How can I get Pokemon Y or Alpha Sapphire to run on Citra?

I followed all instructions, made save folders, copied many different save versions and none of that shit worked. I'm sure the folders are right because right clicking on game on citra and selecting "open save folder" for those pokemon games opens the folders I've created.

Anyone got a good save or something? What am I missing?

It's a noise dithering effect. Noise emulation is super fucking important and a lot of emulators don't do it properly. GLideN64 was the first hardware plugin with a half decent implementation.

Managed to sort of make a backassed solution for P3FES problem by making a simple AHK script to toggle between two GSdx configurations whenever I hit the middle mouse button, so I can just hit it quickly when entering/leaving Tartarus. Might be useful for other games like Yakuza where settings that fix one thing break something else.

Script used:

; Toggle PCSX2 graphic settings then trigger GSdx refresh
#IfWinActive ahk_exe pcsx2.exe
MButton::
SetWorkingDir, E:\Programs\Games\Emulators\PCSX2\inis
if FileExist("GSdx_2.ini") {
FileMove, GSdx.ini, GSdx_1.ini
FileMove, GSdx_2.ini, GSdx.ini
}
else if FileExist("GSdx_1.ini") {
FileMove, GSdx.ini, GSdx_2.ini
FileMove, GSdx_1.ini, GSdx.ini
}
Send {F9}{F9}
Return
>>
>>167931564
Does this happen even in the Opengl renderer?
>>
>>167931865
Yeah, oddly enough it happens even in the software renderer. Only the TC offset seems to fix it, and that breaks portrait animations. Those can be fixed by triggering a GSdx refresh in certain locations (the dorm is usually the easiest) but then will break some other textures and effects (floor tiles in school get minorly corrupted, the moon looks all fucky during outdoor scenes and during the floor select in Tartarus, in-battle quote background gets messed up)

So best solution seems to be to use offset when dungeon crawling and disable elsewhere.

It has a high parity with the PSP for 99% of what you're looking for.
2x integer screen, front/rear touch mapping, two sticks (and potential for mods to use the second natively), everything a Vita can do.

PSX can be achieved by PCSX ReARMed via RA or wait for theslow to release his update to Adrenaline (PSP sandbox CFW) which allows PS1.

Memory cards are hit and miss and complaining is beating a dead horse 8~16GB is good enough for budget (yet still expensive, but complaining isn't solving that).
Recent development hints at USB mass storage support on PSTV, but obviously it's not portable (without a dekavita).

Based on what prices you can find them at, a 1000 has the "better" OLED screen, weighs a fucking brick, and shorter battery life.
The slim is probably a better all-around machine for potential portable emulation.
>>

>>167940615
It's an upgrade, but I wouldn't call it a good one.

Its CPU is really only marginally better than a PSP for the purposes of emulation, which is enough to bump SNES and GBA emulation to being playable (inb4 subhumans claim it was playable on a PSP), but it's pretty underwhelming.

I would say a n3DS is actually a better option since it has a faster CPU and the ability to run GBA and NDS games natively. Though the 3DS has a lower res screen (but at 240p it's perfect for many retro systems), and unlike the n3DS the Vita can emulate PS1 games thanks to its much better GPU, so it depends based on what you want.

I wouldn't pay for either of them just for the sake of emulation though.

I built myself a retropie box housed in an old NES. Trying to fiddle with it, but can anyone tell me how to get a Wii U Pro Controller (2 of them) working with this thing?

1.) Do I need a bluetooth dongle first? I thought RP3 Model B had bluetooth capabilities out of the box.

2.) I read over this page ( https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Wii-U-Pro-Controller ) and it says something about "Jessie-based Retropie setup". I'm running the latest Retropie, which is 4.1. Confused about what any of this means. I just put the Retropie img on an SD card and had itself install. What's this about Jessie?

