There is a 1vs1 mode, and on PC, during the beta, in most 2vs2 brawl matches if one guy dies his killer will, instead of ganking, wait for you to finish your fight with his teammate before he jumps in to duel you. Who knows if this behaviour is PC exclusive or beta exclusive, however.

That depends. Some maps have little to no environmental hazards and people have no choice to duel you with only their characters skill set. However many maps have hazards that can result in insta kills that shitters can and will abuse, or even good players if they feel like being a dick. It's really a matter of personal taste
