Yeah but the 3DS is a clunky piece of shit, the Vita has a MUCH nicer screen and is closer to a GBA in terms of form factor.

Hombrew is a vague term for unofficial software.
The homebrew channel is a piece of homebrew software that you can launch "homebrew" from.

When you have a CFW like Luma, you can run homebrew natively so you dont have to use the channel.

The "homebrew channel" itself has been blocked, but if you have a CFW already it doesnt matter.

Secondly, I didn't know that there's a music tab in the settings.
It would've been pretty great to hear Goldne Sun's intro fanfare every time I boot up freeShop followed by the menu music.
There's no way to modify the splash screen sound unfortunately. Well, except for changing the source code. But holy shit does it have a lot of dependencies. It's not worth it for one song.

If anything, you get more out of homebrew from the new 3DS seeing as it's a hardware upgrade in the sense of processing power.

The old 3ds had about 266 MHz of processing power, the n3ds has about 800MHz. With that much bumped up power, emulators are that much more capable. Also, you gain the ability to do video capture wirelessly on the n3ds.

In the end, it all really depends on how much you actually want your system to be capable of doing.

Just to let you know, if you make use of NTR-CFW on Pokemon (selecting the 800MHz + L2 Cache option for better performance), Pokemon will run like melting butter. As will Pokemon XY.

The problem is that the game is made to run under the o3DS clock speed, so it clocks the n3DS down to that speed.

Games like Monster Hunter 3/4 and Smash 4 make the o3DS run a custom version of the firmware so that it minimizes system memory and clock usage. It does that so it can focus all of the o3DS's functions on the game only. This is also why the o3DS has to restart after you close any of those games.

With the n3DS, it doesn't have to do that since it will run those games on full 800MHz mode. With NTR-CFW, you can make the majority of games run a lot better by forcing the clock speed to run at full speed instead. It makes a LOT of games run so much better.

There are some exceptions, though. Especially when it comes to older 3DS games that forced framerates to lower to allow for the game to process properly.

This was very much true with the DS. It was actually very depressing trying to play certain games, only to find out the lag made it nearly impossible to do so.

The 3ds online has been very stable for me. The kicker is that it lacks enough quality online title that interest me. This is my fear with the Switch, and the reason I think it's silly to charge for online service.

- Boot into home menu.
- Go to System Settings.
- Remove SD card and insert it into PC.
