The Grand Lance is quality-scaling, but C scaling Str isn't bad.

If you want pure Str scaling though, Chariot Lance may be more your speed, it has A scaling Str but has a bit smaller base damage due to the bleed. Gargoyle Bident is also A scaling Str (even worse base damage than Chariot though), it's a spear and not a lance though.

>I thought with it being a ratio, that I could take items out of my inv to always be below 70% or something. So if I'm wanting proper armour (rather than leathers or garbs), I'll simply need to put points in Vit.
Only equipped armor and weapons and rings contribute to weight. Yes, absolutely stay bellow 70. 69.99 percent weight is fine, 70.1 is not.

Keep in mind that armor is of questionable value in keeping you alive, thus putting points into vitality is similarly questionable. A suit of plate isn't going to double your durability or anything, just let you take one or two more hits at best. Sure looks cool, though.

That's a vestige from when Andre was supposed to push aside the statue in firelink to reveal the path. There was no real reason to move it so they didn't. You can't actually physically go there without using a somewhat obscure glitch and even then I'm not sure you will be able to see what is going on at all. Since you fall from frampt's hole and arrive directly at the Firelink Altar, 99% that's the canon position

Glancing at the halberd movesets I suddenly remember why I forgot they could shield poke; that fucking god-awful moveset. God damn it. If either the r1s or the r2s could be reversed, sweep or poke THEN an overhead, it'd be fine, but nooo, why would you want what's essentially a really long axe to have an aoe or long-range attack on demand? Fucking ds2 and it's fucking overhead slams.
Can halberds shield poke in 3?

What it LOOKS like based off the description of Lorian's sword is that he defeated it and it retreated underground, meaning the Demon from Below is the one he beat that retreated into the ground, and there was apparently another one around. After you beat one of them the Chaos flame reignites, and I doubt know what happens after as I never saw the death animation.

>>170292082
So the flameless shrine is what can be considered the present. Normal firelink doesn't change despite the world dying and the sun bleeding out. It exists as a bubble of some sort.

Dark Firelink---Fire Linked-------Fire is close to death-------Flameless Shrine--End Of Fire/Linked Again/Usurpation Ends

Normal Firelink exists somewhere between the fire being linked and the flame taking its dying breaths. As the fire dies, everything it birthed begins to collapse as well. Not only do humans revert to hollows, the world itself begins to converge. As the ringed city shows us as well as the kiln, time/space becomes convoluted and kingdoms from ages past are haphazardly sucked together and dragged out of time (as time itself can be thought of as a product of the first flame).

The firelink at the end is collapsing to show the world is on its deathbed. There are no firekeepers, no handmaiden or blacksmth, people all linked to the shrine. The flame is also unlit and only alights due to the inherent strength (flame) the ashen one possesses.
>>
>>170292082
Flameless firelink is just future firelink, far enough into the future that the world collapsing effect parked the kiln of the first flame right outside your doorstep

No lore significance other than that, though that could change with Ringed City
>>
>>170287285
Generic worshipping altar

>>170287907
More realistically probably attempts to paint Friede and kickstart the painting again, but proper flame hadn't been shown to the loli and she just painted Friede on fire. That or previous subjects used to make a new painting were all nuns.

>>
>>170292074

And when I think of meeting gwynevere after OandS, I feel rewarded obviously for OandS and the whole journey there but in particular getting through blighttown.
>>170293126
I know desu just thought it was interesting. When you take the time to just take in and observe the world and all its details, you gain a unique appreciation for it.

If Carim is Londor the why do Eygon and Irina have "of Carim" after their names while Yuria and Yoel have "of Londor" after theirs? And why are the Carim and Londor braille tomes not only different, but so different to the point where Irina likes one and is repulsed by the other?
>>
>>170292997

Kiln is the original world. Every other world is built on top of that dimension. Every time the Flame is lit a new world is crafted to the owner's liking, or the old one is rebuilt. The First Flame is the pilot light of the boiler that keeps the other dimensions powered up. Every time the pilot light starts dying, your world starts falling apart and sucked into the Abyss, which transcends space time and dumps remnants into the Dreg Heap.

Y'know despite this point really being hammered home at this point, I'm kind of...scared for the end of dark souls.

(Yes eventually there may be a new one and bandai could get someone else to make one but those scenarios are either far in the future or not really dark Souls.)

I've invested a lot of time into this series and had a lot of pleasure. Knowing we're leaving that behind in favour of something new, something unknown makes me feel weird.

And whilst I'm aware BB is great and so is DeS, there's something special when you have multiple games in a series. A sense of home and familiarity.

I hope from doesn't disappoint with their next stuff.

I'm constantly looking for ways to one up my stupidity, so I came up with a terrible build to follow my one dream of becoming a toxin to this comunity.

Inspired by onlyafro's video, I decided that I'd find a way to poison people in the arena in ds3, tried many ways but I might have found the most obnoxious one. Introducing the tools to spread my toxic love:

1. Any knife infused with poison or inate poison damage
2. Composite bow with poison arrows
3. Poison mist
4. Poison throwing knives
5. The point down gesture (this one is key)

With these tools the strategy is pretty straight foward. Your objective is to poison your opponent, that is your winning condition, even if you lose, you won the metagame of toxicity. Use the composite bow to quickly deal poison damage with the quick shots that you peform after running/rolling attacks, you may also use the quickfire to shoot arrows while the opponent is buffing for increased toxicity. Whenever your opponent comes too close, switchto the knife and pyro glove to use poison mist as a counter measure and then proceed to quickstep histerically towards your opponent like you have rabies and spam R1. If after all this nonsense your opponent isn't intoxicated remember to throw the poison knives to finish the poison buildup and trigger the poison.

Your opponents might try to wise up and eat purple mosses, if they do, remember that you can find their profile and send rude messages complaining about the moss being op and that they are scrubs for using it. For added autenticity for your toxic build, point down at everything: matchs begins, victories, losses, the firekeeper, yourself... whatever you cna think of, point down at it, you need that extra poison that comes from that gesture.

As a bonus, for immersion, you can poison yourself in real life with watever funny looking fungus you find at your house and using dung pies at your character so you start the match intoxicated, ready to intoxicate others.

Londor may be part of the dreg heap but we haven't seen anything that indicates it is londor.

At best we have the sword of avowal everywhere including the ringed city itself. But remember that londor could have taken it from elsewhere. Like how the marriage ceremony occurs in gwyns tomb. His tomb and him aren't affiliated with londor, it's symbolic.

And seeing as we don't know what the sword of avowal originally was supposed to represent, we can't conclude it's only related to londor.

Plus the ringed city has existed since Gwyns reign, and it's unlikely the swords were added onto buildings and etched onto the walls after the citys original construction. And seeing how Londor only came about sometime between DS1/2 and 3, it's fair to conclude the swords original meaning is different to why londor is using it.
>>
>>170294413

No it doesn't. The description on the doll simply constantly reminds people to return to Irithyll. It's a base of operations, and the dolls were appropriated from the Darkmoons.

Once he found Irithyl he discovers the Profaned Capital, but he stays in Irithyl when we find him. Likely to watch over Aldrich.

Probably just the study, but he definitely found Irithyl later.
Profaned Greatsword was probably based on the Greatsword intended for Prince Lothric. Signifying his intent to usurp the rule of Lothric like he had Irithyl, everyone always implies the statues sword is based on the Profane Greatsword, but im 99% its the other way around. Sully based it on Lothrics, after all the Greatsword of Judgement is clearly meant to be an insult or icon of Irithyl\Anor Londo showing he is in control.

