Do not bully the 9S.

>>171323290
Yeah, I just got back from work. Bit pissed it's apparently a shite port. I'm guessing I won't have much luck if I go 1440p fullscreen? Some people are doing it, somehow.

Hopefully the Zestiria guy fixes it, seems like his type of game.

Use a guide. USE A GUIDE.

>Any general tips to make the game more fun/bearable?
No. Prepare for suffering. DoD1 changes a man.
>Can you get all of the weapons just by playing the game normally or do you have to do some extra stuff along the way?
Using a guide is basically a necessity, almost all of them are hidden in super obscure places, and some don't even spawn until you fulfill some arbitrary requirements that the game doesn't even so much as hint towards.

Play on easy. Normal just makes everything take longer.
Use a guide for the weapons.
You'll have to replay missions. Deal with it.
Long swords are generally great. Short swords and staves are terrible.
Never ever mute the audio or turn down the BGM.
>>
>>171323776
>Play on easy. Normal just makes everything take longer.
I agree with this but there are some weapons you can only get on normal, so bump it up for those missions.

Lots of shitposting about it, as you can see. It's not a great port - I changed all my settings as I wanted (fullscreen 1440p bla bla) and was met with a nice huge black border around the entire title screen. Reminds me of the FFX days. Wait for a patch/a fan-patch/play it windowed.

How to hide my mouse cursor when using a controller playing Nier Automata on PC with Borderless Gaming? Using the hide mouse cursor options for the game and what not doesn't work and win+scroll lock doesn't work when manually hiding cursor so it's a pain to undo, and my mouse cursor basically flutters in the center of the screen otherwise.

Is there any solution other than Borderless Gaming like target line?

Alternatively can I get some ideal keyboard remappings so I can just use m+kb? I really can't make sense of this keyboard inputs menu, don't know where to start.

If you visit one of the /v/ threads then even the infighting that happens in generals will feel like a breeze. Though most of them seem to just be talking about how they hate 9S
>>
>>171326761
Game is currently paused, using Borderless Gaming to force 1080p fullscreen. Looks a lot better than the PS4 version, seems to have a lot more colour and of course the resolution is higher.

Unfortunately, the game stutters whenever I look out onto a wide out door area (i.e. I get stutter after 9S flies away) but inside the factory it plays beautifully. Playing 1440p in windowed mode is ugly and choppy as hell, but I don't think it would run good enough for average play anyway. I would even argue that currently my PS4 plays the game more smoothly, which isn't great news.

i7 3820 @ 3.60GHz
16GB RAM
GTX 1070

Obviously my specs should be enough to play this in 4K if I wanted, but unfortunately, that's not the case. Definitely needs a performance patch, as well as a resolution patch.

Hmm, actually let me test the FPS. It definitely feels a little stuttery, but let me double check with FRAPs. Otherwise, this seems to look like the PS4 Pro version - I don't remember seeing lens flare on the PS3 version, and thank the Watchers, we finally have some AA. It's also working fine with vsync at 60 FPS which is excellent.

All in all, it's not terrible. Tales of Zestiria was a thousand times worse, and Tales of Berseria had a fucking AI bug which buggered enemies up. Compared to most Japanese releases, this is passable. Hopefully Durante takes an interest and fixes it.

I wasn't outright fishing for bad texture work right off the bat or anything, it just caught my eye with how jarring it is.

Read the filename, this is literally the first place they tell you to go after the tutorial fight and it's physically impossible to not notice how awful the textures are unless you lost your glasses.

This isn't like /v/irgins clipping out of bounds in Dark Souls 3 and complaining about flat textures on some out-of-the-way rooftop you're not meant to look at.

Besides, even B-games should be held to some standards. Or not cost 60 dollars.

Besides the playable characters, there are a few stragglers, like 4S, the drug addict in the desert, and the one at the oasis

But for the most part yes, YoRHa is completely gone

The original plan was to make YoRHa 2: Electric Boogaloo on Earth using combat data from the old YoRHa units to make a new, more advanced generation, but if Jackass actually spreads that Tower info around and makes the truth behind YoRHa common knowledge, it would hinder that plan pretty hard, so the moondroids that came up with it all might be up shit creek now

People exaggerate things regarding Nier's gameplay. It's nothing incredible, but it's not bad either. It's totally fine for the kind of game it is.

