I have a Wii U coming in the mail as well as a 64gb SD card.

Eventually I want to get a 1tb external drive for games but for now I have a 128gb USB 3.0 drive. Is it easy to migrate my games and saves over from the 128gb to an external at a later date? Or should I just shell out for a cheap western digital external now?
>>
So I've just dusted off my softmodded Wii for the first time in almost 6 years to play some of the older Zeldas. Right now my Wii is on System Menu 4.1. I've updated the bootmii boot2, Homebrew Channel and Wii Shop (missed the music) to the latest versions and backed the NAND. I looking to update to System Menu 4.3 manually.

The general word seems to be still "Don't update cause you don't need to" but fuck it. I've always been paranoid that WiiConnect24 would get flipped on somehow and fuck up the softmod. I don't want to tack another mod like Priiloader to block the updates.

I've been out of the Wii mod world for a while, but so far from what I gather from reading up is that the 'clean' way to go about it seems to be to use NUS Downloader to get the IOS80 (System Menu 4.3) wad and then use DOP-Mii to install it. Also seems that I should probably update the IOSes that aren't mothballed or preventative as listed on wiibrew:

http://wiibrew.org/wiki/IOS_History

Are there any other steps I need to take to prevent automatic / disc updates that don't involve installing extra mods like Priiloader?

>PegaSwitch is an exploit toolkit for the Nintendo Switch. By taking over WebKit, we are able to read/write memory, call native functions, and otherwise explore the functionality of the Switch from the domain of the WebKit process. >>
>>171542780
that's one way of getting it or you can just enter up up right down left left while holding attack on the title screen
>>
>>171519021
There were several methods
Native running (1.5 was the most prolific time for homebrew applications, a lot of truly homebrewed games came out made in c++, LUA, shells, calculators, a lot of homebrew still came afterwards but it was mostly updating old stuff)
Opening a .TIFF image
Opening browser page
GTA Liberty City Stories which funnily enough wasn't even about homebrew first, some guy noticed he could inject code into saves and what he did was create an in-game cheat menu that would be displayed on top of the game and allow to alter stars, money, health, spawn cars, alter physics, teleport, fly, etc, then other people were like wtf, this is perfect for running a homebrew launcher, and then later on a downgrader
Then .TIFF again and downgrading to a lower firmware to boot every time an emulated higher firmware
Then Lumines and permanent Custom Firmwares
Then for a brief period of time modchips, until the Service Mode was discovered and Pandora batteries + Magic sticks were created
Devices compatible with that weren't patchable as it was a hardware access thing, new ones kept coming and exploits kept being found but many of these devices couldn't have a permanent CFW, they always needed to launch into a Homebrew Enabler mode first to then load the CFW into memory.
The PS3 was hacked and in the internal PSP mode (for playing Minis from the store, though it really supports any PSP game) signing keys were found so from then on it was useless, any homebrew could be signed and booted from official firmware.

The interesting thing in comparisson to the 3DS is that everything was very streamlined, like, you just ran this installer through a game or any exploit and you had CFW. No dumping/swapping/moving/etc around.
>>
>>171544261
For 3DS only for homebrew usually launching a single thing will get you into the HBL, but for CFW it requires a mix of many methods, like this ___ method to get to 9.20, in some cases having to change the NFIRM, from 9.20 booting into Decrypt9 and doing something with 2.x CTR, dump the OTP for A9LH, then upgrade to the lastest, with a LOT of SD card connecting and disconnecting.

Since from a given firmware (e.g. 9.20) steps and software already exist, new methods only have to care about getting you down to 9.20 for a CFW, from there on you just follow the old steps. There's nothing that does it all, but I guess its because of the added complexity and the need to keep changing between one software or the other, the PSP was so damn open that streamlined solutions that did everything were more achievable.
>>
>>171544261
Also after the heaving pwning with the Pandora Battery or the officially-signed Homebrew, people stopped actively looking for exploits in games, only to do it again for PSP games available for the Vita.

