Protip. You only need damage to kill shit. You can hunt naked as long as you never get hit. Any weapon and as such any armor as well can and will work as a result. It's just that do you want hunts to last ~10-15 minutes? Or are you OK with a 35-40 minute hunt? You can play sub-optimal and still clear/beat the game. But let's just admit that no one likes the idea of taking 30+ minutes in a hunt because you wanted to use a cool looking set of armor and weapon.

These are the best of their respective elements and they all kind of need Sharpness +1/2.

Alatreon Star has a good chunk of natural white and Hi Frost Edge can probably work well with Blunt.

I'm got really burnt out on the most recent western MH (Generations) and I don't really like the direction the series is headed. XX just looks like more of the same shit dialed up a notch.

I think they need to go back to the roots a bit, stop going in the "CUHRAAAZY" direction and maybe try a new mechanic.

Maybe they could put more emphasis on having each zone feel like an actual ecosystem. With observable food chains that go beyond "eat this stages herbivore when hungry."

I think an open world monster hunter is a dumb idea but maybe having some sort of "continuous hunt" mechanic where you can travel to different zones and interact with monsters at different times of day while having a day/night cycle and real-time encounters. Surprise a nocturnal monster when it is sleeping during the day for an advantage, drop by small trading posts for supplies without actually ending a mission, and so on.

While it depends on the execution, the thing is that there's always going to be one style out of few that people will default to for a given weapon. Then again, not everyone uses the mathematically best weapon for each game, so I guess there's that too.

That all said, what is probably the best way to go about it is to have two styles with them each favoring a different way to play a weapon without resorting to style-exclusive mechanics like Aerial/Adept/Brave.

It's a difficult subject.

I was against them, but I bought Gen and enjoyed it. They're fun, and add alternative options that we've never had before.

The problem is, MonHun has barely evolved in 13 years. Obviously, the core concept should stay cemented, but look how long it's taken to implement QOL changes (see: all new additions in XX).

MonHun just feels rehashed with every new release, and Capcom don't seem to be putting much effort in (because it still sells), but I feel it's time for a proper main title release packed with new features and some more effort from Capcom.

MonHun is similar to COD. Two fanbases, older players who want to see main titles back, and other players who accept the new gameplay transitions.

Hard to say. Most would say lance but playing that safely while actually doing damage requires a lot more skill and effort than playing safely with, say, SnS; But SnS's shield needs skills to not be fairly garbage (it's a good safety catch even without though, block things you can't dodge and dodge things you can't block and that covers everything you wouldn't be panic diving anyway). The other thing with lance is you have either protection or mobility, not both. And if you're selecting a weapon for safety SnS is a bad choice because unlike CB and lance it doesn't have any kind of counter or automatic guard during animations, you choose safety or dealing damage with SnS. With CB you don't have to choose but it's a lot more complicated than literally all the other weapons.

Maybe bow? It has high run speed unsheathed, it doesn't have to be very close to the monster (though if you get too far away or too close for that matter arrow damage drops, so be wary), and its attacks don't lock it in place for a long time like LBG, so it's pretty easy to not get hit by just staying away from where the monster is attacking and shooting it to punish it. You'll have gunner armour though which means if you do get hit you take substantial damage.

If you're playing Gen prowler has the most survivability but you're lame if you use it.

GL is very weak and kind of hard to play safely and also has weird rules (you can only dodge, not block, immediately after poking, and can only block, not dodge, immediately after recoiling from shelling). Lance is better at both blocking and dodging and with its counterattack can combo a thrust into a block instead of dodging out of a combo. Note that lance and gunlance both have back/sidesteps though, which is something a lot of people have trouble getting used to.

I'm unsure how to spend vials in 4U for CB, I'm only using them on supers and sometimes ultras when the monster is trapped/sleeping. Should I bother with the A attacks in Axe mode? So far all I do is get Red Shield, get 5 vials, use Super to drain vials, rinse and repeat.

If your AED KOs the monster your highest DPS is to do the x upswing and then the a doubleswing and repeat, then use another AED to go back to sword mode when the opening is over. You usually only SAED if you have spent no more than one phial, have red charge build up on your sword so you can go straight back to red shield AND you get a big opening, or when you're pretty sure it's going to be the killing blow.

That's for TA-optimal play though, the way you're doing it now is actually fine. I like using SAEDs to knock monsters out of the air, it's like if gunlance wyvern fire was actually good.

AED is the super where you smash with the axe, applying three phial bursts for the cost of one phial and then go back to sword mode, which you execute either by pressing x+a in axemode when you don't have red shield, pressing a three times in axemode or holding back on the circlepad and mashing x during a SAED.

SAED is the ultra where you press x+a in axemode with red shield and do a big round swing followed by a heavy axe smash that sends out a huge shockwave, draining every phial and your shield buff. It gets more powerful the more phials you spend on it.
