No, hardmodding itself can't be patched. What happens is that the system can't boot with a kernel version under 11.3 anymore (there's a minimun version check on NS preventing it). This is nothing new and happened on every major update before, like anything past 9.6 couldn't boot with a <9.5 kernel.

What sighax, if ever implemented, takes advantage of, is the plaintext exploit that can't really be patched and will be exploitable by this. Don't expect it anytime soon though, it's still under several layers of moralfaggotry with not a single PoC.

The only known casualties right now are HBL (which is stupidly easy to fix anyway), and NTR, which will be updated soon to fix it anyway.

The system refuses to boot if the kernel is under 2.53 (basically anything under 11.3). Prior to that, even though 11.0 bumped the kernel version up too 2.51, the system could still boot with 2.50 which began on 9.6. And that's exactly what rxTools does, and DSiWare/hardmod did to get old vulns back.

Furiously downloading the last few games I need from the freeshop incase it goes down, then I'm deleting wifi settings and waiting for 11.3 to blow over.

An arm9 exploit would bypass that anyway, which would be necessary to get to 2.1 anyway. With arm9, decrypt9 can just get access to the decrypted nand and inject a NAND image over it fine.

This anti-hardmod thing isn't new and happened on 9.2->9.3 and 9.5->9.6 (we knew about plaintext for really long and still didn't help with being past 9.2 until we got software downgrade. That minimum version thing is written on the system apps themselves, but since they were downgraded as well, it was a non-issue for software downgrade. Now the problem was when software downgraded was patched in 11.0 with minimun hardcoded versions on the native_firm. We never really got around it, and instead injected an old native_firm on top of it since apps didnt bitch against it (the native_firm part on the nand isn't encrypted, but just it). But now that we have a patched native_firm AND system apps get it, we're in the same situation as 9.3 in 2015 again, except that software downgrades are out of the table. The only hope now is getting the same scenario as 11.2 again, which isn't happening anytime soon.

So I have an A9LH/Luma O3DS that I gave to a friend and they fucked up and updated.

Everything seems to be fine other than Homebrew won't boot (payload not made yet) and it's slow to boot. It does and everything runs fine once it comes up.

Has anyone found out why Luma seems to lag when booting?

Alright, so Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai DX has an update and it's not available on Freeshop. It prompts me to update when I try to start it. I can obviously just launch the game instead, but it seems like it fixes some relevant bugs. If I try to update via eShop, will my 3DS brick or anything?

It seems safe for everything (except HBL) to update to 11.3 but there might be something else under the hood still that could fuck me over, so it's not recommended that I update right away.

You'll only be able to play burnt discs / slow ass USB games if you use that on FAT without a network adapter. Slims have a network port so they can stream through SMB but no HDD.

HDD/SMB is the way to go so your laser doesn't breakdown eventually, but I guess they are cheap to replace.

If you go chink it may have SATA instead of IDE so either USB<->SATA adapter or pop open your desktop and temporarily disable your cd drive or something.

I've been toying with the idea of grabbing a N3DS to replace my O3DS.

O3DS has Luma installed. I assume I would first have to install Luma on the N3DS and then go through the normal system transfer process?

Is it worth looking at a used N3DS from somewhere like Gamestop, or do they regularly update them to the latest firmware? I'd prefer to actually be able to physically examine a used console before I buy it, but if they're all going to be 11.3, I might as well save myself the trip.

Sometimes the screen glitches out when you do that, but the hack is still running in the background. Just hit select to start the installation, and then a few seconds later press any button to restart the system.

Be careful after you restore NAND and go to update the firmware, 11.3 isn't working with the HBL yet.