Has nothing to do with what he was planning, it was likely something Aldrich longed for and dreamt of but I feel like Aldrich just blobformed into a mindless monster that Sully took control of.
Everything related to the Cathedral of the Deep indicates its been usurped by Sullyvan.

Prince Lothric abandons his charge to link the flame, possibly manipulated by Sully and setting the stage for him to take over Lothric. Tree hollows, Vordt, Dancer and Outrider Knights all over.

Sully takes over Irithyl and does what he pleases with Anor Londo, and is sitting on top of the Profaned Capital, the Profaned flame likely being part of his scheme.

I honestly think he was going to fatten up Aldrich and throw him into the first flame as a sacrifice and somehow link the first flame to the profaned flame instead of humanity or just take control of the flame.

The crux of your headcanon is that the ringed city is named londor or some derivative. There's no proof of that.

He gave a city to the pygmies. The RINGED city. Swords of avowal are there but we don't know what it originally meant before londor decided to use it.

Also the item descriptions talk about the founding of the sable church by the 3 sisters. No way they've been alive since the dawn of the age of fire.

>>
>>170296410

The Ringed City is a DESCRIPTOR. NOT A NAME. All of the cities in this game have names. Londor is the same naming convention as Gwyn's cities. Londor is all about Dark, the Pygmies were the ancestors of humans and owners of the original Dark Soul. It's not rocket science.

No one said the Sable Church had been around since the Age of Fire. And if that's a crux in your argument look at Andre. Look how long he's been around.
>>
>>170296375
Considering Londo is described as a terrible land filled with thieves and shit while Ringed city was described as beautiful ruins duing the same fucking timeline, i wouldnt say its that obvious. It could be:

1-Londor is also in the dlc
2-Londor just imitated some ringed city traditions
3-They actually are the same place

The towers in the Cathedral of the Deep also resemble the Morion blade but they're not really visible from a distance. However that Church isn't in Londor.

irithyll is older than lothric kingdom, to the point it's inhabited by nothing but living shades. he would have had to infiltrate Irithyll before the lothric kingdom even existed

and on that point, he would have had to discover the profaned flame before he started fucking up Irithyll, which paints the place as possibly the oldest location in the game.

Gwyns CITY. He only named Anor londo which HUMANS then copied with New Londo. Name a SINGLE other place Gwyn named with Londo that isn't anor londo. New londo was a HUMAN city so doesn't count. So much for your naming convention.

And you know what else has to do with the dark? And with Kaathe who was the leader of the sable church? NEW LONDO. You know what new londo is filled with? Hollows. Londor is new londo ruins and the ringed city is seperate.

Also you totally said londor existed since gwyns time.

Gray Giant Judicator official description:

>A Gray Giant who has existed since the Archdragon was found. The Giant used to be a judicator, working under the Gods.

this means that ringed city is 100% linked to the gods, which explains the circlet designs present throughout the city.

as for the giant itself, check the white seance ring:

>A divine ring entrusted to the head bishop
of the Way of White and apostle to
Allfather Lloyd, uncle to Lord Gwyn.
It grants additional attunement slots.

>The head bishop of the Way of White is the
guardian of law and caste, and one of the
great royals of Thorolund.

judging from the mini-giants within the city that are weaker version of the judicator, I'm going to take an educated guess that it is the head bishop of the way of white.

>>

Oolacile and New Londo weren't originally Dark, they got corrupted. It's stated specifically that the Ringed City was given to the Pygmies, the owners of the Dark Soul, meaning the entire place is basically Dark Soul owners. Londor is going to be in the DLC. No question. It's too important a location. The Sword of Avowals is important to the Sable Church, and needless to say it's referencing this location in the DLC. Occam's Razor.

It would be pretty awesome if they retcon the Pgymy not taking part in the war against the Dragons, and the Ringed City Knights, proto dark wraiths fought alongside the gywn and his silver knights.
>>
>>170297713
Owning a dark soul and the place being dark are 2 different things.

Humans have a small portion of the dark soul, but that doesn't make anywhere they go dark. Look at carim or vilheim or new londo pre falling to the abyss.

Gwyn also left his daughter, a god with the pygmies. If trc is dark central why would he leave a god who is weak to dark there?

Plus the ringed city has enemies that fight with fire, not dark. The only dark we've seen has been in the dreg heap.

New londo was though, unless you meant abyss rather than dark

Correct.

Londor, The Ringed City:

Gifted by Gwyn to the Pygmies. Pygmies existed before DS1. The Ringed City before Dark Souls 1. Londor before Dark Souls 1. The Sable Church affiliated with Londor, but not necessarily existed at the time of the city's creation. Even if it were, it would explain how the sisters know of Kaathe, and their long life span isn't unheard of because of Andre. We don't know how lifespans work in this game. Its better to infuse with posion to reduce base damage, or just go unupgraded, the point is to poison FIRST, not kill. If the person dies without being poisoned, how else is he going to you he was intoxicated by the biggest toxin that this community has ever seen?
>>
>>170298618
>So someone who sacrificed everything to give the world one last chance
Or someone who regretted his own teachings and was forced to link the fire after he made Lothric too chickenshit to do it himself, then couldn't manage the stature of the other Lords and knew it and put up a front.

If you want to paint him as a selfless hero, cool. He's still not the hero of Dark Souls. Aldrich is literally doing Aldia's work with noble aspirations once he's an LoC, his past as a cannibal or really even if he was a cannibal still, he's the only guy who's said "hey yeah fuck the cycle" and then also said "let's do something about it".

Sulyvahn helped him with that motivation, and even if it's for a selfish reason, it's a noble cause.

Aldia is a "'good guy" by comparison, but only because he never aggressively tried to break the cycle in a way that offended the fanbase. He experimented and butchered some giants and stuffed some dragon corpses but that's all we know for sure. I listed him because I doubt anyone would accept Aldrich/Sully as an answer, since they're le bad guy for eating peniswaifu

You do realize that the age that Sully and Aldrich want to usher in is the age of the abyss, not dark right?

A true age of the dark is more like the area around champ gundyr. A deathlike silent place.

Anon, even if Sulyvahn and Aldrich weren't mandatory bosses, and they had the chance to somehow keep doing their own thing without having to cross path with the Champion of Ash, their entire plan and cult is based on a little quirk of the setting's metaphysics that completely plays second fiddle to Kaathe and HIS plans. Hell, even without any outside intervention, the Deep is ALREADY showing signs to stir into an Abyss BY ITSELF.
And nothing links Ludleth to the First Scholar at all, so that part is all irrelevant.

In the firelink after champion gundyr, the thrones with the 5 lords of cinders names are present. This implies they all had awoken at that point as we see in the opening.

The reason for the dark is because Gundyr was restrained by someone and the firekeeper with her blueberries got rekt.

So whats going on? (Yeaah yeah yeah yeah yeah, what's going on?)

What we see is or at least very close to an age of dark. The handmaiden and andre don't respawn, and neither does the firekeeper suggesting that the undead curse at that point in time isn't active.

When is the curse active? When the fire fades. So the fire isn't fading but it's also not dead. So it must be the case that the fire has been linked but flame hasn't returned yet.

