I'm finally getting around to ME3 after several years. I've had people tell me to pick up EGM. Is it recommended I vanilla it or is it a fine addition?

Should I get anything else?

EGM is a kind of a mixed bag. It adds a lot of dumb scanning shit and poorly written text quests, but it also adds neat stuff like all the mp armors and a shooting gallery on the ship. I'd say you're fine just playing vanilla / texture mods only.

EGM is a mixed bag. It has some decent stuff (like the additional emails or shooting galleries on the shoot) but I find many of its additions (like re-adding ME2 squadmates, as mobile turrets with no dialogue) totally unnecessary and/or too incomplete to be bothered with.

As for other mods, the only ones I'd heartily recommend are the Citadel Epilogue Mod + JohnP Alternate ending Mod.

I generally don't do fantasy games, so Dragon Age doesn't have any bearing on what I think. I did play some of DAI and considered it fine, but I didn't like that gameplay style which was nothing like ME. Other than the gameplay it was pretty solid, just not my kind of thing generally.

You get 24 hours from the first time you run it. So that's an easy 10-12 of actual play, more if you really stretch it. But I figure if you're so into it you'd pull an all-nighter to get the maximum hours into it, you wouldn't be looking to return it at that point.

The ending was the worst part of ME3, but they at least added some content to try and fix it. Kai Leng is arguably the second worst part of the game. Whoever was in charge of writing him needs to be shot.

In general. Visuals/sound it was strong, Frostbite games look good. Especially compared to the busted old shit ME had been running on. Liked the characters and writing well enough, when it was main story or character missions or whatever. Fetch quest grind in that game looked lame but I didn't play it enough to get stuck in that muck anyway. I thought that War Room mechanic actually did a decent job of illusion of usefulness, compared to ME3's War Assets system which just came out as an extra codex with numbers attached.

Honestly, DAI felt to me like ME1 - I'd play more of it if I could completely remove the actual combat gameplay aspect. Even on minimum difficulty the combat just made me want to be doing anything else.

Visuals were OK, though nothing groundbreaking. I didn't like any of the characters. Everyone seemed so reserved and nothing thought provoking came out of them, very one dimensional and superficial. Less personality than Jacob/Kaidan, always careful not to step on anyone's toes, no real conflict, just a very tight hugbox. Hated that. Quests were a mess. One of the early quests that had me fetch resources to upgrade my troops armor, had me going through an area that progressed the main quest, that also prevented a certain type of enemy to spawn that dropped a different type of material that I would need for the third part of the quest to upgrade my troops armor. Terrible design. The War Room, to me, felt redundant. Sending your party members to do missions did not actually keep them occupied for the duration of said mission and the real time timer on them didn't help them much. Beats the War Asset system just by the fact that it's there.

From what I've seen of ME:A combat, it is very similar to DA:I with the exception of guns. Also, the strategic view in DA:I was a mess. Don't know if they patched it to a playable level somewhere down the road, but just terrible implementation. Combat in general was just waiting to press a hotkey and win, though, so ... yeah, it sucked.

Citadel was a couple of missions padding some fan service-y shit with three lines of dialog per character and Leviathan had two good missions before it devolved into wave combat. The woman in charge of colony logistic and the woman krogan in charge of Nexus engineering were revealed on the official website and twitter. They've mentioned in previews that you have to go hunt supplies for the colonies and you have to decide who gets them (choose to send them to the human colony or appease Drack and send them to the Krogan remnants). In the last cinematic trailer they mentioned the bit about the arks or Nexus running out of power. I'm assuming they mean the Nexus because the Nexus is incomplete without the arks according to the intel briefings.

I haven't payed much attention to Mass Effect: Andromeda, and I really only knew light details about it. I thought since it was another Mass Effect game it was going to be a guaranteed first week purchase for me, but now after being on here, well, I don't know anymore. Am I going to be playing a fun Mass Effect and explore cool worlds, or am I in for weird garbage that doesn't even feel like ME? I don't know, I don't even know who is even left from the original dev teams.
