i just got a shitty ruler (2 1 1) and I'm thinking of generalizing him so he could die. Problem is my heir is currently 3 yrs old although my consort is 4 1 1. What age of my heir would be the best time to generalize my ruler?

Also, I vassalized an OPM and i got him pretty much like me 190+ and about 7% to break away. How should i annex him? Also, would the emperor ask that OPM to be returned once i annex him?

I don't get CK2. I get to a certain point where I have claims and need to go to war so I declare war. But my enemy has more troops and I couldn't gauge that beforehand (could I?) so I try to hire mercs but I'm out of money so I lose. Repeat. Guy dies. Repeat. You annex vassals through the diplomacy screen. It takes diplomatic power based off their development and goes at a rate equal to your diplomatic reputation.
You can and probably should annex your vassal whenever you can.
If it's in the HRE you will get a massive opinion mallus with everyone else in there because reasons.
I don't know about the emperor since it's your core automatically.

I'm playing Darkest Hour for the first time, as Italy. Please rate my battleplan and offer me suggestions.

The Goal:

The biggest problem I see with my plan is that it's so navally dependent: to win the war I must control the Mediterranean at all costs. While I predict taking Suez won't be too difficult (and I can close off the Black Sea with the Hellespont), Gibraltar will be an incredibly though nut to crack. If I'm not mistaken I can't even invade it navally. I must somehow get my troops into Cadiz and invade from land with an overwhelming majority. While closing off all access points to the Mediterranean at all costs is incredibly important to my strategy, I doubt I can commit the neccessary troops to take Gibraltar (or gain access to Spanish territory without a long and costly war of conquest for that matter). My plan will be at risk if the Allies keep sinking my ships (I haven't built up my starting navy, I've been committing myself to industry and getting the neccessary troops in place). So how should I deal with Gibraltar and the British Navy?

Also, what infantry doctrine should I go for? Tanks will be close to useless to me until the invasion of the USSR so mobile warfare isn't of much use to me. That leaves defensive, light infantry, superior firepower and mass warfare. Which of these best suits the grand strategy I've described so far?

All DH Italy games are quite similar. Taking suez, egypt and the levant/middle east is pretty easy no matter what you do. Then you will get bogged down in Africa as the allies start to ramp up their presence. With every province so far away and allies having 10+ divisions in each, its gonna be a real slog. Just pray the Germans can beat the Soviets.
It is stupid NOT to take mobility focus as it is the strongest doctrine no matter your troop composition until atleast 1943, then the other ones catch up.
2x3 marines sounds kinda expensive, i'd go with one and take malta, then head to suez. If you ever have the IC, naval bombers are a must, they can deal with any fleet. And make sure you have a good amount of troops in Italian East Africa.
