>>171034658
I thought this was gonna be a freaky ninedots gif at first glance
I decided to try my hand at an advanced world gen for a good, spooky world to enjoy some adventurer mode.
I thought I was successful with one necro tower only a quick jog from a major mountain home. Until, I spawned.
Immediately, I found myself in the middle of a power struggle with dwarves fighting dwarves. Gobbos fighting other gobbos. I was lost in the chaos, unable to find a baron or someone to give me purpose. There was an insurrection underway, or so I was told.
To cut the chase, I struck down a goblin, thinking I was helping. Turns out the green gook was a fellow hearthperson, and I made myself an enemy of the established order.
Now, I'm face to face with the Queen. Should I slaughter this gobbo-loving whore, like I did all of her servants? Or leave for the tower and return as a necromancer? Both?

Honestly, I have too much hype/expectations for romance and emotional development in this game. I feel Im gonna get dissapointed, but I dunno
I said it before and I will say it again tho. The only reason we dont have waifus, is because we still havent hit that point of realism/amusement from flirting with chicks in-game, but once it happens, everybody will be boasting about their carefully designed perfect wife, and producing as many children as they canThen the other anons will make perfect copies of the other anons' waifus, and sell them to goblin slavery in their own worlds

You don't without messing with advanced worldgen, which isn't difficult.
>>171039843
I know it's not, but whenever I use it I end up overdoing it and having a world that is completely haunted and stuffed with a shitton of volcanoes.

Advanced worldgen. Crank up the evil settings and anything that says about volcanism. But just a warning: If the world is fully 100% haunted, only goblins can settle their civilizations, so try to at least leave some space to the dwarfs (Elves and humans are optional)

New anon here, it seems like I've had an explosion of wood and now my stockpile is filled with it.
Bad times.
>>171055965
you can create separate stockpiles for different things, you know
>>171056290
Yeah but I didn't think to do so and now it's too late aaaaaaaaa
>>171056592
It's not too late at all. Just modify the existing stockpile to disallow wood, and make a new stockpile that takes wood only. Dwarves will be around eventually to take the wood away.
>>171056592
>now it's too late
No it isn't. You can make, delete, or edit stockpiles at will.
>>171055965
In this picture: >>171055740 you can see an oldschool quantum stockpile which was a fucking nightmare to set up.
Nowadays I'll give you the quick breakdown.
You will need:
1 minecart
1 mechanic to build a trackstop
1 wheelbarrow (at least)
Set your oven to 425 and come back to play df.
Build the trackstop so it dumps in a given direction and set a single tile stockpile where it would dump.
= <- 1 tile stockpile
S <- trackstop dumping north
== \
== -- <- feeder piles
== /
Set up 1 tile stockpile to accept from links only, and set the items you want it to take, don't put food with barrels or caged animals, it gets buggy.
Set the feeder piles to the same items, you can have up to three wheelbarrows on one, but if you chain feeder piles you can have them each with more wheelbarrows feeding the main pile.
Set up a hauling route on top of the trackstop, assign the vehicle as your minecart, set it to the same items as the dump/feeder piles, remove all conditions from it, and set it to take from the feeder pile.
If the oven is heated up, put a roast or something in there, and then unpause df, your dorfs should leap into action hauling everything into the piles to stack on the QSP tile.
>>171056820
>>171056893
Ah, I just noticed the change setting thing.
I have made some progress, just waiting on the kitchen and still to be built so I can get to making things.
>>171057195

