As someone who loves the shit out of both Bayonetta (and most of Platinums other major games) and Automata (and Taro's other works), Automata really doesn't offer the same thing traditional Platinums previous games do.

There's potential for flashy use of your moveset, but beyond that it's missing many of the elements of traditional Platinum games. The game doesn't particularly reward high skill level combos, and the games levelling system and some abilities specifically exist to trivialise certain aspects of combat. Outside of specific bosses the game doesn't particularly challenge you either.

Automata's combat is definitely something that feels like it's by Platinum, but what it's attempting to deliver is more of an action-gameplay based JRPG that has unique mechanics involved than a traditional action game like Bayonetta or DMC. Not to mention that a sizable portion of the game involves dialogue, going from place to place and non-combat gameplay so it really isn't the focus of the game.

In other words, if you "just want a new DMC game", Automata will not deliver on that.

For lorefags, I have a question for you in term of continuity and timeline regarding Nier and Automata
Is it me or Yoko fucked up a bit the plot in its continuity between nier and automata?

I understand the whole concept of YoRHa and shit, but something doesn't make much sense when it comes to "hide the truth from androids" plot part: outside sources state the last gestalts died on 4198, effectively defining the exctinction of humanity (further confirmed in automata as "approx 4200" in a document). Aliens showed up on 5012, so there were still a rather long timeframe where Androids should have realized humans were all dead.

Let's assume one bit that they still managed to do some damage control. How was it even possible considering it took 800 years for humans to disappear on earth? I mean the Popola and Devola models were shunned for years because it is common knowledge Nier P&D 'fucked" up the project gestalt.
So shouldn't androids be really wary about the very few remaining Replicant and/or merged Replicant/Gestalt? In that scenario, I wouldn't be surprised if every android would horribly go overprotective towards the remaining humans, so having that info not leaked sounds like a stretch to me.

Coincidentally, does the game explain when the all YoRHa plan started? The war started a little less than 700 years prior Automata, so things are a bit sketchy in the meantime.

Not really that important as they are NPC. They pretty much had to change the name due to copyright. In both dubs, the names are bleeped out as they obviously couldn't change the recording. (However, asian/JP version of the ps4 game isn't affected).

As for being more coarse, I didn't mean it as "vulgar", but the english script does add more "flavor", but it doesn't drop even drop the F bomb (or at least, very very rarely). it just that some character sound way more blunt and sometimes haughty than what the jp implied.

It is nowhere close to what happened to Zero in DoD3 though.

Exactly what I meant yeah. Hell, even at the very start of the game, when 9S offers the map data, the script makes 2B says "Do it", whereas her jp dub states "got it".

There are a lot of instances where 2B really appear stiff and hardass for no reason, and it makes her "nines" blunders fairly less cute.

A2 also got some instances (I really thought they wanted to make her a kaine 2 at some point).

The funny thing is that they also made the Commander using "goddamn" in some instances, which add some emotions in her speech, whereas she is supposed to be really composed.

The pro handles 60FPS like 90% of the time without any problem. It becomes apparent when you aggro a dozen of stubbies at the same time while going ham with combo and pod.

I sometimes got framerate dips in ruins and desert without any fight going on, but it was definitely not horrible by any means.

I can't tell how it went on the regular PS4, but pop in generally happened for few elements in the backgrounds like bushes, trees from medium distance.
That said, I very rarely got area pop in (like when I return back to the base on foot, sometimes the whole base is black for a split of second before the area is fullly loaded).
I think this happened like 3-4 times during my 100% run.

I found it hard to empathise with 9S to a certain extent. I felt bad for the guy at multiple points in the plot, but he spends so much of the game going "FUCK MACHINES, THEY'RE SO SHIIIIIIIIIIT" "REEEEE, A2, NO TALKING JUST FIGHTING" that he just seems like an angsty teen.
Like, his fate and very existence is tragic, but the way he handles himself when it comes to almost anything but but 2B makes it harder for me to care about him.
I do understand his childlike behaviour is intentional, what with ending D being named Childhoods End.

This isn't to say I don't find him entertaining or well written. I totally get why he goes fucking nuclear. I just think that, in his quest to avenge Toobers he loses sight of what matters.

I hope Ending E Nines has a better life.

Call me an autist or weeb but I think some of the lines and delivery of melodrama don't really translate that well into English. And you can't really localize certain aspects too far otherwise they'll flat out not match the actions and expressions onscreen. And English VAs just flat out can't do convincing emotional cries/roars imo.

I want to live in a world where we can get classically trained stage actor's to do VA work for all games, Like how they got Lena Headley and Sean Bean for Kingsglaive. BUT we don't need these big name actors, go to the UK and scout smaller and lesser known stage actors that have talent or are on the rise/getting some decent Hollywood roles[ le foreigners taking our jobs meme :^) ]. Somebody like David Oyelowo (Moonlight), Riz Ahmed (The Night Of), Daniel Kaluuya (Get Out). If you keep your ear to the ground and manage to grab these guys around when they're doing some establishing work, but haven't ha their BIG break yet, you could get them for peanuts compared to Bean or Headley. It would make the games VA industry great again rather than hiring these bargain basement acting rejects that went into voice acting. There are only a handful of truly decent to good English VAs and between the games and cartoon industry there just aren't enought to go around. By getting these stage actors into VA work, you could change the entire industry paradigm and revitalize voice acting for stuff that just the latest Pixar/Disney animated blockbuster.

Sidenote, I started playing God Eater recently and it pisses me off how "wacky" they made the scientist/Dr. guy.

I have old ass monitor which only supports resolution till 1600x900, so I usually use DSR for 2400x1350. Works fine on most games honestly if they're well optimized or older.

That's literally the dev team needing to fill images on the screen and cheating with ones from prologue cutscenes. We see everything that happens in the prologue from his exact perspective and we see that he really didn't have a chance to upload his own memories. But let's say for a second that he did happen to remember, and he chose to hide this from everyone for no reason. Wew. Stated game out and died few times, got ending W. Again and again. Finally died to those twin chicken wings boss battle. I really don't know what am I supposed to do when they swing horinzontally since 2B cannot jump for long enough. Also what's the point of opening shortcuts, and did I miss every single save point till here? I really couldn't find a save point. Fun game, great ost, not looking forward to redoing everything again because I couldn't find save points.

There are no checkpoints in the factory, and it's a semi-open RPG so the shortcuts are for revisiting it later
