No, it's just disappointing
>>
>>169847141
Soulsborne is one of those series where what bosses keep fucking up to aside from few bosses that are genuinely easy or hard varies wildly.
>>
>>169847141
There's some minor elements of RNG involved in how much of an asshole some bosses decide to be at times. Plus a lot of stuff comes down to your build and weapon of choice or stuff like a boss moveset clicking with you much quicker than others.
>>
Is the Lothric Knight Greatsword good? Those Lothric Knights are fierce that use them.

Makes me wonder if I should level Vitality to use it and be able to fast roll still. I usually just think Vitality is totally not worth it because it's pretty much just for fashion souls,
>>
>pick up DS1 again because RtD died pretty quick
>get to lower burg
>those dogs

Holy shit, I forgot how bad the dogs in 1 were compared to every other souls game.
>>
>>169847492
It's inbetween, given that you were retarded enough to ask about a type of spell casting that was nonexistent in DaS1 and broken in DaS2.
>>
>>169847141
This is perfectly normal. Pontiff is either very ez or very hard. When you beat him, it'll be effortless because you got a good pattern and stayed ahead of his positioning.

And Abyss Watchers is really the same way. If you get a bad run of it in either phase you're pretty toast; that boss is relentless when it feels like it. Getting into the proper rhythm of both fights is more important than actually being good, and it's hard to reorient yourself if you got tilted off the rhythm.,
>>
>>169847870
DS3/Bloodborne dogs might be worse because no poise.
>>
>>169847860
It's good for paladin builds. That's pretty much it.
>>
>>169847870
I never really had an issue with the dogs in 1. Even in Capra they usually are far less relentless than the ones in 3 or BB that ninja dash everywhere
>>
>>169847141
People have different experiences with each boss depending on their play styles, mentality and of course, luck. Good example of this for me was the Fume knight in Dark Souls II, he's regarded as one of the hardest bosses in the series, but I thought he was fairly okay, whereas I died countless times to Elana.
>>
Why doesn't Sully just feed everyone to Aldritch?
>>

>>

>>
>>169848213
"Dark" magic in DaS1 was literally just a mix of Physical and Magic damage, and even then it took a DLC to make that happen. It didn't properly exist until DaS2.
>>
>>169847492
Affinity and Great Deep Soul are good. Dark Edge can be viable if you're not shit. ALL the Dark Pyromancies are great but especially Black Flame.

>>

>>
>>169848986
Dark Bead and dark magic in general was extremely OP in Dark Souls 1 because the damage was very high in that game compared to the others. Yes, you can deal more than 6k with Dark Bead, but you can also deal 4k with pyromancies and even normal weapons in that game when using hyper mode, something that's literally impossible to achieve in either 2 or 3.

Also, the damage may be high, but it isn't even as close to be as versatile as the dark magic in Dark Souls 2.
>>
>>169848815

You really have to try harder, you're not nearly as entertaining as the poison-buffed Spotted Whip guy.
>>
>>169849401
>Also, the damage may be high, but it isn't even as close to be as versatile as the dark magic in Dark Souls 2.

Not just the dark magic but a lot of the spells in ds2 were very versatile with lots of utility
>>
>>169848815
I tend to find the Deacons to be far more chaotic than other bosses, so as a result it's easy to overcommit on aggression then either get surrounded by fat deacons, or hit by one fireball too many or by the giant dark magic ball that the Archdeacon can throw at you. And considering I tend to not level HP at all or just very little until my combat stats are properly in place, it just makes for the kind of fight where something can easily go wrong, which ends up being more dangerous to me than fights like the Nameless King that are heavily reliant on a single target with attack patterns you have ample time to recognize and deal with.

Who said anything about a challenge? The point was that in a speedrun it would be highly beneficial to obtain a tool that would allow you to run in and potentially one-shot a boss and save more time, even if that tool has to be picked up along the way.
>>

>Why I can't barely deal 300-400 dmg with those even at 50 int

Also the damage of it was nerfed some iirc.

You don't seem to understand the purpose of a speedrun.

