Guys, could you help? I have no idea what I did wrong.

I opened up animation file of beam sniper rifle in Blender, modified it a bit to make it swap in small arc, but when I tried to import it in X2 editor, it dropped this error and application crashed.

I just wanted to make flamethrower animation with rifle.

My first LW1 terror mission went a lot better than I thought, with two assaults with shotguns and two engineers with four grenades each. I think I had a medic and a rocketeer as well. I just spammed grenades until there was nothing left standing, and only lost some 2-3 civilians.

Both my assaults were gravely wounded though, and I had to go without them for a whole month.

Anyway: a lot of explosives. That's how I tackle almost all terror missions, at least in the beginning.

Okay, now Im completely out of ideas.

I made new package, imported both animations for flamethrower and for firing beam sniper rifle (without modifying any, I guess they dont like Blender) and copied notifies from flamethrower animation to rifle one (contains triggers for particle effects, sound, aim and such).

But for some reason fire goes not straight but off to the right.

Anybody have any idea?

It is shooting straight, but it's shooting from the socket where it would normally fire if he was using the wrist mounted flamethrower.

See that icon on the top that's like a red triangle upside down with a black arrow pointing at it? Click it that's the socket manager and it's important, scroll down until you see something like right hand or something like that, click on that and look at where it says skeletal mesh, it should be pointing to a pistol, replace the pistol with the beam sniper rifle(find the beam sniper rifle on the SDK, click on it(don't open it, just select it), then go back to the socket manager and next to the path to the pistol there should be a green arrow or something, click on it and it should replace the pistol on the soldier's right hand with the beam sniper rifle.

Now, open the beam sniper rifle, and go to it's socket manager, and see what the socket for the gun fire is called(it's probably something like gun_fire iirc). Now, go back to your flamethrower animation, go to animsequence and find the Flamethrowerfire(probably) notification, it should say something like emitter socket or whatever, change it to gun_fire, and that should make it so that the fire comes from the beam sniper rifle.

I'm just guessing though, i don't have the SDK open right now.

Also when you're done with everything, it will probably ask you if you want to save something like soldier medium something or other because you replaced the pistol with the beam sniper on that "test model" or whatever, it probably doesn't break anything if you save it like that, but i would just say don't save it.

Also i haven't used the mod, but i think you are already too late with this, see here:

The AI is programmed to be unpredictable to an extent. This means it will sometimes take unwise actions or those that are unlikely to succeed. It's possible his mobility was so impacted by the flashbang or whatever disoriented him that he opted to stay put.

>Also i haven't used the mod, but i think you are already too late with this, see here:

I didnt plan on making flamer as separate weapon. All I wanted was to add a skill for custom class that would work like flamethrower but fired from rifle (should be underbarrel but Im too green to make models). And another that would use normal fire animation for firing grenades.

Just wanted to add that while I can indeed place mesh of said sniper rifle in place of pistol in preview hand, model dont receive sockets from said sniper rifle. So I can enter "gun_fire" instead of "R_Hand" in socket name for particle effect but nothing will then appear, because animation lacks this socket.

I thought it would import sockets somehow but turns out it dont.

Never ignore a terror mission. You don't win terror missions, you can't even break even if you do them perfectly. Instead you mitigate the damage to a minimum.

My first terror mission was shotgun assaults everywhere, since they're a big focus for me, with a couple of non-shotgunners for range. I'd've been better off bringing moar shotguns as it turned out. It turned into a point-blank clusterfuck pretty quickly, while the one remaining pod kept eating civs. You just can't clean a whole map efficiently in a couple of turns, so don't try too hard, and bring grenades.

You only really need one. They don't have fatigue, and if one gets destroyed you can rebuild them for cheap cost. At least early on you definitely don't have tons of money to throw around.

>>168446283

They are easily the most cost effective things you can produce in the game. Overpowered, even, which is balanced by the fact that they don't gain experience, and so relying on them too much will hinder the growth of your flesh and blood units.

Basic Shiv's only cost 60$, and with it you get a 10 HP, 70 AIM 5-9 Damage unit that doesn't suffer from fatigue (and recovers quickly from wounds). Even if they are destroyed, you replace them at 1/4th the cost. For Commander/Impossible Ironman they are really great investments, simply for when you get swamped with missions.

For a little bit more money, you can get Laser Cannons and Suppression, which allows them to reliably neuter any singular threat you may come across in a mission.

You can also invest in Alloy Shivs, which have double the HP, can act as cover, and have 2.5* DR. They do cost a lot of Alloys though, 80(!), but they are seriously viable units through the midgame and early lategame.

