I'm level 35 on my second character. Using rifle spear and hunter's pistol. I was looking to do a skill + Bloodtinge build, but how viable is that exactly? I mostly use my spear's rifle to parry and I feel pumping points into BT wouldn't be worthwhile.

Should I switch out to the repeater pistol? I figure the repeater + 30-40 BT + Bone dust should allow me to pump out a good amount of damage to a boss.

This all purely for PvE.

Paarl is actually pretty easy, so long as you aren't underleveled. His limbs break real quick if your damage doesn't blow, and you can chain that together to keep him in stagger more often than he isn't. He does hit pretty hard though.

As far as the camera goes, fight him unlocked. It makes a huge difference. Same goes for almost every large boss, really.

I'm open to any arguments. I've just never seen the Powder Kegs specifically opposing the Church. Any mention of them felt to me to be something along the lines of regarding their actual weaponry as being too over-the-top, like the weapons that failed to catch on, the Gatling Gun and the Cannon both for being too cumbersome. You could use any weapon with Bolt gems apart from the Tonitrus, really. Archibald was probably to the Church Workshop what the Powder Kegs were to the original Workshop; a bunch of eccentric outsiders who made major contributions to the hunt.
The Beast Claw can work with the Tonitrus, it just takes a specialized build to do it. I've done it before, just got the point allotment wrong. Gems add most of the damage, anyway.

Almost definitely. Ludwig departed from Gehrman's techniques when they had to start hunting beasts the size of buildings, as evident by the movement to the much larger, and frankly grandiose, weapons of the Church. They also had separate locations entirely, the Church workshop built right on top of the old workshop, the abandoned one with the Old Hunter's Bone.
However, the two organizations probably had some sort of agreement, judging from the Yharnam Hunters, who feel like a mix of both, and Old Hunter Henriett, who wears traditional Workshop gear but wields the Kirkhammer and Repeating Pistol.
I also have a stupid lore theory on Henriett, if you want to hear it.

Okay, what we know about Henriett (apart from that her usefulness rivals that of Olek, who once threw a Molotov at a Hotdog) is that she wears the traditional Hunter's Set with the Top Hat, key garb for the workshop. At the same time, she uses the Kirkhammer and Repeating Pistol, both weapons commonly used by Church Hunters and bearers of the Sword Hunter Badge. She therefore has connection to both workshops, traditional and Church. She's summonable for two fights, Amelia and Ludwig.
As for the theory, I think we find her corpse. It's the one where we find the Hunter Set with the Top Hat.
The garb matches, most notably the Top Hat. She uses weapons commonly seen with Church Hunters, so she could have gotten into Cathedral Ward at some point. We also find her corpse at the entrance to the DLC, where she can be summoned for Ludwig. Furthermore, she's only summonable for two key figures of the Church, the Vicar and Ludwig, the poster boy of Church Hunters; if she has the Sword Hunter Badge, it'd make sense to destroy the beasts that were once the Church officials.

As for dungeons, you get your first after beating Bloodstarved Beast in Old Yharnam. While in Old Yharnam you will also pick up two Ritual Blood (1)s on the altar in the room with the crucified beast. Back in the dream go to the leftmost row of headstones, choose one, and make the Pthumerian Chalice following the menus on-screen. While in the dungeon you will gather more materials to make the next dungeon, which you get after beating the second or last boss. Each dungeon has 3-4 layers, most have 3, each end with a boss, some drop the next chalice (in Pthumeru you'll get Central Pthumeru, in Central you get Lower, and so on), some drop Root Chalices, these are for making randomized dungeons. You will also find some chalice dungeon materials in the main game.

Did you explore every side area? Side rooms contain big chests which have materials in them.

Also, you can redo chalices for free, you can search for them using the search function or by glyph if you have the glyph. Glyphs are the unique ID of a chalice dungeon. Go to the headstone you made Central on, look at the info on the bottom of the screen. There's a chalice ID, a string of letters/numbers. Go to an empty headstone, input that in the search by glyph and you can explore that dungeon again for free and get duplicates of all the materials.

Almost all the glyphs you can look up will be for FRC depth 5 dungeons, for farming. Only a few are there to explore because of rare wandering bosses like watchdog but again those as FRC too. You have to complete chalice, make 1 isz, ihyll and loran root dungeon with foetid, rotted and cursed offerings in each one. Then you'll be able to visit those any of those glyphs for free.

Remember, ROOT dungeons are the ones that are randomly generated. To find random dungeons to just explore for free, go to an empty gravestones, search by chalice type.

How are the movesets on the Whirligig, Wheel, and Boom Hammer. I'm going to give all 3 a try once I get to proper level (level 28 right now, pure strength build). This is my 2nd play through on a new character. I beat BB the first time using the blunderbuss and Hunter's Axe on a pure strength and high Vit build. Honestly is there any weaopon that trumps the Axe? It's 1H form is perfect for single target, and it's tricked 2H form is nigh untouchable for crowd control. Not to mention its spin to win charged tricked attack.

I just deleted my 2 testing characters. One was skill/BT build. The other quality. Centered around the Saw Blade/Spear. I come to find out the only quality weapon worth its salt is Ludwig's Holy Blade. The reach of the spear/blade are SHIT. Even in their tricked forms. Maybe I'm just so used to the super long reach of the axe? I also gave the rifle spear a try and while the reach problem was solved, its damage, even at +6 with 30 skill was rather underwhelming. If those 3 strength weapons I mentioned earlier have absolute trash move sets, maybe the Hunter's axe is just my weapon-fu?