Why would someone go out of their way to fight more bosses and run through at least two or three more areas, in order to maybe save literal seconds against Seath and 4kings?
>>
>>169849735
Archdeacon shoots a dark magic ball?

Early half of bastille, hunstmans copse, no-mans wharf, maybe heides tower of flame.

Generally 0-300k is early game tier, 300-600k is mid-game and 800k is drangleic castle and beyond. Over 1 million is stuff like DLC content.
>>
>>169849657
>>literally the only one that's actually a challenge out of them is Seath
What. Not even him but Seath is the easiest of the bunch and speed run isn't about being hard, it's about being fast.
>>169849685
Well, yes and no. First because sorcery and pyromancy are shit in dark souls 2 compared to 1 and second because 80% of the spells in 2 are from 1, as opposed to Dark magic, which has so many new things introduced.

Dark Magic is the only really viable type of spell in 2.

Dunnel marrying Priscilla is a horse shit meme because people in these threads make everything up and everyone else swallows it.

In the first place, the original Japanese doesn't even use "spouse" "wife" "lover" or anything with romantic or marital context. It translates to "companion" or "partner". Both the Japanese and English are gender neutral. The only "evidence" is that they stuck his literally who phantom ass in an out of the way easter egg area because then didn't have anywhere else.

In the first place, people only come to the Painted World after they have experienced great loss and lost their purpose in life. Pontiff is the only exception since he was born there, and so then he promptly left because it wasn't his style. Dunnel's buddy would have had to have died first before he showed up.

I'm going to be doing a playthrough of DaS2, and actually want to beat it this time. I should be getting the three DLCs as well. I'm on PS3.

Any tips on how to make a character not look fucking awful? The body types are all bad to meh, at least during character creation. Average or slim (I might use Raime's chestpiece)? Also, how do you make a decent looking face, as it seems to be nearly impossible to get it to be good. My first character -seemed- good when making it, but turned out to have a giant chin and nose.

What about skin color? I made a character that was meant to be somewhat pale once, then it turned out to be completely white with red blotches. This time around, I'm looking at a slightly tanned character. This is trying to factor in the game's lighting.

Maybe I should just buy soft serve on PS4. It's better, but it's more expensive and my friend is borrowing a PS3 copy and we were going to do a co-op run sometime.

My mind is in shambles, help me out here /dsg/.

after like 6 years now since DaS came out, I've come to feel DeS is better than DaS. It feels fresh and more unhinged in its designs, whereas DaS was about refining down what they felt were the most approachable aspects, and then running out of time to actually finish the game. Despite the open world meme people praise as the second coming of jesus, I find DeS to feel more adventurous and open-ended than DaS

Why would you even do that? Sen's Fortress is closed until you ring the two bells, then when you go to Anor Londo you get the Lordvessel.

how I feel about DaS3 is that a major part of what it did with the game is just reintroduce removed DeS design concepts like mana and faster combat which is still slower than DeS (which I think is still mechanically the fastest in the series, despite it's slow-paced bosses, I haven't bothered to put DeS and BB side by side yet.)

back when DaS1 came out one of the biggest complaints by far was how incredibly slow the player is compared to DeS. in DeS you move and attack like a rocket

Any help on character creation would be nice, as I'm not too familiar with how the lighting engine would fuck with skin color, nor which build would look best with certain armor. I assume average is fine, as I do want to switch things up on occasion.

For example, if the Heide Knights in Heide's Tower of Flame are farmable, I'll try and get that by using the Champion covenant to have them always respawn. I just hope to not inflate my SM.

even DeS had warping, DaS1 was an experiment in removing it and apparently they didn't like it.

>>169857559

I lament that DaS has become too action oriented, the bosses are becoming cookie-cutter. DaS2 is a horrible perpetrator of this, you can just pick and compare bosses at random like fume knight and sir alonne, who follow strict design guidelines and are almost interchangeable. there's nothing really unique about any of the bosses in that game, and it gives them zero weight.