>>
>>171332770
Honestly there may be a significant difference between the things possible in Automata and NieR but they play almost the same. All these sick combos you see in webms that are possible in Automata you don't really use since you're virtually never up against a singular enemy that you can actually juggle. 90% of the fights are you being swarmed and you end up hitting evade into a simple string that gives space into more evading, and the other 10% is against enemies that you can't juggle at all. In the first nier you did almost exactly that all the time, especially since your attacks are also evade cancellable. Though to be fair it was still simpler in the first nier since the best way to cream bosses for time achievements was to evade cancel the greatswords ground pound while stuffing double damage ups into your face.

Because when I die I keep getting the game over screen and have to start from the very beginning of the prologue.

I didn't wipe my data the first time I saw E, but after I got the platinum and did a few more things like the Emil battles, I went back and replayed it and wiped my save as a final goodbye, am I ok

Not him but I'm not patting anyone on the back besides maybe the PC. I'm a selfish cunt and a hoarder, but I can still appreciate the beauty of what amounts to empty sacrifice for the sake of it. That doesn't mean I'm going to go along with it. It's like saying 'if you die to kill the final boss you need to delete your save'.
Yeah I'll go along with it the first time, but what do you mean 'bid that final farewell'? It's an exercise in pointlessness. It's not beautiful. It's not meaningful. It's an act of playing along, and that means it's whatever you want to do. Who says I'm ending my time with the game, after all?

What does that even mean though? You can appreciate a game without following through on everything about it. Don't forget that even if a game can be used as an artform to communicate values, it's fundamentally something for my own enjoyment. If I want to keep fucking playing because it's fun why should I stop? Just because I think Taro's story is beautiful doesn't mean I should make a completely fucking empty sacrifice. 2B and 9S don't lose jack when they blow themselves up, and even at the very end of the game, after all their hardships and bullshit they went through the pods manage to revive them and 042 didn't even sacrifice himself. This whole idea of backing up your save is lampshaded and practically summed up by 9S pod saying being alive is an embarrassment or something like that. The game is literally telling you if you don't struggle to surivive (e.g. backing your shit up so you don't lose it), then you're a baka, even if it makes you look dumb or is emarrassing.
>>

>>
>>171337838
>the question itself
No, anon. You are not asserting your value as a human being to hardcoded text, this isn't even on the level of androids. You are comforting yourself, patting yourself on the back, jerking off your own ego. Now that's fine and I think that's kind of the point being made in the first place, but you're not truly making a sacrifice in the same sense, because you're not giving something up for the sake of someone else - you're giving something up so you can feel good about it and that is it. Nobody benefits from you deleting your data. Nobody benefits from you keeping your data. This choice affects you and you alone. You cannot assert this particular set of values to yourself.
>>
>>171337270
>Not him but I'm not patting anyone on the back besides maybe the PC
PC as in computer or PC as in player character? Neither seems to make sense in this context.

>what do you mean 'bid that final farewell'?

>PC as in computer or PC as in player character?
Player Character. I play as the player character but I am not him.

>There is nothing more final and conclusive than sacrificing your data
WHY should I make something final and conclusive? Do you destroy your copy of a movie when you finish watching it? Do you burn your copy of LotR when you're done reading it? This sort of shit makes sense if you're 'closing the door', but there is literally no reason for me to be closing the door. I'm not even demonstrating my resolve because I'm literally not resolved to not play this game, it's fun and enjoyable and I don't feel the need to stop. I went alng with it one, for the kicks, but that's it.

>I mean, at least you're honest? Still depressing, though.
It isn't depressing at all. Being able to know what you want is the least depressing thing possible. Not know what you want and feeling eternally confused is the most depressing thing possible.

This mentality sort of only applies to the first game. In this one it's literally encouraged by the entire game to backup your data, even in the final ending everyone survives and even 042 "sacrifice" wasn't exactly real since he survived. The lampshading (which also hinges on self-deprecation, which we all know taro is known for) and transhumanistic themes about you being you even if you're totally a copy and blahblah practically went over your head.

Although I will gladly give you that people who act like haughty shit for learning how to cloud save should be gassed.

I'm actually pretty convinced you giving up your save data does nothing considering when you do get help during the final battle and you take a hit it says something like ("character name" memory was destroyed) but the game would have deleted their shit before actually the sending help to you, it's not like they get their data back if you complete the rest of the stage without getting hit.

>>
>>171338518
>its literally the only thing that could ever check
No anon. Your value as a human being is not something you just 'assert'. Your value and values as a human being are something you decide on your own. The question is literally just asking if you're going to go along with it but either way it does NOT match the original sacrifice in-game. In the game you have andriods sacrificing themselves for the sake of others, an act of pure heroism. You sacrifice your data for the sake of your own ego and satisfaction, which while not evil is certainly not heroic.