>>171057287
These are the current skills of my dwarfs, I have a bunch of chickens, turkeys and ducks so I'm making nest boxes and a place for them to live so that I can get lotsa eggs.
>>171057074
Why on earth would you be trying to give a detailed explanation of qsps to a brand new player? Let's pretend that he isn't just barely competent enough to dig a hole in the wall, and that anything you wrote will be sensible to him; you've just answered a question he didn't ask about stockpile management with an advanced cheating method that he couldn't possibly have a use for yet. And you did so with greater verbosity and less detail than you would've acheived just linking the wiki for it.
>>171058247
>cheating
He mentioned a problem, I gave him enough info that he can probably figure it out and learn a lot about the stockpile and hauling system, and later if they decide it's cheap feeling they can do that with knowledge behind it.
>>171058431
I'm with the other anon, I've only been playing for around half a year and still your post looks like a ton of gibberish to me.
>>171037040
This is you?
I just got this guy in my fort, he seems really good!
>>171058547
Hey I can't help it, someone asks me where babies come from, I want to know if they understand how the big bang took place, someone has a full stockpile, I wonder if they know about QSP setup.
>>171058431
No, you gave him a bunch of information that possibly useful to a player who already knows the basics of stockpile management. You gave him information that couldn't possibly be useful to him at this point, even if he does understand what you're talking about, to solve a problem that he doesn't have. You just seized on the word "cheating" for some reason, which is entirely secondary to the point. The guy just took his first steps and you're giving him advice on how to manage his stamina during a marathon.
At some point he may be looking for advice on the intricacies of stockpile management, at which point "consider qsps if you don't mind exploits" will be a reasonable answer. This is not that point.
This guy just wants to escape from his boring reality
>Where big fucking dragon exists
>Where beasts so old that even the history forgot about them, so dangerous that can bring end to a fortress in a month
>Where demons command big fucking empires of green rapist that just want to end the world
>He is bored of this and just want to dissapear
what do you think of him /dfg/?
>>171059450
I went with the cheating thing because it's absurd to cheat in a single player game, and managing big sprawling FPS-murdering stockpiles is fun for how long?
>>171060346
he reminds me of myself
Can fish be found in brooks? I set a guy to fish one but he's got nothing so far.
>>171060916

Yep, guess he''s just been unlucky so far.
Also! Newfort™ has made progress!
We have much food and drink and are focusing on giving each and every dwarf their own room. What else should I be focusing on?
>>171060398
>it's absurd to cheat in a single player game
Oh give me a break. For as long as videogames have existed cheats have existed for them, whether they were single player or not. Just because no third party is being harmed doesn't mean cheating isn't cheating. It's fine to cheat if that's how you like to play (we know you do), but don't pretend that isn't what it is, or try to pass it off as something else to a new player. Hey, maybe next you can tell him how use the melt-return exploit, or fuck it, createitem and exterminate! Better give him a detailed explanation of how to savescum, and make sure he has fastdwarf 1 1 turned on, too.
>>171061397
a drawbridge might be a good thing to put on your entrance in case some wandering fun happens by
a farm growing pig tails would be a good idea to start up a cloth industry, youll have to give your dwarves new clothes when the old ones wear through
also remember that things can path diagonally, so keep that in mind while your plan out your defenses and walkways
>>171060346
>>Where beasts so old that even the history forgot about them
How is he supposed to know about this, Anon?
Think real hard about what you just said.
>>171061397
Getting out of the dirt and into the stone layers would be a good next step. Look in the (b)uild (w)orkshops menu and see what you don't have yet, and try expanding into whatever industries you haven't started yet. Once you've got some stones around, maybe get some crafts production going. That's a fine trade good for a newb to get started with, and your first caravan should be coming around in autumn. If you haven't built a trade depot yet, you should do so soon.
>>171061769
oh yeah, you are right, Anon, but still. He lives a in a fantasy world and want to escape to ANOTHER fantasy world.
>>171061703
>>171061905
Alrighty, I'm starting on a few of these.
Also, I found a thief! I have no military yet so can I actually stop him?
>>171062318
If it hasn't already it'll run away since you discovered it. Try making some ropes (clothier's shop or leatherworks) or chains (metalsmith's forge) and tying up some animals outside your entrance. They'll usually detect thieves and snatchers before they get close enough to be a threat to your dwarves or your wealth. Also, some chains would be a good first use of that metalcrafter migrant you picked up earlier.
>>171061532
None of those things have the potential to improve FPS like getting rid of both the constant item update calculations and pathing calculations across big open stockpiles.
If I was going to suggest a newbie figure out one exploity thing to do, it would be qsp setup and use because it will keep them from getting fucked by fps death as fast, and let them focus on other shit.
Is this a stockpile simulator or... I mean, really, what exactly is harmed by suggesting they learn something to avoid fps death vs stuff that doesn't actually help there at all (though autodump-destroy-here can) and which isn't exactly difficult to learn later?
>>171062247
Goes to show that we live in exciting times where we can communicate across the entire world instantly but we still find it boring. I live in Tallahassee, Florida. You might not have even heard of it. I can speak to you instantly from my bedroom then order a 55 gallon drum of lubricant and uranium ore.
But we both find life a little boring sometimes and play video games.
>>171062247
Maybe he wants a different KIND of fantasy world, anon.
>>171063015
>55 gallon drum of lubricant
>uranium ore
How much uranium, and which would get you on a watch list faster?
>>171063081

>>171062758
Some of those things absolutely can improve fps. But that's beside the point. Follow the conversation back. I wasn't objecting to cheating, though I do think it's bad form to suggest it to someone who hasn't even been playing for two hours, especially as a solution to the problem "I don't know how to play yet". That post was specifically in response to your denial that it was a cheat. The original point would've stood irrespective of the question of cheating.

