Retarded warship edition
previous ded: >>167528359
The thread is dedicated to all games about building machines and systems out of blocks, in space or otherwise. Also, all these games are ded. Only ded games may join, otherwise they must have their own thread.
Whether or not a game belongs in /egg/ is a case by case matter, however games that would belong in /svgg/, space voxel games general, are automatically considered /egg/
WebM for retards:
>gitgud.io/nixx/WebMConverter.git
List of currently known and vaguely not dead /egg/ games (this list is not fully inclusive and if you think a game might belong here, feel free to ask):
>Algodoo

>Besiege
>Chode - Children of Ded Earf
>Empyrion - Galactic Survival
>Factorio
>From the Depths
>Homebrew - Vehicle Sandbox

>Machinecraft

Games that are definitely not /egg/:
>Minecraft
>The general that quite literally cannot be named. The Mexican scam artist one. With the shitposters. Fuck off.
>Hearthstone, found in the hearthstone general, /hsg/, not in this general.

So stacking paper-thin solar panels and thrusters is basically way to min-max in Avorion, right?

Keen needs to replace half of their incompetent staff, quit catering to the LSG crowd and rework their engine so it actually can run well in MP.

Apart from all the boring shit hulls like carriers, battleships, and submarines, you could build
>single drillship
>double drillship
>catamaran battleship (e.g. Harima, which is on the FtD workshop)
>retarded battleship with two carrier decks on the side
>a giant rubber duck
>some more stupid shit that I can't remember
and arm them with all sorts of weapons like 1000mm howitzers, sci-fi lasers and wave motion guns, and fight retarded shit like rocket-propelled battlecruisers and a giant laser oil rig. It was super fun.

I get a little mad with myself whenever I think that low-functioning autistic kids are probably chewing on them now when I could be chewing on them, but that's life.

>>167840764
I wouldn't have picked the course if I'd known what was actually in it. They sold it as chemistry with a side of engineering, but it's basically engineering for a very specific set of instruments (pipelines, mixing tanks, pumps, pressure changers etc.).
In short, it's more about the stuff chemicals go into than about the chemicals themselves. If I'd known that, I'd have just chosen a computing course.

They didn't get tweaked since last fix that was a month ago maybe?
They were better than your regular wheels, but still not mp proof.
>>167865535
It's not that it's compact, it's just that you've placed buildings on logical expansion sites.
For instance, look at iron smelting.
It would be logical to make the smelting area longer, thus extending it towards east or west.
However, expanding towards west would require you to move output, not to mention that your labs are in the way.
In the opposing direction, there's crucial miners.
An alternate approach to expansion would be to lay down a new line next to the existing one, in your case that would be north or south.
North is already occupied by copper smelting/mining, while only south is currently empty.
Note however that if you were to need more power (requiring you to place down more steam engines), you'd find the new line of iron smelters to be in your way.
>>167861934
You produce 6(assemblers) * .75(assembler speed) * .2(recipe speed) = 0.9 Red Science per second
You consume 11(labs) * 1/30 (average 30 second research speed) = 0.3666 Red Science per second.
You should be able to sustain 27 labs with your current assemblers, or sustain your current labs with 3 assemblers.
Math it up
>>167866274

Added the adder and subtractor (that protrusion to the left). Whether it performs addition or subtraction depends on which intermediate rods are pushed down.
Realised I can make them share an input rod. The result rods might be able to be combined but I don't have any practical experience with rod logic subtraction so I hope it works. This leaves the bottom space clear for shifting the bits from the results register back into register 1 or 2.
Each operation will be controlled by a separate cam. For instance.
cam 1 = read input and store in register
cam 2 = output from register
cam 3 = perform addition/store carry
cam 4 = perform subtraction/store borrow
Each cam movement will involve 1-4 different rod movements. I can group these together in larger movements. A single command to add register 1 and 2 would activate the cams for
-read bit position 0 from register 1 and 2
-perform addition/store carry
-input to results register
-cycle to next bit position

You would add consumer products and could assign research to directly improving them. These products could, of course, be either procedurally generated or entirely user designed to appeal to specific markets, kind of like in automation.

Factorio is just about getting iron ore from the mines to the smelters to the assemblers.
It's basically TTD 2.0, in that you also have to place the industries and design their internal workings, and the chains go far deeper.
Add a currency-based economy, and you're basically there.

>>167943834
No if you use underground pipes.
>>167943834
>I can't tell if my endpoint throughput is getting fucked by the length of my pipelines
So in short, you've looked at some numbers, heard that pipe throughput is a function of pipe length, and then completely failed to apply this knowledge.
If you weren't a goddamn physician, you'd consider looking at the start point pipes (those near your pumpjacks).

Most people would be surprised at how accurately this depicts simple lifeforms.
There are several worms, plankton and similar that can pretty much be simulated in real time on a supercomputer.
That is, they actually simulate how the worm will react to a series of inputs (being poked, temperature change...) and then go do the same thing to a real worm, and the simulation is correct
>>167952827
The shit will absorb most of the momentum and, being a liquid and thus non-compressible, will break the barrel's walls.
Same thing as those small firecrackers that explode when you throw them on the floor
>>167954301
There's a significant difference of scale between those impact firecrackers and a barrel full of shit - a barrel could easily fragment into hundreds of pieces, each weighing more than said firecracker.
How do you suppose to get a uniform feces distribution without rupturing the barrel, and how would it achieve a decent blast radius without also sending these barrel fragments flying FAST?
>>167954301
>>167955041
At this point wouldn't it be easier to make a cannon out of said barrel to shrapnel shit everywhere but not cause major harm?

