tier.
>>171819104

What is this? All the autistic techporn of VFs that get posted here every now and then?

>>171819085
I'll give you a quick rundown.
The plot centers around a young hotshot pilot who's basically Maverick who's chosen to fly one of two competing VF's in the Supernova AVF competition program for the next main fighter in the UN Forces. He meets the competing pilot who's basically flying a YF-23 on steroids and it turns out he's got some bad blood with him. Also there's a vocaloid before William Gibson ever wrote Aidoru.
>>171819149
Yeah.
I have to say I was alright with the first part of the transformation in what little Macross I've seen. The one where the cockpit remains as is and the legs and arms just fold out.
But going from that to robot with a little head still kinda turns me away designwise.
>>171819439
As a Macross fan, I agree.
Gerwalk is about as far as I can go.
In universe battroid was meant for infiltrating Zentradi spaceships but considering how the Zent threat isn't really pressing anymore, there's not a whole lot of reason for it to exist.
It warms my heart to see actual discussion about Macross instead of WHO IS BEST GIRL XD
so is ac6 worth getting? I jumped from ps2 to pc and never got a chance to play it.
canards are memes
>>171823727
It's fun. Few planes and missions but they are longer at least. Bit repetitive in nature in that you'll usually have two or three goals in different ground or air battles that happen at the same time IIRC.
>>171824685
They improved the Mirage III.
Getting close to beating AC5. Is it generally considered the weakest of the ps2 games? Cause the plot is extremely weak compared to 4 and the plane and subweapon unlocking system are a fucking warcrime. I'm getting hyped for zero though I've heard it's the best of the trilogy.
>>171825312
I don't know, I like the animu plot and missions. Most here don't IIRC. The unlocking system is a bit of a mess though.
Zero is top tier for the squadron fights alone, but feels somewhat shorter because of the three routes.
4 has the most grounded story and Yellows but I don't remember any missions from it except the boss fights.
Personally I like Zero and 5 a bit more than 4 but that is about it.
Scanning finished, now time for spaceplane robots.
http://www.mediafire.com/file/7yx9a471redr8r8/VF-31_Masterfile.zip
>>171825312
You can tell Zero is the best game because it has the most memes. It's the most scientific way of measuring the quality of a game.
>>171827208
I just beat the giant fleet mission and I'll admit it seems like they're ending strong. But the the two avoid the radar bubble missions the find nagase mission and the fact that the game constantly disallows you to bomb ground targets because of mission scripting is inexcusable. I don't even know how you don't remember the missions in AC4 though senpai the D day mission, liberating the city while the radio announcer is covering it from the ground, the massive clusterfuck dogfight around the satellite launch. I think you need a replay.>>171827543 That explains why dynasty warrior is quantifiably the best game series.