Is there a way I can make it so that a stockpile will only accept seeds in barrels?
>>171063473
Thieves will have some ambusher skill that, in combination with terrain features, can help them avoid detection. Also, even though you can't see it in fort mode, creatures have a facing and a vision cone that affects their ability to detect stealthed units. That last part is generally not something you have to worry about, though. The only really dangerous creatures that stealth around will almost always reveal themselves on purpose at the earliest opportunity. For thieves and such a dog or two tied up by the entrance will usually be more than sufficient. Later you can try putting an early detection web of tied up animals around the perimeter of your embark. You'll find out why before too long.
>>171063945
thanks it was t
>>171064268
how do you deal with it? do you really [v]iew ever single dorf then use a lot of key presses to enable two or three jobs on every singe one of your 150+ drofs? something i could do witth 2 clicks in therapist, but oh well, wishing for more features is shitpostiing too i guess.
>>171064346
Could try it the other way round just have the seed bags otherwise they just put the seeds in the stock pile.
>>171064346
no. but like every stockpile they will move items into barrels/bags/bins if they can.
>>171064346
Just so I'm clear, you're not trying to excluded seeds in bags in barrels, right? Because that's not possible. If your barrel limit for the stockpile is equal to the number of tiles in it they'll always store them in barrels. They may put the seeds in the pile first and then move them into a barrel. They won't add more barrels to the pile until every other barrel in the pile is full, and since barrels can hold a shitton of seed that may take quite a while.

>>171068853

If toady is going to do 48x48 boats does that mean he'll chage how the water works?
>Brewer and Miner have accident while I'm digging through the aquifer and drown
>Finish getting through and build coffins for them
>Dwarfs REFUSE to touch anything there
I need that mining pick badly damn it.
>>171072893
Clear the dump flag then remark it by itself, make sure there is no water on the tile.
>>171072313
Yeah, buoyancy will be a pain he said, as will loading 48x48 blocks across displayed map chunks.
>>171073014
The dump came after they refused to haul the stuff off.
>>171073079
Well, unmark the dump flag on the pick, then assign someone the mining job.
If they still won't do it, check and see if you have uh, orders > something about items from dead?
>>171073394
I did, no dice. I'll keep trying.
>>171073628
Hmmm, they can path through there right?
>>171074556
Sure can. Something broke hard when they drowned.
>>171073394
That standing order just causes death items to be forbidden. Those aren't forbidden.
>>171073079
>>171073628
Where do you want them hauled? Clothing goes into a finished goods pile, the pick will go into a weapons stockpile. If you enable mining on another dwarf they'll grab the pick if no others are available. You'll need to remove the dump designation. That needs a garbage dump activity zone, btw, not a refuse pile if that's what you were going for.
>>171074940
I have a stockpile with space to spare that accepts every category of items they dropped, including corpses.
>>171073014
Going to be awesome when portals are done. Get to follow the squad as they travel then.
>>171075004
Have you removed the dump since posting the screenshot? Are there "store item in stockpile" jobs sitting in the (j)obs list?
>>171075274
Yes.
Said jobs aren't listed on the jobs screen. The dwarves do not recognize them as there.
The underwater flag probably failed to get removed.
>>171075376
are they forbidden?
Can you stockpile discarded clothing yet? Is there even an easy way to get rid of it?
>>171075509
No.
>>171075376
There's not an underwater flag. Items are either pathable or not, and deep water stops their pathing. How long has it been since the water cleared, in game? Are dwarves pathing through the tile normally? Have you tried enabling mining on another dwarf? Tried making a new finished goods stockpile?
>>171075746
>>171075871
make sure dwarfs can haul refuse from outside.
>>171075741
Yes, you've always been able to. You just have to wait for its ownership to clear, it takes a few months. If it gets put into a cabinet it won't clear. It goes into a finished goods stockpile like any other clothing. You can atom smash it, sell it to caravans, dump it in magma, let it get stolen by keas, etc. All the things you can do with any other nonartifact item.
>>171075949
It's not refuse and it's not outside.