What's wrong with learning Linux on raspberry pi? Sorry for not buying a thinkpad and installing gentoo on it, feget.
>>
>>167960094
I've never used a Raspberry Pie, but the setup instructions seem pretty straight forward.

Since you need to have a Debian-based OS to use your Pro controller, you have to install the latest Raspbian as your base OS, and install the RetroPie setup script on top of that.
https://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/raspbian/
Then enter the command line and follow the instructions they listed.

Honestly, this is probably something you should ask on a community based around RetroPie, like a sub-reddit or an official support forum or something. You'll likely not get any help for this on 4chan.

>>167960363
And here we see the autistic Linux user, scaring off new users. We expect to see him on /g/ later complaining that not enough people use Linux.
>>
>>167961106
You are learning nothing since you are using premade crap and following readmes like a monkey.

To answer your question: nobody invented a new OS called retropie, it's just a bunch of stuff running on top of Debian Jessie Linux, so you're fine
>>
>>167960196
>Jessie-based Retropie setup
Nothing important based on what I read.

They probably changed some shit with 3.5 which made it "Jessie" based onwards.

Just follow the instructions.

>>167961223
>Since you need to have a Debian-based OS to use your Pro controller,
But
>or use RetroPie 3.5

He only needs his Retropie 4.1 since I doubt they would just remove the feature to add bluetooth controllers post 3.5.
Or it would have been mentioned.

Retropie is just plug and play, and follow the readme.
>>

That's what confused me. Lots of info seems to be from 2015 or older and mentions jessie-based or RetroPie 3.5, and nothing on 4.1 mentions "jessie" at all, like that's easy for anyone to just figure out.

Several things I've read mentioned bluetooth dongles, and lists of which ones work best, but I thought that the RP3 was bluetooth enabled out of the box or I needed to buy an external device. That answers that though, so thank you. I won't let the underage scriptkiddie get me down.

>>167961478
That's what threw me for a loop as well. There are a lot of sources out there, it's just a matter of finding what's most current and "just werks". Thanks!
>>
>>167962003
> like that's easy for anyone to just figure out.
I would just trial and error these things.

It's easy to reinistall if you fuck something up.

RP3 should be bluetooth enabled by default, if articles are still talking about 3.5 then they're obviously talking about pis without default bluetooth.

>>
>>167975084
Chinese builds are outdated now anyway. Bleeding edge or the unofficial builds on gbatemp (which the people making them link to source) are faster and have more features.
Plus the chinese builds weren't doing anything that crazy, it listed the branches it used, and it was faster because it was being built with MinGW instead of VS2015.
>>
>>167975084
Why the fuck is it that the chinese are the only ones to make programs that work, but are shady as fuck?
The old Six Axis controller driver is the first thing to come to mind: trying to get PS3 controllers to work on PC was nonexistent, but sure enough, the Chinese come out with this Motionjoy program that made PS3 controllers work... BUT it was inside this shady as fuck program that was probably dialing home to the motha'land.

Why can't normal developers make things that work, while China makes things that work, but also adds tons of unwanted shit in it?

Too many to list but I'll give you a few
-Better audio/video sync (soudns like a meme but trust me, if you get used to it it's hard going back)
-Shaders
-It's way more convenient than setting up a different emulator for every system
-Most of the cores are actually pretty great emulators
>>
>>167996803
then it's true that i need to git gud because i can't notice the input lag on standalones. shaders are cool and they're even better recently since you can configure them per-core (per-game too?). unified settings are OK but setting up stuff on standalones is trivial and you only have to do it once so it never bothered me. a couple cores on RA are unique and in some ways superior to the standalone versions but the vast majority are equal or worse because they're just outdated versions.

Yeah, but say another friend came along and you wanted to set up a second or fourth controlller? Different hotkeys for functions like save-states, raise/lower volume/take, screenshot are also unified, your savefiles and directories in general aren't all over the place, it's more portable since you get some standalones that like to store configuration files outside their main folder etc

No not really it just happens instantly, that sounds more like your frontend is trying to hide your desktop or keeping the emulator window foccused at all times.

