previous ded: >>167799639

The thread is dedicated to all games about building machines and systems out of blocks, in space or otherwise. Also, all these games are ded. Only ded games may join, otherwise they must have their own thread.
Whether or not a game belongs in /egg/ is a case by case matter, however games that would belong in /svgg/, space voxel games general, are automatically considered /egg/

WebM for retards:
>gitgud.io/nixx/WebMConverter.git

List of currently known and vaguely not dead /egg/ games (this list is not fully inclusive and if you think a game might belong here, feel free to ask):
>Algodoo
>Avorion
>Besiege
>Chode - Children of Ded Earf
>Empyrion - Galactic Survival
>Factorio
>From the Depths
>Homebrew - Vehicle Sandbox
>Infinifactory
>Intersteller Rift
>KOHCTPYKTOP: Engineer of the People
>Machinecraft
>REM
>Robocraft
>Robot Arena 2
>Scrap Mechanic
>SHENZEN I/O
>Space Engineers
>SpaceChem
>StarMade

Games that are definitely not /egg/:
>Minecraft
>The general that quite literally cannot be named. The Mexican scam artist one. With the shitposters. Fuck off.
>Hearthstone, found in the hearthstone general, /hsg/, not in this general.

Information about these games, such as where to get them if they're not on steam, trailers, /egg/ conquered/hosted servers, and other shit can be found in this pad:

The game that quite literally cannot be named with the FAR mod is quite fun for plen engineering.

by their very nature the click together with air in them, making them float normally at least.
>>
>>168039592
Yes and the more weight you add to them, especially with blocks that trap less air, the less buoyant they become.
>>
>>168039592
They're usually not very airtight from my experience.
>>
>>168039396
Nope, there are some boat bricks.
>>
>>168039592
The problem's going to be how many blocks are above the waterline, since they won't help with buoyancy.
Aircraft carriers are probably the best shape for this actually, since they're flatter/wider than most ships.
>>
>>168039585
But FAR is shit. It's iffy in transsonic areas, doesn't really do sideslip and the fundamental design of the game prevents any kind of meaningful aerodynamic simulation. All the mods do is desperately try to make of something so shallow and dull, and none of them have managed to truly succeed, including FAR.

Building an actual hauler is only good if you ghetto one out of iron and even then, what are you going to use all that money for?
Stations ATM are absolutely useless, making a production chain takes a long ass time and you have to haul everything into them manually.

The game is far too early into development to start roleplaying EVE in it.
>>
>>168049642
>you have to haul everything into them manually.
wrong. put docks on your factories and NPC haulers will occasionally come by and sell/buy shit.

>The game is far too early into development to start roleplaying EVE in it.
that won't stop me from trying
>>
>>168049906
>put docks on your factories and NPC haulers will occasionally come by and sell/buy shit.
Problem with that is that all sectors are active only when the player is in them. There is technically a mod that solves that, but only partially. It just keeps track of each factory and ticks the production up when you come back, it doesn't handle the selling and buying of goods.
>>
>>168049403
But did he actually remove them or just talk about doing it? I haven't played in a while and I find it hard to believe he'd be that fucking retarded.
>>
>>168050267
He did it in the past, and he's done more retarded shit. It's a cynical, educated guess, but a very good one at that.
>>
>>168050267
He hasn't said anything, but think about it.
You have two brands of engines, (electric and RTG don't count).
One that uses fuel and one that uses materials directly.
The one that uses materials has moving parts while the other one doesn't.
Fuel engines require you to refine materials to turn them into fuel.
Knowing how he's simplifying things for the target playerbase, it makes sense that it will get rid of refineries, and by extension, fuel. And since both engines would run with raw materials, and one has animated parts and the other doesn't, you can guess what happens next.
>>
>>168050183
yeah, that's a pain. hopefully koonschi will add some simulation for trading in unloaded sectors
>>
>>168049906
> put docks on your factories and NPC haulers will occasionally come by and sell/buy shit
Yes i tested it, made a power plant in onje of the home sectors with a shitload of factories, in 1 hour only 1 NPC visited my station, promptly rammed the docking port and fucked away.

Really makes your brain tickle.

