I personally never found a problem dealing with Takumi in areas. Hector on the other hand would completely ruin me due to the lack of a good red unit, though.

Fates' plot does have a few slivers of brilliance here and there, so I believe some of the draft is still in there, just completely butchered by Nami Komuro, who is credited as main scenario and character planning. Nami Komuro's only other credit is Awakening (bet you weren't expecting that).

Also not sure if true but I've heard that Hinoka didn't exist in the original draft and was basically created for symmetry between the royal families. Would explain why she's basically nonexistent in Birthright.

Having too many important characters. In previous games you'd have one lord, maybe two, and 2-3 really important characters, and the rest were all "equal" so to speak so people would actually go for their favorite. Fates has an avatar (With two versions for each gender), 9 siblings, and one maid and butler, who all are heavily marketed and appear frequently in cutscenes. The top 6 of both these polls are filled with these characters, the only outlier being Oboro.

Robin's stats are nothing to write home about, his appeal's in neutering taco and while also being a ranged option against all the melee reds. Shareena does some good shit with Tharja though, so she'd be good if you have an answer for those aforementioned threats.

This is my latest one from just now actually. I guess I can't complain anymore.

My 5* characters now are Takumi, Elise, Robin and Tiki.

Why is Tiki so much better than Nowi? I've been using the latter because she can counterattack at any range, but now that I have Tiki I might start using her. Her heals are kind of useful but also kind of situational since you do have to put your characters nearby, which might put them at risk if Tiki can't finish something off.

Robin I'm gonna use, since my only other good mage is Lilima (who's proved excellent as a nuke but kind of slow), and also because his weapon hits Takumis for super effective damage.

I think Camilla and Elise would still be up there regardless because Japan loves their big titty onee-sans/kawaii loli imoutos, but I question Azura's and Hinoka's placements. Azura is the big co-main character and main characters always do well, and Hinoka still gets credentials even if she is pretty lacking in many ways.

I was rather surprised that Felicia placed so low in part for that reason, and also because I figured clumsy moe would be an easy mark.

Aside from having unrealistic and shitty support conversations, I feel it's a waste of effort too. I'd rather have more same-sex supports that help with character development instead.

With Distant Counter, Hector is much better at dealing with ranged units that aren't Red Mages. Both Tharja and Hector can destroy Takumi swiftly but Tharja does get hurt quite a bit in the process, which helps when Vengeance activates for her. Melee Reds usually gets nuked by Tharja before they can do anything and if they have better Res than Def Sharena is there to take hits and hurt them badly, and she's fast and tanky enough to not get completely BTFO.

My answer for Robin is usually Hector since mine is +Res which is honestly pretty good. He also rapes healers and resistant Grey units hard. Most green Mages I encounter are Ninos which usually gets rekt by Tharja anyways. So yeah Robin really has no place on my team, especially now that I have a 4* aurabot Jeorge (he's -Spd which is why he's shit) with his Spd buffs and Atk debuffs.

I like Leo because he seems relatively competent against most of the cast. He cheats to get around Garon's orders while still looking obedient. He has the same sorts of hangups as Takumi but he doesn't get consumed by them. Then he puts his clothes on backwards and comes up with the easiest to cheese map in the game, but you can't win 'em all, I guess.

If nothing else I liked his design, although it feels like a waste to have an armored mage with sword skills and then still give him noodle arms. I have the same complaint about Camilla being a potentially interesting hybrid class that's terrible at magic, but at least she's useful other than that. I realize the game would be unbalanced if he was good at everything, but did he have to be slow on top of magic in general being mediocre?