Just got here. The only way to play PS1 on Vita natively is on 3.36 using the PS1 bubble exploit. But even then it's flawed where you can't bring up the setup menu. In order to adjust the settings like bilinear screen filtering or just remapping controls, you need to fiddle with the config file itself. What I did was use a legit PSone Classic to make a configuration, then copy and paste that file for another game. This entire PS1 bubble exploit only exists for 3.36 because it was patched for later firmwares unfortunately. It was either release it for 3.36 or wait absolutely forever until Henkaku 3.60 which no one could've predicted in the future. What you can do right now for 3.60 is get into PSP mode hack and play the eboot that way.

Sonic Heroes, Timesplitters 2 and Monster Hunter Tri have been broken on Dolphin and ignored for almost a decade now.
Why exactly are you defending dolphin's incompetence so vehemently? A better optimized software renderer would be good for literally everyone involved, especially considering Dual core option has been depreciated now with the devs not even accepting bug reports with it enabled and that the software renderer does not suffer from shader stuttering either.

I'm not defending them I'm just telling you that your idea is shit for the same reason pruning the shader cache all the time is shit, it's a "good enough" solution that only invites you to not work on a better one.

08:17 <@Twinaphex> Dolphin keeps regressing badly there
08:17 <@Twinaphex> plus their software renderer is very inaccurate
08:17 <@Twinaphex> entire color formats are not implemented at all
08:17 <@Twinaphex> it’s funny that they bashed N64 emulation for so long
08:17 <@Twinaphex> N64 emulation actually has a perfect reference software renderer
08:17 <@Twinaphex> the one in Dolphin is garbage

>>

It's not like SP is going to make his own GC/Wii emulator either. Sure he may make a core for Dolphin, but it's not gonna be updated regularly enough to keep close to the upstream and at most it's just gonna have a couple of hacks to make some stuff work a bit better/differently.
>>
>>168037687
SP is right though. Dolphin devs are either phony or just plain stupid. I too found it ironic they bashed N64 emulation, when N64 emulation is honestly in better shape (accuracy-wise). All Dolphin has is a half-decent hardware renderer.

You're right. Dolphin's not good enough, so I'd rather use hacked Wii instead. I merely tried Dolphin a few times to see if it lived up to the hype and was disappointed.

3D system emulation will never be at a level of accuracy you can truly say is indistinguishable from the real thing so might as well not get your hopes the farther you go in gen the worse it's gonna be, Dolphin just happens to be a bit less terrible than most but it's still heavily geared towards enduser experience rather than true accuracy or whatever.

People have been saying that for months
Just because you crawled out from under your rock recently doesn't mean the world changed in a few days.
Hell I remember people criticizing Dolphin devs about their shitty software renderer when they were spreading FUD about portable shader caches being implemented in Cemu as not being "accurate enough" for dolphin
>>
>>168039280
>>168039390
I'm not one of those "cycle accuracy or bust" people, but I really dislike when people's words and actions don't match. These Dolphin devs claim to be all about accuracy and preservation, when their actions say otherwise. It disgusts me that they use "accuracy" as an excuse for some flaws in their emulator. It's now pretty much a meme to use accuracy as an excuse to a particular problem. I've seen other devs use that excuse too, like for GLideN64. Somehow people are naive enough to think some hacky HLE hardware renderer is too accurate to be able to run full speed without requiring Nvidia users to enable performance mode..

