Ace Combat: Infinity depresses me

it has the most planes in the series, with the most customization and has the old planes re-modeled. It also has all the superweapon battles included

But then they just placed a fuel system and it all went to waste.

I doubt it. AC7 is the first game in the series for the XB1/PS4 generation. Take a look at AC6. It has very small list of flyable jets and it is also the first game in the generation of the console it's released on.

I don't mind the dev having an obvious favorite plane, but I do find it odd that there still isn't a single F-18 in the game. Just about every plane you can imagine is there, but no F-18.

I also wish he'd get around to making a full campaign already.

Sorry, fellas. Looks like there are only 10 playable jets in AC7.
>>
>>172203775
That can't be a full list. I'm pretty sure even the PS1 games had more planes than that.
>>
>>172204091
Looked because I got curious too.

Air Combat had 16, AC2 had 24, and AC3 had 23. AC04 also had 22 planes, so my personal thoughts are that the "small list because new gen" theory is bullshit.

We'll probably get a more complete list come E3.
>>
>>172204091
That's every plane that's had screentime in a trailer.
>>
>>172204985
Yeah I think the list in
>>172203775
is just what has been confirmed thus far through interviews and/or trailers. It doesn't even have the F-2 listed and we all know that one is basically 100% confirmed.
>>
Man, the one thing I do want them to carry over from ACAH is the level of detail in all the planes - down to using the proper alarm voices in the planes. That was pretty neat.

"I am prone to random acts of vicious kindness" - thunderceptor 2017

15 years ago, there was a war.

Well, war’s broken out here plenty of times before.
They’ve tried to invade the southlands through the northern valley time and time again.
Luck was never on their side, though, and their victories didn’t last long.
They didn’t realize that times had changed.

Facing one defeat after another, losing territory and watching their nation dwindle, they built up their industrial strength to unprecedented heights and used it to wage one final battle against the world.

That was 15 years ago…

They fought ferociously, but were utterly defeated.

The Belkans then committed the unthinkable…
They used nuclear weapons on their own soil.
Seeing this tragedy unfold before their own eyes, the victorious countries vowed to throw down their weapons.

The world was once again at peace.
And thanks to them, it seemed like it would last forever.

On a distant island, far away from civilization, the protectors of peace take to the skies.

That's because Konami fired Kojima-san.
Had Kojima-san stayed with Konami much longer, we would've been given Chapter 3.
>>
>>172286459
Nah, Kojima is a fucking incompetent hack. He's an okay director who owes all his success to his team and constantly succumbs to feature creep.

Konami got tired of his shit. And you would too. If you were an employer, and had an employee who constantly kept failing deadlines, and going into public to complain he didn't want to do the work, spending more time concocting bullshit ruses than actually working on the product, you'd get rid of his ass too.

Death Stranding will get delayed at least twice, and will come out just as mediocre as V, if not even more so because with Konami getting fed up with his shit and booting him, at least we get to fantasize that ending would have been amazing. With Death Stranding we'll get the full disappointing thing.

The worst part of it all, is media and thirst faggot fans will swallow the dick and their own shit encrusted on it, raving it as the greatest work of a revolutionary director, while it'll basically be phantom pain lite, with half the gameplay and four times the cutscenes and post-cutscene credits.

Fucking screencap this shit nigga.

Konami seems like a really fucking shitty company to work with/for from what I've seen. Everyone's seen jim sterling's shit, and he talks about how trash they are all the time. Kojima may not be the god so many think he is, but to dismiss him as mediocre and instead shill for a crap company comes off as disingenuous.
>>
>>172286883
I can't feel an ounce of empathy for a company so transparently greedy and jewish as Konami.
Kojima might not be God, but he's made a ton of my favorite games, and most of his team from the MGS days are with him at his new studio, so I feel real confident that he'll at the very least make an interesting game.
>>
>>172286883
If Konami owned Ace Combat they'd cancel the series and turn it into a Pachinko machine. They seriously do not give a fuck about games, just money.

