I took a mission on swarming because I was desperate for corpses. So I went in armed to the teeth expecting to lose half my squad.

And then after I broke concealment the enemies in the game just stopped moving and just became targets. It's nice having all those corpses now but if I don't think I'll be doing that anymore.

>>

I wonder what the chances of that were.
>>
>>168708206
The flamethrower seems extremely weak in LW2.
>>
>>168710961
It can disable entire pods while doing damage, the problem is that the range isn't long enough for a mid range class. Also, the long war team thought it was a good idea to change it so burning disables ranged abilities without telling the player.
>>
Is there a tier 2 grenade launcher in LW2? I'm starting to face Archons, and my grenadier's are starting to seriously lack in punching power.
>>
>>168711681
You need the Andromedon autopsy for it. Pretty sure it only increases the range and radius.
>>
>>168711681
advent mecs I am pretty sure, though grenadiers are pretty shit in LW2 overall.

Also never, because Pavonis are a bunch of lazy shits. 1.2 patch notes have been up since january and they still haven't released the update.

>Instead of being a research project, corpse rendering is now a job that is done in the Laboratory.
>Can assign your scientists to either all render one corpse quickly, or multiple corpses more slowly.

Y/N?
>>
>>168712065
It's an issue with memory; certainly independent of system specs, because it happens to me with 16GB of RAM and only ~6GB being used in total. Turning down the graphics settings a little eliminates the bug in my case.

Regardless, it should be saving on your last turn before mission end, so I don't see how you're having problems replicating your actions.
>>
>>168711638
They also thought it was a good idea of having neither Panic nor Burning be guaranteed at any point during the game, not even by the time you get incendiary bombs. Technicals don't scale well at all and their perk tree could use a rework.Same with SPARKs, I have no idea what the ass fuck they were thinking when they put together the LW2 SPARKs.
>>
>>168712582
>I have no idea what the ass fuck they were thinking when they put together the LW2 SPARKs.

>>
Am I supposed to do every single event in every area of xcom 2 or they pop up randomly and I have to ignore them? What are the most important events?
>>
>>168708363

Technicals are fine early on, and in light missions where the alpha strike actually accounts for a large amount of the total enemies you fight.

But yea, they are pretty shit later on.

It really is frightening how awfully thought out LW2 SPARKs are. Just taking a casual glance at the tier 1 perks is enough to reduce grown men to autistic screeching, I'm pretty sure more in depth looks at how they work has caused people to commit suicide. People who complain about Technicals have no idea, just no idea at all about the real struggle.

Similar can be said for the Technical class, the middle tree is just copy/paste from the Gunner.

>The Long War fatigue spiral kicks in hard
>already scraping the bottom of the gray market barrel to fund big air war foundry push

Only 5 soldiers KIA but so many wounds cycling in and out of the roster. 60 soldier roster just isn't nearly enough with the arrival of mechtoids.
>>
>>168713827
To be fair, the fire redirection thing is actually pretty decent. If you throw a smoke grenade on a SPARK, they're borderline impossible to hit. Slap on a Aid Protocol and your spark now has so much defense enemies accidentally kill themselves when they try to attack it.
>>
>>168714653
I'm pretty sure wrecking ball is the most underrated perk in the game.

Ghetto combat engineer is OP
>>
>>168714971
Its definitely worth considering, but I've found that its usefulness varies wildly. Sometimes its a gamechanger, other times it never really comes into play. Would be nice if it was built in on every spark by default quite frankly.

So is it XCOM canon that the Aliens have visited us before the invasion? The Bureau aside(which may or may not be canon) were Roswell and other related incidents Alien scouts probing us? Seems like the XCOM initiative was activated pretty fast after all.
>>
>>168744624
during the final mission on X2
you find a recreation of a normal human home
and Bradford mentions that there have always been reports of missing civilians even before the invasion

that and what you just said, its possible that the world governments had some knowledge of alien life and a risk of an invasion prior to the events of EU/EW
>>
>>168745148

Given EU's use of UFO mythology and conspiracy, I always took it as implied that the alien threat was known before they actually revealed themselves. To the Council, at least.
>>
>>168744624
>>168746368
This, XCOM was in effect long before the commander, they had the bare bones groundwork laid out to get the ball rolling quickly IF invasion happened. Bradford was ready to go when they landed in Germany, with the Skyranger and a ready reserve of soldiers.
>>
>>168746978

