It's still not a good ending, it's still bad, but really no worse writing than half of ME2, which I was still able to tolerate.

In the after credits scene we have:

Basically it keeps most of the Catalyst stuff (unlike MEHEM which retcons stuff) but ADDS A COUPLE EPILOGUE SCENES and along with CEM let's you play the Citadel DLC after the credits. The CEM removes or replaces references to Citadel happening before the end of the Reaper War.

Do you have anxiety attacks every time you realize the Sun will shallow Earth five billions years from now? Does humanity even exist during the Stargazer scene? Does anything related to Shepard's time even exist? We don't know and its not relevant, you saved the galaxy for thousands of years, for most that's way more than enough.

Simply put there is "long term" and there is "terms so long you can't concept", the farther in time you could the less relevant your objective becomes because the amount of variables and parallel events increases absurdly.

It still managed to be better than ME2, but parts are obviously unfinished. Someone even checked the game files and saw that, at the very least, there was supposed to be more showings from the other squadmates. Maybe even a SM-esque set-up with the war assets.

Because there is a proper build up to it. In me3 you're told you're outing together a grand fleet for the final battle but then they through in a deus ex machina that overrides the importance of the fleet you're building. Me2 also gives you limited control over the team you build in the suicide mission, when someone says "oh shit we need a tech specialist to get past" you feel pretty good about recruiting a geth for you're team. You never get that in me3.

but really from a plot perspective it's the worst, because the whole collectors thing is a sidestep, ME1 introduces you to the reapers and thwarts a plot to open the citadel relay, and ME3 is the actual invasion from dark space, ME2 is like some side story in between. It's Mass Effect Gaiden, it's also got stripped to the bare bones RPG mechanics.

It just has a great cast (and it being a large cast ensures that there's someone for everyone to pick a few favorites that they like), and good mission design really.

The Suicide Mission is really effective because it makes use of the various specialists you recruited in the game. WIth leaders like Jacob, Miranda, and Garrus leading the secondary squad, the Infiltration/tech specialist, the biotic specialist, and then your heavy soldiers like Zaeed and Grunt holding the line. Large cast parties splitting into separate teams achieving separate but connected goals is a good mechanic in RPG's, especially if the game has a broad enough cast to cover it. It worked well in Final Fantasy VI too.

Unfortunately a lot of games don't have a big enough cast to make a mission like that really work.

because it manages to include most of the team you built up. includes a fully fleshed out mission area with multiple decision points where you get to see consequences play out. I don't care for most of ME2, but the final mission is pretty well done (reaper baby aside).

The ME3 London mission almost feels like an afterthought. Once you get out into the combat areas you're mostly just fighting in an area that looks like cut and paste assets then that final bit is just fighting off waves. Doesn't help that once you get past all that it's a good 30-40 minutes of slow walking to the dumbest conversation in the entire series with STARKID.

What were those videos that one person made that was basically them fucking around in SFM? MechanicalPenguin or something? I remember one video has FemShep hunting Thane down for sex, and another of the suicide mission where TIM replaced Shepard. And Garrus fucked a Keeper.