But then why does the maiden reference the bells not being rung? If that's the case then the lords of cinder wouldn't awaken and their names wouldn't be on the thrones. WTF is going on miyazaki you hack.

Flame is there. There are lit candles all over Gundyr's boss arena.

Untended Graves and Dark Firelink Shrine just seem to be the last few minutes of the Age of Fire, after the sun has run out and the world is on the edge of oblivion but the First Flame is not yet dead. Perhaps it is the final moments of the precious cycle, when Gundyr was nowhere to be seen and thus Ludleth came in as a last moment replacement and served as Lord in his stead.

I appreciate your input anons. Let's discuss the coiled sword fragment

>Fragment of the coiled sword of a bonfire which served its purpose long ago.

>Bonfires are linked to one another irreversibly, retaining their affinity long after their purpose is exhausted.

This flat out tells us the untended graves' bonfire did what it was supposed to. And what was that? Allow someone to access the kiln. We see the exact thing happen when we kneel before the flame.

Ergo, someone definitely accessed the kiln and linked the fire, hence we see fire is there as you pointed out and the undead curse isn't present. But the dark is still strong, very strong. You could argue the flame hasn't had time to regain it's strength.

But how can it be Ludleth? As logical as it seems his throne is there and the throne is only there for those who have already linked the fire (lothric is an exception). If that was his first and only linking then his throne shouldn't be there...

Unless...as soon as he linked the fire and stability and light slowly returned to the world the flame created the thrones in firelink seeing as he wasn't a powerful enough sacrifice to burn for long? That's the only way I can interpret the thrones.

Basically

Ludleth links the flame
Light does not return immediately
Thrones appear for lords of cinder to relink the flame
Light comes back proper
The bell of awakening rings and the lords are resurrected
They flee from their duty and the unkindled rise due to a second bell ringing

This seems entirely possible, especially considering how linking the Fire has become a deeply inefficient process.
While in 1 the First Flame just exploded and you could more or less infer that the world came back to normal instantly, I wouldn't doubt that by 3 the flame needs a period of revving up before it try restoring them old laws of nature.

>>170303532

the thrones were built by the lothric kingdom to represent people who linked the flame during their reign. They had a royal culture focused on fire linking, which allowed them to last multiple cycles (the cycles being incredibly short at this period in time). Prince Lothric had his throne chiseled, he was meant to link the flame, and he refused to do it.

the guy who linked the flame before you was whoever the fuck is in the kiln when you enter.

It's probably a case of "it was like that in DS1, so it's like that here," but a bell tolling and bringing about some effect in the physical world is well-established. Just think of the various chimes which are used to cast miracles--what happens with the Bell of Awakening could be see as a grander miracle, summoning the saviors of the world and all that.

>Bell of Awakening in 3
>It actually seems to be magical in one way or another, but is never elaborated upon, despite the bell tower being completely accessible and even having a level there

I would just start vomiting blood everywhere if in Untended Graves you were allowed to climb the Bell Tower, ring the great bell, and that caused a giant Primordial Seprent to rise out from the darkness off the cliff Firelink sits upon.

Even if it did absolutely nothing other than sit at a fair distance from the map, staring at you.
>>
>>170304526
Not to mention that for some unknown reason bells of awakening are also present in the fucking painted world that would awaken their own unkindled.

Yet despite these magical properties you can just dismantle the bells and that's enough to stop their resurrection magic.

COME ONE COME ALL

In just three weeks the first /dsg/ thread tourney is starting. On March 25th, 2pm PST a PC tournament will be held prior the release of The Ringed City DLC.

Participants will be matched up with others who sign-up and fight for the claim to be /dsg/'s champion. The winner and runner-ups will receive prizes including Steam games and being better than everyone else who fought.
Sign-up sheet is here:

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdE5nW644n-uDkR2sLrJD--n4Nsynw2f9GP2BJOrNUBpgiBiw/viewform?usp=sf_link

For the sake of organization either your Steam ID or a Discord ID will be needed to sign-up. If using only one Steam IDs will be organized via that channel and Discord users can join the accompanying server in the link above to ensure we don't have last minute drop-outs with no explanation.

RULES:
-Maximum Soul Level of 125 allowed. Someone with CE open will be monitoring all players to make sure this rule and others aren't broken.
-The starting location will be High Wall, followed by Farron Keep bridge and ending at the Darkmoon Tomb.
-Fights are best of 3
-Each fight is 2 minutes long, the one with the most % health left at the end will win if both are alive.
-Gargoyle Flame Spear, Washing Pole, Throwing Knives, Anri's Straight Sword, Ethereal Oak Shield, Ancient Dragon Greatshield, and Fire Surge are banned.
-Only two Ashen Estus sips per fight, any more and your win will not count, initiating a rematch. Do this twice and you are disqualified
-All Regen items and spells are banned to disincentive passive shittery. This includes Sun Princess Ring, Blessed Weapon, Spells like Bountiful Sunlight, and anything infused with Blessed.
-Normal FC rules still apply such as no healing items. Fight rotation will be determined once brackets are set.

Requirements to join: Discord and/or Steam ID for organization purposes.

https://discord.gg/eNvRAh7 - Discord invite.

Well, the nature of humanity is something that has been hanging over the series since its start, so I'd say that's a safe bet. I mean, all indications are that we'll actually get to lay hands on the Dark Soul itself, or at least lay eyes on it.

We're probably going to get some insight into the true nature of the disconnect between the old gods of Lordran and humanity. Why exactly is the Furtive Pygmy so easily forgotten? Why was he (or she) never given a real standing among the Lords? Were the Pygmies given their own city as a placation or as a prison? Why did Gwyn give up his beloved daughter to them?

>We're probably going to get some insight into the true nature of the disconnect between the old gods of Lordran and humanity.

there is no real difference. lords have more powerful souls than humans, so they fade last, but that is the only distinction.

>Why exactly is the Furtive Pygmy so easily forgotten?

because he found the weakest soul out of any being, and up until the fading of the fire was a literal nobody. the only reason he had any influence at all is because, thanks to him having the weakest of all souls, he was the very first being to fade and go dark.

>Why was he (or she) never given a real standing among the Lords?

because his soul was the weakest of all souls and he had no standing among mortals, let alone lords.

The power of the dark souls is inversely proportional to the power of the flame.
When the flame (and thus the 3 lord souls) are strong, the dark soul is weak.
When the fire and the god's fade, the dark soul becomes more powerful.

That is why the end of the age of fire is the beginning of the age of man. The dark soul isn't weak because it's divided, because the first flame is divided among every living thing and that's no problem for it or the gods. The dark soul is weak when light is strong. miyazaki stated that all dark souls are whole lord souls, and there's a reason for that.

a dark soul is a great soul that has burnt out. lord souls are simply exponentially powerful great souls. all great & lord souls will become dark souls when the fire fades, and at that point become equals. all dark souls found in the game are great souls that have long since stopped burning and gone dark.

the pygmy had the tiniest great soul, and was the first being to claim a dark soul once the flame started to fade. he claimed dominion over it, the same way nito claimed dominion over death when he died.

gwyn and the other lords don't want to lose the great souls, which allow them to claim power over others, and are willing to let the world rot to keep this power.

Hmm, I may be a bit off here but am I the only one that feels like DaS3's quests are really insignificant and void of any emotion?

I mean, compare Siegward to Siegmayer for instance.

