Speaking of things that someone mentioned yesterday, I picked this up and damn if it isn't intricate. The thing about the seasons being the real life seasons is a bit too autistic for me to be honest.

You're technically not wrong but the actual problem with this reasoning is that while the wall was built at the political borders at the time, there were massive campaigns led by Qin officers to push the borders TO where they existed. The (Qin) Great Wall almost entirely follows mountain ridges, while the Ming one (i.e. the one up today) both follows mountain ridges and zigzags in a soft S pattern across relatively flat land in order to get to the next mountain (as the western sections of the Great Wall uses a lot of mountains as natural walls).
Basically, yes it's political, but no it's not "just" political. Ningxia, a relatively fertile land near the yellow river encompassed by the Great Wall, was captured by the Qin from the Xiongnu, and the Wall follows the extent of the recent conquest.

Here we see the tribal Australian alpha male protecting his loyal canine companion from an attack by a rivaling tribe. This species shows absolute dominance over nature, the grace, the beauty, the strength. His flannel pattern garb is not only decorative but also shows his ranking as a warrior of his people. The Roo tribal realizes this after a single right hook to the jaw quickly backing down, knowing he's in over his head he simply stares as the Aussie male performs victorious gestures and walks away to tend to his canine. The Roo will have to hunt elsewhere in another territory or risk war with the Aussie tribe.

The AI will get better over time. It did with V at least.

My biggest beef right now is that it's virtually impossible to win on some starts because of early units and the importance of strategic resources. There is no counter to legions if you have no strategic resources and there are no counters period to war-carts.

Holy shit. The AI in Civilization games has always been idiotic at best, but Civilization VI takes it to a whole new level:

1. It is apparently impossible to maintain a good relationship with any other civilization unless you're losing on purpose. You can give them gift, help them in war, save them from barbarians, establish trade routes, whatever you want. Doesn't matter. You get +10 point for all that and -9001 points for building one more wonder than they did.

2. They build cities in the most retarded places. As soon as you meet an AI player, its first priority becomes to settle as many cities in-between yours as he can to cockblock you. And I know they're shit cities: I've captured them often, they barely ever build anything there. They just do it to fuck with you. And since it fucks with THEIR performance even more than it fucks with yours, they're essentially cutting off their own noses to spite their faces. THE AI ISN'T EVEN TRYING TO BEAT YOU. IT'S TRYING TO MAKE YOU AS MISERABLE AS POSSIBLE.

3. They just lost a war to you where you razed three of their cities, they denounce you, they fuck with you with their spies... Then they ask "Pretty please give me 20 gold per turn and that unique resource you got from a great person. For free." Then they get mad when you say no.

4. They are fucking incompetent at dealing with barbarians. They'll leave a barbarian camp alone for 50 turns, and of course those red assholes only target you despite the other guy's town being right next door. So, you finally decide to wipe it out, get there, almost kill the unit in the camp... Then the other guy shows up with his spearman in 1928 AD, last hits the barb and captures the camp. COULDN'T DO THAT EARLIER, NO SIR.

And that's on top of it not only cheating, but every single one of them ganging up on you (though that's par for the course in Civilization). Whoever designed the AI this time around thought "I don't want the AI to beat them, I just want it to make them ragequit".

basically the same, except no space management, no births/death management, resources are on a timer and no one actually carries anything, trade is simplistic as shit and combat is laughable.

I swear one of them also built the museum of auriga in one turn. That would've cost them thousands to rush it. You simply would not have that much dust that early.

Wiz has said that he wants it to be a completely different game style playing a spiritualist vs. playing a materialist, etc.
So I think he is aware that every game of Stellaris is currently identical, but I have yet to see any evidence that Utopia changes this. Well, one of the Grand game has some extremely deep mechanisms about factories, populations, and so-so, and there's a... I dunno, it's not really a bug, but liquors factories are extremely interesting in that game because they're easy to make and always in high demands.
Don't remember which one, but I remember trying it, seeing I had to balance between the peasants, the workers and the higher classes, saying "yeah, no", leaving, uninstalling it, and going to read Kumo Desu ga, Nani ka.

>>
>>169742429

>>169742570

Going into Biological locks you out of Psionic, and vice versa.