>>171338748
You don't fucking become a hero by destroying your save that's the problem. You save nothing by destroying that save. You protect nothing by destroying that save. All you do is get to say "LOOK I'M A HERO" while saving nothing but your own pride, which is decidedly not heroic.

Why do you keep bringing up the androids? They have nothing to do with it. You aren't supposed to be imitating them.

>I am literally incapable of understanding why anyone would give up their data as a symbolic act of gratitude
Nice projection, senpai.
>>
>>171339321
The system let's you delete your save data so your message and "ship" can help other players in the future. No delete = no message for others. Whether or not they actually delete that message if a player gets hit is not really clear, although it's more likely that they keep the messages and just wanted the player to know that one other player sacrificed his save so that you can beat the boss.
>>
>>171339342
my method is first getting him on his route through the city center area, then going to the near factory save point and waiting for him to roll by, buy the cheapest thing he has, then teleport back and forth between near factory and resistance camp until he moves.
sometimes he can be stubborn though, and twice it was due to me skipping around in chapter select and not properly unlocking the inventory, you need an email from him with a subject line "wayyyy bored"

Tell me what you protect by destroying that save anon. And by destroying I mean 'not backing up'. Because while I did refuse to backup the first time because wow that was really a well done thing, I don't want to do it every time I finish an A-E playthrough.
Yes, it's beautiful the first time around but it seems to me exceedingly stupid, and I think the characters would agree, to 'die' in order to save someone when you can instead 'die' then 'resurrect' in order to save someone.

>>171339725
>Why do you keep bringing up the androids? They have nothing to do with it. You aren't supposed to be imitating them.
Then explain to me who I'm supposed to be imitating, because without even that sacrifice to model it off, it becomes well and truly meaningless, without even symbolic meaning.

You can't work around it. Either you give up your save with ending E or you don't. Your backup doesn't have ending E unlocked, you're still sacrificing that part of the game. Seriously, it's a bizarre game. Such a bizarre game. I know everyone goes on about it, but fuck me, it's one you never ever forget. I will always recommend it. The music is one of my favourite things about it, the game never ever lets you have any kind of rest at all. The DLC makes Octa seem a tad more interesting, because there's emphasis on his fear of what Three's becoming and how he's failed her when she's fallen so far as to start experimenting on people.

But he's mainly a joke in the rest of the game and it's not really brought up again.
>>
Another thing about D3 is that despite the horrible technical problems and PSP graphics, it has really expressive animations, especially when it comes to faces.

Octo is one of the most obvious because he has such a cartoonish design, but Zero's smile is so good.
>>
>>171348301
I hate to break it to you but if you aren't familiar enough with the rest of the series to even recognize the lunar tear much of this game, especially why one character's breakdown seems to be progressing way faster than it should, is going to go straight over your head.
>>
Is there any kind of 9S remote control tier list?

My favorite so far is the drill snake things. They have shit vertical movement, but they're fast and somewhat idiot-proof.

I hate the big-armed giants. They're so fucking slow.

Why is the dodge on most of the standard machines a huge leap backwards instead of something to help with their mobility? I keep reflexively doing it because dashing as an android is good for milling about, and I get frustrated.
Though, you can just use it to go backwards at a good speed.

I haven't been able to experiment much, you need to be able to find some non-hostile machine, or a RARE occurrence where you can actually sneak up on one, and hope that you told 2B to play passive.
It's maddening. You aren't even in their line of sight and most of the time they just reflexively know that you're there.
>>
>>171348349

errrrrrrrrrrrr......technically it runs like a shitshow, gameplaywise, it's more spammy than Nier imo, the only aim really is two cut through waves of enemies amd watch yourself get more and more bloodsplattered, mindless fun maybe.

I think I had a disagreement with an anon on her that D3 is like a shitty Dynasty Warriors, well I'll stand by that, it has flashes of fun with some weapons but the reality of it is that it's pretty janky.

Less said about the Dragon sections the better, it's like Panzer Dragoon but fucking terrible, though Two's Daemon was alright, but that's more of a setting thing.

>>171348574

I thought her DLC was kinda fun, I guess I likedh er fighting style, it had more Gabriella which is always good and some of the dialogue was funny, like her matter of fact stating about 'oh you mean, fucking' and those two creations she gave retarded names (which considering they were probably people, is pretty grim humour).

The sex was probably the biggest part, but the dlc does show he wasn't completely bullshitting. He really was bothered when she went on that rant.