Yeah, the base (which I always imagined was hidden somewhere out in Buttfuck, Africa) was obviously dug out and ready for use. There was probably a skeleton crew permanently stationed there, including the rapid response team we see fly out to Germany for first contact. Bradford may or may not have been part of the standby garrison, but I think Vahlen and Shen got flown out when they activated the XCOM project.
>>
>>168747259
Makes sense, Vahlen and Shen have that bit of friction in the beginning. Makes me appreciate those no-name, sweatered nerds in the hologlobe room. Living underground with each other for company for who knows how long, completely cut off from anyone without a quadruple maximum security clearance.
>>
>>168748049
Oh, and I guess according to canon, they never see the light of day again.
>>
>>168748049
>Living underground with each other for company for who knows how long
if the xcom project isn't active and only the most basic posts are being manned wouldn't they have shifts?
they probably cant talk about it with anyone but at least they would be able to go out
>>
>>168748835

They WOULD be allowed to go out, if a bored and restless Bradford didn't keep inspecting them and revoking their weekend passes for various infractions.
>>
>>168748835
Maybe, with a good enough front. But you wouldn't want people being seen coming and going in and out of your secret base too often.

The real question is who is feeding all these agents and where are they getting the food? Delivery by top secret government food truck drivers?
>>
>>168749682

There's probably something on top of the base. A "meteorology station" or "power plant" or something else that would justify occasional deliveries.

Yo just got off a shift. What should I do to improve it?

Really I just plan to do a couple challenge runs for xcom (rookies only I:I, then possibly ballistics only I:I vanilla), because there are already so many great I/I Long War campaigns out there and I'd rather do something different.

>when Long War gets cute with the terror missions

This month's flavor is mutons, of all varieties. The hot LZ had 2 berserkers and a muton, and every. single. pod. afterward. had another berserker along with more mutons, and one little floater as team mascot.

People are freaking out from how close these things are getting before Vasquez pulls double overtime with close combat specialist round after round, killing them literally as they turn around to smash team leader Tran to bits.

All rockets went out in the first three turns and red fog is scaring off rogue mutons we couldn't spare the firepower to kill. Thankfully between the sight blocking cover of these cars and the many civilians running around making big targets of themselves, the mutons haven't taken a shot at the squad.

Still one wounded and two healthy mutons watching us, six civilians wasted, and a cyberdisc pod floating around somewhere else. I call this one berserker alley, and hope everyone leaves it alive, including the big girl the squad managed to stun.

There are lots of timer-free missions in Lw2 after the early game. EW-style breaching is still pretty rare though, probably because the maps are so open. I think it's probably the dynamic maps that do it desu.

There's probably no hope of hiding that the land belongs to some kind of military base, what with the interceptors and Big Sky needing to fly in and out all the time. It's probably just disguised as an ordinary run-of-the-mill-non-alien-related military base. They shouldn't have any problem getting people and supplies in and out that way.

I actually prefer hot LZs in many situations on a terror mission. Especially with shadow devices and smoke grenades.

>>
So what would you want in an official expansion to XCOM 2 or LW2?

>Enemy variety tweaked so that by midgame the Advent Soldier to Alien ratio is no more than 1:1.

>Advent Psi Shaman. Advent soldier with psi abilities. 100% support unit that doesn't attack the player. Has Fortress (that transfers to adjacent units), Inspire, Mind Meld and a new ability, Soul Transfer, which allows the Psi Shaman to bring back any dead non-robotic unit (including XCOM units). The unit comes back fully, not as a zombie, and its HP is equal to the HP the Psi Shaman had when it used the ability. Using this ability causes the Psi Shaman to die.

>Advent Psi Shocker. An offensive Psionic Advent soldier. Has Soulfire, Soul Steal, Pyrokinesis, Null Lance and a new ability, Psi Shock. Psi Shock kills either the Psi Shocker or an ally unit. The attack does an amount of Psi damage equal to the amount of HP the sacrificed unit had.

>Advent Suicide Bomber. Variant of Stun Lancer with lower stats for aim, damage and stun-chance, but higher mobility and explodes in a 9-space area upon death. Variants that do acid, fire or poison damage with their explosion.

