They have up to three slots. Those slots can be pre-filled with non-removable decorations that could not normally be crafted and that give combo skills (for example edgemaster, which gives honed blade, which is a combo of attack up large and sharpness+1). Weapons followed the same rule. Similar garbage with gore magala in G rank. The only ways to fight G rank gore are as one of the monsters in the 5 monster Advanced: Monster Hunter quest or through guild quests/expeditions. And once a gore magala guild quest has leveled up enough it becomes chaotic gore so you'll need multiple gore quests if you haven't gotten all you need by the time it switches to chaotic.

What is the point of the HH?
Even with the buffs, in online play I feel like I'm picking a joke weapon.
Why would I not just use a hammer, trap the monster to guarantee a KO, and then actually do meaningful damage?
Why would I not just use a HBG and stagger the shit out of whatever we're fighting?

I hope the HH gets buffed in MHXX. It's a cool weapon, but it just feels so underwhelming.

Most things die faster to pierce 1 unless they're just absurdly weak to element. Think Glavenus, Plesioth, Cham.
For elemental guns, all you really have to look for is if it RFs Pierce element 2.

no HH genuinely doesn't do much damage. Corner horning makes HH increase rather than cut times but an HH that sticks to the monster is one of the most valuable weapons in the fourth slot in a 4-man (assuming it has the AUL song) because it exhausts and KOs the monster, boosts the damage of everybody else by 20% AND adds its roughly 1/2-2/3 a high-tier weapon of damage (meaning it comes out to ~110-125% of a high-tier weapon on a team full of high-tier weapons). That was only for the first couple of months, and GS was only ahead by like a second. IG pulled out way ahead later on, presumably when more people got good at it. GS is extremely simple and probably the easiest weapon to get good with, and has also been in the series in basically its present form since second gen so a lot of people were already proficient with it day 1. IG was new in 4th gen and is considerably more complex than GS, and for optimal play requires the most complex comboing of any weapon (x-x-a is all you need to play competently and usually outclass everything but GS, and gets the best dps over an extended period, but knowing different combo starters and finishers and which combos make the best use of openings of various sizes is essential for optimal IG times).

The conclusion I've come to from what I've heard is that it's decent but not really Monster Hunter except early on where it's like second gen MH. Looks like the runs on atwiki are a few seconds faster and use hellblade. Until he breaches 6'54 that isn't really solid evidence of anything.

That said amatsu's axe has water, so I guess that does show that vs monsters that are weak to water it's probably slightly better or at least equal, and naturally the best TAs with any blast weapon are going to be those where they get good RNG and blast procs more than usual.