>>171079485
Speaking of the horrorcano, I set up a hatch and a tower up to the sky then dropped all the random shit I caught in the caverns so it blew up on the hatch while everyone hung out in there.
Then I pulled the hatch lever to drop the crap onto the tile below it so I could atomsmash it but forgot I had hooked the two levers together, so the gorechunks got flung up by the hatch, then lots of them landed on the bridge, which raised right after and flung all the gore back upwards through the fort.
I had put bedrooms up around the horrorshaft since I was intending to have a waterfall through there, and ended up having to just kinda accept the gore everywhere since it was hilariously more gruesome than I ever hoped it would be.

Skipping over the oblique answers, here is the direct explanation.
Boatmurdered was a "Lets Play" of sorts. A group on a forum passed around a save (each person getting a year in game to play then giving the save file to a new person). This was a very long time ago before multiple z levels were added.
It became extremely popular within the Dwarf Fortress community and helped spread the existence of DF to outside Bay 12 and popularize the game.
It has reached nearly mythical status in DF history and group forts are still popular games to play to this day. Once in a while even /dfg/ throws together a group fort and passes it around for a few years.

>>171084241

those tend to end up as the "age of gobbos" or "age of roc/dragon".

I currently have your comics in a folder named "Unnamed drawfag 2", but I'd like to change it to something more recognisable.
Okay so coming back to DF for the umpteenth time, I really want to revise my HARD MODE house rules.
The core tenets:
- Obviously no DFHack that isn't QoL stuff, no Workflow have to use the stuff in game
- Minimal use of exploits. The only thing I really accept is QSP.
- No danger rooms
- No traps. Cages, weapons, all of its OP as fuck.
- Pick locations based on geographical significance and not value
- Only trading allowed is from the export list. Applies to human and elf traders as well just use the Dwarf one if they don't present what they want.
Help me expand these.

No bridges, no commie block rooms, no eating eggs, no plump helmets unless you get them from plant gathering, no trading trap components or prepared meals, turn off strange moods in d_init (i.e. no free legendary dwarves), caverns must remain open, no atomsmashers, no sparring (military must consist of 1-dwarf squads), no barracks (only live training allowed).
Pick something useless to collect. Like barrels of ichor or puzzleboxes or something. Every year you must request the max number of that item, and when the caravan arrives you must purchase all of that item they bring before you're allowed to purchase anything else. Be broad enough that it's actually a challenge. Crafts are good for this because there will be many that you can't make yourself, like ones made from every possible gemstone or cloth.
That's all I can think of right now.

Guy wants hard mode, yeah? Removing the ease of acquiring legendary military dwarves is the single best thing you can do to make the game hard again. Combined with no bridges/open caverns every threat that experienced players can ignore indefinitely becomes threatening again.
>>171096456
There's difficulty and there's shit no one does because they'd be tedious and unsatisfying to do.
There are plenty of things we can all agree on are overpowered before we get into the grasping stuff like that.

>>171099036
You don't have to do all of it, the guy asked for suggestions to add to his hard mode list. The military restrictions, no bridges and open caverns alone will accomplish hard mode, moreso than his original list. The rest addresses every aspect of the game I can think of that is made easy by an overly generous or unbalanced mechanic that isn't already handled by his original list.
Food security is laughably easy to obtain, no eggs/plumps helps some with that. Cheesing caravans with overvalued goods is almost entirely solved (could add used clothes to the list). The endless stream of 0 investment legendary dwarves is stopped by turning off strange moods. Atom smashers are an exploity and easy way to deal with excess product and troublesome creatures, and not using them removes another cheese factor. None of that is particularly inorganic, on the contrary it forces you to stop taking advantage of gamey management aspects and no brainer logistic solutions.
The last bit is definitely inorganic and forced, though. I agree with that. It's just a potentially fun stretch goal to motivate your wealth production and give you something to aim for other than bigger numbers and not dying. And, frankly, I've seen hundreds, maybe thousands of sieges and combat reports and kill lists with hundreds of names and feats of prodigal battle prowess. But I've never seen a room full of green tourmaline toy boats. I know what would impress me more.
>>171101762