It's ugly to look at, appears crudely made, but really shines when thrown around in the right hands. Just like me

Whirligig's tricked L2 just fucking trivializes some encounters, straight up. The rest of the moveset is heavy swings. I like the untricked mace, it's wide and heavy and fast.

Wheel's moveset is sloooow but it's very hard. Lots of people abuse the dash-R1. Tricked moveset is better than untricked in my opinion, but that requires arc.

Boom Hammer is fun, big swings and an explosion for a charged R2. Very limited moveset.

Axe is a very good weapon despite doing blunt damage which is pretty useless save for a few enemy types. Tricked mode is wonderful with it slams and wide swings. If you're going for another strength build, though, try out the Amygdalan Arm, it's fuckin great.

yea more movesets than raw damage. For instance the kirk hammer does more damage than my axe fully upgraded. But the move set is so abysmal that I'd rather use the "weaker" weapon instead for its superior move set. I didn't even see the Amygdalan Arm as a viable strength weapon. And how is blunt damage useless? I've yet to have a single issue with said blunt damage.

Also I've heard that Whirligig L2 spam while in tricked form just makes certain bosses and encounters completely nonsense. Almost game breaking.

The Amy Arm is a pure strength weapon in both forms, the minuscule arc damage is so it can't be buffed with paper or empty phantasm, that's it. Untricked is horizontal smashes, tricked has that crazy wide and fast swing, charged R2s hit three times as well as pancake enemies.

As for blunt damage, it's just that there's way more enemies weaker to thrust than there are blunt.

You can end pretty much most humanoid boss and NPC hunter encounters with the Whirly L2, it's disgusting.

almost nothing is specifically weak to blunt damage, unlike elemental damage, serrated, or thrust. thrust in particular is good on almost all enemies.

blunt is awesome PvP though since some weapons are all blunt damage and blunt gems go up to 33% or something like that. so weapons with many blunt type attacks, like wheel or tricked LHB can be absolutely devastating. Similarly the church pick is always thrust damage, and it's serrated. it's absolutely god tier with thrust gems on a skill build. Blunt/thrust is also seperate from physical. SO someone might be kitted out with good physical resist gear like the harrowed set (120 phys resist), but the blunt resist stats of that set are actually very poor.

whirling L2 with beast pellets is ridiculous on a lot of bosses. tons of hits staggers them, serrated shreds and the damage goes off the scale with beastmode.

On my 2nd testing character with saw spear, I died like 6 times because I kept over estimating the range on that weapon. It's so short, it might as well be a fist weapon.

weapons with nothing but physical damage can be converted to arcane, fire of bolt with gems. if a weapon has split damage it usually cannot be effectively converted. so things like the burial blade and BoM which have a small bit of flat arc damage for example.

generally scaling for strength/skill weapons will be much better with strength skill weapons. However they will always do physical blunt or thrust damage, whereas arcane weapons can be changed to benefit most from enemy weakness. For most regular weapons to convert to decent arcane weapons you use 2 cold abyssal radial gems (+65 scaling with arcane stats each) as well as a triangle gem for either bolt, arcane or fire type damage. This way say a hunter axe can be used with a bolt triangle to rape kin, a fire gem to rape beasts or an arcane gem to rape pthumerians.

Only specific weapons with split damage will scale with both arcane and strength or skill, that's tonitrus and moonlight sword. they need nourishing gems to boost split damage rather than abyssals. Just save you sanity and lookup how to make a ARC build before you try

I'm done /bbg/,

I have hated, learned to love, obsessed and overplayed this game. I have played Bloodborne every way I could, used every weapon in every level upgrade path possible and went through the chalices multiple times, treaded through countless NG+ cycles co-oped and pvp'd with hundreds of fellow hunters, theorized crazy lore and now the flame is gone. I have become numb to the joys this game once brought me, and not even any of the other Souls games satifies me anymore. I went back to Dark Souls and I still could remember everything, as if I had stoped playing yesterday. No amount of time will allow me to see Bloodborne or any of the other souls games the same way again.

Thanks for the memories, the memes and the dreams, it's time for me to store away my consoles and wake up. I'll do something more productive like learn to play the piano or some shit.

Two of them are usually considered harder (OoK & LtFV) and the other two easier (Fayyliures & LM). They can still be a bit of a challenge, especially as a low level. I find the easier ones harder if I'm building a Twink since Ludder's moveset is much easier to deal with. But if you have a decent amount of health while doing reasonable challenge then they should be easier, especially if you parry.

SO I went back adn cleared cursed pthu story chalice so I could invade people, btu I can't use the sinister bell, even after beating bosses. I swear this was not always the case what gives? I don't want ebin duels in sinister root chalices, I want to invade a group before they fight amy or watchdog.

Yeah I spent the lastf ew hours doing coop via SRRC and some random places in the world, very fast. I've now waited in hamlet for 20 minutes for nothing, got nothing in hunters nightmare either and SRRC has been trying for the last 15 minutes. I fucking hate invading mensis and frontier. I want to invade, not have some honourable duel, or more likely get jumped by a squad. Actually invading a group that is genuinely progressing a level is way more fun.

Same, duels can get a bit boring. Burgertown and Woods are good for Twink invading, especially the former. But it'd be nice if I didn't have to stay low leveled for real invasions. Chalice Dungeon invading sounds so fun, sadly it's so rare.