>>169857836
This is why I can't stand /v/. Retards can't interpret simple sentences or just pretend to misinterpret what you say so that they can look better in the argument.

Not having fast travel early on made you actually explore the world and created a connection between you and those areas since you had to actually know them and how to get to them. Then, when the areas start to get way too far away and you have to backtrack to some places, they introduce fast travel, as it would be boring to go back to so many places you already explored by foot.

Not only that, as they became extremely lazy in connecting the areas after fast travel was introduced since the beginning.
>>
>>169857931
I'm also not a fan of the pandering or the linearity but the mechanics in DS3 are way ahead of DeS and DS1&2. There are definitely things that I would change if I could but after playing DS3 I find it hard to go back to the older games.

>>169858102
>Anyone else feel like the more RPG shit they add the worse the games get?

No, because this is a series of ARPGs. IMO one of the best things that DS3 did was bring luck back.
>>
>>169858102

souls games were better when they were more RPG than Action, instead of trying to straddle this weird middle-road line in the design. bloodborne is great because it's not trying to be both, it takes the combat concepts of the souls games and builds an action game around it.

BB > DeS > DaS1 > DaS3 > DaS2
>>
>>169857604
3 is ruined by the fact that it feels like a Dark Souls 1 rehash. It basically lives in the shadow of that game.
>>
>>169858397

>There are definitely things that I would change if I could but after playing DS3 I find it hard to go back to the older games.
Well, I do think that's a amazing game. But I can't like more than Dark Souls 1, simply because that game had way more identity and didn't felt like pandering and more of the same, unlike 3. At least Demon's Souls feels like a new game, whereas Dark Souls 3 feels like a Dark Souls 1 expansion, except without the attention to detail and interconnected world.

>>169858881
Because it's an amalgamation of most of the best things from the previous games. For instance, 3 has 2's estus system and omnirolls but unfucked free aiming and aiming on roll attacks. 3 uses a magic system that's like DeS's and has charge attacks and uses passwords and made covenants their own item like BB and kept the 4 ring slots and 3 weapon slots from 2. Powerstancing isn't a thing anymore but IMO the dual weapons had plenty of work put into them and are an acceptable substitute.

There's not enough rng in the game for 'luck' to be meaningful. With 99 luck your discovery rate hasn't even doubled from baseline, while discovery can be quintupled with items alone. Not really, they are BOTH skill based games and RPGs, which is why their combat is so popular.

Also, the skill in Dark Souls is more based on knowledge than pure reflexes, although reflexes help, it's much more about ''should I attack now? Should I roll now? Should I block now? How do I handle my stamina?'' than ''I am able to roll, attack or block now?''

Not him, but:
Dark Souls lore really is pretty generic, a lot of it is just repurposed stuff from King's Field. For instance, KF4's flooded city and New Londo have just about the exact same story, the only real difference would be that Artorias would've died at New Londo if it followed the KF storyline a bit more closely.

FROM's pretty much been making the same game for 20 years and occasionally remastering it.
>>
>>169862662
Farron Followers somehow wandered into it and got trapped, or wandered into it because they had gone hollow and just never left due to that. Milwood knights I'm not sure, might be a similar situation.
>>
>>169862662
Millwood Knights lost their sacred tree, then went on a pilgrimage and ended up inside the painting.
The Farron Followers, I'm not quite sure. I don't think it's ever directly addressed.

Probably went wandering the same way as the Millwood Knights did, after the Abyss Watchers burned into into the Flame and they lost their actual purpose as an organization?

Dark Souls obviously took many inspirations from Berserk, but I find unfair to compare to a work that's not even vidya, it just happens to have a vidya with its name.

>>
>>169863096
I'll agree to that standard. It means Nioh isn't generic, nor is Dark Souls generic either.

Yeah, replying to a post that was basically saying ''lol souls is generic'', when that's a claim that goes against majority's opinion. If you want to make a point that is contrary to the opinion of most people here, the burden of proof will fall upon on you, it's pretty simple.

>It's similar in one aspect

That's not the only thing they've repurposed Anon.