I'm not saying I'd exclusively only use a software renderer, but I think it is useful in some cases. It's always nice to have a fallback. What bothers me the most about Dolphin is the shader stuttering.
>>
>>168043795
i use my wii for gcube games but i imagine they mean that it's bad in the sense it's not accurate and filled with inconsistency that you wouldn't find on a normal console, for a emulators that pretends to be accurate it does make the emulator look bad inthat regard.

you average end user probably doesn't care though. most people are okay with just being able to get from start to finish with no crashes/game breaking bugs.

it's like with byuu an updating higan/bsnes. he keeps pushing updates that the end user doesn't give a shit about (plus wasting his time adding other emulator cores to higan) because we already got the entire snes library perfectly playable 20 something versions ago (hell even more)

oh and I completely forgot to mention about the holy grail of their incompetence, the Dual core option.
Dolphin has practically no support for multithreading. Their FAQ details what they did with the dual core option but its glitchy as fuck and can completely break games. This has been the case for at least half a decade but there has been no progress to actually fix it. In fact the devs have recently moved to depreciate the option by not accepting bug reports with that option enabled and having it disabled by default. This leads to a very stupid situation where multiplats tend to run better on PCSX2's software renderer than Dolphin's hardware one because almost every single processor nowadays has more than a single thread.

A mid-range graphics card today is the single most complicated device humankind has ever created. A modern gaming card has between 3 billion and 7 billion discrete transistors, while the ARM processors used in name-brand tablets have something like 30 million - a hundred times simpler. Truly often-copied chips like flash memory are much simpler, with mostly a repeating pattern of memory and some tiny logic circuits.

I'd like to play some N64 and Pj64 is the only emulator this little shit can handle, so...is v2.3.x still ridden with nagware pop ups?
If so, is "Run Count=-1" in the cfg really all that's needed to get rid of it, and it won't actually cause any issue?
This shitty netbook is the only pc i'l have for a few months, so i'd rather not fuck it up just to play some N64.

Those libretro forks also have features she isn't willing to merge or backport, like:

- PBP image support
- Higher resolution support for software
- PGXP (perspective correction, added precision)
- GL renderer
- Vulkan renderer

All insignificant trinkets of course, only to a nutcase trannydev that has delusions about people preferring a native res PlayStation emulator without any features instead of epsxe. Yeah, good luck with that, you can't convince the masses on that shit.

Yes.

PJ64 isn't necessarily the fastest emulator. In fact it only recently got fast enough to even compete with 1964. Some games are faster on PJ64, others are faster on 1964 1.1.

Seriously though, good luck playing N64 emulation on that toaster. I'd be surprised if even Jabo's Video was full speed. Only way I can see you getting acceptable performance is with Rice Video.

>toaster is too toasty to get 60fps in N64
I still have 1.6 on this pc, and it runs fine most of the time with Jabo's plugins, even if it has some drops here and there.
With 2.0(I didn't even remember i had it) almost all major games run 60fps even in areas where i had drops in 1.6 , regardless of what plugin I use, but instead of having some drops here and there, i have severe and more frequent slowdowns to sub 30fps, which is why I was curious to try 2.3.x.

>1964
I don't even remember when it was the last time I tried it on this netbook, but everything except mario 64 was unplayable(not emu's fault i guess), bit I'll try new versions anyway.

Np. I guess if PJ64 already runs full speed, you don't have to worry about 1964 unless you're playing certain titles like those made by RARE. Then again I really doubt you'll be able to run those games full speed anyway.

2.3.x is the fastest version of Project64. One poential issue however, is default settings. Some unnecessary settings are often left enabled because of the lack of testers.

Anyway, video plugin is usually the biggest bottleneck. So that's also something to consider.

Looks like SP might quit RA.. All because of some silly drama. He should have never trusted that logan kid.. That was a big mistake.

I think RA would be in better shape if SP didn't lump all "emudevs" together. Any time one "dev" does something wrong, SP throws other devs under the bus, when not all are bad. He's paying the price for picking the wrong people.

Yeah, the best I could do was get CPU filters to work, but not even the Composite version blends dithering. I tried to recompile the filters but the only way to blend dithering is to cut the resolution in half, which blurs the shit out of the image. I have no idea of how themaister's shaders manage to blend all dithering with half the blur (only the 2phase version though, which also messes with the colors).