And why do they all end without any reason or consequence whatsoever?

Why did Sirris and Siegward die exactly?
>>
>>170309167
Well, no, there was still tons of stuff to do outside of the movies, even counting the prequels. Lots of implied off-screen adventures and events, the series ends well before the bad guys are defeated, plenty of underutilized characters. Exhausted nothing.
>>
>>170309842
Siegward's quest has a great climax with the showdown against Yhorm, but his death is utter nonsense.

Sirris seems to take her own life, which makes no sense because she's unkindled and can't die.

Same with Eygon. In fact, Eygon's role in the game is just total nonsense. He's there to be an extremely arbitrary quest-fail that just ends in a little fight with an NPC. If you don't trip his failure flag then he just exists until he offs himself and leaves his gear for you.
>>
>>170307724
Getting good.
>>
>>170309842
Siegward is probably my favorite NPC quest in the franchise, actually. Anri's is also really good, and Sirris' is soiled only by the fact she randomly dies for no reason other than simply it being something like her thanking you, giving you her talisman, then going back to her home now that her mission was complete. Hers is just a completely unecessary death.

Also Siegward is strongly implied to have killed himself after you left the Profaned Capital. His armor abandoned on the floor and his dialogue [it's the only instance in the game where he says he'll take a little nap, but isn't sleeping afterwards and just repeats himself] supports that interpretation.

>>
>>170311437
SoC's body was presumably just the last Unkindled to link it before you did.

Remember that Unkindled are just vessels. Even when you link the fire yourself, you're not really the one becoming a Lord of Cinder, and it's not your power that makes you worthy for the flame. You're just a surrogate body for Lothric's flame, which alone isn't enough so it needs some added oomph from recycled Lords, which you are also the surrogate body for. SoC's body was likely the same: just an unkindled who got sent off to link the fire after being stuffed full of Gods and Heroes, and now he serves as the vessel for the whole flame itself while it burns the souls inside him for fuel.

>Can it be more than one guy at a time?
Abyss Watchers burned all at the same time, but they're a special case in that they are all connected by an oversoul of sorts in the Soul of Wolf's Blood. The description says as such, their mandate as Lords comes directly from the blood of the wolf that binds them. It seems that Abyss Watchers linked the flame less by offering themselves as a group to the First Flame, and more by offering the Wolf's Blood as the actual fuel, which means they were dragged along since they're the ones who serve as its vessel.

>>170311643
If you talk to Ludleth after finding the Eyes of the Fire Keeper, he mentions having knowledge of Untended Graves, and having gone to great lengths to hide the Eyes from the world. The most commonly repeated explanation is that it's a window into the past, into the final days of a previous cycle, the one which Gundyr failed to attend.

>>170312198
Well that's the impression I get from his dialogue, that he was directly involved in the hiding of the eyes and didn't want them to surface again.

>Ahh. Found her, did we? And the black eyes that shimmer within, I see? Tis as if it were but yesterday. We did all we could to spare her from them. Much has happened since. Mayhap I should apprise thee... Of what the thin light of these eyes might reveal to the eyeless Firekeeper. Scenes of betrayal, things never intended for her ken, visions of... this age's end...
Although this rise the question of, since he mentions "we", who the other involved parties were. And it's interesting to recall that the only two entities shown to have knowledge of Untended Graves are the Shrine Handmaid, and the Queen Gwynevere.
>>
At what point in Ds2 do hexes get better than sorceries?
>>

>>
>>170311795

I fully understand that, but I'm wondering who IS he, and when did he link the fire? untended graves is implied to be ludleth, but his throne is already inscribed, and the current lord of cinder doesn't have a throne which means that his actions were done after the kingdom fell, when nobody would be around to make him one.

my theory is something like

>prince lothric refuses to link the flame
>civil war happens, prince lothric wins
>champion gundyr is awoken, but the firekeeper is dead and bonfire destroyed
>age of dark comes, untended graves happens
>unknown ashen one links the flame during the age of dark
>kingdom has already collapsed and the new age is too short and too weak for anything to rebuild
>nobody around to even attempt to link the flame
>lords of cinder wake up, promptly leave
>ashen ones wake up, game starts

as for ludleth, I feel that he was placed on the throne and had his legs cut off, a very very long time ago, and he's stuck on his throne for eternity. every time the bell of awakening tolls, he wakes up on his throne, legless. He was around to watch the great betrayal because he was on his throne at the time.

the queen isnt gwynevere, get off it with that noise

Simply put, they no longer have any reason to live.

Siegward wanted to fulfill his duty as an Unkindled, and keep his promise to his old friend Yhorm. He kept that promise, and at the same time delivered a Lord of Cinder to his Throne. So he had no more reason to keep going, and thus hollowed out and died.

Same for Sirris in both of her endings. She only wished to put her mad grandfather down, and she was able to do so. If you don't give her any more reason to live, then she goes hollow and dies. If you do give her a reason to live (to serve you as a knight), then she dies after fulfilling the last task given to her by you (to aid you in delivering the Lords to their Thrones, with Lothric being the last one).

Notice how even after countless EONS of firelinking cycles, mankind still hasn't progressed beyond basic medieval tech level?

Notice how even after EONS of this deific flame and it's immeasurable power being spread through the world, apparently available to all and discriminating no owner, mankind are still weak and frail creatures with narrow lifespans while Gods continue to monopolize its power?

Linking the Fire is a scam. It's a world that benefits the few over the many, where power neatly arranges itself time and again in the hands of those who have proven themselves unqualified to hold it.

The fire is good, but its death is inevitable. We see the age of dark in DS3. Its not a good thing, everyone just dies. Only the undead are left. Its just a world of cold and eternal night. Crops can't grow. People have nothing to eat. Everyone goes hollow and then mad.

But the fire linking gets weaker every cycle. The curse of undeath is spreading from Lordran out to distant lands now. The flame must go out and the old world must die for a new one to be born from the ashes.

The cycle can be usurped. You can steal the fire for yourself, so it no longer sustains the world, but only a select few. So maybe only you will survive this age of dark, while inflicting it on others.

You can also choose to embrace the curse of undeath, and create a horrible new world where hollow is considered the natural state of man, and the world is plunged into perpetual twilight with you as a living god.

Really, the Undead curse is only really there as an excuse to let the player resurrect after dying repeatedly. There's nothing to say that the Irithyll and the Lothric we see existed at the same point in time--the fact that the eclipse above Lothric doesn't happen in Irithyll is testament to that. In fact, it makes sense for all the business spawned of Irithyll to have taken place in the past, what with the casting down of all the old gods and such.

Aldrich was ingesting men, and thus the Dregs within them. The Dregs probably began increasing his power.
As for Gwyndolin, consider how weak he was in DaS1 alone, hiding behind illusions. When Sully came into Anor Londo with Aldrich at his side, he wouldn't have stood a chance, with no one else to help him. He was likely on his own against Sully.
>>
>>170316491
The high priestess (who is protecting the princes at first) refers to Vordt as "the vile watchdog of the boreal valley". She is later mortally wounded by Dancer which prompts her change of heart.

All the outriders in Lothric Castle are separated from the other (Lothric-loyal) enemies. In archives, one is trapped behind an illusionary wall.

Shit, there are more pieces of evidence, but I'm too tired to recollect them all.

Suleyvan sent the outriders in the intention that they will transform into beasts. He gave them cursed rings. You wouldn't send ravenous beasts to an ally.