It'll still fragment into smaller and smaller pieces, with everything eventually crashing down on the planet. Look at chelyabinsk meteor. 1 big rock fragmented into 2 pieces and completely burned out. Shone brighter than the sun for a few seconds, and people needed sunburn treatment in the middle of fucking winter. If you have thousands of meteors crashing down on a planet simultaniously, the heat transfer is gonna be ludicrous.

Meanwhile the martians react with "they ruined our sky". And the Earth's UN Ambassador or whoever she is is more concerned with actual stuff earth has on its moon, and not desctrution of the moon resulting in eventual total annihilation.

End of February is open beta. Game has actually gotten alot better in the last few months. Not nearly as jewy as it used to be and they are balancing weapons every week now trying to make everything decent enough for when they go open. Also graffix improvements.

The only problem is that they already killed their own playerbase a long time ago by being a bunch of greedy kikes with terrible systems in the game like durability on parts that would break after a few battles(not in the game anymore). So when they finally go open, it will most likely just be the hardcore fans returning who already liked the game anyway. It will most likely be stillborn.

The one HUGE issue the game has is servers. Theres only 2 servers. Russian server, and North American server. North American server is dead as fuck, so they are forced to play on the russian server which has actual players, which means anybody outside of europe is trying to drive a fast car and shoot at the same time with 200-300+ ping.
>>
>>168047518

>It's probably gonna become F2P bullshit eventualy,

It is a F2P game. It only costs $$$ on steam because thats if you want to get in early.

Once it goe sopen they will probably just sell gold currency and weapon/car packs, but you can play for free just fine.
>>
>>168052147

>Gameplay
Docks regenerate over time or when a sector is loaded
Current ship tab shows missing blocks
Added explanation to m/s in loading screen
Thrusters are slightly more powerful and scale with volume
Added a build tool to repair block by block
Added a "Repair Ship" window
Window shows repair costs
Window can discard current repairs, accepting your ship as-is, but this loses the "perfect" version of the ship

>Misc
Improved error printing to log files

>Scripting API
Implemented a sector.lua script that is always present and that does some sector-static initialization

>Server
Implemented binding to IP with steam networking
Command line interface is now working with windows command line
Added a /playerinfo command which prints info (index, steam ID, location) about players
By default /playerinfo is only available to server administrators and mods
/ban, /banip, /unban, /unbanip, /give, /groups, /kick, /teleport commands work with player indices and steam IDs as well
Server administrators don't undergo white/blacklist checks
Added command-line argument and setting for generator threads used
Command line option is --generator-threads
Improved file writing security checks for less corrupted saves

>Bugfixes
[UBR] Fixed wormholes going to sectors on the ring
[UBR] Fixed a hang on the server when saving players
[UBR] Fixed typo in german localization
[UBR] Fixed missing data saving on server shutdown
Fixed a crash in galaxy when loading invalid sector data

About this part, yes, there was no need about that other than "muh target playerbase"
>and the fact that you can't play the campaign on the highest difficulty setting
About this, no, it's really easy to win the campaign just using spaceships and sniping turds that can't aim 90 degree vertically with their instakilling guns

Does it have lasers? If not, kill it with a spaceship that's five klicks up.
If it does, but they can't aim up, see above.
If it does and they can aim up, murder it with a hypersanic submarine. Or just a bigger spaceship.

Don't know what the rest of /egg/ thinks about them, but some good spess book series are
Honor Harrington - basically 15 books of tactical and strategic space battles with politics and significant tech development in the background. Unrealistic but internally consistent.

The Lost Fleet - basically same as above

Seveneves- apocalypse and space survival. Everything is an extrapolation of current technology which I found super satisfying.

The Polity series - AI spaceships, weapons, missile carousels, androids, drones etc. Has similarities to the Culture but with a less advanced, more militariatic bent.

Gonna also chuck The Difference Engine in there. Not spess. Basically started the steampunk genre. Describes all sorts of mechanical goodies which I love.

Is Peaceful a trap option? I didn't expect to need to build military things before reaching purple science.
>>
>>168088726
>Aliens can still aggro from pollution
Are you sure you actually enabled it?

The mode clearly says 'aliens don't attack first'. They will attack if a train runs one over or something but not from pollution.