Well that's not technically true. The earliest F-16s did have a stick that didn't move. Instead, a set of transducers hooked up to the stick translated the pressure put on the stick when a pilot used it to maneuver into a set of commands that controlled the aircraft. Pilots found this setup extremely awkward due to the lack of a haptic response in the stick, so from F-16A Block 5 production onwards, the stick has been able to move 1/8 of an inch in every direction

The namefag knows who it is at all times. It knows this because it knows who it isn't. By subtracting who it is from who it isn't, or who it isn't from who it is (whichever is greater), it obtains a difference, or a shitpost. The general uses shitposts to generate corrective commands to drive the namefag from a position where it is to a position where it isn't.

Just to clarify things, the team can come back without a manager. I've seen a lot of people in other places comenting on how /aceg/ going back to VGL would be nice, and if there are fans interested, it can happen. With all the team resources ready from the last edition it should be very easy to cook something up for an export.
As for managing, I was sincere about how I felt regarding the last VGL run, but after keeping with /vr/ which in fact I came this close to resign too it wouldn't feel right to leave the general. In fact, I'm still dissatisfied about how things ended, and PES17 is way more reasonable to work with. Autopilot is always an option but if needed I can step back in if you people are fine with it and my terrible schedule issues.

But that's not about me, its the general. I'm just asking and sorry if being a little repetitive, promise I won't ask again because it's on /aceg/'s hands. If there is a legit demand for it, hell, let's do our best.

HELP
>>
Cape Landers 05’’ 32’ 17’’ N 152” 16’ 02” E
1109 hrs. Sep. 23, 2010

Red alert!
I was in the sky, trying to get the training team in my viewfinder from the rear seat of the lead plane.
My pilot in the front seat was howling at the earth below.

Bartlett: “Gimme a break! I’m babysittin’ nuggets up here!”

Sand Island: “Command Room to Wardog Squadron. We have leakers, aircraft type unknown. Crossing the border to Cape Landers, bearing 278 to 302. Captain Bartlett, your flight is the only group close enough to make the intercept.”

Bartlett: “Baker, Svenson, go trail and stay close. The three of us will go high and engage the bandits. All other aircraft, stay low and out of the fight.”

The world turned upside down, and my stomach turned inside out.

One of, if not the, best introduction quote of a squadron in the series. Tells you everything you need to know about the pilots and their motivations for fighting you in one line. I find most of Ace Combat's dialogue campy (in a good way), but when I first saw that cutscene I immediately felt sympathetic to Gault as a villain. Good stuff.

Which game told the story in the best possible way?
>>
>>172404142
<<Warning! An overly large answer is coming in at high speed!>
I'm going to cheat and answer with three games. First, my answer is Zero, but I claim that Zero takes after AC3 and AC4 in many ways the rest of the series does not. It is, in my opinion, a more polished execution of AC3's method of storytelling after that was already worked upon by AC4.

AC4 is unique in that the protagonist of the story is not the one that the player controls, but is instead a NPC. That NPC being Yellow 13. On top of that, the narrator isn't even Yellow 13, but another character who is not involved with the player or any of the gameplay. Mobius 1 is not the protagonist because he doesn't really have a story. We never learn his motivations or what he is like and besides becoming a war hero, he never undergoes change over the course of the game. He is a vehicle to play the game and to witness Yellow 13's rise and to be the cause of his fall. In this regard it is similar to AC3, but as AC3 doesn't have an official English release I am hesitant to go too deep into its narrative. Yet, generally speaking, AC3 is all about the people you fly with and against, much like how AC4 is about the ace pilots you ultimately kill.

Zero does the same with Pixy as AC4 did with Yellow 13. Pixy is the protagonist and Cipher a supporting protagonist. The story is focused on his downfall and what drove him to being how he is in the introduction movie when we first meet him. Zero however, improves on the lack of the player's development through the ace style system. Cipher begins with no character like Mobius 1, but we learn tiny bits about him through others as the game progresses.

We never learn his personal motivations or what he is like in detail, but we do learn how others come to see him through their interviews. This is best encapsulated through Pixy's story and how he comes to see the war you are fighting for.
>>
>>172408785
In the same way we learn more about Cipher by reflecting off of Pixy's relationship to him, so do we learn more about Pixy through that same dynamic. If we are a mercenary, then we are like the war criminals that bombed an already burning city for revenge. If we are a soldier, we are like the Belkans that would rather burn their own city down than let someone else take it. If a knight, we are like the system that refuses to change even if it destroys the world.

