Not in the same manner. 美少女怪盗 certainly sounds weird, but that's the point. It's meant to sound like a shitty heroine name that her and Morgana came up with that the rest of the group think is both pompous and silly.
However, Beauty Thief doesn't just sound weird, it sounds off. It implies she's a thief of beauty, and not a beautiful girl who is a thief. Even "Thief Beauty" would be a better translation. The way she says "My name is .." is also silly, since she just says it's her, not her name - and it's literally not her fucking name.
It doesn't help that it didn't just end up being a one line gag in the final game that while poor - could just be glossed over, it's literally how the whole group refers to Haru before finding out her real identity, so you'll hear it a lot.

Given P5 went gold in May, I'd assume that's when they got it. Morgana's "go home" line in the trailer mentions a tail and that's not in the trailer, but only in the full line from the game, so I'm pretty sure they had the script at that point. Since they seem to be keeping the same lines that the trailer had, that only makes it seem more likely.

P3 was so ambiguous that some players didn't even realize the MC died at the end. I concede P4 though; they really didn't need anything and Marie's addition did make it worse since the added stuff about the Hollow Forest and her role related to Izanami doesn't add up.

Personally if it's fully voiced, I'd fully translate the text and expect the player to have enough of a head on their shoulders to work out based on the VA. Possibly italicize or embolden, etc. the text. Then they don't have to deal with the dissonance between the script and what's being said to them.

The latter drags the script quality down drastically, and again: the implications of someone who speaks English using Japanese words are so different for the opposite that I wouldn't ever go with that option.
If you're subtitling something, the voice track is a serious part of the end product, and should be treated as such. They're not so much "working it out" as they are seeing the blatantly obvious, while the latter option would require a degree of thought that's just going to drag down the experience and distract from what the line is really meant to convey. It's different when we're talking about something that's getting a full localization and being dubbed.

I guess I get your point, though I'd argue that the purpose of subtitles for an anime is a bit different from the purpose of dialogue box text in a game. For the anime, the voice is meant to be the main method of communication and the text is something additional that didn't even exist in the original, while the text box is considered the main method of conveying information in a game and the voice is considered more of an extra.

Because a lot of VNs literally have the option to enable a "cinema mode" that disables the text box for voiced dialogue.
Voice acting in a VN is considered a far bigger deal that you're making it out to be, and in both an anime and a VN it's going to have the same impact on the player, regardless of "whether there was always text."

The way of going about translating a VN and an anime shouldn't be any different, so "what the main method of communication" is means fuck all. If there is full voice acting - that's the point to consider when translating it. Anyone who wouldn't hear the voice acting in the VN is likely to not hear it when watching an anime either.