You need to hex edit the whole ISO, not only the ELF executable!
Patching this game with cheat codes is probably not possible,
since the game is hardcoded for 4:3 and it overwrites the
original ELF code in the memory with data from the ISO.

Those ?????s are due to Japanese characters trying to display in your ver of Windows without Japanese support installed, as SSF was made by a Japanese guy. But even that is not rather inscrutable compared to the vast unknowns contained within even an emulator--something made by other humans.

The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far. The sciences, each straining in its own direction, have hitherto harmed us little; but some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new dark age.

Most games I've tried works fine, only games that have given me any sort of trouble is Spyro 3 which had shit framerate for some reason and the first Spyro game although that was only dipping in framerate on the later levels but it was enough to annoy me quite a bit.
>>
So I'm collecting roms for a RetroPie setup that I'm making, and out of all the supported systems I'm only missing these:
Amstrad CPC
Apple 2
Atari 2600
Dragon 32
FinalBurn Alpha
Intellivision
Macintosh
Neo-Geo
TI-99
TRS-80
ZX Spectrum

So basically the no-intro romset.

Anybody got any ideas where I can find these? Right now I'm downloading a 50gb MAME rom pack. Should that contain Neo-Geo roms or is that separate?
>>
>>168235173
>ZX Spectrum
There's no no-intro for that. The best you'll get is a TOSEC pack and even then there's probably shit on the world of spectrum that's not on the packs
>>
>>168235814
Yeah basically everything I listed is not in the no-intro pack. So is TOSEC the only way to get those other systems?

What's the difference between unheadered and headered ROMS? Which are better? Does it matter that much?
>>
>>168236984
headers are not part of the original roms and thus shouldn't exist. They go against preservation.
>>
>>168237486
Except in NES where they're required to make the game run.
>>
>>168237737
Different type of header though
>>
>>168237737
They're not part of the original rom, they don't belong there. Put them in a separate database file or something.
>>
>>168237737
>required

It's a shitty system put in place because everything already had headers anyway back then, and it only hasn't been replaced because autists can't handle change.

My fucking nigga, same here. Just cleared the Evolution disc 100% and moved on to the Revolution one.
>>
>>168240423
And? What, an emulator can't be worked on and released unless they spoonfeed you the files necessary to use it?

kys
>>
>>168240612
I played part of the Evolution disc, then a few of the Revolution disc missions partially because of "nostalgia" and partially because of the free shit, and now I'm playing Evolution again. Though I'm starting to get tired of it and will switch to another game for a day or two. Probably Gran Turismo 4.

>>
>>168242392
See https://img.fireden.net/vg/image/1447/34/1447347087394.jpg
For Answer if you ask me. It's easy, it doesn't have the retarded control scheme. If you don't have a PS3/360 maybe Armored Core 3 if you can rebind the controls, just don't even think about starting with AC2 (it's hard) and AC1 (it's filled with beginner traps). Also use a fucking spreadsheet, you'll need it.
>>
>>168242658
I see, thanks. I have a CFW PS3 so I'll start with that.
>>
>>168242658

What?
I mean it's hard if it's your first AC I guess unlike 3 but outside of that there's nothing hard about it outside of maybe a couple missions if you really suck vs AC.

I don't understand how you could construe that commit as meaning you no longer need decrypted ROMs. The bootrom containing the AES keys hasn't been dumped by anyone that isn't a moralfag. Thus, you are a retard.

How's emulating SMT 4 (not apocalypse) on citra? Can you finish the whole game or does it crash at some point or something.

The keys are available. If the commit allows the available keys to be used to on the fly decrypt the roms then therefor decrypted roms are no longer needed. Stop embarrassing yourself.

It just means byuu isn't going to be dumping PAL games.

He's dumped all US games and he has a full JP set he still needs to dump, but he won't be doing PAL. Sucks, because he's already found a couple games that only had bad dumps available when he did some PAL dumps recently.