Dumb frogposter
For someone playing DF for the first time, do you recommend the purist approach or should I use the Starter Pack? I have 300 hours in Victoria 2. I feel like I can handle the tedium.
>>171110685
Go full vanilla, senpai. Downloading the utilities can come later once you have a basic understanding of the game. Otherwise you'll run the risk of depending on things like dfhack as a crutch, and won't be able to play the up to date versions.
Also you get to look down on the lnp peasants and squarefags!
>>171110685
purist approach. when you've learnt how the base game works, you can choose whether or not you want the mods and utilities.
most players prefer dfhack and its plugins/scripts for the added convenience, but you should at least learn how to play without them. that way you won't be left in the dark during those long periods in which there is no dfhack for the latest version of the game.
>>171110685
Starter pack. You're asking /dfg/ which is full of people who pretend to be tryhards but also use the utilities they recommend you don't.
Here's a thousand part guide if you get lost.

>>171111161
Well, there's also folks like me, who suggest using dfhack for certain things, everywhere search options, planning mode for furniture, box-select for constructions, 3dveins before you actually get started digging, manipulator for labors, persistent cursor position, plus unique bugfixing tools/options though they generally require a bit more knowledge to really use for some of the worst problems.

you're going to need Therapist for forts of 80+ dwarves and dwarfhack fixes a lot of shit other than that don't worry about it.
>>171112075
Using the wiki isn't the same thing as watching letsplays.
Hell, after seven years, I still have a tab of the wiki permanently open in my browser, mostly for modding purposes.
Letsplay tutorials are something else. They force you to learn about things in a special order. It's not an organic way of learning DF. The wiki allows you to learn about things you're interested in, at your own pace.
>>171112268
>you're going to need Therapist for forts of 80+ dwarves
>>171110685
Start vanilla, once you've got your feet under you consider other options. You're not even going to know what the various available mods and utilities are doing and if they're things you want when you start. Once you're comfortable navigating the game you'll have a better idea.
Also, the wiki is your friend. Keep it open and refer to it liberally.

They don't have to look for a graphics tileset.
It's all there in the LNP.
It simply makes things easier, you do everything in one click with it.

That's not a thing yet. What you had was a bug. It's been called a "peekaboo siege", and can happen with goblins as well. Basically it consists of a siege force showing up and then leaving either immediately or very quickly, usually before very many of them have loaded onto the map. The fact that it was with a necromancer makes it doubly certain; the only things they do in worldgen or the background simulation are sit in their towers writing books and taking apprentices. The only fucking around they do is to attack player forts, or wreaking havoc when an adventurer is around in cases where they bugged out and forgot to move to a tower.
It's probably not related to what anon is asking about.

With a bridge that size it might just be taking a long time to get the materials, especially likely if you're using raw stone rather than blocks. Also be sure you have someone with the building designer labor enabled.

It has a few threads for it, when people ask for multi threading they're pretty much asking him to split off pathfinding into it own thread.
Hes done a fair bit of optimisations to the point where dwarfs use the same path as another dwarf where they can. Though the problem is that hes adding more features and some of them are rather new like climbing and the world itself.
Pathfinding itself is the largest issue when it comes to the map but as the size of the world and the age ramps up just running the world itself would take a large toll. Asking him to multi thread when he doesn't know how to do it that well himself at this point would put the game on pause as he'll need to make sure everything works.
Pretty lucky 64 bit was pretty easy, just required him to get a 64 bit computer so he could compile it and a few other things.

>>171137937
>>171138402
Just b g like a bridge anywhere else. As long as the building designer and the mason/carpenter/metalworker can reach any edge they'll build it. They don't need access to a corner, and that won't affect how long it takes to be built. Not sure what anon was on about.
>>171140961
There's no danger that a sleeping dwarf will fall in your pit.
Using channels or ramps (it doesn't matter which) is the most efficient way, digging it out as stairs is just making extra work for you and increases the chance of a mining injury. Just make sure you designate one z-level at a time. Big deep rooms take time and patience.