He did this intentionally. Dancer is a descendent of Gwynn's line and a threat to his power. He hated her and made her his slave, making her a dancer and then an outrider. Then she turned into the monster we fight.

Black Hand Gotthard (IIRC) is a hunter, one of the Lothric royal family's assassins. He is summonable against Suleyvan to kill him.

Lion Knight Albert, a knight loyal to Lothric (found in the archives) is summonable against Vordt and Dancer, but black crystals out and revokes his summon sign if you murder the higb priestess. This implies he is against the outriders but loyal to the old lothric hierarchy.

The biggest thing i'd like to be fixed doesn't necessarily required Ringed City, and could be done through a patch. A complete overhaul of covenant and summon mechanics focusing on the Way of Blue, Blue Sentinels and the Darkmoon Blades, starting with the addition of Blue Orb.

Massive accumulation of Dark will make one powerful, even if it corrupts them in both body and soul. Smough dined on man-flesh and got huge; Aldrich did the same, but to the extreme. Against that, plus the badassery that is Sully, it's little wonder Gwyndolin, after perhaps centuries of growing older and weaker, got fucking wrecked.
>>
>>170317065
>She is later mortally wounded by Dancer which prompts her change of heart.
I don't think Dancer killed Emma. She's been there, doing nothing, since the beginning of the game. If she wanted to kill Emma she would have done so way earlier.

Black Hand Gottard is probably the one who did it, considering he HAS to pass right through Emma to reach the Grand Archives, which is where you find his body, and only happens after all three Lords are defeated, the canonical point in time when Emma dies.

I see anons, really interesting.
And how did Sullyman end in Irithyll exactly? That's a long road from Ariandel.
Or did Anor Londo merge with Irithyll long, long time ago thus being the exit from the original Ariamis painting?
>>
>>170317251
We still see the high priestess talk about boreal valley vordt with contempt; and we see the confirmably loyal Lion Knight summonable against the boreal valley's forces.
>>
>>170317505
Simply put, we don't know. It's somehow possible to get out of the painting, though, since both Gael and Sully manage it. Exactly how Sully wound up in Irithyll is also a mystery, but it is known that he happened upon the Cathedral of the Deep back when it was a Way of White church and corrupted it into what we see in the game. Then he went and staged a coup in Irithyll because he could, and brought Aldrich to the place so he could eat the last god therein.

Pure headcanon here: Suleyvan is of the royal line himself, possibly the illegitimate heir.

For one, he is tall like a god. Yes, I've heard the tree theory, but it was cut, so non-canon.

Secondly, the painted world is (or at least originally was) a prison for things feared and hated by the gods. Priscilla was put there and she was an illegitimate mistake of the gods.

Finally, his meteoric rise to power as theocrat of Anor Londo is just unfeasible any other way. He can't just be some nobody from nowhereville and subvert the entire theocratic realm and its religion. He needs some kind of legitimacy.

Irithyll might just naturally be a snowy place nestled in the mountains. Dunno. May indeed have some connecion with Ariamis.
>>
>>170317867
The painted world links to the real world through the physical painting AND through a mysterious way of sucking in people who wander in the wilderness looking for a new home or a purpose. (IE the followers, the millwood knights, the corvians--the corvians actually seem to be actively searching for it).

People who have no "sense of loss" or whatever the phrasing was seem to be able to leave the painted world by a similar but reversed mechanism to those who wander into it.
>>
>>170318178
>Irithyll might just naturally be a snowy place nestled in the mountains.

It certainly is. The clue's in the name: "Boreal" literally means "northern," i.e., cold.

But this raises the question of how Anor Londo went from what looked like a pretty temperate climate in DS1 to the chilly burg of Irithyll. Climate change is real, kids.

>The leaked boss names we got seem pretty lame.

I disagree, they leave a lot to the imagination. example:

>crimsonbat

flaming chaos bat that transforms into the demon prince

>snakesoul

the "soul of man", a gargantuan pus of man, multiple times larger than the carthus sand worm. it chases you until you reach an elevated rooftop, where you fight it from above.

>ruin capital king

you find a tall, desecrated king within the shattered ruins of his kingdom, deep within a deep black crystalline cavern. fighting with a longsword and a shield, and the wrath of god miracle, he tests your might. in phase 2, he sprouts angelic wings and the white halo apparates above his head, the name "darkfather lloyd" replacing "ruin capital king". Alongside his greater aggression and ability to fly, he now barrages you with divine miracles such as divine pillars of light and divine lightmass.

>motherdragon

the queen of lothric, woken from her slumber, who returned to her home city to raise her dragon son in solitude. early into the fight Ocelotte joins in, and you need to juggle both bosses through over 4 phases, which include queen lothric growing angelic wings & white halo, and ocelotte harnessing the power of blackflame.

Secondly, the painted world is (or at least originally was) a prison for things feared and hated by the gods. Priscilla was put there and she was an illegitimate mistake of the gods.
The thing about that though is that it's implied he was born there and left at a young age, sure it's "cut" but the tree that stands over Frozen Weapon was going to talk about not having a child anymore so there. He also got out of the painting relatively early so that he could stumble upon the Profaned Capital.

>
Finally, his meteoric rise to power as theocrat of Anor Londo is just unfeasible any other way. He can't just be some nobody from nowhereville and subvert the entire theocratic realm and its religion. He needs some kind of legitimacy.
In DaS1 this "theocratic realm and its religion" is nothing more than smoke and mirrors perpetuated by Gwyndolin so that brave Undead will line up and gladly relink the flame. Over time it just naturally weakened, there wasn't much for Sulyvahn to do to "subvert" it ala hostile takeover.

>Irithyll might just naturally be a snowy place nestled in the mountains. Dunno. May indeed have some connecion with Ariamis.
Early on some anons theorized that the painting started eating up the material world/just crashed open into it.

The First Flame regulares the existence of normal fire just as it regulates everything else.
The SUN is running out when it grows weak enough, other flames being able to survive after it has died would be nonsensical and a break of established canon.

The fire never truly dies, though. Which would mean typical combustion is possible -- not to mention magma and lava.

The Gods had fire in the time of the Everlasting Dragons (since they had arms and armor). Pygmies would have needed fire to survive.

the first flame is a mass of burning soul energy anon, it doesn't dictate generic fire or anything not connected to the flame.

first flame dying = all great souls and lord souls also die, leaving everyone equal. the sun isn't what it seems to be, it's not like the real life sun. the sun glows like humanity when it goes out.

Someone deciphered the runes on titanite monsters and on titanite slabs.
Line 2:
They remained and hardship set in. They found a spark (Lord Souls in the first flame) which turned into a Sun, driving away the cold/ice. Terrible trouble came (conflict with dragons). The Sun (Gwyn and his allies/army) ended this conflict.

Line 3:
This age (gods in Anor Londo) continued and began an era of wealth and plenty. Man will (or has begun to) ascend. Cold/ice will return.

Its literally the power sustaining the world.
>I think the power of the player character is understated
Its the power of the dark soul. The other gods overlooked the dark soul. The strongest took the most obviously-powerful souls, and all that was left was darkness, which only a random midget took notice of.

However, that midget exploded into Manus, who was even more powerful than the other lords; and created the abyss, an all-consuming pocket dimension of darkness.

The soul that everyone thought was the weakest turned out to be the most dangerous, and that was why Gwynn freaked out and sacrificed himself to prevent an age of dark.

