You act like that's inherently bad, it's not. And you're still straying from the point, which is that the villains aren't cartoonish outside of their drastic exaggerated forms in the dungeons. Just because they don't make a rapist have any redeeming qualities doesn't mean he's cartoonish. His arc is literally based of a real person too, let's not forget.
Kaneshiro is not the important part of his arc, hence why he gets next to no screen time - the story there is about the Yakuza itself and their presence in modern Japan.

Futaba's, Sojiro's, Toranosuke's, Kawakami's, Mifune's, and Tae's are all really enjoyable and give great skills. You should start Hifumi for party swapping, but the rest of hers is pretty meh. Yuki is good for the EXP gains and has a decent co-op. The most pointless is probably Ichiko since all of her skills are related to detection, but it's incredibly easy not to be spotted in dungeons. Do every party member, since theirs are good too, and the skills they give are absolutely worthwhile.

Okay, but stop for a second and really think about it. I disagree that it RUINS the game's plot, but I can still understand what he's referring to in terms of calling the writing juvenile. What's the point in covering your ears and eyes and acting like it makes no sense whatsoever to question that style or writing and how it possibly undermines the themes?

A game that is hell bent on tackling social issues, but turns around and has some very crude jokes that poke fun at people who legitimately are at a disadvantage and have no rights or protection in society, how does that not contradict the rest of the narrative? You could tell me it's a culture thing, but the game is ABOUT contesting and putting in question a shitton of crappy things that are in the fabric of Japanese society as it is. So the fact that the writing team failed on that aspect kind of does hurt their overall credibility. It makes you question how well they really understand these topics.

Mate, I love this game. I enjoyed the fuck out of it. It's going to be my favorite JRPG title for a long, long time. But let's not act like you can't criticize this.

P5 rarely shows foreigners though, and that makes sense given where the game takes place. The few times I saw foreigners were in Hawaii, where they're not remotely shown to be bad, and the cast don't act racist toward them at all, and in a couple of NPCs around Shibuya and Akiba, who are depicted as tourists and again, not the subject of jokes.