And I don't know what you're doing that makes aliens spawn anywhere but at spawners.
>>
>>168088726
All ayys must hang
>>
>>168089662
I'm pretty sure I did. I got the first alien attack from pollution achievement and after I took care of the spawners near my iron miners at the edge of the factory I got a notification that an electric pole near my steam engines at the center of the factory got destroyed by a biter so that's the only explanation I can think of.
>>

Sometimes a stray biter or two will get lost in transit to a meeting area and will only end up attacking after it times out from not being able to meet up. That's probably what happened. They only spawn at spawners, unless there's a spawner in your base then it won't be spawning there.

If they'd gone with multiblock systems from the start they wouldn't have needed to fuck around with the silly HP system to get decent ship battle damage effects. They also could have done some balancing by requiring things like heat sinks on the exterior of the ship. It's too bad the development cycle for Starmade is such a mess, I thought it had a lot of potential.

That sword needs to be powered on. The Blue suite's pilot didn't have time to turn it on. It's like a sword that emits a high heat field around itself as apposed to the light saber-like swords of the Gundams.
>>
>>168118703
I have not watched gundam but seems like the wite dude did it to negate his reach disadvantage over sword dude.
One of the tropes in mecha shows is psychological association between pilot and mech bodies, that a psychopath takes advantage of by not being averse to sacrificing his mechs limbs or head.
>>
>>168119131
I think the two main plot points that make Gundams special is first the metal their armour is made from (literally called gundanium) that resists stupid amounts of force, and some bullshit particles they can flood areas with that affect physics in some way (in short, 'this stuff makes mechs work in real life' particles). Minovsky particles? Something like that.

Patlabor goes into some depth on the controls and operating systems of the mechs. It takes months for the machine to adapt all its movement macros for one operator apparently. Over the years as the series went on, the newer operating systems became more automated and there's some commentary comparing it to manual vs automatic transmission.

I thought of that, the AI can start with a base model, and that same model is the one you steal at the very start or during the intro, and do some little modifications for the next battle or find new ways to use it, then steal their tech each time to improve yours, and you and they are both traped in the same tech level to avoid OP out of nowhere.
So you are basically catching up, and compensating with "human talent"
>each start brings a new base model or have controlled sudden changes mid way
with that the replay value could be good enough.

Oil delivery:
Short-medium range - pipes/pipes+pumps
Long range - trains with tanker mod

Oil processing:
Sacrifice some time and build a proper easily scalable oil refining+cracking plant.
Build a processing plant nearby, where you turn refined oil into oil products and fuel.
Import and export materials and oil via trains.

>oil is a bottleneck
In this context, is 'oil' a reference to the petrochemical branch of Factorio or the Crude Oil resource?
If the former, then go back and identify more accurately what bottlenecks it.
If the latter, build more pumpjacks, put speed modules in pumpjacks (use beacons if necessary) and productivity modules in refineries and chemical plants.
>>
>>168136603

>>
>>168140265
It depends entirely upon what level of modules you're using.
The amount of beacons required before replacing a pumpjack's speed module with a productivity module results in increased production:

T1 modules: 39 beacons
T2 modules: 22 beacons
T3 modules: 11 beacons

This is of course assuming a depleted oil well.
Note that affecting a single building with 22 (or 39) beacons is impossible, making only the T3 configuration worth considering.
Keep in mind that a T3 productivity module costs 70 extra plastic compared to a T3 speed module.
>>
>>168142081

So, yeah, prod modules only in undepleted oil wells

>>
>>168143130
Production modules work on wells like on mines.
You get more raw material before things run out.
prod modules give you more time to find and construct next oil field
>>
>>168142747
The output of any building is a product of its crafting speed and its productivity modifier, X * Y = Z.
Speed modules only increase X, whereas productivity modules increase Y while decreasing X.
If X is sufficiently large (because there's a fuckton of speed modules), then the productivity module's decrease of X will be offset by its increase of Y.

>tfw haven't biked for two weeks
Help me narrow this down, /egg/:
When pedaling, the bike makes an unusual sound like a distant duck or a metal wire being scraped.
The sound only appears when applying force to the pedals, freewheeling or a relaxed stroke does not cause the sound.
The rhythm of the sound follows my cadence, independent of my current gear (one front cog, eight rear cogs if it's relevant) - nearly always when my left pedal is horizontal and forward.
So far, I've only managed to produce the issue when seated on the bike, flipping it over or lifting it up does nothing.

I'm fucking stumped. I suspect it's either the crank or the pedals, but can't think of any causes.
I've checked the gear cable, which looks untouched, and it's not my shoes scraping something either.