And in fact more exploits (most of them userland exploits but still some were kernel exploits) were discovered in PSP games during this period (though sadly some were leaked because internal scene bickering, some leaks burning dozens of exploits at honce) than exploit discovered in PSP games during its own lifetime. For this reason Sony didn't put any PSP demo for the Vita (as those could still be easily exploitable).

just finished a week-long journey of hacking my new wii u (which took a few hours), then getting a ton of games, some of which are ports that i've played before on PC.

people complained that the wii u didn't have a solid library of games. with potential access to all of its games (plus wii, etc.), is this still true?

what are the best and/or most underrated games for this bastard console? it looks fun
>favorite game so far is mellow mode co-op "yoshi's wooly world." so comfy

Custom HOME Menu still hasn't been written. That's about the only thing that hasn't been done except actual homebrew games of course.
>>
>>171529620
He's talking about Monster Hunter XX there, you dingus. English text usually takes a week to implement for items, menus, and most weapons, which is all you usually need to start playing the game.
>>
>>171544261
Early in the PSP lifetime, development of homebrew (some shitty, some simple, some really complex stuff) was so prolific that it outpaced official game releases and it ranged from a lot of applications, and there were dozens of sites for hosting it and offering downloads

Sadly the 3DS, cracked as it is now, doesn't have even 1/1000th of a prolific homebrew scene, most of the homebrew is apps to assist with hacking, installing stuff, browsing files, accessing storage, communication, managers, engines, altering code in games, fooling the system values, emulators, basic themes extdata modification, etc.

But it was not only about such apps and emulators (though it has the best ones in handheld consoles), or running ISOs, people were VERY enthusiastic about making their own games and apps, some ones I really loved were IRShell, a super complete shell that could almost be a replacement for the whole standard home menu with a ton of built in stuff, with a ton of files supported (images, PDFs, etc), infrared commands (for the PSP1000) for controlling TVs, connecting the PSP to a computer and with RemoteJoy (another software) outputting video to the PC, Guitarway To Heaven, a Dance Dance Revolution clone (much before Rockband came out to the PSP), there were some scientific calculators (much better than whats available as homebrew on 3DS and that being without a touch screen), Silveredge (a really awesome bullet hell), No Gravity (a space shooter game that actually was so good that it later became an official game on the PSN), Light Cycle (a 3D clone of TRON bikes), and a ton of hobbyist games (easily in the hundreds).

Also home menu functionality was very extensible, at first it was just changing icons/themes, then they had power over rearranging them, altering the sizes and changing not only the positions in vertical/horizontal but also depth, some made the menu like X360 blades literally with animation and stuff, others like PS3, or like a computer.

Newfag here, regarding pirating Wii U games.

Can someone give me and example of how I'm meant to name the game folders.

Some people on GBAtemp were trying to do something like that on the 3DS. It seems possible, but it clearly required too much effort for them.

Freeshop has a list of games for the games you have installed (or the cartridge you have inserted)

That list will have a /!\ either green or yellow if it has DLC or updates available. Press on the name of the game (again, not in the search/top of the screen, but in the lower screen in the section of installed games) and it will give you the buttons to download either the DLC or the updates.

eShop will erase sometimes your not legit DLC once you enter it, so all DLC you have to obtain through freeshop or manual install.
>>

I went into the list but smash doesn't have any icons. When I go to boot it though it says a software update is available.

for my 3DS, if the only thing I want to do is play original DS roms, do I need to hack it or can I just buy a flashcart? I updated to 11.3 before I had a chance to hack my console, and am now considering making the 4 hour round trip to my parents town so I can exchange it for a fresh one, but I only really want to be able to play with my many shitty DS music creators, so if I can just spend a few bucks and not spend my day off driving, that'd be really cool.

I have difficulty understanding why the infinity cfws (or whatever the 'last' ones were called) had you boot into ofw and then jump to cfw, why the fuck would i ever want to use ofw? I opted for the patched ipl option. I didn't spend fuck knows how many years on cfw to suddenly go back just because we had keys.
>>
>>171557448

because the later 2000 and all 3000 models can't flash the IPL, so they have to piggyback. infinity 6.61 isn't as good of a CFW as something like m33 or 6.60pro, but for people with the unflashable motherboards its a good "permanent" CFW rather than having to run that stupid CFW enabler every time you turn it on

I've tried:

NTR overclocking
HANS
Luma settings Clock + L2

None showed any noticeable improvements so far... game still looks like it's running below 30 fps.

(I'm using a physical copy by the way)
>>

According to advice from another anon, try Antiblacklist. Apparently more games can work with it than whitelister. Can't say how well it works. I'm thinking I'm going to skip the fat PS2 completely and pay for a used PS3.

>>
>>171566747
20GB/60GB fat PS3s can play PS2 games perfectly, 80GB models and beyond have partial compatibility.

Honestly though fat PS3s for PS2 games is very overrated. They run louder, hotter, consume more electricity, and finding a old fat model that isn't on the verge of death is a pain in the ass. Rather just get a PS2 and a swap magic disc. Much cheaper and less of a pain to obtain.

Needless to say that did not wind up being the case.

Also bought an exploitable Wii U on ebay and sold my old one taking a bit of a loss in between like a week before the exploit was expanded

>Are you guys using 1tb externals?
Just a 32GB stick. Beats the old 4GB card I was using.