Its also arguable the two problems were connected. Disciples were made to keep their Intoner's powers in check, and Three got worse the more she neglected Octa.

no, THAT flower is referenced by something else entirely

>>171348349
If you had no issues with Nier, you'll be fine with DoD3. I found the combat pretty fun compared to Nier. You get weapon switching and Intoner mode, which adds fucking cool vocals to any ongoing music.

Also costumes.

>>171348629
I think DoD3 is excellent, but it is technically poor. You're right about the expressions though. Dito and Zero falling into the snow, looking at the camera and rolling their eyes comes to mind. Then again, I liked Drakengard, so what do I know.

Not far in the game at all, just got the quest from anemone to go to the desert. Should I be staying to explore the city more before I move on? From what I can tell there are no sidequests available in the resistance camp (only other quests I've done are the ones for the 2 shopkeepers), but there are little red dots all over my map. Do I have to worry about losing those, or should I come back to them later? Are there sidequests I've somehow missed, or is it normal to be moving to the desert so soon?
>>

Only sidequest relating to the tear that has a heavy impact on you if you've played the original is the Emil quest.

No need to rush, but keep going through the game until you have to defend some missiles. There is a point where you'll have to get into flight units by the ocean, and you can just ignore that to finish up any sidequests left over.

61 or 62% is the most I remember you can do as 2B before that point.

Anything at that stage can be continued later, so don't agonize over it.
>>
>>171349571
Perfectly normal. It will be a while before you hit a point where the game starts failing your sidequests due to story progress, and I dont think that most of those areas you're seeing red dots in are even accessible at this point.
You'll be spending a ton of time in the city too so you'll have more than enough chances to find anything worth finding.

The only thing that's ever done DOD1's particular atmosphere better was Baroque on the PS1/Saturn.

As far as other Taro games go, though it feels like Automata having the washed out city ruins with War & War playing, followed by the tower coming out of the ground with Rays of Light Shade is the closest they've gotten to DOD1's complete shift in tone with the red skies.

>the game never ever lets you have any kind of rest at all.
This above all else is why Drakengard 1 is the most fucked up of all of Taro's games. Even with all the insane shit that goes down in Nier, DoD3, and Automata, they all at least knew when to lighten the fuck up and crack a joke or two. Drakengard 1 is just pure suffering from beginning to end, no breaks.
Clicking that link and hearing that fucking song again actually did put me right back in that twisted state of mind you get into after playing the game for a couple of hours. This game will be with me until the day I die, like a blight on my very soul.
>>
>>171349806
Panzer Dragoon Zwei was the first game I ever played to completion as a child, major nostalgia.
I was able to emulate it later, that was fun. Definitely one of those games where art design still shines through the incredibly dated graphics.
I could never get PD1 or Saga to work though.

Never had a chance to play Orta. Not sure the best way of doing that now.
Rez Infinite scratches that itch for now.
>>
>>171350105

D1 deserves way more credit for the OST, it's like classical music put through an insanity filter.

>>

>>171350423
Baroque is a Sting game, it originally came out on the PS1 and Saturn in Jpana only (it also has a VN and a shooting game) and was remade on the PS2 and Wii and published by Atlus USA (and later ported to iOS while stealing Atlus USA's translation). The former release has a completely different, much more haunting feeling than the latter, and also has a much better OST. Both versions have immense amounts of bizarre shit you can find and the same enemy designs, and the remake gameplay-wise is a lot better.
Incidentally the remake is one of the most accessible rougelikes I've ever played. The inventory system is very limiting but there are plenty of ways to fight back against the mechanics. And you can save/load on every floor.

You can actually run past those walls without fighting them if you just run into them and push them along. Only won't work if there's two walls in the same hallway.

Long story short, yes.
Without Shadowlord around, there is no way to get pure maso required to prevent Gestalts relapse, effectively dooming humanity as a whole.

Yoko Taro's perspective with NieR is that someone might do horrible things because they believe they are right. He was kind of inspired by terrorism and stuff and pointed out how things can go horribly wrong if someone feel justified in their actions.

But if you really feel like upgrading everything I think it's just a matter of wading back and forth through the junk heap and hoping you get lucky finding scrap.

Both are great. Papa Nier is a more refreshing protagonist, and I prefer his relationship he has with Emil, but Brother Nier's character arc is more pronounced and interesting, and I prefer his relationship with Kaine.

I am glad that both exist. Leave it to Taro to take demographic pandering bullshit from the marketing people and turn it into something on par with his original vision.

