I started like you'd expect, allying tunis and morocco, with their help you can vassalize tlemcen in one war, (allies won't want any land this way) taking their high dev land to keep them docile.

Then you gotta be lucky I guess. For me Aragon foolishly tried to take Navarra like they always do, so I waited until Castile was too tired to defend Portugal and rekt them with Morocco. England was called in but was too busy with France and Burgundy to help much. Shafted Morocco in the peace deal so I could pick them apart later. I had Tunis and Aragon allied and I guess that was enough to keep any attackers at bay. Never allied France and didn't get Ottomans until after my first war vs Castile.

After that it's just finishing up Portugal, go after Aragon too if they stay independent/don't have strong allies. With all their land + Tunis help and quantity I had enough manpower to fight Castile on my own, then it's just waiting for truces from then on.

Make sure Tunis and Morocco rival each other at the start, I was stuck for 20 years waiting for a chance to pull them apart.

The possibilities aren't very varied either, it's designed to hand unification to SP early in game, so the only reason to do it the "right way", meaning sphering everybody, is if you aren't SP.

In the end it doesn't matter either because you enf up in the same place. If you don't ally with France and do the event war against Austria, the French get cores in Savoy anyway and take it from you.

Johan is an Autist.

He does not like how Paradox is dealing with their games. He doesn't like the DLC policy, he doesn't like the casualization, he doesn't like the SWEDEN YES-tier intrusions to his historical simulators.

And yes, he privately laments on not making the games more like simulators and less like platforms for easy fun and DLC.

He's a sub-par male specimen due to his physical health, but he likes his games. He just can't do anything but go with the company's flow, he is silenced and basically acts as a lunch-time bug-tester and balancer, a face of Paradox PR and a testemant to past age of Paradox GS games.

He still occasionally plays EU2 and his earlier games, that is more we can say about the newer, more 'progressive' employees at the company.

Johan is an Autist.

He was the creative designer on Stellaris, nothing more. He had a more prominent role in EU4 as the lead for Game Design, but was heavily constrained by release schedule and Wester (CEO) influencing the development to create a more profitable platform for DLC and easy fun. Johan had an even bigger role in the development of CK2 as it's Producer for it's initial development back in 2012, and less constrained by a still transient Wester who had not discovered the perfect formula for profit. CK2, at the time, was an 'okay' game that many people could have seen being improved to be better than CK1, and more.

CK2's DLC was not developed in any way by Johan, and look at the game now.

Games previous to CK2 are either acceptable or more high up there in autistry, while Paradox was still a small (sub-40 employees) yet growing company and Johan still had a voice that was listened to.

Right, in combo with Logistics that's huge. Leadership gives bonuses to your military in general and allows them to fight more efficiently, Logistic is both defensive and offensive, leaning towards defense.
The reason I'm telling you to hold on Naval, unless you plan on dominating the med right now with your meagre income, is because you are not allowed to take Expansion / Exploration until like tech level 17 or something, which is far off.

Okay I am really confused at the whole succession fiasco going on in my game right now.

Somehow my heir immediately left my court when he turned 16 and is now the duke of Franconia and a vassal of Guy Karling (the king of like 5 different kingdoms).
What's stranger still is that he took my 2nd son with him gave him his own county, and made him a vassal.
How the hell did he inherit some place I've never touched before just by turning 16 and how did he take my 2nd son with him?

Raid literally anywhere you can and use the cash to build as many internal improvements as you can. In Mayo those are among the most important things for a state desu. Once you have roads and ports to keep everything in contact with your capital just start spamming universities where it's practical to so you can get the high education modifiers, it'll help you stay ahead in tech.

They do in some forms of difficult terrain, but yeah they don't reduce it by default. Which is stupid.

Unless you're a trade empire or are having the trade in your home node sapped I think it might actually be more profitable to not build roads anywhere except in the terrain they do reduce CE, since it saps tax income to do so, but I never really worked out whether that was the case or not.

Still, you're pretty developed and that's good. You just need to get a coastal province further west and build a port in it so you can use it to keep your autonomy down in those western territories.