>Upgrade to the Defense Matrix that lets you deploy your own XCOM Drones similar to the Advent Hunter/Surveillance Drones.

>Cybernetic augmentations to soldiers. And I mean turn them into cyborgs. Not cut their fucking heads off and stick it on a robot body. I mean what the fuck was up with that in the first game? That's not what a fucking cyborg, man. I felt so bad for the soldiers I turned into MECs.

once you get used to it, it's a lot of fun.

I think you should stay at 6 if you're on one continent, then add 2-3 for each additional continent. You can go to 12 for one continent if you want to be able to fight medium UFOs, but it's really expensive and not worth it IMO. I prefer keeping a small number and almost never engaging mediums.
>>
>>168782668
The unidentified light is the fighter class, they're tough and always dangerous because of good aim. It's only worth sending your best pilots with cutting edge weapons against them, same with the destroyer class later on. Sending anything less is just asking for long repair times on multiple jets and no control over your skies, which is exactly the reason the aliens send a fighter/destroyer.
>>
>>168783498
My issue with X2 is that it's a big step back in UI and performance. Atrocious load times where EW loads instantly. Delays after every order that don't fully go away even with mods. A less functional UI because they didn't want to use screen space or something [which is also part of why you have to research every vanilla item out of game, apparently providing enough space for full perk/item descriptions wasn't among the design goals for the vanilla UI.. hehe minimalism xDDD].

The beautiful thing about LW is that nobody can agree on the correct strategy for a lot of things. It will be strong is all I can say.

Personally I'd rather sell all the meld before selling even a single piece of elerium. Are you saving it for MECs? That's the only reason I can think of to keep it. I guess you can also use it for salvage projects but they're a bit too expensive for my taste pre-lategame.

Just fatigue wounded 8 soldiers so I think we'll get through the alien deployment push, but I probably will buy the SHIVs as well. The rookies aren't going to be much help when mechtoids are showing up on even light missions.

The issue with the dlcs is that they're too hard but also very predictable. The first time you go, you get raped, sure. Then you either watch a video or do the mission a couple times. Eventually you have a reproducible strategy that works every time because the spawns are scripted, and it nets you massive rewards that make the rest of the campaign a lot easier.

Every campaign I cringe when I get newfoundland, even though I've done hundreds of abductions and only a dozen newfoundlands. Because the abductions have risk and variety, in newfoundland I just repeat the strategy that works every time and get a safe easy payout.

Thing is, I'm pretty sure they gave the 'lids spikes as a part of the aliens' gene modifications. More ways for the 'lids to inject their venom.

Can anyone in endgame with a bunch of liberated provinces help me out?

I read online that setting a liberated province's advisors to intel would cause intel to build up in all adjacent provinces. I've been low on missions so I set everyone in a liberated province to intel to see what would happen. I think I got maybe 2 missions over the entire month and none of them came with especially high mission timers.

Am I just unlucky or should liberated provinces be set to full supplies mode? Seems like no matter what I do most of missions come from where-ever the avenger is scanning.

Liberated regions are supply depots, nothing else really. Occasionally, you'll switch them to recruit (mostly after invasions kill everyone), but otherwise they're supply depots only.

Is it? I'm about to start a LW run.

Yes it is. If you have repair then it's certain doom. If you turn it off, it might work. The problem is you have to get through ballistics without losing people or you are still in a worse position even with slightly more resources. And Phoenix canons suck compared to laser canons.
Just follow standard weapon progression, you can skip most of the pulse laser tier, but you still might make a few and at least need the research to upgrade your laser canons.

Dear /xcg/.

A simple question about editor and animations.

What notification actually forces character to pickup grenade launcher from the back in launching animation and replace primary weapon? And, funny enough, I failed to figure out, which notification actually launch the grenade.

I wanted to make a skill that would look like launching grenade from primary weapon, like from under-barrel, but once again lost myself a bit while examining existing animations.

Also, what animation sequence should be included in package? I mean, can skill draw sequences from different packages when needed?

I said "again" since Im that guy, who kept asking questions about flamethrower animation. Simple working on modifying existing animations and it once again gave me will to play video games and most importantly - to have fun with them.

Or, for example, would just using heavy plasma rifle reloading animation with imported notification be better idea for such skill? ("AC_NO_ReloadA" from package "AS_SoldierHeavyPlasma").