I've been playing the digital version of the former and it's been running completely fine until this past weekend when it started "stuttering" with major drops in framerate and repeating sounds.
I'm not talking those extremely minor dips in framerate when you break some shit or enter a certain part of a stage, but shit 10x worse than that to the point where I have to restart the game.

you are very wrong on multiple levels.

a dark soul is a great/lord soul that has burnt out, technically speaking every great soul becomes a dark soul, given enough time, which is what terrified gwyn.

this is why the sun, comprised of burning souls having been funneled into it for generations, transforms into a dark soul after you finally let it die.

the pygmy found the tiniest, shittiest great soul, which coincidentally was also the very first soul to fade, and thus became the very first dark soul.

manus's humanity was not inherently stronger than any other humans humanity, he just had more of it. every dark soul is equal.

The pygmy is not a god. He merely received the left over scraps of the lord souls within the flame, barely anything, and became the father of man, who are shit compared to the actual gods. It's more likely he becomes corrupted (humanity goes wild) and is Manus, father of the abyss.

After all, you have to consider that the Lordvessel quenching quest only actually involves getting two lord souls, 4 Kings and Seathe are merely battles for shards of Gwyn's overall soul.

With your hypothesis, it doesn't make sense then that you burn humanity to kindle bonfires in DS1. It would make more sense to burn souls, but you don't. Humanity burns better.

Dark Souls is about the struggle of light vs dark. Light representing greatness and prosperity. Dark being the element of the downtrodden. Humanity is consumed to feed the light. Humans are second class to the gods and knights. The age of greatness is built on the sacrifice of lessers.

By DS3, the only humanity left is burnt-out embers. By the same token, the sun is fading. The constant linking is sucking the world dry and leading to another age of grey, the time before the fire.

The lord souls are the souls of the fire itself. The linking adds the essential element: the player. The lord souls still exist in DS3. They were NOT consumed. Once the fire has been linked, the lord souls can be retrieved. They seem to only act as a catalyst. They give you some sort of connection to the fire to allow the linking, but are not part of it.

That's baseless conjecture that runs purely off your obsessive and "deep" nonsense headcanon. It's very clear cut that the Ashen One is an Unkindled which can't fumble with humanity anyways. It is completely impossible for them to fuck with humanity because they are not Undead/Human, they're just ash. They seek embers to maintain a fiery state because they couldn't burn up when they were alive.

that is completely wrong.

linking the fire involves returning stolen flames to the first flame so that it can continue to burn.

humanity is burnt out ashes, you can't link a fire with ash. all the humanity is just sinking to the bottom and forming the deep.

They are a nameless accursed UNDEAD.

Embers serve the exact same role in DS3 as humanity in DS1 therefore they are logically linked in purpose.

Embers have to be more than a random piece of burning wood on the ground. Otherwise they wouldn't be expensive to buy and hard to come by. They represent a metaphysical object.

Also, look at the graphic for humanity in DS1. Now look at DS3 ember. THE EMBER IS A FLAMING HUMANITY.

ashen ones aren't traditional undead, they're souls are linked directly into the first flame. ashen ones start to exibit symptoms of the undead curse because the world reaches a point where the first flame itself has begun to fade, bringing the curse to every single being who has linked themselves into it.

embers are great souls that haven't fully burned away into ashen humanity, so you can imbibe it into yourself to strengthen what little soul you have left.

No they're not. They're unkindled ash. You know, the thing everyone in the game calls them that is notably different from being Undead for a few reasons. Hawkwood even tells you about how lowly and unworthy Unkindled are. Another thing is that Unkindled can't even be hollow like Undead without getting poked in the chest by a raving madman.

>Embers serve the exact same role in DS3 as humanity in DS1 therefore they are logically linked in purpose.
Or maybe they're just mechanically the same thing but slightly different because game mechanics aren't always the best source of game lore? Is there perhaps some deeper untapped meaning behind Chaos not being humanity based in 3 compared to 1? No, there fucking isn't, it's a gameplay rebalance since humanity was written out for the PC of 3.

>
Embers have to be more than a random piece of burning wood on the ground. Otherwise they wouldn't be expensive to buy and hard to come by.
Which is a fair point, but it brings up a question that has no answer so far.

>They represent a metaphysical object.
???

>Also, look at the graphic for humanity in DS1. Now look at DS3 ember. THE EMBER IS A FLAMING HUMANITY.
There's nothing suggesting they are. This is also not stated and is actually guided in a different direction in the Ember's flavor text. Is there some weird fucking mumbo jumbo for humanity being frail wooden traces of the actual sprite in 2? No, it's an arbitrary design change that has no explanation. Hackazacki wanted ash people for 3 but he needed to keep the humanity mechanic, thus embers.
>>
>>170322503
>embers are great souls that haven't fully burned away into ashen humanity, so you can imbibe it into yourself to strengthen what little soul you have left.
Embers serve a different purpose from souls. If souls are burning and embers are burnt out souls; then any soul should give the ember effect. But the ember effect is different.

Also, there is literally an in game item callled Fading Soul. If your conjecture were correct, it would become an ember.

Instead, souls that fade simply become wispy and tiny.

You mean that same cutscene that calls them unkindled, and then calls them Undead who weren't good enough to be burned alive in the kiln? They were Undead at one point but then they fucked up and never became cinders, thus they are literally subhumans to subhumans.
>>
>>170323032
Ash is the remains of something after consumed by fire. You were probably fated to fuel a bonfire but failed to ignite it, but instead came back, transformed into a different type of undead. Unfit to be cinder. Why? Maybe because there's not enough of your humanity to burn.

You seek embers because, being so burnt out after your ordeal, you are lacking something essential.

Anyone got any good dark souls youtube channels to recommend? Ones I watch are Limit Breakers, Otsdarva and Prod. The first 2 are pretty funny. The last one, just because he's good at PVP and uses interesting builds.

The Ashen Hollow makes pretty interesting lore videos. I like most of his theories, even if I don't necessarily buy into them. He's like a better Vaati.
Jerks Sans Frontieres does more Bloodborne stuff than actual Souls, but the amount of effort he puts into researching stuff is pretty impressive. He has a great video on the Deep and how it relates to Shinto mythology.
If you like Limit and Otzdarva you'll probably like yung maestro. His videos have the same style of humor, and he clearly puts a lot of work into his editing.
SchwaAkari makes pretty entertaining PVP videos, and he's obviously pretty damn good at it too. What I like about him is that he doesn't really commentate, but rather has annotations describing his thought process when he approaches every invasion. A lot of his tips have helped me get better at PVP, especially gank spanking.

I'm struggling through a playthrough of DS3 right now and everything about this game is pretty unsatisfying and boring. What are weapons and builds that are actually fucking fun?

I'm trying to go Pyro or something but every weapon I find is just boring trash. Might as well just get a fucking Dark Sword or ASS or literally any spammy R1 mashing shit and settle for that to be honest because apparently it's not like any weapons are actually satisfying, cool, or inventive to use. The Onyx Blade is cool (solely because it's supremely viable and has the flashy blackflame dark buff) and so is Friede's Scythe (again shares most of its moveset with regular scythes and just has the few flashy flourishes).

I want to die from boredom right now.