No matter what however, he considers us his friend. It's left open to interpretation why Pixy respects Cipher so much regardless of your ace style and I believe that to be the greatest strength of Zero's narrative. The personality and motivations of the player character is still largely open to interpretation like the other games, but nonetheless your character is directly involved in the events of the larger story. There can be no Pixy without his buddy.

I'm not saying every game needs an ace style system, but that, if we are to continue having faceless main characters, there needs to be a way to incorporate the player's character into the main story. Being a silent, inactive witness makes for a weaker narrative in my opinion.

By permitting us to give a small degree of character to the faceless, voiceless pilot we play as, the game's story is made better and more engaging. AC5 fails because the player is the center of the story, but we never learn anything about him. We have no idea if he is a pacifist like the others or a psychopath bidding his time. Your wingmen don't really reflect on you and the player never really does anything to better reflect their stories. You just exist alongside them for the most part. Though to be fair, I am bias against AC5 so if you prefer it over the others I won't hold it against you. We all have our favorites and reasons for liking them. AC5 just didn't really engage me with its story.

I came to cover this remote island because I heard a very unique squadron leader was stationed here.
I didn’t realize he was this unique, though.
This badmouthed, good-natured old firebrand could take the greenest of rookies and forge him into a fearsome fighter pilot.
...Of course, that possibility vanished with today’s encounter.
The only crew he had left were 2nd Lt. Nagase and the few pilots who happened to be on the ground that day.

Bartlett: “I know you don’t like this, but we’re short on people. Starting tomorrow, all of you nuggets are gonna be sittin’ alert.

Nagase: “Sir,”

Bartlett: “You’re flying number two on my wing. Gotta keep an eye on you or who knows what you’ll get yourself into.”

He really waited until the last possible moment. Another second or two and he would have ejected into the ground. I once heard about an F-14 pilot who died that way. They made a mistake on their carrier landing approach, then the plane stalled. The RIO pulled the handle to punch them both out, but in the split second between his ejection and the pilot's, the plane went totally inverted and the pilot was ejected straight into the water.

On a lighter note, here's a picture that looks like two F-16s fucking.

Bartlett: “Why do they even bother reprimanding me anymore? I know I’m gonna be stuck at Captain forever.”

Genette: “Who do you think’s covering up the battle?”

Bartlett: “Listen, the only thing across that ocean is Murska Air Base; that’s Yuktobanian territory.”

Genette: “But...haven’t we been allies with the Yukes since the war 15 years ago?”

Bartlett: “Yeah…That’s why we got people working their asses off trying to confirm what the hell’s goin’ on over there.
I bet they’ve hotlines ringing off the hook somewhere upstairs. The government doesn’t wanna get the public riled up with all this, you know? But it doesn’t matter, soldiers like us are too stupid to think for ourselves, so we just gotta keep our mouths shut when they tell us to. I feel kinda bad for you, actually.”

Genette: “It’s alright, I get to be with you guys.”

Pops: “The Captain’s probably hating this more than anybody,”

Genette: “Hmm?”

Pops: “ He used to have a lady friend over in Yuktobania.”

Bartlett: “Ah...that’s just an old war wound now…”

I don't know why but I never understood all the jerking that yellow 13 gets. Maybe because the narrators voice acting was terrible but yellow 13 just comes off to me as a smug fuck who genuinely thought that the people who he helped conquer and who's town his military is currently occupying would like him just because he's such a cool guy. I didn't feel anything but contempt as I shot him down.
>>
>>172424360
I wish the tls wasn't always ruining the Morgan's profile. Such a beautiful plane but the tls is there riding on it like some sorta parasite.
>>
>>172433290
In ac5 and zero I always see square artifacts around the burst missile explosions in hardware mode. Is there a way to correct this? Everything is perfect otherwise.

Also, how hard can it be to point your nose up and climb to 5k feet? Christ I always wait for to countdown to start before I do it so I can do max damage and even then i still make it with time to spare.
>>
>>172631984
The connection at the tail with thr airbrake should be further back tbqh. From the top the TLS helps the profile quite a bit because of it.

>>172631834
Should've been a bit more like Manfred, guy had so much fun in one of the worst wars that you can't help but like him. Then again he was more based on Hartmann or Marseille and I got no clue how they were to talk to.

Outside the fact that Hartmann went to a Hitler meeting completely drunk. So there's that.