The issue with gauss rush is that laser is dirt cheap and fast. By the time you're researching gauss you'll be crying because laser will be a trivial 5-day tech and you've only saved like 250 bucks and 40 alloys by forcing yourself to fight floaters and worse with ballistics. And you're not even saving from laser cannons, you're just getting an equivalent weapon for equivalent cost with a big delay.

There's a mec rush which reportedly works a lot better since it replaces the massive costs of laser cannons with much cheaper boosters, but I haven't tried it.
>>
>>168829678
Robots are immune to fire
>>
>>168830557
It's kind of dumb to skip/delay lasers for interceptors because you're eventually going to research pulse and build supercaps.
>>
>>168770742
You're gonna need to tweak the ini to get the weapons to line up with the others correctly in terms of stats, but guys are already working on a mod for that, so perhaps all you need to do is wait.
>>

Too bad you missed the 12 buck deal. I think it's worth the money, and if you pirate you'll be making one of the arguably best features much more difficult to take advantage of (modding). But it's up to you. The framerate has improved past release, though if you don't have a good system it's still notable. The games unresponsiveness (built in delays) is mostly resolved by mods

I would agree if XCOM 2 had an expansion, but no, it doesnt have an expansion of the size of EW.

Its like if you were saying that god damn EU was better than XCOM 2, the base content of the vanilla game is miles better than EU and a few steps from begin near EW tier.

Lets wait for the expansion first.

>LW2 turned out to be worse than LW1
>a mod that took years of alpha/beta testing is better than a mod that took months of alpha and then beta testing
>a mod that is still begin worked on and is waiting for probably the expansion to come out into play

okay, well, I'm drunk, kinda high. I feel really bad for not subscribing to last months humble bundle shit (which included x-com 2 for free) and wish I had done so. I really want X-com2, pirated them both and was really shocked to see how attached I had become to the characters I had created.. I even spent like 40 min or so creating bio's for certain soldiers (knowing that I'd be the only one to ever read/see them). I'm only making this post because literally all my threads would 404 without any responses, but I'm willing to TRADE for it right here and now for it if anyone that is willing.. I just ask that you take a look at my steam inventory and tell me what you want in exchange for it.

Here is my steam
http://steamcommunity.com/id/MrScrappz/

(Had a dude that looked like guile with sunglasses from street fighter as like the "veteran" of my squad, I had to reformat my computer very recently and only now realized how much I missed all these soldiers I had created, and hero's I let die and how many times I'd save scum just to make sure certain peeps would make it through to see the very end of this story.)

Sorry for the long post, Told you niggas I was drunk/high. first time posting in one of these threads btw

Tl;DR: I'm willing to trade some shit for X-com 2 via steam, look at my inventory and message me if you want to trade? Don't be shy, if I'm not cool /w said trade, then I'll be cool about it and try my hardest not to make the situation weird, digg? Hit me up.

Once you make someone an officer they no longer can upgrade normally correct? As in they won't level up any of their previous tree abilities and must go to officer training.

If so, when would be the best time to send someone to officer school? I sent my medic specialist to GTS officer training a little too early in his career and feel like I dun goofed.

Now there's a bright idea to submit to Lump and the Fun Bunch. Have different classes do different things while as Advisor. Nothing serious, mind you, but little stuff like having Shinobis oust Faceless a bit faster, or have Rangers give a small increase to how quickly resistance members level up. I'd need to think about what other classes would do, but little details like that make these kind of games so much cooler.

not sure if either of you are still around but there's a chance per day that a faceless is recruited to any haven you haven't contacted, along with chances to recruit or lose regular resistance members(can't lose faceless). For the advent tower raid (LW2), how long does the timer for the mission last? It says it has infinite duration on the infiltration. Im wonder because lasers finish in like 6 days and I don't want to miss out on Liberation 4. I have a good squad of all SGT and 1 1LT. I want to have the lasers to make sure I can win against the infinite reinforcements until I can hack the data with my shinobi.

What are your guys 5 man comps for this mission?

Shinobi, medical spec officer, assault (trench gun is great on this mission), sniper and ranger.

The last two need to be fairly developed to be useful. Also, my ranger had serial from the Awc, which made mopping up the stunned enemies a fucking cakewalk.

Put a skeleton suit on your Shinobi if you can, and make sure they have covert+ghostwalker so they can breeze to the console.
>>
>>168894516
>>168894516
Oh cool. Thanks bro.