When a company can keep throwing stories/enemies/etc. into a series of games with the same theme I'd call those things generic.

You don't say. Lord of the Rings is based upon a bunch of myths and legends as well, I guess that means it's generic and Tolkien is a hack.

Also, you are blowing the similarities between King's Field and Souls games out of proportion and I doubt you even played those games. As someone who actually played some of them, I can safely say that the similarities are too far and between.

You don't. Yggrasil is one very holy tree that links all the worlds of norse mythology. It has almost no similarities with the structure of the Souls world except for the fact that trees are involved.

>Side story from DeS, probably based on something else originally.
Again, one side reference in a game from the same company. That's not what "generic" means. Pic related is an example of a generic story.
>>
>>169862662
Lore-wise, the painting acts as a home for those who have been rejected by the world, or who no longer have a home of their own anymore.

After the Abyss Watchers Linked the Fire, Farron fell and was consumed by a poisonous swamp. The Followers, who no longer had a duty or a home, wandered into the Painted World.

The Millwood Knights, after the Ethereal Oak rotted and tied, were left without a home. So their captain led them on a pilgrimage and they ended up in the Painted World.
>>
>>169863692
>Lore-wise, the painting acts as a home for those who have been rejected by the world, or who no longer have a home of their own anymore.
This actually explains a lot. Jeremiah was an exiled king dabbling in Chaos pyromancy, he was the perfect candidate for the Painted World. Velka has always felt like an outcast, so the presence of those crows and the Pardoner's set makes all the more sense.
Then why in removed content did Shiva flee to the Painted World after stealing the Chaos Blade? Because he was a stranger in a strange land, likely exiled from the Forest Hunters?

>Demon's Souls
The story of a man against an evil force, traversing lands and slaying demons to put an ancient god to sleep, but will he choose to put him to sleep or become his servant?

>Dark Souls
Humans are linked to fire, as it starts to fade, and the old Gods who once rule over them try to keep it lit, men loose their humanity (literally and metaphorically). A man fights to keep his humanity and to light the fire again, giving the world a little more time or killing the flame to bring about the fireless age with him on top

>Dark Souls 2
A man chosen by fate to link the fire refuses to do so, choosing not to participate in the senseless cycle that traps humanity. He is then tricked by his queen herself into failure. Meanwhile, his brother believes he can break and escape the cycle. The protagonists hunts down the crows of past kings decieved by similar evil queens in hopes to cure the curse, or to transcend it.

>Bloodborne
A man exores a city on it's last night before total damnation, discovering the city's vast past and present story, its secrets, the hubris that led to the decaying ruins it is today and to uncover the current organizations and their secret plots to become more powerful, and to unmask the real puppet masters behind of all of: godlike trascendential beings. You fight The city's hunt in search of truth and to become more than a man.

>Dark Souls 3
As fire keeps fading not even linking the flame seems to work. The flame is become weaker and, when past linkers are called to re-light the flame they refuse their duty. The protagonist most bring them back to their thrones, to their duty. If they won't come willingly he willhunt them down and bring their ashes.

If you actually played the games and knew their stories you would know each game has different plots, themes and goals for the main protagonist.

Changing the details doesn't change the overarching story, the main theme behind every game you listed but BB and DS3 is a quest to preserve the MC's humanity and even then each of those has an ending where you do just that. What that means changes from game to game but that's pretty much all there is.

>>169865420
Are you confusing storytelling with story? Yes, all these games are about warriors traveling to a distant land to fight monsters. But all games have you do that for different reasons with a different story with different themes and different endgoals. Just because you learn the story the same way across all the games doesn't mean it's the same story.

>the main theme behind every game you listed but BB and DS3 is a quest to preserve the MC's humanity

>you either kill yourself or become an edgy evil lord in dark souls1
>same with dark souls 3
>bloodborne is about becoming more thant human

Only Demon souls and Dark Souls 2 are actually conserving your humanity.

That's very vague and you know it. Going by your logic, every medieval story that involves elves, dwarves and dragons is generic just because it involves those things. The only reason From games share the similarities you listed is because they fit the gameplay of their games better.

