Deathgaze is the earth are break defense down card right? Yes, it is excellent for specialized earth decks that also have another Earth attack card in them. You might use a deck like that in multiplayer or the Lagoon.

For general purpose autobattle decks, you want Brothers or Hollofernyiges as your earth card because it's more damage focused, and thief gets a higher earth damage bonus. The 8 orb cost cards like Brothers cost 7 orbs at 4* and 6 orbs at 5*. It's easier for ranger-types to get orbs back vs swarms of enemies because the critical retrieval extra skill activates for every enemy crit.

All of this is assuming you have infinite ability tickets, though. If you happen to get a 4* Deathgaze from a gacha draw and you have other things you have to spend tickets and growstars on, absolutely use and augment Deathgaze for your general-purpose deck.

Unfortunately not so much.
He has Dual Black Magic like Slut Fina and Exdsudesu, but unlike them has neither Meteor nor Ultima. Just Fir/Thund/Blizz/Aero-ga and Flare for Dualcasting purposes, which is... Meh.

He has AoE Stop but 30% is pretty shit desu, especially since it's plain Stop, no damage unlike Noctis' Blizzard Flask.

As for abilities he has Hellfire, ST Fire elemental with x2 multiplier that increases by x2 for a maximum of 10 times. Gimmicky, could be fun against a fire-weak opponent.
Starfall is a non-elemental AoE x2,3 with 50% spr ignore. Pretty nice.

Has few passive tbqh, and a handful of kind of gimmicky boosting abilities which are ok.

Best mage TM even in JP.

Too bad he's kinda mediocre since I fucking love the EMPRAH - but fuck it, I'll do a x11 nonetheless because I like him.

I just returned to RK after, what 6 or 8 months?
So much as been added. Some SB that can break damage cap. Lv cap is now 99 (Oh boy, I'm not hype about this). There's multiplayer. The whole nightmare dungeons stuff is probably done with, I think (I think we were like halfway there when I left). There's probably 999 new abilities.

Hot fuck what do I even go for right now? My plan is currently doing the shittier levels of this FFI event to steal some Myth and then maybe some story for the same purpose so I can draw on that FFVII Lucky Banner before it leaves in about two days, then run off to that other Lucky Banner with three FFs in it.

Any hints on what else I could or should be focusing right now to get up to speed and git gud?

So, nightmare is up to the final nightmare when it opens up again later this month. You can take your time with that as you please. If you have a mage team, you will want to pick up Meltdown.

Assuming you had some high level people before, you should be able to complete almost all of the FF1 event. The enemies are very weak since there is so little synergy for it, and they either have an elemental or status weakness.

You need a hastega+boostga or need to RW it.
I would kick Terra and get Yshtola in and RW Shout and with the 2 healers you will probably be unkillable. Ysh can also SUP4 if that's better for you.
If you have a native Haste+ATK boost kick Terra and use it and RW whatever the fight requires.

This is bad advice. The FFVII banner is actually pretty bad with some nice relics on it.
The other Lucky is a little better, but also has a lot of duds.
In this case I would skip FFVII and draw on the DU Lucky.
Make sure to have at least 75 mythril till the midle of March as we will get 3 Lucky Draws each for 24 hours. You will definitely need to draw on the 1st (Curaga Medica only) and 3rd one(BSB only), you can consider to skip the 2nd(EnElement only, including some shitty uniques).
And then the anniversary banners are bound to contain very good items as well as there being an Ultros Banner with community selected relics, so hopefull small amount of dumbfucks filled out the survey so we can get a top tier banner.

As far as the part about grinding goes, there is no consistent good way outside of sunday XP dungeons. Generally, the realm dungeons are good for the mythril and whatever orbs you can pick up, but you wouldn't want to repeat them. The good grinding is usually during an orb fest, the next one of which shouldn't be all that far off, or the occasional event dungeon that gives a little extra XP and has some kind of grindable drop like the Onion Knight thing a while back.

Honestly, I thought everyone in 12 was a decent character on their own and made better by how they're all coupled together for some reason. Vaan is a little bitch but he plays his part well as a little bitch. Same with Penelo and together they're like brother and sister with her telling Vaan to stop being a bitch ass fuck. Ash and Bash are a nice way to have an unconventional princess and knight thing and finding Basch in that cage was really cool. Balthier and Fran are so underrated as a duo desu and I think they're the most well done couple/friendship/partners in the series tbqhimho. Penelo does fucking nothing all game. Vaan was a last-minute main character replacement because Basche wasn't pretty enough, meaning that half of Basche's story got shifted to happen in-between cutscenes. Vaan literally goes from hating the man for being the dick who killed his brother to trusting that he didn't do it in under 5 minutes.

Ashe was pretty good but that's because she's one of the few people to actually do anything in the plot, because it all revolves around her. Balthier would be better except, as usual, Vaan steals half his thunder by doing all the shit that Balthier would do if he was actually a main character instead of just saying he's a 'leading man' over and over again and occasionally deus exing some machina. The fact that he's legitimately the closest character to the plot-relevant stuff makes my head spin with how hard he resisted being a main character in the game at all, he had to be bribed into helping every step of the way.

Fran was cool, she's a sexy Chewbacca who could be replaced with a potted plant that's sensitive to mist but fanservice is always good.

FFXII is one of the shittiest games in the series and I don't know why people like it, a halfway decent combat system (that you automate for best value) and a fuckton of things to do in the world (that has nothing to do with the plot and completely fucks the game's pacing) don't make up for a bunch of wooden assholes for characters.

I've been playing for about 2 months now, and I'm at 119 stamina. Long gone are the days where I could just sit there getting 5 shards continuously. However, I'm still interested enough to keep progressing and hopefully max out a few XIII waifus.