What was your 5 man team for the job? I'm thinking of employing my SGT Sharpshooter, a SGT Ranger, SGT Technical, SGT Shinobi and a 1LT Specialist/Medic officer. My plan is to perch the sharpshooter as far back as I can while maintaining squadsight from my ghost specced shinobi while he infiltrates the tower to shut off the reinforcements, with the remainder of the squad pushed ahead of the sharpshooter but maintaining distance from the tower.

This game I got pretty lucky and managed to detect all the liberation missions prior to April 1st, and have a pretty good supply count due to discovering a Light-Moderate supply raid with a ~5d16h timer that I boosted to 147% infiltration.
>>
>>168895152

I'm still pretty early on into the game, so i don't have those techs yet. With me being this early on, should I attempt the tower now or wait until I have unlocked more stuff?
>>
>tfw no mod where you can brrrrrrrrt ayy lmaos
>>
>>168895709
That would be pretty legit though. Call in air support from the skyranger or some shit
>>
>>168895245
My squad last time was an assault, specialist, technical, grenades and a gunner. In retrospect I think bringing a stealth specialist shinobi instead of the technical would be wise.
>>
>>168895337
It depends on your appetite for risk. It's doable with laser weapons/Kevlar, if you play your cards right and do it at low advent strength and early enough in the game. That way you'll have one muton be the scariest thing on the map, and then a bunch of advent basic goons.

Shinobi with ghostwalker/covert and no grapple is still good, you just have to be more careful getting them to the console. Ghostwalker means you won't get detected while it's active unless you're standing right next to them.

I don't recommend rangers or snipers for an early network tower though. Assaults are excellent for the mop up stage, take a gunner and a support grenadier in case you have to slog it out a bit.

Thanks bros. Yeah this game I have right now is a really lucky run, my advent strength is only at 1 right now. So I definetely think I can take on the advent tower this early on even without lasers, so I'll go for it once I get a chance. I'll probably swap out a sharpshooter for my CPL assault or a gunner, I did have pretty bad luck with my early game recruits having weak stats but my MVP team is pretty intense. Almost all of them have 65+ base aim, 40+ Will, 5-10 dodge and at least +2 defense.

Does chance to hit increase as you move towards a target (final location) or does it begin from where you first moved? How does the math calculate CtH in LW2? From my experience moving blue away from the OW tends to yield a lot more likely of a chance to not get hit as opposed to moving towards a target. Obviously perks like Lightning Reflexes skews the math calculations in a way, but in the end I never really trust Perfect Information in providing a realistic CtH %

For LW2, I'm using:

No Drop Down Lists (http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=865667559): Makes selecting your training mooks so much more convenient, see all the stats instead of just wondering who the fuck that is by name.

LW ShowMeTheSkills Revived (http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=861432746): Shows you the skills. No need to open up each soldier individually to see what they're for.

Gotcha Again (http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=866874504&searchtext=): Like the original Gotcha, adds Flank Previews, and Squadsight previews to the reticle, as well as a bunch of other stuff (hacking previews!).

You want to be going on missions with 100% infiltration early game pretty much always. Put everyone of your rebels at the Haven on Intel of the first month and scan at the region as well (contributes to intel score) Intel gives you better chances of getting good missions with good infiltration timers. Build GTS right away and research modular weapons and work your way towards laser weapons.

Officers are important, you can train rookies, you can buy the squad upgrades, and I think it lets you use the PCS upgrades in LW.
The AWC is good for wounds, but you have larger roster, so earlygame this is not as important, and AWC skills take time train that you may not have. Also you need a scientists for the wound healing which you don't have right away and retraining does not matter early game.

I think I might go back to modded vanilla, I'm so fucking sick of this yellow alert bullshit. It's like the game is still set up so that alpha striking is super important, but explosives fucking suck so you can't kill them in cover(even with the grenadier cover destruction perk which doesn't do jack) easily, and you can't flank because the importance of restricting vision to avoid pods is even more paramount because now they can overwatch and all kinds of bullshit when they wander in. What am I missing that makes Long War worth playing(other than git good)?

So I'm playing LW2 and I'm not clear what people mean by Yellow Alert - but then, I changed it so timers are 13 base for all mission types.

Is it when you're low on turns left, they can attack/overwatch on discovery?