>>171142451
It is a plugin, but it's in dfhack core. You need to set your print mode to TWBT and then type multilevel 1 in the dfhack console. Beware it's crashy, and that's not because it's beta or anything to do with 64bit. It's always been crashy.
>>171146237

FPS tips:
*Remove [SLOW_LEARNER] from Trolls so goblins don't use them, or accept the 10,000 in every dark fortress
*Change [ETHIC:KILL_NEUTRAL:REQUIRED] to ACCEPTABLE because required adds nothing but causes a fuckton of lag everywhere from goblin scholars and bards going full retard the instant you load the map
*Remove [LIKES_SITE:DARK_FORTRESS] from gobs, it'll encourage them to spread around more without packing exclusively into the central fort
*You can't reclaim them, but changing dwarves from CAVE_DETAILED to CITY is much less laggy, world-gen forts are clusterfucks of lag and much less interesting than cities
ok so im never ever doing that shit ever again

They're real and take part in the world provably, you can go kick over a statue and get bitchslapped into being a weresquirrel or some shit.
>>171180097
Yeah. They're most notable for letting demons out of hell, and thus also indirectly creating the goblins. They also spread knowledge of necromancy, as well as werebeast and vampire curses, among the people of the world.
This will likely change completely in the myth arc, though. Instead, the lore will then be RNG'd for each world.
In any case, when I said atheism, I meant atheism as a doctrine. You know, having non-believing NPC's, who may even propagate for their non-belief, regardless of whether the gods actually exist.
So has anyone experienced this bug lately, or did it somehow get fixed in 0.42 or 0.43?

I'm old enough that I played super nintendo when it first came out and I owned and played a nes. My brother is slightly older than me and we had video games in the house since I was like 3 and I'm 25 now so I emember walking through target and seeing tons of tycoon games, warcraft II, command and conquer and various other games in big boxes.
The only interaction I've had with even older games is one of my moms friends son tha's like 37 has a collection of mechwarrior and wing commander games. I know old text adventures that used to come in giant boxes came with books and scratch and sniff cards and stuff.

Wikipedia says the SNES was released in Japan on November 21 1990, in Brazil September 1992 and other places in between. Assuming that you turn 26 tomorrow and that you lived in Brazil, you were about a year and a half when you started playing SNES when it first came out.

>>171213182
the 2D versions didn't have actual stone layers, so all stone types were equally distributed among their type, and fairly randomly on the map.
to get the same effect, you would have to go into the inorganic raws and start to add more stone entries or alter tags to make the inclusions of ores and other stones more frequent.
http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/DF2014:Modding
it's actually very simple at first. find a stone you like, like Olivine, and then 1. copy/paste from the start of the entry to the end 2. rename the pasted entry so it has a unique name 3. change lines involving frequency or where the stone shows up in.
just be aware that there are certain map spawning rules for stone inclusions in the layer stones (limited number of ores/gems per map tile) and that includes during world generation (mineral frequency)

not really.
the only way to get the black space to look less empty is to actually alter the art file, and change the "blank space" to have some pixels in it.
dwarf fortress folder / data / art
you don't need to change all of the files, just the one you're using for your currently set DF window: 640x300 is windowed, and 800x600 is full screen
to make sure the altered file is the one that's being used, you can copy/paste any of them, rename the file, and then go to
dwarf fortress folder / data / init / init.txt
you'll see a line with [WINDOWED:] and such and then the line [FONT:curses_800x600.png]
change what's between the : and ] to the filename of the copy/pasted modified tileset.
all empty spaces now look like the tile you modified.
pro tip:
windowed tileset size is 8 wide by 12 tall
full-screen tileset size is 10 wide by 12 tall

>>171215129
Ok, I did some digging for you because I don't like having questions I can't answer.
The good news is... you can kinda change it, the bad news is, it would require dfhack and some tricks which I'm not totally certain I know how to do.
df.global.world.map.map_block_column[k].unmined_glyphs has a list of entries which seem to be z-levels, this fort is a 1x2 and 216 z deep, so there are 216 entries, and each one has x, y, and tile entries, each of which has 4 int16_t fields.
To check I went down as far as I could go and up to the top left corner, then changed the map_block_columns[0].unmined_glyph entries to x (0, 1, 2, 3) y (0, 1, 2, 3) tile (0, 1, 2, 3) and got the result seen in this screenshot.
My initial attempt at just inserting with gm-editor didn't work because I don't think it likes to push integer fields in or something, I think it could be scripted but it'd be a pretty complex job and I'm not sure how to randomize it properly off the top of my head.
>>171216514
Yeah, they're awful, I never noticed til I got a girlfriend and we went to get some swimwear and whatnot, so I'm sitting back there waiting near the women's dressing room in target wondering if the bathroom overflowed or something before I realized it was nowhere near us, and that I could hear the carpet squishing as women walked by.
You know the whole "sneak into the dressing room for sex" thing?
Do it in the mens room if you're gonna try, trust me.
>>171219783
Oh yeah, since those block columns went from 0 to 15 I think, that means there are 4 unmined tile glyphs per 16x16 square, hence the sparse appearance vs the 2d versions where it looked to have 16~24 or so.
What does it mean when the outpost liaison wants to establish my fort as a colony?
Does it mean more nobles?
And are there any consequenses for refusing?
>>171221796
Count/Baron/Duke, but you can pick one who doesn't have asshole preferences, nothing happens if you refuse besides getting asked next year I think?
>>171221531
Yup, just checked to make sure, so if anyone feels like they know how to poke at a script to do this and maybe have them scattered more aesthetically, here's the basics:
df.global.world.map.map_block_columns[k].unmined_glyphs[z].[x or y or tile].[0~3].[0~15/0~15/0~256]

