Fuck easy mode. After doing the early game grind on 5 different worlds, I just started unlocking all the researches and setting my taint to 0 with console commands. That part of the game was fun for a time (and I may even turn it back on again at some point), but now I just want to build cool magic shit.

Can someone recommend me a non-traditional modpack that requires you to explore other mods than the currently popular ones? I've gotten bored of the usual steps of:
1. Grind TiCon hammer
2. Grind EnderIO/Thermal Expansion/Generic_Tech_Mod_#472834 machines

etcetc.

Preferably something with Immersive Engineering, that mod looks fun.

You're right, but it's shitty and I still can't get a solid answer on which version of Guide API I should use to avoid the problem in pic related.

It's pretty telling of the state of the modding community that modders can't get together and agree on a standardized way to document features in-game. Too busy fighting each other for Patreon bux and Leddit gold to talk to each other I guess.

Immersive Engineering is the only "unique" mod I know about, that's why I'm asking if there are any modpacks that use it along with other lesser known mods, because surprise suprise, I don't know about lesser known mods.

After leaving through the bottom hatch (and almost drowning in the process), I learn that there is no land. I'm expected to make my living out of the shipwreck. Guess I shouldn't have punched all that shit out, but live and learn I suppose.

Since the other anon hasn't named pretty much anything concrete, I'll point out that I've been trying to do some research on modders who are still around for 1.10+:

- The only mods I can name which are not on CurseForge yet "reasonably popular in the Western modding scene" right now are Dragon Mounts, FoamFix, OptiFine and Xaero's Minimap - out of those, three use some kind of ad-based link system and one was never allowed in modpacks in the first place. (Mekanism does not count as it has pledged to move to CurseForge ASAP, although currently it does use ad-based links - combined with a premium account system for capes and direct links - as of right now)
- Modders who are still active, although not popular/available on 1.10+, and don't use CurseForge or ads are GregoriousT (GregTech 6; GT5U is on CF) and TerraFirmaCraft's development team.

Is there anyone I've missed? Note that for the purposes of this exercise mods which do not have a community presence (such as copygirl's WearableBackpacks, which is a very nice mod by the way) or aren't part of the "Western modding community" (mcbbs/minecraftuser.jp) are not counted simply because (a) there's too many "mods which are too niche to be known" to count, and (b) Eastern modding cultures differ greatly from our own.

I haven't played Minecraft in a while and I kinda want to try that BiomeBundle mod because it seems to generate far more interesting terrain.

But I'm also looking for some recommendations for mods that improve exploration and survival, or at least give me a good way to travel. Not much point spending a bunch of time building an expansive base if I'm gonna be travelling far away exploring new biomes.

Exploration mods are hard to come by, mostly because you have to put in the work yourself to actually get interesting worldgen.
Recurrent complex is a mod that can be used to dynamically add worldgen of various types, I'm sure you could find structure files out there.
Stuff like roguelike dungeons is okay if you're a lazy cunt.

For survival, you could go with one of the big overhauls, like TFC or better than wolves/better with mods.
If you want a different experiance, you'll have to pick and choose, and configure - aka put forth effort - with something like enviromine, spice of life, or one of the other survival things that no one really cares about.

Despite what vanilla appears to be, modded minecraft is not very suited to a survival game.

You're a fucking brainlet you know that. BC pipes have been around for around six fucking years now.
Not having even the most basic information about them from LPs, kitchen sink packs, anywhere on the internet where modded minecraft is discussed is as unacceptable as you claim BC pipes to be. Being utterly unaware of the basics; overflow, buffer, looping, pipe automation -- is massively ignorant.
The pipes are simple tools you put together to make a greater construct.
Routing is done by diamond pipe. It is not hard to figure out it has a simple GUI. Regular pipes don't round robin, but a config-free diamond pipe should round-robin. Additional Buildcraft Objects has a light-weight round-robin transport pipe.
Overflow is literally your own fault. Other pipes don't overflow to make things EASIER on YOU, at the sacrifice of tools and utilities in pipe networks. If you can't figure out a simple loopback system (literally looping the piping back to your input) or buffer overflow control (read: a chest on top of a fucking hopper) you are completely useless.
I don't care how much easier Thermal Dynamics ducts are. I don't care how utterly thought-free EnderIO conduits are. If you cannot figure out basic pipe networks with Buildcraft pipes you're goddamn hopeless. It is SIMPLE. The only limitation is YOU.

no, go put a cork in your skull to keep the cotton candy from leaking out and learn how Gates work. Autarchic pulsers compact the redstone engine setup onto the pipe, and pipe gates have a vast usage on all pipes and across other mods. Here's a good resource for learning to start out.