>>168435207

Nah; you won't have the supplies to make mag weapons for everyone anyway - so why not also research lasers, get the cheap ones rolling out, then move on to mags when you research it? I'm using a mix of both still due to supply crunch.

It might be "viable" but it's not really a big payoff. You don't net yourself enough guns quickly enough to make a huge difference, and you'll appreciate having extra lasers lying around for Rendevous missions.
>>
>>168449109
I'm currently skipping magnetics for coilguns, hopefully it pays off.

>>
>>168449049

No problem. They are really, really great to bring on missions in general, because they do a *lot* of damage, so they are good for "These fucking aliens need to die *right* now" turns (which happens a lot on terror missions), or to suppress things that are behind cover that you cannot quite deal with immediately (as well as drawing fire from your troops).

Just be careful about letting them get kills, since you don't want to rob your guys of valuable EXP.

>>168449434

iirc Mag Weapons are a prerequisite for Coilguns. Plus, Advanced Mag Weapons are how you get Grenade Launcher mk. 2.
>>
>>168449702

>>
>>168449702
>Grenade Launcher mk. 2.
that requires andromedon autopsy as well
>>
>>168449851

Yea. I meant it in the sense that you are probably going to get it 'eventually' (Grenadiers are a critically important unit), so there is something to be said about just getting it earlier, when you would benefit from the guns more.
>>
>>168449434

That might be harder. Skipping lasers means dealing with enemies as they begin to *slightly* out-tank your damage output until you get ahold of your Mags. Skipping mags means dealing with Mutons, Mecs, Dark Event bonuses, and larger enemy groups with your lasers, which means it's more likely you end up with 1-3 enemies with 1-2 HP left who really had to die.

Grenades destroy "flat" cover very reliably (walls/etc.). LCPL Grenadier's can destroy almost all cover very reliably with Sapper.

Rockets are obviously quite good, although you only get 1 of them per Technical, and you usually use it as your Alpha Strike to break Concealment.

Gunners get Demolition relatively early which is the definition of reliable cover destruction (and they can spam it a *lot* when you get some auto-magazines). Demolition+Ranger/Sniper kills basically everything very reliably.

Later on, "Heavy" Armor with the Shredder Gun is pretty fucking good at this too.

Put everyone on intel in the beginning, including scanning in your region (this is the equivelent of 4 people on intel). Ignore the black market until you have run some good mission and actually have supplies to buy stuff or things to sell. You need GTS to start training your officers.

You see this thing? This is the strongest item in the game. Literally every problem in the game can be solved with more Flashbangs.

>Pulled a 2nd pod and can't kill everything.
Flashbang

>That Sectoid MC'd the only unit that could possibly kill it
Flashbang

>I want to capture that alien
Flashbang

>I need to survive a few more turns for EVAC, but the whole map is converging on my
Flashbang

>Fucking CODEX
Flashbang disables their replication

You can *never* go wrong just giving everyone on your squad a Flashbang.

>How do I get reliable cover destruction as early as possible?
Grenades can destroy weak shit like fences early on. With Sapper, you have a chance to break the walls of things like Earth buildings, and rarely ADVENT craftsmanship, if you're lucky and center the damage on what you want destroyed.

Rockets are excellent for blowing cover to shit, but have a tendency to turn nasty at the worst possible time. You may need to move and fire, and your rocket will veer off wildly, unless you've built that Tech for rockets and aim.

And definitely keep an eye on destructible objects, early on. One lucky propane tank can save a turn, or a mission, and there are probably more booms scattered through the environment than you have noticed before.
>>
>>168451017

Try and get good at doing Low Infiltration% Supply Raids. They are not easy, by any means, and are extremely long missions but they are beyond worth it (even more than early Large Landed UFO's in Long War 1).

>>
>>168451791

It took me around 3 hours total to make this clearly little modification, but on my defense I started completely green. But note that I didnt actually make new animation - I just took existing ones and played with them.

I guess that making completely new animations in software like Maya would take much longer - from what I saw in Blender when I played with it yeterday, you have to set key animation frames for each most important joints and while program will create between frames automatically, for fluid movement of characters you would still need to make rather large number of such key frames.

But if you would want to just have fun with modifying existing ones, I guess it shouldnt take you longer than me to grasp basics.

I wanted to deal with my apathy and complete lack of will to play video games or doing things in general and damn, it actually works.
>>
>>168452348

Flashbangs disable most abilites, like Spit Poison, Grenades(!), Mind Control (and disrupt MC in progress), instakill Zombies (flashbang the Sectoid), Rockets, Shieldbearer's, Stun Lancer's melee attack, etc.