>Does it have to be an empty drive or can it just be a folder in the harddrive/usb?
Doesn't have to be empty, but it throws all the memory card folders onto the root of the device. Can be a bit cluttered if you're going to use the usb for other things.

No, the hack is specific to the 3DS. You'd have to hack it all first. You'd have to transfer all your saves using JKSM.
>>
>>171605083
I don't understand what you meant when you said I'd have to hack it all first. So I have to hack the N3DS with luma+a9lh, the same hack that is on my N3DSXL, and then what would happen if I put my SD card from the XL in the N3DS? All my games and everything are on there, but not the saves right?
>>
How easy is it to hack a n3DS now compared to a couple months before? On 11.0 right now.
>>
>>171605326
It doesn't work like that at all. You need to System Transfer after hacking both if you want the games on another system.
>>
Hey guys. I've recently got a 3DS because they say it's quite easy to hack. Is it possible to play NDS games on it just hacking it or do I need to start looking for a flashcard?
>>
>>171605462
see this post >>171516640
>>
>>171605326
You would have to do the whole a9lh process for the N3DS, yes.
I think you'd probably have to reinstall all your games and you would definitely have to use a save manager for your saves.
>>
>>171605587
Don't you have a flashcard already?
>>
>>171605552
Does that mean I need to buy another 128gb SD card for the N3DS? I have a ton of games, and I don't know how a system transfer would make that work.
>>
>>171605689
Never been a handheld guy, so nope, I don't.

>>
>>171605998
I know you get to keep legit games, but I'm talking about pirated games installed through FBI.
>>
>>171605998
I've never done a system transfer before. So it's going to prompt me to switch SD cards during the process? If it transfers my games, why not my saves?
>>
>>171606175
If you know how to copy a file then yes, you can copy games from one SD to another.

>>171606292
It transfers everything. Which is the whole point.
>>
Is there a way to connect to foreign eshop to update games on the 3ds?
>>
>>171606175
pirated games don't transfer regardless because of how the system transfer works you just reinstall your games as always
>>

I downloaded BotW NTSC version through Wii U USB Helper, and when I checked the base game's folder, my computer reads it only weights 426 megabytes, while when I downloaded BotW PAL version before, I remember it weighing around 9 gigabytes.

Am I being played as a fool, or is this actually the correct amount of bytes BotW NTSC needs to install on my Wii U? Its weight is MUCH less heavy than the PAL version, and that's what made suspect something's wrong.

I have the cartridge and I want to try the dlc but it only works with dumped versions of the game so I will have to uninstall my current one and install a dumped version of the game.
Anyways, if I uninstall it, I will lose all my progress.
Is there a way to backup my gamesave and restore it when I reinstall the game again with the dlc?
>>
>>171626618
>i got a refurbished one from gamestop
Embarrassing.
>>
>>171626618
Refurbished can mean so many things.
In general, it means 'Made to work again'.
Which may imply it was broken in the first place, the person who fixed it is 'certified' in some way, it's been updated (Your situation), setup (Programs installed), or modified.

Generally it's better to just buy used if the condition that makes an item 'refurbished' is not stated explicitly in detail.
Or in the case of N3DS, just buy new since it's guaranteed hackable firmware without a history of use or change.

HENkaku has always been piss easy. Literally opening a website in the browser every time you boot up from a powered off state (not standby) and you get to play decrypted games.

Has anyone figured out how to make Senran Kagura Bon Appetit read Shinovi Versus DLC on the Vita?
I've tried editing the param.sfo to match BA, tried to merge it with BA's DLCs and did both combined.
Nothing worked.

I heard someone say on /v/ that vita has cfw now

No permahacks yet. And yes, it's true. HENkaku is a CFW after all.

Yes, you can.

I'm trying to hack a friend's 3DS but it's on 7.1.0-0, so that means no browser availiable.
What was it that I needed to do to update the console to a more modern firmware by using a game card?

