i still cannot beat the damn trial of fools. i beat the other two first try with no problem but every time i get to the part with no floor i get my ass handed to me. I can semi-consistently finish that part but i'm left with 1 or 2 masks and no soul so i get destroyed by the jumpy fuckers. any tips or advice? I mainly use spellcasting as the nail arts are a little awkward to use on a controller.

I have a similar sentiment. From the moment you meet her, it's obvious that Bretta is socially awkward, nervous, anxious, and depressingly desperate for attention. Her only idea of what romance is like is evidently based off of what she's heard in fairy tales, and she develops an unhealthy obsession with anyone that will show her the slightest courtesy so long as they even come close to looking like a stereotypical Knight in Shining Armor she dreams about. It's clear that the only reason she drops her obsession with you for Zote is simply because he's giving her the attention she craves - if you were to challenge Zote to a rematch and kick his ass a second time in front of her, she would almost certainly switch back to worshiping your image again. Probably after adding a new entry to her "journal" about how she was almost seduced by a false champion before her White Savior came back to rescue her again. Ultimately Bretta is innocent, she's just a delusional woman with exactly the type of vulnerabilities that a guy like Zote can take advantage of. Assuming a relationship even starts between the two of them, I imagine it would fall apart spectacularly once The Great and Might realizes just how ridiculously dependent she is.

Patience.

Learn which enemies you can keep alive to prevent waves from spawning. Most of the time its the shield bearing fools. Use your dream nail to recharge your souls whenever you have a spare moment. You should always try and leave each "pause" with full health and souls. Make heavy use of your charge attack, it one shots most of the annoying bugs that will muck up your rhythm.

Other than that, just keep at it. Once you learn the waves and how to efficiently deal with them you start taking less damage and things become easier.

It's recommended that you have the Nailmasters Glory charm equipped, the faster charge lets you attack more often with your charged nails. You can do it without, but you need to be better at dodging while you wait on the charge.

Other useful charms are: Hiveblood (quite useful if you find yourself taking chip damage here and there. lets you use soul for spells which can drastically increase your odds.) Quick Focus (getting of even 1 heal is better than nothing. Just don't try to heal in an enemies face and take damage from it.)

you'll run into him organically in set locations when exploring. he's usually posted up in the "scenery room" that many areas have.

and then, one particular event will trigger him to show up at a certain spot for a final appearance. once you actually see him unsheath his nail and join you in a fight, you really only get one more sighting out there on the map.

So what do y'all figure Hornet's campaign will be like? I'm assuming the same general progression as the base game, but with different attacks and movement abilities. I'd be surprised if we aren't able to basically hookshot our way across gaps using the needle, but I find myself wondering whether Hornet will have the same spells little HK does. I imagine her "throw the needle and pull it back" and "pardon me while I flail my weapon around like a spastic Genji main" moves could work as charge attacks. I'm also curious to see if the level design stays the same or if anything will be altered to accommodate her playstyle. Heck, I'm also curious to see some of the different NPC interactions, especially with the Pale Lady whose name I forget.

Ultimately, though, I just want that hookshot move. On my first playthrough I thought I was going to defeat Hornet, take her weapon, and then gain that ability. Was slightly disappointed that didn't happen, although the dash is still a ton of fun to use on its own.

To add to that other anon's estimate, and to give you a possibly more accurate measurement: it took me a little over 30 hours to 100% complete the game on my first playthrough. I was pretty good about finding a lot of the secrets on my own, but I did use guides to find the last few odds and ends during the last two hours or so of gameplay.

This game might have ruined the Metroidvania genre for me, I haven't played many of them, but I doubt they will ever live up to HK. The unique setting and great atmosphere, the quirky artstyle and visuals, specially characters and areas, the useful-for-once map which actually shows room shapes and marks notable stuff, etc.

Drop compass for steady body if you know your way around because recoil is obnoxious but I sure as fuck still get lost after 25 hours.

Outside of cheese spell builds for certain bosses, like dung defender/spore/quick focus for lost kin or shaman stone/spell twister for the final boss, I think this is the best overall build.

I didn't use the compass, I just tried to figure out my current position by remembering the rooms around me.
When fighting the True Final Boss, I gave up Quick Focus for Shaman Stone since I couldn't find times to squeeze in healing. Spamming the Upwards Spell when I had the chance let me take her down so fast I didn't need to worry about mid-phase healing.

Shaman Stone + Spell Twister + Soul Eater Grubsong

Become the wizard you were always meant to be.
Upspell is amazing during the walljump section
Fireball is great if it pushes back enemies because it will double hit (This works on the last boss for both the tamer and the monster)
Downspell has a lot of i-frames at the end of that so try to use that to your advantage.

When you're in chill rounds, try to abuse your dreamnail to regain enough soul to heal up and get to full soul for the next round. This works well if you can leave yourself with a single shield knight or one of those blobs that the soul twisters spawn.

It's about 30 hours long if you're going for a high % run, I heard 36 bosses though I haven't counted and some are really minor, huge map, lot of secrets, characters, items, 3 spells, 3 sword arts, movement skills and really nice story and atmosphere, though that only really starts a few hours in.

It's a small team of three guys located in Australia. They sold a fairly amount of copy given the lack of follow-up from big medias, but nothing too big alas.
They should be fine financially but nothing to cheer about.

The game is pretty big, I have approximately 34h of played, but still am a few hours from the true end (and got a few other things that need to be unlocked).

You only have one weapon that you get to upgrade thorough the game, but have access to numerous spells and abilities, as well with more thant thirty charms that allow you to specialise your character (giving him more range, giving him more health at the cost of not being able to heal, or allowing him to use spells more often).

I know absolutely nothing about the devs, but they seem responsive to what people are saying. I went to the discord to complain about some charm interaction and a dev immediately responded saying it would be fixed in the next patch

Game was kickstarted. Game completion time can be anywhere from a couple of hours to 40ish depending on how slow you are/how much of a completionist you are.
There were stretch goals in the kickstarter campaign to add more playable characters, but those will be put into the game further down the line. Probably another reason to buy it if the already slow pirate scene can't keep up.

So exactly HOW MANY awful infestations is the kingdom dealing with? I count at least four.

One: Soul mutation bullshit
Two: That yellow infection
Three: That abyss black bullshit
Four: that crystal overgrowth bullshit

All of these infections appear independant from one another, and have been shown to be stackable in all cases other than perhaps soul combinations.

There's a glitch on that patch you're playing on where you might get scammed out of items in the Colosseum. Back up your save before you even try doing it, find a newer patch pirate, or just buy it off steam and transfer your save.