Plus, enemies simply won't even try shooting at you they don't have about a ~20% of hitting, and they have drastically reduced movement, so they will often take low hit chance shots or hunker down, so you can easily set up a flank for the next turn.

Most pods scatter within a distance that you can flashbang the *entire* pod, so if you get flanked by a new pod you can clean up the old pod and simply with 1 flashbang buy yourself another turn where at *worst* the aliens might take a few very low% shots at you.

You know how sometimes you just miss 4 80% shots in a row? ez Flashbang, aliens fiddle their assholes on their turn, and bam, it is like it never happened.

Wish I had this much trust in Flasbangs.
They used to be my bread & butter for all missions, but after Mutons & Vipers start appearing, I lost too many soldiers to "flashbanged" ayys, that take those sweet sub 15% shots and crit trough full cover in elevated position.
Now I just prioritize maximum kill efficiency and full disable capability.
Assaults have become my favourite class with arc thrower, nothing like stunning a Gatekeeper two turns in a row while you mop the floor with its escort, then setup a effective kill combo and take it down.

There's still damage range at the center of a blast. The number you see when targeting is what happens in the middle, while things on the outside take less damage than the minimum you see.

Tandem means the damage range at the Centre is what's applied to everything hit by the grenade, not that everything takes the upper bound of damage on the grenade.

I'm disappointed in LW2, it doesn't change the things I hated about XCOM 2 in general(shitty stealth and timers) and just adds a lot of bullshit that guarantees your going to have to restart campaigns either because something wasn't explained or just pure bad RNG luck. I honestly think I'm done with this game until some other overhaul mod, expansion, or sequel that shakes it up a lot.

It's a shame because I love the mods and customization that the game offers but it's simply stale at this point, and I don't really know what I'll spend my time doing now. It's really kind of a curse that it improves so many aspects because at the same time I want to go back and replay EW which I think the gameplay is better but without the improvements to customization and quality of life I feel like it will be kind of hollow.

Is there really going to be an expansion at this point or are we going to see a new game? I feel like there isn't much an enemy within style expansion could add to the base game(as in, enhancing the current campaign rather than adding onto it after victory), and besides that Long War 2 was fully endorsed by Firaxis and touted as a major addon much like how Enemy Within was. Anything that is taking place after the main game ending is probably best left for a full game rather than an expansion.

>>
>>168481396

Yes, early game it is a huge research bonus, and in LW2 research is much more time-gated than LW1 (where you were primarily resource starved).

The problem is that there are a lot of other buildsings you really are going to want to build first, so by the time you get it, it isn't really that worth it. IMHO you are usually better just buying a scientist early on if you desperately need more.

YES. Check the Black Market every month. If they are "VERY INTERESTED" in an item, it is almost always worth selling it, including corpses, mods, and PCS's (unless you need them for research/save a few for items). Don't sell materials though.

Sometimes they sell Soldiers/Personnel for particularly cheap, and Black Market soldiers seem to be heavily weighted towards awesome base stats.

Gene Mods are strong as fuck in vanilla EW. Mimetic Skin is straight up broken as hell, and it is easy to get.

That being said, MEC troopers are basically the strongest units in the game, but require a lot of investment.

>>168508284

Maybe, but they still are consistent, high volume of fire against shit like Cyberdisks, or enemies out of cover (with rockets/engineers etc.). 2 Infantry and a Shredder Rocket/Chem Grenade can pretty reliably take down a Cyberdisk even at Laser weapons.
>>
Why does Numeric Health Display randomly stop working? Anyone else getting that? It's making me paranoid about my other mods that actually matter.
>>
>>168508112
With the notable exception of meme skin. In vanilla though even Impossible is easymode if you turn on Not Created Equally and turn your 80 aim soldiers into MECs. Get all the meld on your first mission, and research meld recombination right out the gate, and you can have MECs by the end of the first month.
>>
>>168500437

With shit like this happening it makes fighting suicidal, these buffs could be beatable if you had timers removed giving you the time needed to what would be required to deal with this shit.

Meaning you could now have shootouts where you're outclassed or evenly matched considering ranks of troops.

Which sounds more fun than having an armory full of shinobis built for soloing missions.

>>168511235

You have a severe case of infiltrated Faceless Ruler.

>>168513898
Depends on the mission. Regular missions, you need to infiltrate to at least 100%, if not more. On supply raids, just fill up the roster and prepare to storm the beaches.
>>
>>168513795
so what happens if I have most of my squads out and a supply raid or a mission to counter a dark event happens? Then I send my last squad and another one of those pops up? I rather not lose the game because the defense boost dark event pops up this early and I can't counter it.