I lost my backup
Am I fucked
>>
>>171651907

I was searching around and found this:
https://github.com/henkaku/offline-installer/releases/

this reminds me a lot of the old gateway profile exploit on 3ds, just something you had to do every time you turn the system on that gets you into the cfw

is this similar? If it works I'll be using this. Too paranoid of updating to a bad firmware to let my handhelds go online

>>
>>171653039
Don't you need a memory card in order to install henkaku?
Thats whats in the guide anyway
>>
>>171652552
answered your own question
>>
>>171653095
You only absolutely have to get a memory card if you're getting the original Vita (1000 series). The Slim and PSTV both have an internal storage that's used as long as no memory card is present.
So, set up HENkaku in the internal storage, plug in USB drive, mount uma0: in latest VitaShell, copy everything from ux0: to uma0: and mount uma0: as ux0: afterwards.
Bam, you now have a USB drive that acts like a memory card.
>>
>>171653348
Thank you so much
>>
>>171653164
Trying to boot the game won't just connect to internet and update to 11.3? I recall there being a method to boot into some kind of recovery mode and updating to whatever version the game card wanted.
>>
>>171653095
PSTV has like a gig of internal memory if there's no card in it, and Henkaku has supported it since last September, it looks like.
>>
this is probably a stupid question that has been answered a million times but:

do the games that don't normally work with PSTV work on PSTV with Henkaku?

Not with HENkaku per se. But there's the possiblity to disable the blacklist (or enhance the whitelist?).
Though, iirc not every game works even with the hacks. But most should.
>>
>>171653718
I'm mostly interested in Ys Celceta, Ys 8, Gravity Rush and Metal Gear Solid HD Collection

all of which aren't on the whitelist
>>
>>171653495
If you install a whitelisting app like AntiBlackList and run it once, most normal vita games will work on pstv, save for a select few that require gyroscopic controls for stuff.

>>171653861
As far as I know, those should work fine. I would recommend you have a DS4 for Gravity Rush, since it requires some touch input for stuff, apparently.

The incompetence is entirely on the client end, the servers are actually fine and frankly, nice.
They have practically no overhead from verification since it doesn't do any for common tasks.
Sony have the same setup with the additional obfuscation that their URLs don't seem to have much in the way of logic behind them, you either know the exact url or you don't. But at least you know the good stuff is on Zeus.

https://3ds.guide/cart-update.html
>Cart Updates will not deliver updates to Nintendo 3DS Sound and Network features, such as System Transfer, Internet Browser, StreetPass Mii Plaza or eShop
>Updating with a game cart containing the version 9.9.0 or above will remove your browser!

Looks like that wasn't going to work. So how do I get a working browser on a 7.1.0 without going all the way to 11.3?
>>
>>171657871
cart update to 9.X or above.
>>
>>171658148
But according to the guide that will not update the browser, which is what I need to update.
I mean, sure, on 9.X I don't need it to get to Decrypt9 since there's soundhax but to install arm9loaderhax later I will need to go to http://2xrsa.3ds.guide and for that I need a working browser, don't I?
>>
>>171658703
Browsers only needed on 2.1. or firmwares where soundhax doesn't have a ropbin payload to use but they otherwise have a working browser.
You're only going to 9.x really to use soundhax, then you jump to 2.1 with a working browser.
It's all in the guide.
>>
>>171658856
Oh right, that 2.1 isn't the firmware that one starts with afterall.
Thank you.

How big a card do I need to play Persona 4 Golden on a PS Vita?

I think the .vpk is ~2.70GB, but it has to be installed.

Is there a way to play it with a 4GB memory card?

If so, how can I do it?
>>
>>171660964
P4G is like 3.3-3.6GB
it might work, but it would be a very tight fit
>>
>>171661598
How would it fit?
The .vpks alone uses up ~2.70GB. Installing it would take another 2.70GB at least, right?

I've read that .vpks are basically just .zip files.

Could I just extract what's inside the .vpk of Persona 4 Golden into the game directory of the memory card?

Yo niggas check this:

Got USB on PSTV working nicely, have Adrenaline installed on the USB so I don't take up any space on my PSTV's internal storage, shit's tight.

Thing is, I can't get into any folders using the USB on my PC. They just aren't there. I can get into them by typing the directory in, but that's pretty gay.

For example, pspemu isn't showing up, but mai's folders are.

I think TheFag was very anal about how unsafe it really is and you need to delete Vitashell and reinstall it in Unsafe mode for it to run properly.
If you installed Vitashell a while ago it is probably still classed as "safe" so won't let you touch them tasty files.

Is Phantasy Star Online 2 manageable to play without any moon rune knowlegde?
>>
>>171665348

PSO needs constant updating and an online connection last I checked, so you can't even play it.
>>
>>171665348
PSO2 needs a decent amount of moonrune knowledge if you want to understand the story and what abilities and skills do what. Also the game requires a 32GB memory card and PSN access so if you have henkaku then you're forced to update.

On PC there's a English patch available. The game also plays much better on there than on Vita. 60+ FPS, better graphics, etc.
>>
>>171665348
There's a English patch for Phantasy Star Nova available. It's still incomplete but it translates the menus and some dialogues. It should be enough to get by since the gameplay is mostly action rather than dialogue.