Which is absolute bullshit when you consider why a mechanical race would want to genetically modify their pleasure slaves, or biologicals try to unlock the hidden potential of the mind.
>>

>google this
>find " Similar to the Demon King, the Hero's existence too can't be perished."

>>
>>169742570
Because Wiz says so. The rationale is that Wiz wants each ascension path to be unique playstyles, so he wants to keep them separate.

The real problem is that there are only 3 ascension paths, so spiritualists get Psi, materialist Mech, and everyone else gets Bio. It'd be nice if the other ethos got unique ascension paths as well, and if you could mix ascension paths or even if the 3 ascension paths were modified by your secondary ethos.
>>
>>169742575
It's because a fuck ton of pops use liquor as an everyday need. It's also a supply for infantry, which means it gets consumed pretty fast driving up the demand.

couldn't be fucked figuring it out last night so went to bed. No new mods or anything since my last game, which was a month ago, and had no issues or weird anomalies like this.

Launched a new game with just a few mods:
complete colours
fastership upgrade
flags emblems etc
larger homeworld
reduced truce time
shorter integration

same issue, 3 corvettes had a total fleet power of 14. Fine, relaunched a new game with no mods. Corvettes had normal fleet power of 103 of whatever it is. Switch mods back on, launch a new game again, Corvettes have normal fleet power; 103. So I dunno what the fuck was bugging it out. Never happened before and haven't edited changed anything since last playthrough

assuming no tile blockers; where would the best place settle?
>>
>>169778559
You could probably suppress that Physics and turn the whole planet into energy-focus.
Otherwise you'd be either suppressing one of those energy tiles to make the most out of planet admin or taking a 3-tile planet admin.
Ideally, if you could remove the tileblockers and then move planet admin, second row down, center tile would be good.
>>
>>169778807
It's frustrates me when there's is no place that is optimal. I'm thinking I'd settle 2nd row, 3rd across, like you said and then just turn the physics into power plant
>>
>>169779267
You could accomplish a similar thing with third down, second across, sacrificing that one energy and presumably that one food next to it for minerals, then put a power plant on top of it.
Otherwise, the physics spot is the only real candidate IMO.

>>

what did they mean by this?
>>
>>169778559
Optimal settle long-term is on a tile with food and / or minerals, surrounded by 4 tiles none of which are research.
As such the only possible answer (assuming no tile blockers) is where the glacier is.
If you ARE accounting for tile blockers, nowhere is optimal; I'd probably go to the north of the volcano to get a +3 energy buff on the volcano tile.

I could see how maybe it could be seen as being too big a strain on resources, e.g. "cancel NASA and pay debts xD"

the bigger problem was mechanical, the penalty wasn't that big and the added FIDS was always a bonus. Additionally, the AI would get massive approval bonuses on higher difficulties, and on all difficulties they would spam colonies, and never trade them for any reason other than making peace in a losing war. So if you wanted a competitive economy late game you'd have to ignore the penalty and spam colonies early yourself. The only real limiter on how fast you could colonize was that pops wouldn't grow while building a colony ship. But a few breadbasket worlds later and that problem's solved.

And the worst part is the realtime simultaneous turns. Turns the game into a twitch reaction fest of who can issue the colony command faster.

Imagine a fucking board game where multiple people reach their hand in at the same time and fight over the pieces. Ridiculous.

tl;dr it was a shitty mechanic that didn't stop expansion at all

Giga Cannons are an excellent all-rounder and much better overall.

Lances have more armour-piercing, but are a lot more situational. They are usually used against enemies with poor or nonexistent shielding, such as the Prethoryn.
>>
>>169778559
There's no real optimal here, you have two places with food that can get the bonus off, one of which is a dual
4,4 and 2,3 are both optimal places, even if suppressing 1 energy each, they both have food bonuses, energy bonuses and mineral bonuses off tiles
if you're absolutely fucking retarded, you can put it on 3,4 after you clear the glacier, but basically any spot that can get you one food tile bonus from a capital is good enough

No, suppressing a 1 energy tile is not a big deal on any 12+ spaces planet

They don't. I don't hate it, but I don't "love" it. It's like EU4 but not even. EU4 has a bunch of near objective improvements. Most of Civ V are highly subjective, besides the hex tile system which is just plain better. I'm still annoyed at the disappearance of commerce, it's on par with 1UPT for me.