Yellow honestly just has a cool callsign and paintscheme on the plane.
>>
>>172632831
From the from and back, the tls always triggers me. Ruins the nice curves of plane.
>>
>>172631834
>genuinely thought they'd like him

I don't think you've quite got it.

I mean, the Yellows kicked out some asshole grunts on the first night, then took in the storyteller while patronizing the bar. To me, it seemed like 13 wanted the war to be separate from everything else, and it was pretty crushing when he found out it wasn't. Like, the squadron finally had a corner of the world whose economy wasn't collapsed by massive refugee problems that everyone refused to help with, and wasn't a dangerous battleground. Sure, that's a little naive, but he's not some international politician or /pol/ tier neonazi, he's just fighting on the other side and probably didn't expect to be targeted from people closer to him, as opposed to ones in the actual enemy military.

Make a little more sense?
>>
>>172408785
Also, 13's not the MC, the storyteller boy is. 13 is an important supporting character, though. The thrust of the narrative works somewhat like the latest Mad Max. The story's about how war affects everything in society, not just battlefields, and the storyteller boy is our primary lens to see that through. That's why 13 appears so much later in the story; he's just another lens.
>>
>>172633614
>>172633894
Come on, he was in a town that he conquered. He didn't think that maybe ruining their economy and killing their relatives and friends wouldn't endear himself to the locals? Maybe he didn'tbro it personally but he's still part of the military that did. He's trying to be the cool professional soldier AND the nice guy that everyone around even his enemies him likes. Cant have it both ways.

As for the kid, I don't know if it's the voice acting or the writing but I hated him too. I usually hate kid sidekick type characters in fiction and this was no exception. I know im sounding like pol here but he was a cuck if I ever saw one. Guy kills your parents, steals the girl you like and then you gob and make friends with him? Wtf! Then you feel sad enough when he deservedly gets btfo, that you write a letter explaining everything to me, his killer and how I should feel bad? Fuck you kid.
>>
>>172634468
>steals the girl you like
The fuck? She planted a fucking bomb on his runway. It was an act to get close to him.
>>
>>172634468
It'd also be one thing if 13 dropped a bomb on his parents' house. Another entirely for a pilot to shoot someone down who crashed. 13 didn't kill his parents.
>>
>>172634468
>He's trying to be the cool professional soldier AND the nice guy that everyone around even his enemies him likes. Cant have it both ways
To be fair. That isn't that absurd for fighter pilots to try and be with how oddly different their on and off duty lives are compared to say a regular infantryman at the front.
>>
>>172634468
So when the storyteller writes the letter, it's not "be sad about yellow 13"

It's "I'm looking for the last link between the pre-war life I had and this post-war world, and it's you."

Furthermore, with an absence of father figures for the storyteller boy, he naturally gravitates towards the one who plays the same songs he's known since childhood.
>>
>>172634748
There were a couple of scenes where it showed the girl was jealous of yellow 4
>>
>>172634846
13 shot down the guy who crash into his house. He was responsible. The kid even saw the plane and knew it was 13.
>>
>>172635229
Why else would he tell me how cool of a guy 13 was if he didn't want me to feel bad about killing him.
>>
>>172635229
Maybe AC7 will open with headline news stating that Mobius One has been assassinated at his home by The Storyteller Boy
>>
>>172638081
Yes you could say that, but that is still different from him willingly killing the guys parents. At that point it's just tragic casualties.

The boy might just not look at him as a murderer because of that and may not hold a grudge outside the regular "he's an enemy soldier" thing.

>>172631834
You're making the assumption you are suppose to like Yellow 13. Just because one or two characters in the story have a sort of fascination with him does not mean the narrative is demanding you do the same. In the same way I have little respect for the wingmen in AC5. They talk of peace while killing hundreds over the course of the game. I have little respect for them personally, but I can still respect their role in the game's story. I can still appreciate their story for what it is. The same can be true for Yellow 13. He is a representation of the player. All he wants to do is have fun flying planes and get into dogfights with other aces like him. If you see such behavior as juvenile then that's perfectly fine. Everyone has their own interpretation of a given story. It's what makes sharing critical analysis fun.