>>168513714

You are not supposed to actually do every mission. Like, at all.

>>168513898

The game is generally balanced around 100% infiltration, but you can get to 150-200% if you just send 1 or 2 soldiers (shinobi+Specialist stealth ops). Lower difficulty means more and higher tech enemies, which makes missions get *much* harder very fast, and since you don't get corpses on most missions (any mission you Evac from) there isn't any real reward from doing harder missions except margionally more experience from kills. If you struggle with 100% infiltration missions then something is definitely wrong (except shit like Network Towers, which are brutal).

The one exception to this is Troop Ambushes/Supply Raids. Since you actually get corpses, and since you can sell extra corpses for quite a lot of money on the Black Market, doing low (even 0%) missions are very much worth it if you can handle it.

You really only *need* to do 100% Corpse missions to have enough for research/equipment, but deliberately doing low infiltration on these gives you a lot more supplies and possibly higher tier unit corpses than you would otherwise get.
>>
>>168514632
So you are telling me I should send a squad on every mission, just pull them off if another one pops up.
>>
>>168514254

Then you bring back your A team from that INTEL mission and send them on the more important mission. There is no penalty for pulling back from a mission before you start.

Or, if the mission you are currently infiltrating is close to completing, you can boost it with Intel and pop it immediately, and then send your guys on the new mission.
>>
Welp, that was a fun campaign. I love getting fucked with RNG in the tactical layer too since I had no option to counter this in april
>>
>>168515036
Yes, why not?
>>
>>168515036

There is no real cost on having your units infiltrating somewhere, so if there is a nice, moderate value mission just send a team in, and if something more important pops up, pull them back and do the more important mission. If not, then you just proceed with the first mission.

Break stealth with an ambush and call the Skyranger on the same turn. No. The major difference is usually you have to fight everyone.
>>
How do supply raids work in long war 2? I've seen 2 so far, both with about 12 hours remaining. But still have 5 days of base infil. Does infil matter on these missions? Because I would only be able to get like 10% infil.
>>
>>168533315
You keep corpses on missions that don't require evac. Story stuff isn't even that important until later in the campaign.
>>
>>168533627
If you're feeling up for a 33+ enemy slog then go ahead and send 10 guys. You'll get a ton of corpses
>>
>>168533748
He will have to infil for like 20 days for that tho. Supply raids arent even that important early on desu. but you will have to slog through them a bit in for sure.
>>
>>168534305
That's the point

Tons of xp
>>
>>168534784
He can do more missions during that time instead, that earns intel packages. I just dont think going on a swarming supply raid very early is smart, you wont be able to evac in time if shit happens, and it risks the campaign at a vulnerable stage
>>
>>168535283
It depends on how comfortable you are with large engagements
>>
>>168535283
They are objectively excellent for your campaign, but they are highly dangerous since if you jack it up you lose the campaign. It's high risk, high reward. If you can't handle a 30-man combat, don't do it. If you can, do 0% supply raids and snap the campaign over your knee.
>>

>>
>>168533436
What would you change it to instead? Navy ranks don't make sense in this field, AF could work if you skip all the E1-4. Marine/Army ranks make the only real sense.
>>

>>
>>168533239
Beagle is dumb. While watching him play makes me have an autismal rage as he makes bounding movements backwards away from the objective with like 3 rounds left then he's complaining like "Oh no only 3 rounds left, oh shit I forgot to call evac, oh no I'm fucking dying to 2 grunts and 1.5 turrets"

>>168532825
I think that's how it's supposed to be anon. Like it would make sense that the easier, safer option of a ranged hack produces the lesser reward of the two. Obviously going in all stealth shinobi style would give better loot than range hacking and dashing to evac.

For the cosmetic weapons for XCOM2, does anyone have experience working with making configurable changes to the weapons? For example the AK74u is in game classified as an assault rifle, which gives it 3rds/mobility penalty. How would I change that to make it reflect more in line with the SMG class?

>>
>>168544457
No. It's because xwynns play tested LW2 for the majority of 2016, so he and the other play testers already have the experience and tactics learned through months of trial and error.

First of all, it's unfair to compare yourself with the decision making of people who have months of LW2 knowledge, so don't do it. Learning how to play LW2 is not intuitive, so it's also unfair to the LW2 player base that the players NEED to seek sources outside of the game, like xwynns or joinrbs YouTube channels, to learn how to play LW2.

Most of the LW2 learning process takes place in Pavonis Interactice dev/play tester YouTube channels, wikis, or forums, which reflects on the shit game design Lump and friends decided on.