>>171829202

>>171818065
They're transforming planes anon. The robot mode is designed around the plane mode, not the other way around like in other shows.
>>171825312
Maybe because I played the series backwards, 6, zero, 5 then 4 but I though 4 was the weakest. I didn't care about yellow 13 at all. He seemed like some smug fuck who thought he would be liked in a town that his country invaded and occupied. Its like wtf did you expect!? As mentioned above, most of the missionserere pretty forgettable, get a high score before time runs out affairs.
5 was actually my favorite. It was the longest, and the animu story gets kind of endearing if you just let yourself go. I also liked my wingmen, they were even useful sometime.
>>171834457
I just beat it and they pulled off the end pretty good but the plot was just asking me to suspend way to much disbelief to take it seriously at all
>>171834457
I never understood people's hard on for yellow 13.
>>171835242
I liked the little conversation you have with your wingmen in the final mission after shooting down ofnir and grabacr and before solg comes down. With that music playing in the background, it really felt like it was the end of something special. Especially with how long the campaign was. Wish SOLG was a little tougher though. Unsung war starts playing in the background and you barely get 1 minute into it before you shoot down the solg.
>>171835242
I just liked that the protag had a more personal stake and involvement in the story beyond his performance in the missions and you could do a little role-playing when you get asked questions. Mobiues was just following orders and taking missions and cipher was a merc in it for the money.
>>171837349
To me that conversation just felt like sentimentality for the sake of it. Grimm saying it was his birthday, Snow going on about the the sunrise or whatever, and I don't even remember what Nagase said. The whole thing just felt forced to me.
>>171834457
>5 was actually my favorite.
5's characters just don't grab me.
6 for gameplay
0 for charactersexcept for PJand story
>>171840153
>6 for the game play
Agreed. No matter how cheesy the story is, the gameplay keeps me coming back every time.
>>171839384
The whole game ran on idealism and sentimentality though. This was just the cap on top. Snow even says "we're almost done here" so it was about the right time to get sentimental. Its the end of the game after all.
>>171840696
I never worried about running out of missiles 6. Not only did you get always get a high enough count to kill everything in any mission, your gun was absurdly overpowered. Each bullet did as much damage as a missile. Going from that to the ps2 games where you barely get enough just for your mission critical targets if you werent flying the better planes, and equiped with a pea shooter was a bit distracting.
>>171840970
Another thing I loved about 6 was that several missions had an airbase you could land at once you secured it. I thought that was really cool.
Also Heavy Command Cruiser is one of the best missions in the entire series. 5 flying fortresses, AND an ace squadron battle, AND an excellent track to boot. Fucking fantastic.
>>171840715
Yeah, I suppose. I just get sick of that sort of fluff real fast.
>USAF wants to replace F-15Cs with F-16s
4 whut purpose
>>171842225
Because they have no idea what they're doing apparently.
Replacing F-15s (presumably all but the E model) with F-16s will lead to a weird performance gap even as F-35s come online.
>>171842225
>no more Eagle
Heresy
>>171834457
I liked Yellow 13 because, at least in my view, his story was of an ace that had a naive view of war and you're watching him slowly realize that war isn't an honorable duel between warriors. Watching his downfall and the downfall of his squadron is, imho, one of the most engaging stories in the Ace Combat series. I'll admit that Zero executes the idea a bit better, but you don't get the same level of focus as with Yellow 13.
5 pissed me off. I hated all the wingmen. I know actual soldiers can be anti-war while fighting, but 5 is an awful example of this. By the hands of your wingmen and by association with you, they are guilty of killing hundreds, if not thousands of lives. Depending on player action many of those lives were taken on the side during missions and were not actually mission critical. I know I should consider story and gameplay separation, but it still left a bitter taste in my mouth. 5 is an immature version of a kind of story that was already well executed in the series. Zero brings it, but that just makes it worse.
>>171842536
>dedicated A2A planes replaced with half-assed mudroles
Brilliant!
*blocks your path*
>>171842978
All of this can be traced back to the decision to halt F-22 production.
The air force was structured around a high-low concept of high cost, high performance aircraft supported by a multitude of lower cost, lower performance aircraft. F-15 was High, F-16 was low.
The F-22 was supposed to be the new High component, but they never built enough. Now we have a weird high-med-low dynamic with the F-35, and we look to be transitioning to an all med fleet.
>>171842225
It's cheaper I assume. It's not like we're in desperate need of a high performance fighter at the moment. The F-16 is sufficient for the USAF's purposes prior to replacement by the F-35.
>>171842536
Pretty sure the guys at the pentagon know what they are doing. While you are correct that it will lead to a performance gap, that gap won't cost anyone a war and will save money.
>>171842978
Those mudroles have done far more in their service than the F-15. In the articles I read about this mention that the F-15E isn't even targeted to get cut. A2G is the MvP of the USAF in today's conflicts.

>>171894565
They're always around.
Earlier Superplanes had lasers, railguns and powerful missiles like the burst missiles and the "16 missiles at once"-system. Do you think the superplane in 7 will have a new weapon or a reskin of an old one? I'm hoping for something like the ability to call in AI drones that assist you for a while, since that would make sense with the theme of the game. I'm also thinking that it could be possible that the laser pods and the railguns we've seen in the trailer belongs to the new superplane. There has been statements that all weapon systems can be used on any plane, so it doesn't feel like a wild guess imo.
Thoughts on this?
>>171898485
I've been saying it for months and I'll say it again:F U N N E L S
And my non-meme thoughts on the matter are for some reason I get the feeling the endgame super SP weapon will be a satellite laser, like the OSL.
>>171898485
My only "out there" wish for AC7 that isn't just good gameplay, story, etc. is to play as an AI, even if only for a mission or two for story purposes. It's the one part of the AC storyline that I find interesting that hasn't been built on in the series much besides the one game where it shows up.
To focus more on your question, there will probably be returning superweapons that are just updated textures and effects. Though, isn't there always at least one new superweapon in each main game for you to play with at least? So I think it's a reasonable expectation for there to be a new weapon for everyone to try out. I doubt it would be a drone call-in, sounds too conventional. It might be a general power like in AC6's calling in an ally strike. I just hope it isn't a missile that makes more missiles.Maybe a laser that shoots more lasers?
>>171899528

