Hek is an excellent shotgun. I still use mine in sorties/near end game, it's an absolute beast.

Just get what you want and go through the content. You'll get mastery for levelling up weapons, but you need a solid gun to farm the mats with. Grab a Hek, and see if you can get Scattered Justice because that mod makes it fucking insanely good.

This is the point where having mag would actually have been pretty good. The MKs and skana are designed to fall off. You have to craft some new weapons. You can buy a Strun directly from the market for credits or you can craft the boltor, hek, tetra, karak or grakata. Those should be easy enough for you to get. For secondaries buy a lex or craft a sonicor(highly recommend), a single viper, a single furis.

For mods guns want Pure Damage, Multishot and Elemental Damage. Those are the bare necessities. Each gun may have some secondary wants. Some guns want crit but not all, some guns want punch through but not all, some guns want negative accuracy but not all. Some guns may need ammo mutation to keep them topped off. You're not going to put a catalyst or forma in most of these weapons since most of them are outclassed so you won't get the full build experience untill later on.

Melees want Damage, Attack Speed and Elements. Crit if they have crit. There are very high tier melee mods which do a number of unique things but you shouldn't worry about those for now since they're very specific to get. Stances adding an entirely new level of grind on top of that.

Start with Point Blank, Hell's Chamber, Scattered Justice and Contagious Spread/Charged Shell.

The bog standard Hek isn't a crit weapon nor your status shotgun, you build it for massive upfront damage and ridiculous multishot. Get Scattered Justice as soon as possible because it's ridiculously good. Corrosive is a good type to use because it's generally all around solid, it shreds Grineer and Ancients and when it comes to Corpus, you deal so much damage you don't give a shit.

After that you probably need to forma it, but I consider Point Blank/Hell's Chamber/Scattered Justice mandatory for any Hek build.

Easiest way to get in there is as a buff rhino, desu. Just equip corrosive projection, duration and str and look for groups.

If you plan to get an EV trin running for those, keep in mind Saryn and Equinox are the easiest to keep up with, followed with Banshee (EV twice when she's back up from doing wubwubs), followed by Rhino, Mag and Nezha - those fuckers kill shit too fast for you to EV sometimes and you'll probably need to drop pads.

Also don't set your banshee up for it just yet, prime is coming up soon.

you could argue that you'll always have room for it, in either viral/heat or corrosive/cold builds, but not every setup allows for more than two elements - rivens only further complicate the issue

Unpopular opinion time:
I love 2k endo (now a statue).
2k endo is 1/20th the endo needed to max a primed mod. Usually, you can make about 450p profit off of a primed mod (more or less depending on whether you bought it from baro or another player, and which mod it is).
This means that the 2k endo reward is approximately equivalent to 22.5 plat which I'll round down to 22 for convenience.

Now, let's look at the other rewards:
>Riven mod
One of the few that can be legitimately better than 2k endo
>Focus lens
They sell on the market for about 10p each, more or less depending on school.
>4k endo
Obviously better than 2k endo.
>3 day booster
They sell for 40p in the store, BUT 3 days worth of booster only costs 20p if you buy 30 day boosters, AND there's no guarantee that you will actually get a booster you want.
>Greater focus lens
Costs more than 22p, but you might get one for a school you don't want. If you don't want it, you can't even trade it away since greater lenses are untradable.
>Exilus, catalyst, reactor
All 20p on the store, and you might not be in need of whichever one you got
>Forma
On top of being 20p, there's a 3 for 35p pack, and you get these all the time from relics anyway.
>Leg core
Legitimately better for obvious reasons.

So I, as a player with all the gear that isn't founder/event locked maxed out with the all the relevant focus stuff done and enough potatoes for a year worth of new frames, have no need for most boosters nor focus lenses, and the sortie rewards I might actually want are all worth less from the store than the platinum equivalent of getting 2k endo. Plus I can spend that plat on whatever I want, be it arcanes, skins, anything.

Debate me. I don't get why people hate 2k endo rewards so much.

As an addendum, some people have asked for a "token" system, where you get sortie tokens as a reward and can redeem them for whatever reward you want. Primed mods cost nothing but some ducats and credits from baro. You can get the ducats without grinding by buying prime junk, so the cost of buying it from baro is about 40-50 plat equivalent.
If you buy it form another player, you can easily buy them for 50-70 for the cheaper ones and 100 for the more expensive ones. Then after maxing, it's about 500 for the cheaper ones and 550-600 for the more expensive ones.

I don't know where you're getting "primed mods are worth much more than the endo used to fill them" because it's blatantly wrong.

I've been combining 4x rares when I have a surplus and I got two copies of guardian derision, healing return, condition overload, the newer ones that came out in the december (?) patch in two separate transmutation sessions which was much less of a pain than farming them out or paying for them
I've also gotten several high noons, crimson dervish, etc.
I'd call the simaris cores a trap due to the expense, I've only used the free ones I picked up from an event at some point, but they do ensure the polarity for slightly better odds
I only called it "completely random" because my results have been exactly that, when I've only ever transmuted gold mods to begin with as anything less seems like a total waste of time

Primed cryo rounds is nice for bumping its damage as high as you can because heavy caliber will wreck the accuracy and usability
Comboing up for viral with the nice status chance and innate slash can get you an imitation of the tigris' slash proc/half hp meme build, I think fanged fusillade might actually be worthwhile on the miter