Satellite rush during the opening months. Start in North America, for a large amount of starting dosh. Use this to immediately start two satellites, dig an extra hole on your top floor, and build a power generator. Be careful to leave an opening next to your starting satellite uplink.

Take the first mission that offers a 4 Engineer reward, and put your extra sat in Japan, alongside two interceptors (this can happen basically whenever during the month, but i'd wait til 2 or 3 days from your report so nothing can fuck your panic up last minute). You will probably lose some countries, but this will set you up to IMMEDIATELY build a second satellite uplink right next to your first one, alongside two more sats, which gives the ability to launch 3 sats and get Asia, which yields the most engineers of any continent.

When I first bought XCOM 2, I told myself to swallow my pride no matter what, so I started up a Rookie non-Ironman campaign. I got my ass kicked, and had to restart several times before I got my first Rookie completion.

This morning I loaded up my most recent save to finish up waterworld for my first Legendary Ironman completion.

The median mobility is 13 Mobility irrc. 1 Lower health, but 2 Will and 1 Defense, which is obviously worse but still workable.

13 Mobility 64+ Aim soliders are good for Rocketeer/Gunner/~Infantry I find. Early on Infantry want more health, but I have Crystal Plating and Carpace armor so base HP isn't super important. Which is good, because you can never have too many Rocketmen.

I feel I value Corporal+ recruits from council requests/missions on Brutal/Impossible Ironman more than most people I have seen. I like that you can leave them sitting in your barracks and wait until you need them for a mission and still have the flexibility to be whatever class you might need at the time if you are feeling swamped, and also be high enough rank to actually be more useful than just bringing a Shiv.

The car is not actually the issue, nor that two were wounded and one killed in that instance. Consider that you're positioning yourself for current engagements WHILE trying not to activate hidden pod(s) WHILE taking time constraints into account AND _ANYWHERE_ you move could trigger a Faceless without you knowing until the end of turn, who will immediately come and smack you up.

There is no "be better" about it, it's pure luck to not be in such a situation. So what it comes down to is 'are you okay with taking unpreventable damage?', and I'm personally not.

I had such a hard time on normal difficulty in EU during the base you discover with the skeleton key, but now that I'm replaying it on Classic in EW I'm not having such a hard time Almost at the end of the raid and I haven't lost one solider on this first try.

Really, the hardest it was was in the right beginning against thinmen since I couldn't one shot them and had to resort to retreating and overwatch.

I think the biggest gamechanger was giving one of them the mimetic skin to scout ahead, I'm almost inclined to call it cheating with how good it is.
>>

Players who've certified got gud are the ones who recognize that Faceless are bullshit, and that any implausible counters to them involve playing antithetical to the game's design and objectives. It's the shitters who can't distinguish this because they take so much damage and play fundamentally shit that they just accept it.

>all rookies

Also how hard is Deluge? I don't remember ever playing it.
>>
>>168650763
Deluge is full of mechtoids dropping from the sky with a time limit until the dam collapses.

It's not too bad in vanilla IIRC but it's a slugfest in LW. I like Annette though so I always do it.
>>
>>168650983
This'll be vanilla for sure. Idk, wiki says you can only get Annette post-base-defense, which is a mission i'm pretty worried about. I want to hit the alien base super early, like, possibly ballistics-early, to try and avoid Cyberdiscs in the Base Defense.
>>
I finally got my hands to xcom2. Went with legendary ironman bc I have a huge dick. Keep getting my shit fucked up bc 1-2 of my squad guys gets injured for 30-40 days. Then I get important council mission and cant do it with rookies and snipers. Do I need to just git gud or is there something crucial im missing?
>>
>>168653019
Git gud. Try killing everything with grenadiers or removing their cover and then fucking them up before they can shoot back.
>>
>>168653019
git gud, which will take a long time playing exclusively on L/I.

or work your way up from Rookie. your small dick will grow into the biggest of them all.

>>
>>168655094
In X2? Not really. Too many special abilities.
>>
>>168653019

Don't play on Legendary Ironman. You will literally not even get gud at the game.

At the very least play on Veteran Ironman if only so you get a grasp on the game mechanics and what is necessary to *win* the game before you start playing on the difficulty that expects you to master every element of the game.

Ok than modding is acually not a bad place to start. Check the mod pastebin in the OP that has organization, and to start with check out the ones that don't change the gameplay. Get the alternate mod launcher (the steam mod launcher sucks). Focus more heavily on the fixes and utility mods, and then go for some cosmetic mods if you want to.

And then in game, if you haven't played an xcom game before make sure to start on veteran.
