So four chapters into Binding Blade I noticed a disparity in the difficulty between it and the 3DS games. While I'm getting fucked by terrible growths, the game hasn't been so abhorrent in its map design or unit efficacy just yet; there's a fair degree of challenge and every unit seems useful starting off. Whereas the latter two games seem designed in such a way that you're immediately punished for any mistakes you make, and units are far 'squishier' and actually good units are few-and-far between and soon outclassed by more story-relevant characters.

Am I just a shitter and Binding Blade is easier than the 3DS titles?

Cecilia won't be good until you have enough horses with Cavalry buffs to make a full party, and even then only Eldigan has a significant stat total among them, mostly thanks to Fury. That said, Cecilia and Gunter are free units, and Ursula's coming up, and alternatively if you get one of the Dire Thunder mages in a roll, they both come with cavalry buffing stuff.

Robin F will be okay for dealing with enemy cavalry once more of those besides Abel become commonplace, Nino is a more general nuker though and common enough to get multiples for +x later on, she really needs allies with Hone/Fortify buffs to get her most effective use.

Robin M is useful against swords and Takumi, Kagero has bonus damage against him so that won't completely shut her down, and his res is bad enough to make dealing with other mages a chore.

Healers aren't worth getting to 5 stars if you have other units to rank up, if you're using Olivia in arena you can keep her on a defense team once she learns dance and Hone Attack 3, for good offense scores in arena with a dancer/singer you'll need to max them out though.

Eldigan doesn't need a cavalry team to be useful with his high attack and defense, though he welcomes any kind of speed buff(which Ryouma provides).

You can probably make due with Azura as your only blue if you're running two reds to cover against greens, and Ryouma's probably enough to deal with Takumi, though Eldigan can run in to finish him off if necessary, so a green mage of some sort is probably your best bet, though right now it seems you're stuck with Cecilia for that, who's not even fast enough to double Ephraim with a speed buff, and her Rally Res is Redundant with Azura's Fortify Res. Hold that spot for a Nino, Julia, Merrick, or Fae roll unless you want to upgrade Anna or something in the meantime.

Reinhardt will probably do fine in the meantime for dealing with low res blues, the high res ones will usually take enough damage from a red that acts twice. Effie is also a good option with her high stat total, Wary Fighter for avoiding doubles, and Azura lets her get in two movement or two deathblow enhanced attacks a turn.

RobinM is mainly for dealing with Reds and Takumi, and that current team setup has more than enough stuff to deal with those. His -Res won't make much of a difference since Fortify Res cancels it out and he's already kind of weak to magic.