After being forward settled and DOWd by all my neighbrs I was able to conquer Austral, take a chunk out of Japan before Pericles took Kyoto, and conquered Brazil except for a few cities on the fringe of the continent Pangaea Ultima.

Now Pericles is trying to win a Science Victory. I focussed on tech boosts to upgrade my military and focussed on building armies of tanks, artillery, and infantry. Now I'm invading. Last turn I also sabotaged Athens' spaceport just to be sure. I expect to conquer Athens in the next 5-10 turns before turning northward to claim Kyoto and making peace. Then comes the preparation for the invasion of France to the West.

>It always comes back to 1UPT.
Yes, it does you fucking piece of shit, just like Eu4 always comes back to mana because it's a central point of the motherfucking game and the reason it's hated so much. What objective things does Civ V have over Civ IV? It's literally just the hexes and possibly the different leaders. 1UPT is controversial. Buying units and buildings with money from turn 1 is also controversial. The removal of whipping and the new civic system has not been globally liked. Global happiness is fucking ass.

>They remove a level of the game. You are entitled to your opinion but a lot of people prefer a game of chess to simply building the biggest army.
Try using doomstacks against a player you get you fucking shit pushed in six ways to sunday. A game of chess? Are you fucking kidding me? What is the strategy in Civ V? There is none. It's literally just breaking a line. You can push through the entire motherfucking map with 10 units. The AI is harmed by the addition of 1UPT and it doesn't add anything to the single player game. You claimed EVERYONE liked Civ V. It's fucking shit to a lot of people. A lot of people might like it. Fine. But a lot of people don't.

>objectively flawed
Yes, it is.

>objectively far better
Yeah with its massive balance issues, skyrocketing hammer cost, district bullshit that increases globally etc. right? It has objective improvements like the reversion to local happiness, sure, but it also uses shit like anemities when it's literally just health and happiness but rolled into one for some reason. It also has a terrible fucking UI.

That's exactly what science precludes dumbass. Faith is not something that works under science, by definition. Spirituality, however, does - because it's less of raw belief and more of "this is how I feel". Religion makes claims - spirituality does not.

I want City-State civil wars you can intervene in in Civ 6. Like in Vox Populi. You can create a revolution with spies and barbs begin to spawn. The Suzerain can get additional influence over the CS by killing the revolutionary barbs, or if it fails to wipe them all out by the allotted time then the CS Suzerain flips over to the nation the spy came from.

It would be like the Spanish Civil War. I want to establish a fascist ally with my Wehrmacht and Luftwaffe.

So I guess the "religion" that my current RP empire in Stellaris has is more of a "spiritualism" than a religion.

Though their belief is more-or-less "we made gods come into being in another dimension and they want us to conquer and convert all other empires/species", which could arguably still be seen as religion/supremacist ideology.

Not really because plasma. 60/80/90% armor penetration is too good to ignore. Other than that all you need theoretically is something to bring down the shields although practically I doubt you'd see much difference between half kinetic, half plasma and full plasma.
What I do is proton torp/plasma corvettes and full plasma destroyers until I unlock battleships, then battleships with full kinetic battery/artillery and Mega/Giga when you unlock those and twice the number in cruisers with full plasma.

Man I would just settle for more functional UI. Who's bright idea was it to make the war goal menu so tiny when late game wars often involve multiple factions on both sides? It takes ages just to find all the shit you want to demand and who gets what cause of all the fucking scrolling you have to do in that tiny ass window.

And don't even get me started on the fucking ship designer.

It would be silly not to include them in a DLC defined by Australia.

