Mai is solid overall. Japs haven't had much time with her so it's hard to say if she's high-tier, but she's definitely mid at the very least. She's the strongest character at low-level play though because of how much damage you get off with her and stuff.

Anyone who's been exposed to more technical, more dynamic fighting games will quickly pass on tekken. Other top fighters, namely Street Fighter, KoF and MK have advanced impressively in their latest installments; but the relic that is tekken just can't seem to evolve, furthermore many combos can be done simply by hitting 1-button, and the nearly "instant-kill" rage art moves are just laughably broken. Instead of a supplying a proper fighting engine, matches in T7 seem to rely heavily on "who can get their rage move off first". So many elements of the gameplay don't even require any sort of skill. In my book, slow motion over and over again also gets old very quickly. And in the end, it's more of a novelty or gimmick rather than an actual, thought-out fighting game mechanic. But hey, the casual crowd will be pleased!

If you want something a little more "button-masher-friendly," tekken might be your cup of tea.... Key word, might.

Do you have any idea how often the better player is the correct one in arguments? Almost always. That's why they're the better player, they know more about the game. This shit happens in every general. It's literally always the same shit. The problem is that good players can usually identify a shitter if he's spouting nonsense whereas other bad players have no idea who to believe if two people are saying contradictory things. That's the main reason people shouldn't be taking random advice from people in this thread. I stopped going to a general just because it was filled with so much bad advice that you either had to ignore half the posts or spend half your time arguing with people who clearly didn't understand the game very well.

There are a lot of scrubs in the west. The general level of play in Japan is higher due to having arcades. The arcades may not be around now a days for SF, but a huge part of the community did come from the arcades (sf4).

Think of the arcades as a training ground or development center. If the training ground/development center suddenly goes way how does that effect the players who are already good at fighting games? The players who miss out on not having arcades are the new players who are now forced to develop in an environment that isn't as good at raising the level of play as an arcade.

Yes, the better player is probably more often correct about the game than the worse player, but that does not mean that he is necessarily correct about a particular case. Nor does it mean that the player winning the duel is the better player for certain - again, dueling would just open a whole new can of worms.

There simply is no logical connection or solid proof value to settle an argument like that. All there is is an outlet for aggression and excuses.

If someone gets significantly beaten by another player in a match or set (or otherwise proves himself to be a clearly better player), the guy who won is going to be right 95% of the time. And he gets the satisfaction of beating down a shitter.

Obviously I'm not talking about some closely fought match where both players were around the same level. But most of the time arguments stem from one bad player and one good player, or two bad players anyway.

I've put significant hours into SC2, Dota, League, and HS, and dabbled a little in CSGO. I got the best at League, and it was probably the most cancerous general I saw and the one I just stopped going to. Though that was likely because I just identified shitters more easily in it. SC2 was pretty bad especially after Wings ended when it started dying. Haven't been there in years but it was mostly Kpop posting when I left. Dota2 was like a more elitist version of League half full of people who never played the original. HS was full of shitters obsessed with muh special snowflake decks. Every single one of them thought their game was the best and sperged out about each other.

SFV is my first fighting game ever so I'm having to build up my foundation from scratch. I got tired of team games too and there aren't many competitive 1v1 games left (at least that are alive), fighting games are one of the only ones I can think of. I even considered Brood War at one point.