Arty's sword is actually a recurring theme in FROM's games and the dude who had it in KF4 was similar to him but was guarding a water temple. He has a dark buff AOE resulting in hyper aggression just like Arty.

Only if there's 1 character and that character does the thing I described.

>Are you confusing storytelling with story?

No, I just don't think that minor changes to a story constitute a new story.

DS1 is about preserving your humanity. That's your goal before you figure out that linking the first flame will kill you and that's the point of taking the dark lord ending. You can choose not to but you play through most of the game intent on breaking the curse. Yuria's questline leads to the same result in DS3 and BB can be interpreted the same way depending on which ending you choose.

Unironically my favorite area in the base game. Lots of verticality. I like that there's many paths on the way down as well. Having Prowling Magus as a mini boss at the start was a neat little addition, and that big army camp clusterfuck at the very start of it is fun to just run into chaotically. Spiders not like fire in SotFS is a nice touch as well.

>Shaded woods
I like the area after the foggy bit. Lots of little nooks and crannies. Otherwise yeah it kind of sucks

>Iron Keep
Is this a hated area? It's really pretty standard. The only thing that sucks is the next level aggro range at the start in SotFS

>Castle
I REALLY think that it harkens back to endgame areas of retro SNES RPGs. You have a host of previous enemies and bosses (I count Ruin Sentinels, Pursuer, Executioner Chariot, Gargoyle, and Dragonriders) from earlier in the game as almost a "test" before you head into the end game. Maybe not all that lore friendly but as a little boss rush I really like it.

That's where they should have iterated to create new systems rather than being purely derivative. Make light characters BB fast, and make heavy armour slow you right the fuck down but actually protect you and DON'T have a dump stat to offset the weight. Make armour something other than just fashion for fuck's sake. Give the player a choice other than which scaling path they're going to invest into and how many points they have to dump to not suffer a penalty for carrying what they want to. The action/adventure elements are what makes souls great, not the RPG ones.

>>169866386
Don't be facetious, anon, they're very similar to begin with. All I meant was to pare back the stat system to the minimum needed and focus on making all equipment very distinct so finding a new weapon is "what the fuck does this thing do holy shit I'm excited" rather than "hey look it's another straight sword to dump in my item box".

playing through nioh really makes me appreciate the what souls does right.

A lot of the levels so far are pretty short and really don't have major gimmicks aside from having shortcuts. I'm hoping the level design gets more interesting but I just finished the ninja house so I doubt it.

I think my biggest problem with the game is that the lacking enemy variety doesn't do the games great combat any justice. once you figure out a strat for an enemy you're set and you never really get any new tests.

>think my biggest problem with the game is that the lacking enemy variety doesn't do the games great combat any justice.

That was my takeaway from the TLC beta. All the mobs had only three moves or so; the only difficulty was that the yokai can all OHKO you. The rest is just acclimating to the controls, and then getting as complicated as you want with combos and shit.
>>
>>169868353
>once you figure out a strat for an enemy you're set and you never really get any new tests.

This was my experience in the demo and it's why I didn't buy the game. Also, human enemies block way too much so you end up doing a whole lot of guard breaking to grab people. I liked fighting monsters but people were boring.

Nioh seemed neat but I'm not getting it until it's on sale.

>It's the only souls game that doesn't suffer from any glaring faults

Enemy poise worked sporadically, too much of the content was optional, Chalice dungeons kind of sucked, weapon variety was lacking, the DLC is over-hyped with only the second section being phenomenal, and going back to having to grind for healing items was pretty balls.

What does being able to warp between bonfires have to do with exploring the world or not? What do you mean by exploration and why would being able to warp make you not explore?
That seems like such an absolutely retarded argument to make.

If anything not being able to warp would discourage exploration as players would have less easy access to each specific part of the world, leading them to going through an area once or twice and then never coming back as it gets too far away from the hub. Being able to warp to each bonfire lets you instantly go back any area that you've accessed no matter where you're at. How the fuck does that not encourage exhaustive exploration of every area?