They're both fine. I feel like they both have their moments where a scene or interaction comes across as a little more natural than the other.

But I do have a soft spot for Papa Nier. I like his English performance, and how he kind of subverts both the trope of the protagonist needing to be young and pretty and the expectation that he's just a big brute when he's actually really loving towards the people that he's close to.

Hmm, Brother Nier is more Taro-esque - he goes through what every male Taro character goes through and ends up a bloodthirsty killer. Brother Nier running errands and getting his bum pummeled is more fitting for a younger character. The brother/sister dynamic is weaker. I think I prefer Papa Nier though, his VA and banter with Weiss is just fantastic.

>Weight of the World
I actually quite liked it. I think all of Taro's games have had top tier credits songs, so I could see why people preferred the others, but there's something about the lyrics tie into 2B's arc, and how the tone of it changes throughout the different endings that really resonated with me.

Like hearing,
"Still, we’re gonna shout it loud
Even if our words seem meaningless" again, except this time a chorus is breaking in, and the different singers are all coming together in harmony.

>>171358502

It had about 10 billion potential partym embers, then made you use the two story members for most of the missions, then it had a reserve slot that none of the party members you booted out went to, instead they went to wherever they were, so if you wanted to reform your party you had to get them one by one every single god damn time.

Then you had only one save slot and couldn't even cancel a mission, so tough luck if you didn't tell whats-her-face to fuck off early on in that one mission, youu're hunting RNG items from the probes wether you want to or not, as soon as I figured that out I had to save before every mission, just in case.

What will Taro do next? This project was a massive success. I mean it's obvious he won't direct a mainline FF or anything like that, but I don't see how projects like Type-Next or an actually decent Drakengard game (my second favorite Taro game is actually DoD3, the first being N:A, but come on it could have been GOAT) with a real budget and a real dev team behind it. I hope they actually make more content for Automata though, otherwise I don't know what to do with this hole I have in my heart.

first and foremost I'd like more automata content, or yet another nier entry. but aside those two obvious answers, i'll be happy to see him do just about anything with platinum again, new ip or another drakengard.

realistically? who the fuck knows, im sure squenix is now very well aware taro + plat = profit, but on the other hand taro getting one big success doesnt guarantee his next effort will yield the same critical and (so far) commercial success, so giving him funding is a gamble.

idk, i just want more taro and plat, preferably with more nier content but really anything with them together would be great, match made in heaven.

Does anyone else find this hard to do? It just feels weird to go back to the status-quo after such an emotional rollercoaster ending.
I don't like the feeling of knowing all the shit characters have to go through before they do.

So, am I the only one who considers Nier Automata their GOTY? I'm hard pressed to think of any game that I have enjoyed as much in a long time, much less anything else coming out this year.
I'd even say it rivals Bloodborne as best ps4 game for me but for different reasons. (Yes I know the PC version exists, just saiyan...)

I've always liked doing it. Plus I can wear the neat YoRHa heavy suit, I really like the heels. I'd change the gaudy bronze inlay to black or silver though, it doesn't fit the YoRHa colour scheme at all. I wonder if people figure out how to rip textures, you can do it in Dragon's Dogma on PC.

>>171360623
Probably. Persona 5 may be a "better" game but nothing stays with you like a Taro Yoko game. Last game I kept thinking about for ages afterwards was DoD 3, the ending was almost too powerful.

I've associated Taro with the Drakengard/Nier universe for so long that it's kind of surreal picturing him doing a completely different series.

I'd love to see another Nier, but I'm curious what he would do if he was starting with a clean slate.

I'm not even a Tarofag, haven't played anything from him before. But his attention to detail with little stuff like how 2B moves, how she kinda stumbles when she goes through a bush that's too thick. The sand surfing, the class panty shots are handled with that they feel completely natural. Streaking through grass, sand and water is just utterly pleasurable with her.

PC fag here, so I have had issues on my aged machine. Playing at 900p with mid to low settings and the textures are passable, but what really wows me is the attention to detail. If the game looks this gorgeous(in terms of design, the leaves drifting gently on the wind, the grass, water and sand physics looking completely on point) on my 2014 budget system at mid/low settings.

And 2B and 9S's relationship and dynamic as a duo so far just makes this a game I want to keep playing.

There's going to be DLC right? I mean I went through looking at how far I could move the map pointer outside of the playable area and thought I would go there at some point and by C I was so overleveled it felt like I should have skipped all the sidequests because it felt like the final fights were too easy. and Apologetic machines what are they? Are they the DLC doors?