That's an angry post. Why don't you backpedal a bit, assume I know all about how BC pipes work, and am talking about how poorly designed they are from a gameplay standpoint. In other words, they teach you nothing about how to use them, and they offer very few interesting decisions.

I thought you knew how to use BC pipes? A loopback system that points back to the chest will eventually overflow the source chest rather than the destination. A loopback that is just a circle of pipes will eventually explode a pipe due to the item limit.

The correct way to do the "as needed" part of "move items from A to B as needed" is to put a pulsar gate on the source inventory, and any gate on the destination; set the destination gate to "inventory >50% -> signal"; set the source gate to "no signal -> pulsar"; and connect the two with pipe wire. How is the player meant to learn this? Furthermore, why does he need to mine a bunch of diamonds and obsidian, kill a bunch of endermen, and generate hundreds of thousands of RF before he can deploy even this basic functionality that comes for free with hoppers any other item pipe? Is this supposed to be good design, or just added greg-style tedium?

Strong points would be the absolute precision and control it gives in conjuction with gates, especially valuable when you're dealing with a very slow coming supply of stuff that needs to be carefully routed between numerous places. Just standing and watching your whole set up lighting and dimming wires in sequence, filling and emptying tanks between pipes with gates flashing and opening\shutting down animated pumps and shit is glorious but fuck i would just outright marry BC if the mod got some facelift and pipes got some more pleasing models and bells and whistles

You're right anon. There are a lot of poor design choices in BC pipes, and a lot of them have no in-game method of conveying information to the player.

BC needs an overhaul regarding conveying information to the player, design of 'progression' through its pipes and gates, and maybe some extra tooltips on a handful of its GUIs. But an in-game book would be a good start on getting information to the player because there are NO ways for someone to learn how, for example, a filter-free diamond pipe works versus a filtered pipe, or what the functional difference between wood pipe and emerald pipe is, etc.

Enhances Inventories is pretty great despite looking out of place, you can upgrade chests into them and them as well just like Iron Chests. They also have scrollbars for when chests get too big, and you can put two chests or lockers side-by-side unlike iron chests (you can also craft alternate chests that don't connect).
The only issue I have with that mod is how ugly those 32x decorations look. The wood textures can even be customizes as anything, but the borders of the chests look like absolute shit.

Speaking of Techguns, if anyone wants the lowered volume sound files, I have them.

They can be farmed with coal/charcoal, and are not hostile. They also drop meat that can make you fire resistant as well as magma creams, only the meat is immune to burning in the lava of course.

This shade is a pretty decent battle mount. Capable of swimming and it's special ability inflicts fear.

Maybe SkyFactory wasn't the first thing I should have started playing after not playing Minecraft for 2-2.5 years. The mods have come a long way but goddamn it's hard to figure out all the fucking mechanics in them. Plus sky factory 3 doesn't have much info on it overall.

Also I have never set up a mob spawner in my life, so I need to work out how to do that as well because cobble to gravel to sand to dust is tedious, and I'm sure there is a cheaper/faster/more automated way but it's a nightmare figuring out which mod/mod chain would do it.

Is there a way I can spawn passive mobs? And if so, what's the best way to "Store" them before breeding them? I'm assuming not having a shit ton of chunks means spawning passives is tough.

Been out of the loop a while, but it seems not many people care about TFC/TFC Reloaded.

Looking for some advice though, I'm up to the Iron Age in both my offline and livestream saves, though my offline save has had more time to get more Iron. I've seen that Blaze Powder (or Scapolite dust as it's referred to by TFC) is available but without access to the Nether, it's not available. Thing with TFC Reloaded is that it APPEARS to be that Nether Portals work and the Nether is accessible, but Portals are placed above the Bedrock ceiling. What would be a legitimate way of breaking through the Bedrock? I don't think any of the trees grow below the dirt at all in TFC nor does Bonemeal work, so the old Tree method won't work.