>>169858686
If it's not fucking boring than why do you care if you can warp or not?

Think of it like this: At it's core, Dark Souls is more like a metroidvania game than an open world game. If you don't allow warping, it's more like Super Metroid, where you're forced to explore and backtrack, but unlock shortcuts along the way, ideally Dark Souls 1 style. If you allow warping, it's more like Symphony of the Night - not that it's a bad game, but once you unlock the warp network there's a lot of the castle you don't see anymore. In extreme cases you get Dark Souls 2 area design, with multiple points of no return that require warping.

Personally, I prefer DaS1 style, but your mileage may vary.

if you're invading and using something small and dinky, probably health. you need enough health to survive three straight swords spamming r1, and you could maybe do with less considering you may not get a lot of attacks off in sequence too often.

stamina does get underrated though; your ability to maintain pressure or even secure kills depends on stamina, and sometimes just a bit of green makes the difference.

Yea, I get that. And outside of going "Ooooh neat I can see demon ruins from here!" I don't give a fuck. I really don't care about a consistent, contiguous game world. I don't give a fuck.

You know why castlevania was good? No, it wasn't because the whole game world was connected (it wasn't). It was because each individual segment was expertly thought out and fun. When you obsess over a contiguous game world, it can ONLY come at the expense of each individual segment, as it all has to fit into a whole. Maybe it doesn't affect every single part, but it doesn't fucking make it one bit better.

> If you don't allow warping, it's more like Super Metroid, where you're forced to explore and backtrack
Except you aren't forced to explore in dark souls, ever. there's always one or two obvious paths to go on. yea there are secrets everywhere, but you never ever need to uncover some hidden thing to progress at any point, as far as I can remember.
To be honest I thought having to autistically powerbomb every surface is the most boring part of metroid. exploration is cool. hitting your head against a wall to make sure it isn't bullshitting with you isn't exploring. you might as well call going to the beach with a metal detector "exploring". the only reason they did that shit was to pad to compensate for limitations anyways.

>but once you unlock the warp network there's a lot of the castle you don't see anymore
...why? the only reason you'd see less is if you wanted to see less, in which case more power to you. for everyone like you, the whole castle is all still there for you.

Preferences between souls games aside, you just haven't convinced me at all that warping leads to less exploration. In my mind it only leads to more as each area becomes instantly available to you whenever you want. And if you don't want to go to an area again, you shouldn't have to.

Warp isn't bad in itself, but it allows/encourages poor world design. In fact, since there is no reason for the lordvessel to allow warping, I think it was added last minute as a patchwork fix on the lack of interconnectivity of the post-vessel areas. Another reason I believe this is that you can warp to firelink from the Abyss even without having the Lordvessel. The initial plan probably was to only allow warping from Lord Soul bonfires to Firelink. In fact, I've wanted to try to teleport to Nito's before the Lordvessel and see if I can. Although my table wasn't working last time I tried doing something similar. If anyone has a link to a working one, I will.

I totally 100% disagree with that. I think way more careful thought was put into 3's world than 1.

Personally DS3's world feels clunky and they put too much emphasis on bonfire-based checkpoinying opposed to physical shortcuts and world interconnections. Unlocking a shortcut in DS1 / Bloodborne feels rewarding, seeing a new bonfire in DS3 a minute or two after last had one just feels stupid and it removes all tension from the gameplay.

I felt this way before but after playing Bloodborne it truly sank in how much better DS3 could've been.

I just went Elana, Sinh, Blue Smelter, Fume Knight and Sir Alonne in rapid succession. They really put a lot of effort into the dlc bosses didn't they?

Also funny how the dudes in armour are ending up being great fights. OandS, Artorias, Gwyn (without parrying), FUME, Alonne, Velstadt, Pontiff, Nameless King Phase 2, SoC, Abyss Watchers i guess, Champion Gundyr, Lorian are all really fun fights.

Or maybe it would be more accurate to say humanoid enemies that aren't too much bigger than you are good fights.