For his popularity, I will say it has more to do with him being the first Ace in the series that had a proper release in the west. He is also the Ace that other popular characters, like Pixy, are based upon. So it's hard not to like him if you grew up with him and his game like I did.
>>
>10
>>
>>172680532
I didn't personally agree with my wingmen in 5, but I still liked them. Yeah, the story was overly melodramatic but everyone seemed so sincere it was kinda endearing. They saved my ass more than once especially during the fight with the 8492. If I didn't have them with me I would have had to run. Instead I was able to kill them all. We went through a lot together by the end of the long campaign and I almost shed a tear when that music started playing before solg dropped and snow told me "were almost done here"

Then I came across AC5 on a demo disc, also from the official PlayStation magazine. It had the intro video, Naval Blockade and First Flight and that was me hooked forever.

This was the room...or the cell... I was assigned to.
Captain Hamilton...unlike his superior, the Base Commander who locked me in here, he’s been very reasonable with me.
He even got my camera back. He told me that if his uncle wasn’t a soldier, he would’ve liked to have a job like mine.

Hamilton: “Well, we don’t have any reason to hold you anymore.”

Genette: “What do you mean?”

Hamilton: “Yuktobania just declared war. They’ve launched an offensive simultaneously, too. Our naval port at St. Hewlett is being bombed right now.”

There were only three of them now.
>>
>>172700164
>retarded as fuck story
To be fair towards HAWX, I would put that up to the real world setting than the actual story itself. It's like Assault Horizon. Campy stories work well in fictional settings, but once you start using the real world it starts getting pretty stupid. Ace Combat can get away with its questionable story ideas (2 aircraft win a war from a small airstrip when 99% of the country has already been conquered) because we don't expect real world shit to get in the way.
>>
>>172702129
I'm pretty sure even AC knows the difference between states and PMC's.
>>
>>172702997
A country winning a war after losing everything, but an airbase is a lot less realistic than a super PMC fighting a war against a state in an alternative history setting of Earth. Or somehow after no idea their neighbor is preparing for war even though anyone who walks outside should be able to notice all the tanks waiting across the border. Or notice giant, impossible to hide superweapons in production. Or in AC:AH, a rebellion that was preparing to suddenly take over Russia without anyone noticing before they started attacking.Or a Russian mob somehow starting and supporting a rebellion at all. Or getting access to glorified thermobaric warheads that, once again, no notices them doing.

Ace Combat and HAWX are campy and that's okay. I prefer Ace Combat's storytelling because of the focus on individual pilots, but when you look at their respective settings in detail, they both start to show weaknesses.

The story also wasn't about the players pilot, it was about the squadron of sand island collectively and their journey and the ever growing mystery of the war and slowly untangling it.

the players plane is just a vessel into that squadron.

My understanding is as follows:
-If there's any way to make your name vulgar and/or sexual they'll go with that as your callsign, otherwise
-Your callsign will somehow reference your first big mistake.

you need to run the software mode to see the menu background, and the hardware mode to play. Just switch when you absolutely want to see something in the menu

Not necessarily. The menu backgrounds etc. will vanish if you use DirectX hardware rendering but if you're willing to possibly take a framerate hit then OpenGL will give you everything.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960. Using the DirectX modes gives the best framerate/performance for ingame rendering, but OpenGL keeps the menus intact albeit at a somewhat lower framerate under stress (and the Burst Missile effects et al. look rather sloppy)

How am I supposed to turn or anything and remain level? If I try and turn I flip all over the place and get disoriented
>>
>>172850597
Same thing with AC7 probably

The issue in 3 is that, like 1 it only really accepts one directional input at a time I think. don't try to roll and turn at the same time.

It takes some getting used to but it works. I just used the Dpad to fly for those.

Same. Using the analog in any of the PS1 games just feels weird.

Does anyone else think the YF-22 is cooler than it's production counterpart?

This is a slow thread anon, no need to rush it.

So I've been playing Ace Combat 6 a lot recently, and one thing I've noticed is that when you're going faster, the missiles don't home as well. Is there a reason for this IRL or is it just the game?
>>
>>172859803
Well you're just launching it with more energy, and since it's faster it won't maneuver as well.

That said IRL missiles are much scarier than AC missiles though. Those fuckers are absurdly maneuverable.

But this is wrong? Missile would rapidly accelerate anyway to its terminal speed. Also, speed creates more lift to maneuver. Don't really have to care about g's here.
>>
Everyone stop (You)ing the shitposter