If that's the case, try doing what I did - set the turns to 13 for all timed missions. I still feel like I have to keep my troops moving (can't just sit on ogrewatch forever), but I don't feel like I have to bum rush just to complete a mission. I've having tons of fun with LW2.

13 might be slightly too much; I've never run out of time except for one early-game mission with a gigantic map, but that's tweakable to your likes and desires.

Yellow alert means that once the fighting starts, pods can patrol into (1 move), blue move (2 moves), and then shoot at you (3 moves) at all the same time.

>>

>>168931665
I've added 4 to all timers already, it's just that I'm stuck on my first supply raid where I have a lcpl grenadier with sapper and a technical, but all these fucking trees make it impossible to kill anything reliably. At first I went in to it swarming with a full squad because I heard thats what your supposed to do, but it was basically impossible because I would be boxed in by 2 pods of 8 with high ground on me and no matter how much save scumming I would get fucked. Then I went in with a squad of 6 and it's easier, but I'm just getting hit through full cover left and right and the pods keep coming in.

I'm just going to restart the mission and see if I can set up better.
>>
>>168905207
Several things affect the probability of an Overwatch shot hitting or missing. A full yellow-move dash slightly reduces the CtH, as does cover if it happens to be applicable to you in relation to the shooter when the Overwatch shot in question is triggered.

> I never really trust Perfect Information
Good policy.
>>
>>168932538
No, it happens in LW2 whenever your squad is not concealed and has been making noise (such as by fighting another pod). It's a LW2 thing only.
>>
>>168932578

The early game isn't too bad in LW2, but the early-mid gets quite tough when you still have low aim, and few weapons and armor upgrades, since cover destruction isn't reliable. Once you get promotions and better weapons and armor, it'll get easier again when you can get flanks and kills through cover. You can't really rely on cover destruction though.
>>
>>168932817

That's really weird because I have been playing LW2 for a while, and I haven't had pods patrol into me and attack at all.
>>
>>168932997
Have you seen them patrol into you and immediately overwatch? Same effect. Have you seen sectoids use reanimate from fog of war before you find their pod? Same effect. You have almost certainly seen it already just don't recognize the effect.
>>
>3 shinobi + specialist stealth missions in a row

real fun game, lump
>>
>>168932538
When a mission starts with you in concealment, the enemies are considered to be on Blue Alert. If you observe them, they walk from point to point, and if they activate on you while in Blue Alert, they will respond as standard, with perhaps a small chance per unit of taking a defensive action, such as Overwatch.

After concealment is broken, it's a safe bet that any other pod will be on Yellow Alert, but this is not always the case. Yellow Alert is triggered by enemies hearing noise (gunfire, explosions, yelling civilians), or from them spotting a dead body. When a pod in Yellow Alert activates, the chances for actions are higher, with the possibility that said Alert actions can be offensive instead of defensive.

How do you counteract this? One word. Recon. Recon is king. If a pod is far enough away from you when you ambush another pod, depending on the actions you take, the other pod may not even hear you, and thus stay in Blue Alert status. Shotguns and Cannons are the loudest guns, while Suppressors lower the noise range for ANY gun. Flamethrowers are fairly quiet, Grenades are much louder, and Rockets are loud enough to send every pod on the map headed in your direction on Yellow Alert.
>>
>>168933334

I've had MECs go on overwatch, but I don't recall standard enemies do it. Occasional Sectoids have done their thing though.

I'm playing on Rookie; does that affect it?
>>
>>168934191
Possible that the chances are lower or disabled on Rookie, yeah.
>>
>>168934448
If I remember right the ini setting for rookie makes the chance of the yellow move zero. It's 20% by default on all other difficulties
>>

>>

>>
>>168944248
Gunners are great because they can suppress multiple targets, which is very good if you get stuck with one or two plebs on a Rendezvous and can only kill one guy per turn. Rangers have dat sweet burst damage from Point-Blank and Double Barrels, Assaults are good because Assaults are always good, and Technicals can light shit on fire when you really need to light shit on fire.

I'd say Grenadiers are the worst class to use as Advisor, simply because their utility just isn't cut out for dealing with Faceless or protecting rookies, unless you spec for Rap. Dep. and Sting Grenades.