In fact, Darklurker was a good magic based fight. I prefer it much more than say the crystal sage or moonlight butterfly or gwyndolin.
>>
>>169877324
Sunlight spear, 60 faith, canvas talisman

I wish I was joking but unless you want to farm 30 medals for great lightning spear for the last 3 bosses (2 of whom resist lightning anyway) you may as well just wait for sunlight spear. All other offensive miracles bar lightning stake are trash
>>
>>169877326
Yeah, I mostly liked that aspect of DaS2, the amount of big armored guys. Armored humanoids in this series are generally fun to fight. All of DaS1's best bosses were like this with the exception of Manus.

More fun than shit like a big gay wolf or damage-sponge dragon at least.
>>
>>169877325
Game? Stats? Miracles you want to use?
>>
>>169877325

Depends what you're going for and what your faith stat is. Talismans are better for damage dealing miracles as their weapon art provides hyper armour while casting (sunlight talisman provides the most, saint's talisman the least), chimes are generally better for buffs as Yorshka's has the best spell buff of the miracle catalysts and will give you the most damage
>>
>>169877447
Well that sucks. I'm super close to getting lightning stake on my faith character but I guess I'll probably have to mostly rely on hitting stuff with a sword the whole game again anyway.

I was hoping that the angel seen in TRC trailer would be a boss battle but seeing as there are more than one of them and they respawn if you chese em makes me think they'll just be standard enemies like the Milwood Knights.

>really put a lot of effort into the DLC bosses

They put a lot of effort into a few of them. Elena was a literal fucking Nashandra reskin + adds. The gank squad was a fucking abortion of a boss. Lmao2cat was just Aaava with a twin and the worst area in the entire game leading up to it. Cool Ranch Smelter is literally Smelter but magic damage instead of fire damage. Sinh was barely better than Kalameet + gimmick, but Kalameet was a fun fight anyways so it's acceptable.

Dudes in armour are usually peoples' favourite fights though. DS2 got shit on it a ton because of its lack of variety, not for dudes in armour being fundamentally bad.
>>
>>169877910
We don't even fight the angel in first part of the dlc. He's being projected to hunt us by Londor pilgrims and mostly plays like a stage hazard like Mensis brain. Whoever the original is, he's probably in Ringed City itself and will be a real boss.
>>
>>169878441
>Sinh was barely better than Kalameet
Sinh is way fucking worse than Kalameet. They removed all cool abilities of Kalameet like his cursing gaze and only gave lame poison in return and made him so bullet spongy your weapons can break against him.
>>
>>169878746
No anon, they gave him "acid skin", which is elaborated on fucking nowhere.

If this is your first time playing a souls game, it's not uncommon to crutch on a shield for a while. Dodging becomes more natural eventually, but only once you get a decent handle on the game and stop letting it scare you. Pretty much everyone used a shield in their first playthrough.
>>
>>169878998
Assuming you're talking about DaS3, then kind of only because it has the weakest blocking in the series, minus BB. Trying to block stuff will inevitably get you in trouble more often than save you eventually.

AFAIK they do. But it depends on whether they are sorceries/miracles/pyros. The dark clutch ring will boost all of them considerably so you may want to add that. For pve equipping the ring of steel protection should counteract the increased damage from the clutch ring.

omnicaster, using all types of magicks. it's not really possible because
1) scaling gets better close to the softcaps, meaning staying below it gets you diddlysquat. you basically need 60 int 60 fai to do acceptable damage all around
2) casters are balanced around using 2 ringslots for damage boosting rings and 1 for sage and the damage boosting rings are different for each magick class, meaning you need 7 ringslots or 6 ringslots and 50 dex. you only have 4 ringslots and already want for stats because of the above and ATT. and that's accepting you'll be made out of paper

Whilst there's a lot of complaining and suggestions about the games, surely the souls series is still regarded as one of the greatest for you guys right?

At the risk of sounding like a fromdrone, I think despite its flaws, DS1 is the greatest game of all time and every other game including DS2 is a 9/10 at minimum. In the span of a year I've been able to experience DeS and DS1,2 and 3 and honestly I can't think of any game series that is as great.