Should I play Scrap Engineer? I've gotten a really bad itch for an engineering game where that's more focused on making machinery with simple tools in an open world and that game seems to fill that niche well. The only thing I'm concerned about is that if I'm gonna put time into this, I want to play online with new folks since none of my friends would play something like this. Is the community dead or is there a chance?
>>
Why don't more people talk about chode? Is it too autism even for the majority of /egg/?
>>
>>168171840
I booted it up yesterday and there hasn't been ANY new content added since it first came out. Don't bother.
>>
>>168172282
that and it's kind of mechanically poor.
>>

>>168172346
Well okay that's not exactly true, they added 'robot heads' which are just glorified note blocks.

That's it. That's all that's been added in over a year.
>>
>>168172346
Well shit. Is there anything else out there? I got Space Engineers from a Humble Bundle, but I don't understand it at all and it seems to be more geared towards resource managment and building cool ships than tricked out bases and vehicles.

Take a look at Homebrew:Vehicle Sandbox. The coolest feature is probably the metal and glass plates that you can form into any shape you want, so you can make realistic looking non-blocky cars and shit. I haven't been keeping up with it lately but the Steam news shows plenty of dev updates.
>>
>>168173552
That's only vehicle building, right? Ideally I'd like something like Besiege with base building, where you use basic tools like pistons, hinges and springs to make complex machinery.

Most are HW inspired. The remake sucked ass, if you're wondering.
>>
>>168184902
I'd heard, typical gearbox.
>>
>>168184902
What's bad about the remake? I really enjoyed it, the first one at least. Haven't bothered to finish the second one because I was already burned out from a ridiculously hard mission right near the start.
>>
>>168185026
For starters, they 'patched it' and it now crashes on start up for some of us. Dumbed down mechanics for the first game. Most mods are no longer supported/abandoned. AI feels off/easier. No one online.
>>
>>168185026
HW1 remake is using an upgraded HW2 engine, units don't act like they did in HW1. Fleet formations do nothing now.
Single player campaign became extremely easy so casuals stop whining, every map calculates in the power of your ship you jumped with last mission so it's really easy to just scuttle your ships, jump and rebuild while facing little resistance from the enemy.
Altered some cutscenes which is a huge taboo in my eyes.
Also no cataclysm but as I heard the whole source code is down the shitter so that isn't gearbox's fault.
Internet multiplayer desync problems which I personally experienced made me and my friends actually reinstall the original HW2.
All in all a huge disappointment, didn't deliver.

Flying fags deserve to be shot out of the sky and gassed where they crash, which was the best thing in robocraft.
This is like cars that don't need roads, rolling over in a car is bad for your health.
Yes it's sad that they can't roll, but what are the alternatives? Robocuck and the regenerating helicopters? Fuck that.

What gets me is how thrusters merely increase the speed stat, instead of needing to balance fucking anything.

1000 thrusters on the left side and one on the right will just mean you have 1001 thrusters worth of thrust value.

0/10 fucking dropped. Worse than starmade.

If you want to be an absolute bastard put all those machine guns on top of a frigate. Then fly around at max sanics and shoot people from underneath. Almost everyone in the game has their core right at the bottom of their ship, with hardly an armor over it, so you can zoom in with like 6-8+ machine guns and blast through their core in seconds and fly away before they even know what hit them.

Also i used the beta code to get a bit of premium currency and bought the pirate machine gun skin.
>>
>>168193859
That's the same as spengies tho.
I don't care desu (I do, but fuck robocuck), it's fairly stable and it's good for a quick play.
Wouldn't shill for it if it was paid, but like this it's worth for those small play times (like 30 mins - 1 h) in which I can't even finish to load a world in spengies to be greeted by 0.26 simspeed.

I wish they made robocraft great again

>>168194065
I do that, right now I'm using a cruiser because I chose randomly, I still need to get the hang about the various abilities.
I either get below them or on the back and aim for the core or the thrusters, leaving them immobile until they kill themselves. Works pretty well, nobody checks their sides especially the sniping fags.
>>
>>168194332

Regular planes suck dick in Robocraft. No matter how fast and maneuverable you make it, it will get SHIT ON by missiles, flak, SMGs, Rails, everything, and drone builds.

And then because drones dominate anything and everything in Robocraft, everyone hates anything that flys.