That, of course, has nothing to do with the image limit, which is what I'm actually concerned about.
Random images of cities used to bump stand no chance of generating a discussion.
Random pictures of /egg/ stuff does.
Whenever I join a public Factorio I just end up fiddling with smelter and mining output and building temporary minifactories for powerpoles, ammo and other minor annoyances.
>>167957145

And you fucking nigger, how does the bump limit play into this at all? We don't have limited amounts of threads per day. That's like drinking only three glasses of water a day because you have only three clean glasses, you fuck. You're just trying to make up some bullshit reason as to why having a more active thread would be bad, you fucking autist.
The only and absolutely only reason as to why a game or genre shouldn't be in a specific general is because it doesn't fit into the general - isn't related. And corneroids general has already expanded its scope so many fucking times it's ridiculous, and the only reason why we did that was because of a lack of popularity - as in the EXACT FUCKING THING YOU'RE ARGUING FOR, you pederast contrarian mongoloid homunculus.

It's about percentages, panoramic screenshots of /cbg/ used to bump can effectively be considered wasted posts, like ded and page ten. Whereas /egg/ images used to bump can provide an opportunity for discussion. They don't always, but they have a chance, meaning it's not wasting a post, and increases the probability of more posts per thread being high quality and threads being less dead.

Sequence of operations for a rod logic 1 bit memory latch.
1: starting state. R (result) can't move due to the block
2: I (input) = 1, moves from right to left. L (latch rod) moves at the same time
3: the intermediate rod can now move. It moves up 2 grid units
4: The latch and input rods reset themselves, locking the intermediate rod 2 units further up.
At the bottom R is now free to be moved, so R = 1

However, the current ship generation in Avorion is deterministic (though the player can't find the actual seeds) - for the AI to mix and match patterns in order to create a ship it would also need to know how to min-max thrusters, energy and crew quarters, which would most likely lead to gunbeds or blocks. If koonschi has commented about the complexity of edges and corners in deterministic generation, it would at least be interesting to know if he has abandoned it completely or just wants to rough out some other edges in his game before that.

All i want is ai enemies that actually dogfight you and move instead of just standing still

Short summary from agermaninterview with Koonschi:
Koonschi busy with community work and actual programming (50/50)
Qui_Sum busy with his masters degree, full dev work in a few weeks
influenced by:
X3, x-wing alliance, minecraft
gold? late 2017
DLC? probably
Steam Workshop Integration soon
current dev priorities:
Multiplayer / server optimization
building mode:
hiding blocks (hide all armor blocks, hide all engine blocks, ...)
partial repairing, repairing single blocks
changing ship orientation
no story mode planned
no controller support
trade routes for player owned npc ships
player owned factions, wars
no planets
server is still very memory hungry, savegames (galaxies) are huge
currently sectors are freezed if the player leaves, it is planned that relevant sectors will keep running in the background (sectors with player stations, ships, ...)
development started with the procedural generation algorithms, the game was build later around it
next updates:
multiplayer update, stability, server browser
content update, multiplayer factions and alliances, multiple players will be able to fly alliance ships (one pilots the ship, other control turrets, yet another can control fighters, ...)
no pre defined ship roles, will be player created
huge turrets for huge ships? scaleable turrets?
Yes! current turrets are way to small, scale will be determined by tech level, damage and other stuff
no rpg style crew management
no limits in creative mode (no turret limits, ...), low priority

I got bored and went bordering the barrier until i had mapped it all

>influenced by: X3
Well yea stations are pretty much a carbon copy of the X3 ones, not that this is a bad thing!
>DLC? probably
That's actually a very good thing, at least we know he plans long term.
I hope the AI will get better too. Auto turrets are dumb as fuck and mining/salvaging ships are retarded beyond belief.
>>168030617
I hate how all the AI ships just go fucking slow all the time.
I want high speed, multiple km/s chases through asteroids and debris fields, not "solve everything by just running away because they won't even bother"

Where is otis now that robocuck is a no?
>>168029265
Eh, I kinda hoped more for a single-player, single-ship content.
I just want muh Freelancer.
>>168029265
>no controller support
What the fuck is with this?
Even microshit gives the tools for free so they can sell more controllers, same goes for steam.
Its like this games are stuck in the 80's
Same shit with spengos...
>>168031285
Well, DLC are planned after release.
>>168031641
I guess most of the Faction/Alliance stuff will be also useable in singleplayer.
>>168031784
He said the controls are too complex xDkb and mouse ftw
>>168031784
How the fuck are you supposed to do anything with a controller in avorion, you fuck? Aiming will be hell, navigation in 3D space would be even worse.
Granted, joystick support would be great, but hand held controller would be pretty useless.besides, some autist will add a controller support .dll.
>>168031935
would be easier to use a 3rd party software to map the mouse into a stick, no dll or any bullshit, what ive been doing in spengos already.
>>168031784
You have a fucking steel battalion controller or something? Controllers are for console queers.

i was going to post that webm of a steam engine that i made that it's components would spin fast enough to go at mach 2 speed (before Nick capped the boiler pressure resistance)

Fuck off.
I've been finding that on MP servers, your ships are more and more likely to not show up in Spengies. Is there a way to get around this other than gamble with a reconnect?