It means your fort will be made into a barony and you'll appoint a baron from among your dwarves, who'll eventually upgrade to a count and later a duke. If you refuse you can't get the opportunity again but there are no negatives beyond that.

>>171246449
Yeah, the GemSet TILESET itself is fantastic and what I use actually, I used the 32x48 text set for a long ass time until I learned how to fuck around with my own sets and then noticed that 24x36 is the proper 1920x1080 fit at 80x30 tiles.
Whoa, holy crap, I misclicked and just learned you can open a text file in a reply box?
new thread or something I dunno
>>171246923
>>171246979
Erm, got confused, I use the vector curses set that the GemSet guy (Dragon dePlatino) made as a base for my version with the little translucent ground tiles and whatnot.
I thought there was a square version but I guess not?

You're over 50 posts early jackass
>>171246993
you're like 49 posts early, silly goose
>>171246979
the problem is that even the 16x16 looks fuckhuge on "native" zoom, and outside of that it looks like trash
>>171246993
You're 47 posts early imbecile
Let's make it 50 posts early!
so what, is this the new /rwg/ now?
>>171252884
Uh... no, that is why it is called /dfg/ I think?
So, does anyone here have a PC with a Ryzen or Kaby Lake CPU? How well does DF run?
>>171255905
Yes.
>>171252884
No, refugees aren't welcome either.
>171256061
I see.
>>171256975
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAnd how much dwarfs can you get on those good processors?
>>171257293
Maybe.
Personally just discovered how to fix my dwarfs that turn into the merchant glass via gm editor, thank god
That was my single deterrent for unretiring and having fun under the sun
>>171258361
>under the sun
what are you, some kind of elf?
dwarves live under the ground.
>>171258489Aboveground forts are more fun than underground forts
>171258114
I understand.
>>171255905
Apparently the Ryzen and Kaby Lake chips have big fat caches, which is the most important factor for DF outside of a big fat pipe hooked into speedy DDR4 as one would expect on a mobo with those chips, the single core number crunching and memory read/write/copy/latency on the big daddy 7700K with appropriate mobo are silly as well, but it's an awful lot of chip just for df, though it should be pretty impressive on them.
>>171258361
>dwarfs that turn into the merchant glass
>>171260174
Oh I meant merchant class.
Here have a time that I mass concentrated all my merchant classes together, while not knowing the goodness of profession 102 (STANDARD)
>>171260702
Oh, I see. I'm glad you found a solution that was satisfactory for you, but I think you've misunderstood the nature of the bug.
http://bay12games.com/dwarves/mantisbt/view.php?id=9176
At a glance you might think that's not what you're describing, but if you read the comments and look at the resolved duplicates you'll see that your issue is covered. They're not your dwarves changing profession after unretire.
>>171262324
Oh of course they aren't, a majority of them spawn in from bumfuck nowhere, but sometimes I swear that one of my dwarfs emigrate out of the fortress although I've never had that happen before and disappear, but come back as merchants, and it takes a good look to see that the legendary weaponsmith merchant is oddly familiar to me.
I may make the conjecture that pairing fort dwarfs with dwarf and human mercenaries make for certain squads to wander and do whatever once the contract for the is moot (read unretire)
I don't think my forts today exhibit such nice unintended features like that, but I stick to 7 to 20 peeps so who knows
>>171263356
I've been meaning to see if I can't make a script to just eliminate them and their wagons at some point.
>>171265727
Apparently my idle thoughts killed the thread though.
>You gesture and the thread gives out an eery groan.
>>171263356
>I swear that one of my dwarfs emigrate out of the fortress although I've never had that happen before
Oh, that's something that absolutely can happen. Once you're not in control of your fort all your dwarves behave like any other historical figure. They can move to other sites, marry, have families, pursue new careers, etc. I've never seen one with a high skill become a merchant, but I have seen legendary gemsetter fuck off to go dance and sing with elves, so I'm sure it's possible.

