I really don't get this stupid fatalism about the genre right now. The scene is healthy for many games, its easier than ever to get games going online, emulation has emulation has made many older games playable, and we're still getting multiple releases a year. This isn't the late 00s where SFIV, ArcSys, and the communuty had to literally drag the genre kicking and screaming back to relevance after it nearly died, even fucking arcades are starting to have a small revival in the west thanks to barcades taking off.

Yeah it sucks that SFV is shit and a few other big games have disappointed but we're doing fine overall.

Anyone who's been exposed to more technical, more dynamic fighting games will quickly pass on tekken. Other top fighters, namely Street Fighter, KoF and MK have advanced impressively in their latest installments; but the relic that is tekken just can't seem to evolve, furthermore many combos can be done simply by hitting 1-button, and the nearly "instant-kill" rage art moves are just laughably broken. Instead of a supplying a proper fighting engine, matches in T7 seem to rely heavily on "who can get their rage move off first". So many elements of the gameplay don't even require any sort of skill. In my book, slow motion over and over again also gets old very quickly. And in the end, it's more of a novelty or gimmick rather than an actual, thought-out fighting game mechanic. But hey, the casual crowd will be pleased!

If you want something a little more "button-masher-friendly," tekken might be your cup of tea.... Key word, might.

sfv is a very momentum heavy game, even a plat can steal a win before you get a chance to adapt

imagine you've just spent the last 3 hours playing nothing but plats and you're on your 32nd win in a row, and then a balrog guesses right on a v-trigger mixup and its all over

the last 3 hours are now down the drain and now you have to win another 52 matches straight to get your win/loss average back on track. The mental damage of that is pretty crazy, and it can snowball pretty quickly until you've lost 1000 points in 15 minutes.