"friendly skies"
"disable repair"
stupid questions here since i haven't touched lw1 in forever and even X1 is feeling alien to me
friendly skies would mean less ufos
and disable repair affects what the planes?
>>
>>168981060
You probably shouldn't be playing impossible if you remember that little.

Friendly skies doesn't reduce the amount of UFOs. It makes your interceptors stronger, mainly more accurate. In normal LW the airgame is a source of uncertainty, some months you kill more UFOs than others, sometimes you get more cash and missions, other times less. This makes the strategy layer a bit more varied, and you have to make tradeoffs between air and ground investment. Some people don't like the uncertainty though, so friendly skies lets them have a far more reliable stronger airgame.

Repair is a mechanic where if your soldier gets hospitalized, some of his gear from that mission has a small chance of being damaged. It costs a token amount of resources and some time to repair it. It's a way to introduce uncertainty to the tactical layer, for example rarely your gauss long rifle will be out of commission for two weeks and you need to find a way to deal with mechanized enemies without it and adjust your squad composition accordingly. Again, some don't like the uncertainty so they disable it.

Assaults do flames better, grenadiers have cover destruction and tactical flexibility on top of that. Technicals literally can't compete. Early game crutch that only ended up being wasted XP in my last campaign.

Except maybe her. She's ok. She got jolly cooperator from Potentials and serves drinks in the bar now, crew already loves her too much. 17 mob making her fast enough to use a shotgun doesn't hurt either.

I wish there were armor mods that made your units look like that. At least that's how I imagine resistance fighters to look like on neo-future Earth.

Narratively I imagine all my guys being ex-SF units scattered across the different countries of the planet, united together to fight ayys. I tend to use their origin countries military patterns for each new recruit.

>>168994230

Bro technicals are fucking boss as shit, what do you spec them as? I usually flamer spec at least one (Roust is nice for ranged hits since it's targeting range is like 15 tiles, as well as panicing) and another for rocketing. Shit is nice later on if you do good team cohesion plays like using a sapper charge grenadier to blow cover then rocket following through the openening.

How the hell do people find the patience to get past the early parts of Legendary difficulty? The weakest enemy units have 4 health, your standard weapon does 3-5, you have to roll for a hit and then roll a 66% chance to actually kill. That kind of extra layer of RNG is infuriating to me. I know it gets better later on but such a fucking hurdle right from the start.
>>
>>169001990
>The weakest enemy units have 4 health, your standard weapon does 3-5
It's the same in Commander you know.
>>
>>168999380
I go half and half on the tree, I don't use roust but do pick up some flame perks so it isn't basically a dead turn to use the flamer midgame.

>>169001348
I don't think it needs a replacement, I just use the other classes. Even on 10-man missions where I have extra room and could bring a technical, I realize I could just throw in another ranger reliably smashing targets through full cover and then taking 3 overwatch shots per turn, and make the obvious choice. Technical being redundant wouldn't be a problem if it were competitive, it just needs a boost to keep up with anyone else.
>>
>>169005245
I do think technicals need a buff actually, because they do fall off pretty hard. I find the fact that they only get one rocket kind of bizarre. Flamethrower needs more range even if it has to be nerfed in some other way (though I reallly don't see why). If I could, I would change that perk that panics or disorients enemies to guarantee your targets get set on fire. Might be too strong, but it is a flamethrower you know. Leave chance of burning to the ammo.
>>
>>169001990
if you think that's bad then you should have played EW I/I

Base damage was 2-4 and sectoids started with 4 health.
>>
>>169005662
Having the extra rocket loadout from EU/EW long war would probably make all the difference for me. One extra normal load and one shredder for -2 weight each, along with the regular rocket and shredder from perk, would be borderline overpowered but satisfying and fun. Honestly not sure why they didn't just do that other than the "if the player wins, the dev loses" meme.

It wouldnt be as bad for me, the whole modding is part of self-invented therapy, but Im just curious, if I should even try to balance skillsets for new classes.

>>
>>169023576

>>
>>169024953
Yeah I agree.
They just took it too far. A bit of minimalism would improve X1's UI (especially the health bars), but I would take XCOM 1's UI over X2 any day.
Plus the F1 feature doesn't unclutter the UI at all, and it give you all the information you need without having to check different parts of your screen and hover over small sections. Not to mention you can't even view perks in X2 (very annoying for anything that adds custom enemies).