>viable and has the flashy blackflame dark buff) and so is Friede's Scythe (again shares most of its moveset with regular scythes and just has the few flashy flourishes).
If you like flashy weapon arts, use the claw weapons or crow quills. Also the twin katana weeb ninja swords (forget name)

You can also use dragonslayer spear or gargoyle flame spear, since they have flashy charge attacks too.
>>
>>170330373
I don't get it, in what way is this inventive or good? You have a weak substandard straight sword attack and your spear which to use its weapon art you'll make it two handed anyway. In what way is this at all interesting or "inventive"? It's just throwing two things together as if they have an unity or interesting utility together when they don't.

>>170330514
Both of these are mid-late-end game weapons.

>>170330602
>I don't get it, in what way is this inventive or good? You have a weak substandard straight sword attack and your spear which to use its weapon art you'll make it two handed anyway. In what way is this at all interesting or "inventive"? It's just throwing two things together as if they have an unity or interesting utility together when they don't.
The halberd gives me a long range attack that I use to poke at enemies with from a safe distance and punish reckless charges or otherwise zone them out. When I am getting R1 spammed and network lag not letting me parry normally, I switch to 2 handed and use perseverence to out-R1 them.

The halberd is slow, not particularly strong, and has shit tracking. It is also bad at roll catching. These weaknesses can be easily exploited, especially when facing multiple (player) enemies.

The offhand straight sword allows for a quick sweep attack with a good arc and fast one-two that allow you to hit then get out quick. However, range is short, which means that if I had only this without the halberd, we would play the "who swung first" game.

The two cover eachothers' weaknesses and compliment great, allowing best of both worlds and a variety of tools to fit the situation at hand.
>>
Why did they refuse to bring back the Silver Knight Straight Sword?
>>
>>170330895
P.S.

Straight sword is best when used one-handed R1. R2 is slow, easily parried and inferior to halberd R1. Two-handed is also slow and uses more stamina.

Halberd has a horizontal sweep r2, but is slow as balls and also easy to parry. Halberd is equally good one or two handed. That is part of the reason why it is in mainhand. Other reason is so that I can run and slam it down to have a long range chase attack. Other reason is so I can dodge and L2 for a horizontal sword sweep. If the sword were in the other hand it would do a roll-stab. Sometimes you have multiple foes nearby that you see an opportunity to sweep. Pokes are too focused in a small area.

You can probably tell, I chose this setup to do invasions and need to deal with being outnumbered by nubs who will try to rush you and r1 spam.

For PVE just use literally whatever you like. Anything is viable as long as you can dodge and parry.

It feels like you're basing all of this on the sun imagery in DS3 endings, but that could just as easily represent the coming age of man as the Dark Soul becomes the new ruling power. I don't see anything suggesting that the other great souls turn into dark souls.

It takes all the way into the end of DS3 for Gwyn's rule to finally be put to rest, to be replaced with something new.

I'd like to be optimistic too, but with how bad the way so many weapons scale and the mostly useless state of non-refined infusions it seems like they don't care or it was intentional.

I'm not even asking for much, I'd just be happy if I could do pve stuff with more weapons without seeing a massive drop in potential AR just because a particular weapon has terrible scaling and infusion potential for no good reason.

I never finished ds2, only recently did I decide to go back and finish it and apparently my latest save is at upper earthen peak .

One of the main reasons I rarely do fancy magicks in Souls is because of that dreadful early game. Your pic is actually the first idea that came to mind for me but am I supposed to just bear with being a dark orb shitter for a while until I can get that weapon? If that's the case then what should I spend my upgrades on to make belfry farming easier? Is it alright if I blow through titanite and souls on this particular backup weapon until I get that weapon?

>Ludleth was a guy that knew how to transpose souls
This should be obvious. Soul transposition is described as a forbidden art, but when you give him the thingy he says you might as well use it anyways. Ludleth used soul transposition to make the power of heirs and lords into artifacts he could use. He himself wasn't powerful, but he was armed to the teeth with the power of gods.

The ring he drops says
>One of Courland's transposed wonders. Derived from the soul of a Soulfeeder.

If it was made in Courland, then it's impossible for Ludleth to be a soulfeeder. It is possible that he killed a soulfeeder, though. I'm kind of disappointed that we can't fight one either, it'd give a pretty good gauge of Ludleth's strength.

I'm not sure that Refined being strong at 40/40 is necessarily bad. If you do a playthrough from the start then Refined isn't particularly good for most of it. That it outperforms other options when you have 2 stats softcapped is kind of the purpose of the infusion. We could maybe have a few more weapons like Sellswords which are skewed towards DEX to the point where shifting points from STR into something else feels worth it, but I think From's perspective would be that the game isn't designed around SL120.

Bleed/Poison infusions are laughable though sure.

Personal wishlist would be making WeaponArts good enough to consider using across the board. Then fiddling with damage scalars on a few moves so you don't have things like Straightsword 1HR1 or Curvedsword 2HR1 where a single move is so much better than the rest of the move set. If the Partizan could deal damage that would be neat too.

At what point should I stop leveling int and faith for a ds2 hex build? I'm aiming at progressing through new game cycles, so eventually I'll be level 42069, but there must be some point where the diminishing returns are so great that faith/int aren't worth investing in, right?
>>
>>170340558
Gwyn, as well as Gwyndolin, is a "god". Not a creator, but an immensely powerful being. There is no apparent creator god in the soulsverse, the closest thing would be the first flame and that's not necessarily sentient

That implies the painting woman was a firekeeper or at least wears their clothes. She didn't tend to a bonfire however as her set is white unlike the dark one anastacia or our firekeeper in DS3 wears.
>>
>>170340641
Damage returns for hexes get a huge dropoff after 30/30. However, the spell Affinity is only at 2/5ths of its maximum power at that point, and you need 60int for its full damage. Some of the hex spells also have disgustingly high requirements like Dark Dance needing fucking 30int/60fth, so either farm the hell out of spices or pick one half of the spells and stick to them (staff hexes never need more than 60int/30fth, chime hexes never need more than 30int/60fth).

Technically, by like 2 AR over five months ago. No, it didn't help.

>stop the quality build meme spam
Nope, quality is still too good.

There are other viable builds now too, though. Pyro is right up there with quality, pure INT isn't as good but is still strong and completely distinct from the others, and I swear it looks like half the people I run into are trying to make dex/int builds in the hopes that aquamarine dagger ends up good. Which it probably won't desu, split damage weapons always have problems.
>>
>>170341537
Didn't Vaati say that he sounded exactly like Patches ?
>>
>>170341650
Quality was a weapon upgrade path in demon's souls. It made your weapon scale evenly with strength and dexterity. Quality builds were builds that raised strength and dexterity evenly to use quality-infused weapons.

>>170341650
Yes, high quality memes. It comes from DeS, where the quality infusion would make the str and dex scalings of a weapon equal. Generally used to describe 27/40 (2handed in ds1/3) or 40/40 (1handed or ds2) builds
>>

Rouge makes the CCS better. If you want to be cute check the Rotten Ghru Curved Sword and slap rotten resin on it. The damage on a DEX build is actually solid.

>>170341858
It's not that it was never discredited, it's that it was never proven. That's how theories work, you need actual evidence to support them before they can be called theories. Technically speaking, nothing in DaS1 outright says he was the first human or the furtive pygmy, it just says he's a "primeval man". "A", not "the".

