They're actually really not the best weapons - but they're pretty high up there.

hellblade SA is more bang for your buck than hellblade LS, but SA is only fun with at least two hunter arts and Striker gets a boost in power to sword mode so there's no room for different playstyles with the SA.

There were monsters in previous games that taught you to get gud at iframes by attacking very quickly, Nargacuga variants being the most obvious.

Faster attacks can be easier because your iframes don't have to be quite as tight when the attack only lasts such a small amount of time.

We already had level 4 in Gen, didn't help.
XX will have one higher level than that, while other weapons will get massive increases in raw and many additional armor skills to increase their raw damage output. Shells meanwhile don't scale with anything.

Not because of the concept itself but because 99% of the player base consists of drooling morons who don't pay attention, with half of them not even understanding basic things like how armor skills work. For LR in MH4U I'm currently running a full Barroth set that gives me AU Medium after gemming+charm and I also negated the increased hunger with a gem. Should I keep the AU Medium from Barroth or go for the Cenataur/Gore set that gives me Sharpness+1 and speed sharpen?

Just did a few hunts using energy blade focused set. It's actually not that bad if the monster you're facing is slow. I could land 3-4 10-phials energy blade in one hunt fighting hyper lagi, and that's in multi. My problem is, the hit doesn't seem to have much impact compared to, let's say, lv 3 charge GS. I don't know if it's because the swing is so weirdly angled, or the energy blade itself doesn't have much power in it. My suspicion is because the attack comes from below, it hits other body part first before hitting the weakspot.

Any weapon paired with aerial style. I have never personally seen an aerial player who was not a complete fucking moron who should be gassed. However I have seen some jap TA's with aerial and they could iframe attacks with the jump which was neat to watch. Just get bludgeoner instead then. Unless it's an akantor weapon, then you're shit out of luck. You have to sacrifice so much to make an akantor weapon usable that it comes out really not very good. As long as you play competently I guess you'll be fine but we really don't have many choices for good weapons in this game. There's too much of a difference between the good weapons and everything else and we don't have many skill points to play with to make the things we like work well.

If you like being a cuck then yeah, use a hammer. Nah, it's still fun to use and remains strong. It just doesn't get as much love from the devs as the other weapons do. At least it's not getting shit on every time like the gunlance does. Monsters keep getting increasingly schizophrenic and hammer unfriendly too but glavenus is pretty fun to fight with the hammer. Its turn around bite is easy to slam with a golf swing and all of its attacks are easily readable and leave its head in a good place to smash with an uppercut.

Are our item boxes going to get bigger in XX? I'm already on my last page.

I can say from experience that gitting gud at Dark Souls makes you bad at MH and vice versa. It's just the subtle differences in how everything works. Plus fights take way longer in MH so there's more time to make errors, DaS is more about the commute than the boss itself.

The thing is that Dark Souls has a much lower margin of error, while MH gives you three deaths before you actually stand to lose anything, possibly 4 in gen, plus a million ways to not die, and even in G rank the player is the MH equivalent of someone in fully upgraded havels that can still fastroll with maxed health on top of all their other skills and sixty estus flasks. You don't actually need to git gud for most of MH, it just feels better. In the end both games end up feeling about equally difficult.

Hold R and press A. This puts the energy into the shield. When you morph to axemode (R+X), you will now be able to expend those phials by pressing A during combos. Best bang for your phial buck during combos is pressing it after the X attack that makes your axe do an upswipe, which does a double slash for the price of only one phial.

Pressing A after this attack does an AED, which expends a phial and morphs you back into swordmode. You can also do an AED from a standing start with X and A at the same time. Assuming you're playing 4U you can also do an AED from sword mode by doing any sword attack, then pressing X and A at the same time to do a shield thrust, then pressing X and A at the same time again to morph straight into AED and back again.

During an AED, spam R to transfer your phials to the axehead and morph back to swordmode. This cancels your AED and drains all your phials but gives you a pretty long-lasting buff that makes your shield glow red and block much better, makes the automatic blocks during some attacks stop monsters and deal damage to them, allows you to combo one of those autoblocks into axemode or even straight into an AED by pressing either X or X+A, and greatly increases your damage in axemode with all attacks including your AED (which becomes extremely powerful).

However, an AED will now turn into a Super AED (SAED), like >>169128856 said, which gets rid of your red shield and ALL phials in exchange for being one of the single most damaging attacks in the game and usually a guaranteed KO if it hits the head. Like that guy said, you'll usually want to cancel that into a regular AED; SAED is for finishing off a monster you think is weak, getting a quick first KO or when you know you have a big opening to definitely charge all the way up again. Or, when you git gud, for knocking swooping monsters out of the air extremely stylishly, since this actually provides the opening to charge that shield back up.

Aerial hammer received an indirect buff in XX.

The A double tap attack now has a faster startup and the recovery animation when you whiff the first hit is more forgiving. You can now roll sideways out of the stumble, and much faster than previously.

I'm not sure if you could do this in Gen, but you can change the direction of your A double tap between the first and second hits.

Aerial Hammer is lovely.

What do you lads think of this aerial charge blade gimmick build? With this I'd ignore the yellow sharpness modifier because AED's are fixed and draw straight from the raw, not caring about the axe hit part of the damage either. Aerial attacks and grounded phial attacks don't bounce so no need to bother with mind's eye. Just jumping and spamming AED's here.