Reminder that "Beyond Quality" is meant to be read as "outside the boundaries of quality".
As in "we have evolved beyond your human concept of quality".

He didn't WORK in that lab, per se. Rather, it's where he was born.
>>171225643
well, if you are gonna do it, please post it
>>171273102
I'm still not sure how exactly to go about it, like I said, I've got the basic idea of where I need to make changes, but I haven't got a clue how to go about getting it randomized properly and looking good.
I guess it's up to me to bump this thread

So we bump at last....
BRRRRROOOTHER!

how do you guys can know when's the bump limit

It's 750 posts on /vg/
Post number counter on the bottom/top of the page (can't remember how it looks without 4chanx) goes red when past bump limit
Does anyone have a use for Lead that isn't a minecart?

the post number becomes italic, and says "bump limit reached" when you hover the mouse over it.

Is there any downside to covering every free tile of your workshop areas in stockpiles?
My set up in particular tends to have a two tile walkway going through workshop room and often one tile between workshops vertically like this:

Could all the walking areas be converted to utility stockpiles like containers and minor input/outputs? It doesn't slow down the passing dwarves by half or anything does it?
>In Tolkien it was language and song that had the power of magic, because that's how the creation myth worked. The whole world was sung into existence. Then you had people like Sauron and so forth in the earlier books having these singing duels.
>I don't know if that was a Finnish thing
Explain yourselves, Finns.
>>171278045
Does no one know or was my question too stupid? Throw me a bone here.
>>171278852
In the Kalevala, Väinämöinen and others weave their magick through song, music and knowledge.
The Kalevala was a big influence on Tolkien, I believe.
I'm on a glacier, if I break all the ice then completely break some rock layers and then build stuff out of ice where the rock used to be, will it be considered freezing like the surface and the ice won't melt or be considered underground and the ice will melt?
>>171278045
>>171279181
Haven't ever read anything about dwarves getting slowed down because they have to walk through stockpiles. The only issue I could see is if the stockpile is accessed regularly by many different dwarves you'll end up with traffic jams.
>>171279287
>Finns were battle rapping way before it was even invented
These people are beyond time and space
>>171279479
Yeah, I used that here, a bridge raised to keep pressurized water back, order pumping jobs, let goblins and trolls pack into the killzone along with a pig titan that attacked mid-siege, then drop the bridge and the water pours into the space where I had dug a channel from the surface down there before flooring it over just to do this.
>>171279618
Thanks. I thought about it but supposedly the reduced traffic from grabbing/dropping your barrel or bag two tiles from the center of the workshop should actually reduce traffic jam overall, and the layout makes it so a dwarf in a workshop room would rather grab something from the big container output stockpiles than visit another workshop room unless the fort is really running low on containers.

I actually find finnish culture as very interesting, and would like to learn more about them
They culture seems close to australians (no joke), but changing the tropical calm to complete hidden depression
Just see the car game that is based on 90's finland, their culture seems pretty redpilled about the nature of the world and so
There was a concept I once found on wikipedia that really talked to me on a personal level
It was the ' strenght or need to keep going forward' or something like that, it didnt have a direct translation in any other language, it was a finnish word
They seem to have a lot of stuff like that, which is pretty cool
>>171280558

All I can think of when I hear that story is the scrooge mcduck tale where he discovers that thing that produces salt, grain, and gold.
When will Toady implement proud Finnish traditions like pic related?
Embark said there's SAND on the glacier I embarked, but there's no sand at any level.
in addition after I channeled a rock salt block it turned into red sand.
What is this sorcery?

god knows how long have I been looking for this, thanks a lot anon
>>171278045
Not really. If your stockpile is much larger than necessary, your dwarves might have to make long treks across it to reach where the items are actually stored, but they're basically open floor for pathing purposes.

Radiotar banging is common tradition in communist shitholes. The finns probably imported it from Russia.
>>171285459

This.
Though we usually just used it to communicate our displeasure to the neighbours when they were unreasonably noisy.