The only remotely contradictory evidence was revealed in Vaatis the ringed city video. The great envoy banner decription tells us gwyn gifted the ringed city to the pygmies (plural) who found the dark soul.

That would imply there are multiple furtive pygmies.

Of course I fully believe that Manus was the furtive pygmy up until this apparent retcon.

>>170341953
But short of a literal declaration, what more do you want to believe manus is the furtive pygmy?

DS1 was intended to be a one and done game, and the dlc was supposed to wrap other unexplored areas up.

Manus causes the abyss to arise when is humanity goes wild whilst other humans only turn into snake dragon pus of man like gundyr.

His soul was so large it scattered and formed the shards of manus and remember this is DS2 which made a big deal about the fragments of the lords souls having an effect on the land; see seathe,

Finally he's called primeval man. Primeval being 'of the earliest time in history'. Who was the first being we could call man? The furtive pygmy.

I have a feeling Miyazaki will close the meme-circle and have him regain his memories when he touches that Purging Monument he's looking for. And then we fight The Furtive Pygmy.

The burial gifts are all items you can get very early in the game. None of them are unique.

Some of the transposed weapons are good, some are terrible. Transposed weapons only upgrade to +5, and thus are generally considered to be twice the "rating" they show, so a +1 transposed weapon is like a +2 normal weapon.

NG+ just scales enemy HP, defense and damage. It lets you get multiples of limited items, pick different "one or the other" choices like like weapon to make out of a boss soul, redo NPC questlines you may have fucked, and get more powerful versions of rings.

>>170342157
>DS1 was intended to be a one and done game
Horseshit, Fromsoft had a contract with Namco for three games before development on Dark Souls 1 ever began. It was planned as a trilogy from day one. Also, you went from "the other games aren't lore relevant" directly into using lore from DaS2/3 to support lore from DaS1, so I don't think you believe that either.

Anyways, there are two things to consider here:
>dark existed before manus created the abyss
>primeval does not mean first

If we're using DaS2 lore, then the Abyss is an unnatural distortion of dark much like Chaos is an unnatural distortion of flame. Distorting the dark isn't something you'd need the first pygmy to pull off, since any random hexer can manage it in DaS2.

Primeval refers to a period of time, it does not refer to a point of origin. A primeval human is among the first humans, not the first human. Neanderthals are primeval humans, but that doesn't mean they were the first humans nor does it mean we're even technically related to them (not all modern humans have neanderthal dna, it's mostly just europeans).

Technically speaking, the theory that Manus is the furtive pygmy is precisely as legless as the theory that Solaire was Gwyn's firstborn. Also note that evidence for who the firstborn really was didn't turn up until fucking DaS3, a whole two games after he was first mentioned. So, yeah, let's not jump to conclusions.

Shoot it till you get a gift. Then go back to the stairs and shoot the dragon once. >EXPLAIN WHAT LIFEHUNT ACTUALLY FUCKING IS
They already did that in DaS1. Lifehunt is Priscilla's signature ability, and it kills the shit out of living things. It's actually so good at killing life that it's almost as if it actively hunts down life on its own, if we're going by her dagger description and the fact that her scythe will lifehunt you if you try using it too much. Also, her dagger has an occult rating.

In other words, it's dark. Lifehunt is dark, enemy of light and life. It pursues living things of its own volition, is super effective against gods, and in DaS3 it deals dark damage.

Basically, yeah. Even Darkdrift only does chip damage through shields, and nothing can defend against Darkdrift. Strong magic shield adds 45 stability, so if the greatshield had at least 65 stability before he buffed it that gives it 100 stability which is literally infinite. The shield will literally take zero stamina loss from everything, on top of SMS blocking 100% of all damage.

It's not any of those things though. It's "slightly better bleed than a regular-ass katana/knife". Do you have any idea how much living shit doesn't give two fucks about bleed at all? That there are even divine enemies who you can't bleed for shit? How is that the antithesis of all life? Why do the gods fear a mediocre weapon on a weak boss? The scythe itself doesn't have the occult rating so it can't be that. It also can't be Dark because humans are living and they're sure Dark as fuck. The miracle is Aldrich's inspired imagination, clearly not Priscilla's ability, because she sure as fuck doesn't heal herself in the fight.

I know the answer is "cut content", but it still bothers me as to what Priscilla's ability was originally supposed to be. At least the scythe was fun.

Meanwhile, the secretly amazing faith meta is actually lightning storm, heal aid, and lightning stake.

Storm and heal aid have the same animation. Cast storm to chase them away, then aid to score a cheesy heal. If they try to rush in after a while, trade with lightning stake and then heal more. If you're getting whooped, spam lightning storm around the pillar for ten million years so they can't get to you without a wall piercing attack.

Depends on your purpose
Longsword and Lothric Knight sword are good if you want access to a thrust and the normal WA. LK is slightly longer in exchange for slightly less AR
Dark Sword is longer than either of them and the highest AR, but it lacks thrusts, good R2s or a good WA
and Gotthards is the longest but has low AR and relies on the fact that it's a paired weapon to be effective, meaning it has much less synergy with a shield

It's all of those things, description says as much. Description says lifehunt is the antithesis of life, therefore it is the antithesis of life. There's no arguing this fact. Priscilla's dagger uses lifehunt and has an occult rating, which is a more than casual connection between the two.

>Do you have any idea how much living shit doesn't give two fucks about bleed at all?
What living things? Pretty much every enemy in DaS1 is undead. The only actual god we fight is Gwyndolin the Dark Sun, Gwyn is fucking bacon by the time we find him. Undead are a product of dark and are treated as hostile abominations by all the kingdoms of living people. Undead get rounded up and shipped to Londor, which has settlements specifically for undead.

In DaS3, the description for Dark Blade makes it perfectly clear that hollows are not the friends of living things. The description praises hollows and curses all life, indicating a distinction between the two. Multiple descriptions in DaS 2 and 3 talk about how dark spells actively pursue life to the point that this is considered a trait unique to dark, such that Logan's Homing Soulmass spell is said to be toeing the line a little too close despite not actually.

So, yeah. Lifehunt is clearly dark.

Intelligence requirements are unchanged, you still need enough INT to cast the sorcery even though all your damage comes from Faith. So, they're kinda shitty at lower levels since you're dumping an extra 10-20 levels on top of having 60fth just for scaling.

That said, if you want your Faith build to cast a few sorceries and actually do damage at range instead of having to depend on the stamina and FP hog that is Sunlight Spear, it's your best option and actually not all that bad.

With Gwyn/Witch they split their souls between their followers. The daughters of chaos didn't find the light soul, only the witch of izalith did.

Here the wording is that multiple pygmies (and pygmies have only ever been used to reference the furtive pygmy) found the dark soul. They found it around Gwyns reign and before things started to get bad which implies they found it in the intro when all the other lords found their souls.

Ergo, multiple beings found the original dark soul.

Like actually what? I want to know what her ability actually is, because all the game says is "it's bad and kills things", and you're telling me "well duh, her ability is that she kills things".

Lifehunt is represented as a slightly higher bleed rating in-game because Priscilla herself is cut content that was un-cut at the last minute. That results in things like boars, plant monsters, various demon, and drakes, to name a few being immune to Lifehunt, as an artifact of the system.

I definitely wouldn't be surprised if it had something to do with the Dark, but DkS1 describes it as a kind of special ability that actively does something, and as irrelevant as the question is, it has nagged at me forever what it's meant to be.