Head dev also hates planes and doesnt even like them being in "his" game, so its no wonder that theres 10 different counters to planes, and planes have no advantage at all.

How big is it? I cant find any info, although I get the feeling it doesn't top the Baserunner's 56m length
>>
>>168202187
It's just a hunch, but is that thing... entirely fucking modular?
There are seams along the body that match the width of the wheels as well as the motor. Jesus christ, it's like the world's largest lego technic.
>>
>>168202442
As cool as the Baserunner is, it's awfully unrealistic. A 50m+ long land vehicle that can hit over 100mph easy? I wish that was possible
>>
>>168202442
judging by the width(7.6m), they're approximately 25m-35m for the shorter trucks, and 40-50m for the longer ones. I could be way off though, trying to eye this shit up without a good reference is a pain.
>>
>>168202305

>>
>>168203734
everyone knows it but he did listen to us at one point
>>
>>168203560
>>168203742

This. They added thrusters so people could build fast cars, but never intended for people to make flying things.

But autism took hold and people built flying machines. And then people begged and begged for wings and other flying parts, and the devs finally gave in, even though Mark Simmons, head dev at Freejam, said he never intended for flying vehicles to be in the game and doesnt like planes.

And now we have lots of parts for flying, with lots and lots of direct hard counters against flying things.

Mark was basically like "Oh, okay, ill give you retards wings and helicopters, but Im going to make sure that every weapon in the game excels at killing flyers."
>>
Serious question.

How much money would it take to buy Robocraft so I could turn it into a not shit game. Im in a position to do so. It has so much untapped and wasted potential, not only to be good, but to make lots of money. And I could make it do both.

I'd understand if the game engine was fully newtonian like in spengies, but instead it has the "X3 physics" with respect to thrust - accelerating while turning makes you complete a 180 degree turn in a matter of seconds and you retain your velocity from before the turn, as this changes the perceived direction you want to go to instead of treating it as a normal newtonian retrograde burn. If you don't accelerate while turning you actually get the same effect but with regards to your miniscule amount of lateral velocity (ever performed a full engine break so that you do not start drifting sideways?), so it seems to be a newtonian retrograde burn while it's really just an arcade space drift. This combined with reasonable yaw/pitch velocities makes it really easy to avoid asteroids.

TL;DR: realism is boring build your second ship like a tadpole it'd be interesting.

They literally patched in a ballistic modelling system for the HW2 engine, just for the autists.

I will never accept people saying the remake was bad. A flawed gem is still a gem. The only complaint I have about it today is them cutting out the fuel system.

it's a tautology famalan.

>drop yourself onto the nearest neutron star
>drop yourself
>into a star
>in context of newtonian movement in 0g

Assume for the sake of simplicity we want to only drop me into the nearest star, e.g. the Sun. By requirement "drop" assume a hyperbolical orbit from Earth to Sun which as an eccentricity of over 1. For the sake of simplicity, calculate the hyperbolical orbit from LEO, so about 9.5km/s delta-v is required already. Now the Earth has an average orbital speed of 29.78km/s, and roughly the same amount of delta-v is required to burn retrograde in order to achieve a hyperbolical orbit (notice the Oberth effect most likely does affect the burn but we want a real drop and not just a fancy 1.01 eccentricity), so for a real spiky drop we need around 39.5km/s delta-v and to my knowledge there exists no rockets capable of shipping me there.

ur a faget.

The closed circuit can go through the ground.

>In answer to the second question, rubber-soled shoes do indeed provide some electrical insulation to help protect someone from conducting shock current through their feet. However, most common shoe designs are not intended to be electrically “safe,” their soles being too thin and not of the right substance. Also, any moisture, dirt, or conductive salts from body sweat on the surface of or permeated through the soles of shoes will compromise what little insulating value the shoe had to begin with. There are shoes specifically made for dangerous electrical work, as well as thick rubber mats made to stand on while working on live circuits, but these special pieces of gear must be in absolutely clean, dry condition in order to be effective.

Just finished the hull of my new airship. 20 guns in 4 turrets firing pen-depth 1018mm APS rounds.

Need to build turret emplacements for secondaries, though. I'm currently thinking a pair of CIWS turrets per side, as well as a couple of small rapid fire guns to swat squirrels.

I think the front looks kind of weird, I tried to make a trireme style front but it clashes with the sci fi looking rear.

Opinions?