Which makes me sad we'll have to wait for froms next soulsesque game which we probably won't have till fall 2018. At least I've got bloodborne to look forward to eventually if I can poney up the $ for a Ps4.

For the most part I feel DS1 is fair. If you die it's usually your own fault and you have the means to overcome any issues.

Sure you have seaths first encounter and the bed of chaos which undoubtedly are bullshit but overall the game is fair.

That and overcoming the challenges presented is what's core to the series. Seeing you defeated or victory achieved after OandS for example was reward enough for how long I spent learning and struggling to fight em.

Funny actually, I can do OandS naked now no problem.

Turns out the earth seeker WA is actually not too bad

>initial plunge into the ground has a hurtbox
>When people panic roll away from the initial hit, as long as they don't roll past you, they are right in the "danger zone" of the WA

I still don't understand why people get totally invulnerable when they are laying on the ground. You should at least be guaranteed a hit with duel charms, but noooo laying on the ground instead gives you i-frames

Do you guys think this is a good order to recommend playing the souls games? Got a cousin who's interested in the series.

DS1>DeS>DS2
DeS before SoTFS will get him used to consumable healing and items for mana, as well as warping from the start and levelling up with a maiden.

Take a break if feeling even a little burned out>DS3>BB
Simply because I hear BB is extremely good and so they'd be going from good to very good rather than the other way round.

No.

DeS -> DaS1 -> SotFS -> BB -> DaS3

Production order always.
>>
>>169889814
Yup. Can't be arsed to buy PS+ just to play BB online. When I grab the PS4 GOTY, I'll probably buy some PS+ too and try to play it. The event was probably started by some reddit amateur with no community clout behind him but it's a nice idea anyway (btw, where can you get the Bloodborne font?)
>>
>>169890787
You are going to solo him and you are going to like it
>>
>>169890787
Just summon Anri and Gotthard, one or both will get you the same result since Sully's AI completely breaks down when he's fighting more than one target.
>>
>>169890842
>>169890627

I would recommend the following orders :
DeS -> DS1 -> DS2Softs -->DS3 --> Bloodborne
Considering that you're going from a mechanically inferior game into a mechanically superior one. This is if you don't really care about the story as much as just going from an unrefined game to a more refined one.

Story-wise :
DS 1 --> DS3 , play the rest in order of DS2 Softs --> DeS --> Bloodborne

Always Bloodborne last because you don't want to have to downgrade the experience from Bloodborne to another Souls game, plus you HAVE to get the DLC for BB.

I personally like running a skeleton token deck. Try to get out some baby skeletons or skeleton warriors early on to protect my necromancers. If they are in bigger danger from spells or from being rushed, I run a few vows of silence and gravelord sword dance.
This is mostly to survive early on, if I get to late game I get to play the first of the dead which means the game is pretty much over since he summons more skeletons than most decks can deal with every turn.
Wolnir from the latest expansion is a good situational choice and wheel skeletons, while nerfed, also have their niche.
>>
>>169892858
Because they were forgettable. They were no different than DS1's "AAAAAAAUUUUUUUHHHH" soundtrack.
>>
>>169892990
I heard shit like Claymore wasn't as good as longswords in DS3, since they do about the same damage at half the speed.
>>
>>169892886
From the builds I've played straight up quality 2 handed great/ultra great swords are the strongest in pve. Raw Astora Straight Sword with spells of your choosing is pretty strong too.
I don't do duels so I don't know what's strong in clubs, but fume greatsword and profaned greatsword are great for popping fools in invasions.

He's not memeing. Magic is not particularly more viable from where it started. A lot of absolutely garbage spells are now just mediocre, but you're not going to beat anyone who knows what he's doing without a serious gimmick, and PvE is going to be a slog unless you're spamming the shit out of two pyromancies.

Quality is the meta because almost every single weapon in the game is extremely powerful with Refined infusion. If you want to be competitive, you go quality, or stick to very specific weapons.