Bartlett's, too. She sounds *really* jealous on the radio when introducing herself to Bartlett's girlfriend.
>>171999715
I've always used the first-person cockpit view. The different cockpits make the planes feel more different, and for some reason, your plane's gun sounds better when you have the cockpit on. With the cockpit off, every plane's gun uses the same generic growl sound.
However, I've been playing Vector Thrust since I don't have access to my PS2 right now, and I've developed an appreciation for third-person. I think I'll try it in the AC games when I can get back to them.
>>172001494
>I love the F-22 to death, she's a pure beauty, but I can't stand her weird rounded HUD thingy design, I immediately switch to 3rd to stare at dat ass instead.
What always annoyed me about the F-22 was the delay on firing its weapons. Your missiles and guns don't fire at the same moment you press the button. You have to wait for the compartment to open up first. That can really fuck up my timing.
>>172006205
>What always annoyed me about the F-22 was the delay on firing its weapons. Your missiles and guns don't fire at the same moment you press the button. You have to wait for the compartment to open up first. That can really fuck up my timing.
I've never been bothered by that.
But then again, only this week replaying 04 I have noticed the frequent missile bay opening animation.
>>172006721
It's less of a problem for missiles (though still annoying), but gun kills often rely on split-second timing.
>>172007120
the bays open when you get a lock with missiles.
>>172007337
Could've fooled me. It's been a while, but I distinctly remember a noticeable delay between pressing the button and the missiles launching.
>>171983450
I prolly won't be able to get a proper PC till the launch, so PS4 for me. Shame there won't be any crossplatform multi.
>>172007561
If we're talking about Infinity, using SPW open missile bay instantly as soon as you select them, but standard ones will suffer from a lag. That's actually why I dropped using raptor after lv 8. Lag was unbearable for me.
>>171999715
Always either first person or cockpit. I play a lot of sims, and find the way the plane turns faster than the camera in 3p very disorienting. This is also the case for games like Need for Speed.
>>171991512
That pic is dead on about Vector Thrust's obsession with the F-104. There are about 30 F-104 variants and still no F-18.
It's such a frustrating game. Frustrating in the sense that you can see so much potential going unfulfilled. It plays just like AC, it's very open to modding, and it comes with a mission/campaign builder, plus it's on PC, so I can use an actual joystick with it. If only the dev would come back to release a full-length campaign and maybe do some optimization and bug-fixing...

Ubi is just shit at optimization.
Even I can't run those two games at max settings without getting hitches and frame drops.

You'd probably get more out of a proper gaming rig in the long run, honestly. The way things are going, console exclusivity is increasingly looking like it'll go the way of the dinosaurs

On one hand it does, on the other Nintendo will never not cling to it.

I've always thought that little maneuver Gelb did in their intro looked extremely unsafe, no matter how good the pilots are. They missed crashing into each other by about ten feet.

maybe you *should* use your name just so the autist namedropping you doesn't have a leg to stand on
>>172084409
maybe they were stunt pilots during peacetime
>>172085368
Doesn't explain why they'd take a risk like that in a combat situation, especially when their planes haven't been getting the proper maintenance for several weeks at least.
>>172086510
There is only one ultimate rule in Ace CombatTHE RULE OF COOL
>>172086510
maybe they didn't intend on it being that close of a pass, but the lack of maintenance turned it into a near-fatal accident
>>172086510
An in universe explanation might just be pride. I forgot what the interview with Gelb-2 is like, but Belkan pilots in general are just that arrogant. Taking the time to do a fancy formation before fighting a pair of fighters that just destroyed all of your allies in the area is the Belkan Ace thing to do. You probably have to do something equally showy and stupid just to get your wings if not to get your recruitment papers signed.
>>172087741
Gelb 2 didn't seem very arrogant to me. In fact, he seemed pretty mild-mannered. You're probably thinking of Indigo 1.
>>172088604
Maybe Gelb 1 got him doing it? Maybe he was more showy and confident back then? I'm just offering it as a possible in universe explanation that doesn't require a meta argument of rule of cool. Doesn't really matter overall, but if someone wants a reason for why they would waste fuel doing a pointless maneuver, this is one of them.

Final Interview
‘A Brother In Arms’
The Usea continent: Delarus
25 Nov, 2005
Galm 2
Larry ‘Pixy’ Foulke
Ustio Air Force / 6th Air Division / 66th Air Force Unit
Larry Foulke, also known as ‘Solo Wing Pixy’.
That’s right. This man was his buddy.
And his enemy.
“I should have died that day. But I didn't. I dragged my wounded body and reached ground zero of the nuclear detonations. A barren, empty land.”
“I felt an unbearable sadness when I witnessed that landscape. There were still people living there. They were the ones that saved me.”
“It may be true that the world has no need of borders. But would getting rid of them really change anything? The world won't change for the better unless we trust people. Trust is vital in a peaceful world. But that will never happen.”
“I'm still on the battlefield. Right now I'm near a border. I want to see for myself what borders really mean and what their volition really is. I may not find what I'm looking for, but I still want to try.
Anyway, that's what I've come to believe, and I think that's enough.”
“Will he see this video? If you do meet him, give him a message for me:
'Yo buddy. Still alive? And thanks, friend. See you again.’”
The Demon Lord of the Round Table.
A warrior who soared through the Belkan War, inspiring both fear and admiration.
His presence filled the sky for but a few short months before he disappeared.
Apart from that, nothing is known about him.
I was never able to find out what kind of a person he really was.
But whenever they talked about him, they always had a slight smile on their faces.
That, perhaps, may be my answer.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zYVQnU8Kpvo