>>
Remind me never to build a huge spiral galaxy with hyperspace travel again. My god, what a bore!
>>
>>169857715
The sector system is fine, the problem is sector management AI is just as retarded as the faction AI and can't be counted on to build anything properly which nullifies about 90% of the usefulness it would otherwise have.
>>
>>169858587
That's what I had in mind when I said bad execution. Although I still think it should be possible to get more planets earlier on, maybe from research? Could just feel that way because of how god awful the AI is, though.
>>
>>169858893
>Although I still think it should be possible to get more planets earlier on, maybe from research?
But that's already a thing? There's late game research that lets you add more core planets, I think up to 2 more. Plus some government types have more core worlds from the start. I rarely have any issues with it though since I've found I can sector something off after I finish clearing tile blockers and building everything where I want it. Change sector settings to forbid redevelopment and respecting tile resources and it's good pretty much. All the AI will do is shuffle around pops like a retard until the planet is full and then it has no actions to take except building military stations and upgrading shit when the research finishes, which is fine by me.
>>
>>169858587
What sucks is when sectors have surplus of products and you can only tax 75% of it, making 25% go to waste. Who the fuck thought this was a good idea? At least let me take back the fucking credits I invested earlier.

>>169859172

>>
>>169859279
Yeah I'm not really sure what the idea was. Even if you make your sectors as small as possible they are still bound to have surplus production of minerals and credits that just go to waste. You can consider than a tax on having so many worlds, fine, but it just urks me to see thousands of credits and minerals piling up uselessly in stockpiles (which for some reason are infinite while mine is not). There should at the very least be a method for levying minerals and credits from your sectors. Make it cost influence or something.
>>
>>169857715
I only use sectors in the end-game to get more ships. Using it early is a waste of resources and research. This is what I do:
>make lots of labs and research orbital stations
>make just enough power plants and mines/mining stations to fund it

>>
>>169857715
the limit is fucking retarded. It's just another mechanic to hinder expansion. You should be able to choose however many planets you micromanage or put in a sector. 5 systems is a pain in the ass because by the time you get a 6th system not even your homeworld is fully operational yet and there aren't enough options to tell sector what to do because they fuck it up no matter what you tell them to do. So the only option is to build up the planet how you want, which takes forever, then put it in a sector and tell it to do fuck all.
>>
>>169864472
I'd like to see a 4X where the AI won't fuck up the things you do to a planet when you hand it over. That always keeps me from wanting to enable automation.

The SFX are the originals but there's some new (vanilla?) music added because I guess they didn't want the same three minutes looped for the entire game

The voices aren't included but Civ4 uses the same format as SMAC so you can just copy paste them (the mod is designed like that in fact, with placeholder voice clips)

Movies are harder because the .wme SMAC uses is supported by approximately no one so you have to convert them all to BLK and I don't know if I have the effort for that. There were download links on Mediafire for them but they all got taken down a decade ago.

To be honest I'm not sure I like how they implemented the synth and bio ascension paths to be so authoritarian-oriented. If you're running a libertarian society it doesn't make sense for the government to issue a mandatory order to install cybernetic implants into everyone. Would have preferred it if non-authoritarian states had POPs modify themselves autonomously when the technology became available, you wouldn't have control over it but you wouldn't have to pay either.

Hopefully it'll be the same for the synth path, having the government set up planetwide clinics to transfer your consciousness into new robot bodies sounds like a real GOVERNMENT GET OUT REEEEEEE conundrum.

NMS took advantage of the fact that people on console have no experience with the early access open-world procedurally generated survival memegenre, as such they weren't able to call bullshit on the marketing. If NMS was a PC-only title it would stay in EA limbo and have a tiny but autistically dedicated fanbase.

you will want few shipyards both civilian and military type and then few sizes. If you plan to build something a lot then just have a designed yard for that line of vessels otherwise just alternate between your yards. It can also help if you have certain standard sizes you build all your ships in so they all fit snugly in the yards.

Will bio Empires get some cool scourge pets?
>>
>>169890527
>implying
Nah, I wouldn't recommend the game either. I just wouldn't have to bullshit about it like that guy did.

Like the atmosphere and narration are 10/10 but the game gets super stale after a while and nothing you can ever do will change that. It just becomes boring grind after grind in the same dungeons, it never feels like you're making progress even when you actually are because of it, then you finally get to the last dungeon where things are a little different and then it just ends.

The game had 10/10 potential and they only used like half of it at best and made a mediocre product only redeemed by its ambiance as a result. But they didn't lie about shit and not add new content since EA began like that clown claimed.
