It's hard to believe it's been only 12 turns.

I've dropped an average of 2.5 atomic bombs every turn. The explosions and the resulting fallout has been the only way I've been able to keep up with the waves of much more advanced Mongolian forces.

The plan is to stay the course, build fast 3 movement guerilla units with altitude training to dart to Mongolian border cities to take it after dropping bombs and destroying their fallout shelters, allowing for the quicker annihilation of those cities. The UN is also almost done. With my vassal states of Indonesia, Assyria, and Denmark, voting myself hegemon may be the only course to victory.

No ICBM's yet, but I did fight a WW1 era war with Mongolia a day or two back. It resulted in me only claiming one city before having to retreat to defend against the Danes. Mongolia did nuke one city but besides that it was rather non-nuclear.

So what's the best way to go about squashing other civs in Stellaris?
Vassals cost influence, conquering adds to your tech cost for a really inefficient work force, unless maximum negative ethics divergence negates that and makes xenos drift towards your ethos more.

Please. I'm sitting here just looking at the title screen. I want to go to fight, not sit there and tech up while ignoring everyone.
>>
>>167530398
Tech penalties are pretty easily offset by just building a few dedicated lab planets so just go fight.

Military Dictatorship

Industrious/Strong/Rapid Breeders/Decadent/Repugnant

Go full Zerg rush, forget about having a tech advantage and win early with superior numbers. 3 low-tech ships will always win over 2 medium-tech ships, and then you can just swoop in with a science vessel for those debris. Make sure you aggressively expand to new worlds for more starports.

Not really, but Industrious+Strong+slaves will help you snowball quite a bit. And you can always just go to war in order to kill your rivals' mining stations and research their debris. Maybe kill some science ships too, and of course you can take any planet without a spaceport easily.

The war is over.

After dropping 45 nuclear bombs on the Mongols over 18 turns the war is over. By the end the nuclear hellstorm had finally forced the Mongol GNP below mine and their military force finally fell below 1,400,000 (mine was 750,000 for the entire war). I was able to rush one of my brave guerilla units in to irradiated Mongol territory and take Cork. I rushed up as many units as I could muster to fortify the city and used the city's own airport to drop in even more. Ultimately Genghis Khan offered peace with a small gold concession. I took the deal because I wasn't certain if my units could fend off a counter attack against Cork in the irradiated land.

With a few Citadels I will secure Cork and 4 additional Uranium, doubling my supply. If war comes again I will be in even better position.

It may not come to that though since already I have enough United Nations votes to become World Hegemon, even when my vassal's votes aren't counted.

I really don't understand that. I mean for other races sure fine you are pretty bad for genociding them. But fanatical purifiers legit only have 3 states of diplomacy

1) Preparing for being at war
2) At war
3) Rebuilding after having been at war

And their wargoals are always either cede (which they will then purge) or cleansing planets. Wiping them it legitimately is making the galaxy safer.

What's the point if all your planets are 100% full already? I guess you could purge less useful pops to make room, but that has it's own problems.

Stellaris really needs city-planets. I want to stack pops on one another like on Taris, Coruscant, or Trantor.

Yes. Swarm missiles are also slightly faster than regular missiles/torps so they always get targeted first by PD, which they are immune to due to 200% evasion. The idea is they distract PD sufficiently that your actual damaging missiles make it through, which they do.

Missiles still do shit for damage though so even with swarms they're worthless garbage.

Megastructures better be styled differently depending on the Ship Styles your Empire has, and they better give Fallen Empires's ringworlds new appearances similar to their Ship styles.

I'm going to be severely disappointed otherwise.
>>
>>167563559
>What's the point if all your planets are 100% full already?

This problem alone makes Stellaris far less interesting than it could be. Both purge-and-replace and synths are essentially useless because when you already have full planets carpeted with happily working pops, the diplo penalty and resource hit you get from mass population replacement is just too fiddly to be worth your time.

The obvious answer is to slow down pop growth or allow pop exchange between full planets.
Unfortunately, since food us going global it sounds like the opposite of these is going to happen.

All of the megastrucutes in the dev diary seem to be textured similar to the Reptilian style. The ringworld seems to be using the current ringworld model but with new textures.

I hope Paradox isn't so lazy as to make all of the new stations' models exactly the same but with different textures for each ship style.
>>
>>167567642

iirc Wiz stated that the megastructure models will be tied to your ship aesthetics. So mammalians have mammalian ringworlds, fungoids have fungoid rings, etc.

I unironically do want less control over my empire tho.

Paradox games usually excel at making you feel NOT like the supreme unquestioned autocrat of a giant state, but rather as a regime, a governing stratum, assailed much more by enemies within than by enemies without.

I much prefer to play Crusader Cucks 2 for that kind of game; but I also hate when Crusader Cucks 2 randomly chucks me a curveball like "every one of your vassals hates your Heir for no good reason so your immortal empire collapses the moment you die"
at the same time it's kind of a good thing to have to rebuild from ashes every few years

except that the AI never seems to have trouble dealing with the exact same goddamn issues
>>
>>167574179
That's why I prefer Europa Universalis IV to CKII.
You always face a lot of problem, but you know your 20,000 men and 10,000 riders can deal with it if the problems get out of proportion.
In Crusader Kings 2, your army is so small and there's not much you can do about it, and it's impossible to plan things on the long run because everything is random.
Wanna improve your relation with a vassal? You have a 5% chance to get a meager +20 bonus, and a 2% chance your chancellor fucks up.
>>
>>167574330

you can easily get 20% chance with 1% failure by grinding out a lineage of Grey Eminences

Like whether or not it's awful is up for debate, I'll agree with that, I personally turn off half the features from that patch in the setup anyway
But brutal? Come the fuck on lad there's only a few starts in all of CK2 that can be considered 'brutal', I get that the council is annoying to manage for someone who isn't used to it sure but it ain't hard.

>>167577003
That's what I mean you're shit
I'll give you some advice anyway though

Factions are not plots, they're basically groups of people trying to push an agenda. The can legitimately be dangerous if they're of the Pretender type since those types generally get a lot of people to join
The best way to solve that is obviously to smiply kill the pretender in question. Otherwise you should try and get your vassals on your good side.
How do you do that? Well, first off hand out honorary titles. Try to keep your personal demense full. Do not create a shitton of ducal titles, because people will start asking for those titles - if you don't create them and none of your vassals have the ability to create them they can't complain and won't become dukes.
It doesn't matter if 'powerful vassals' desire a council seat unless giving him that seat will make his opinion relatively high (15-25+), or if he's in a faction. Anyone on the council is unable to join any factions.
When giving land to your vassals, scatter the holdings of those disloyal to you (one province on each side of the kingdom) so that if they rebel their troops are scattered and in insignificant chunks. Give the vassals who are loyal to you land scattered as well - this is because when you raise vassal levies it doesn't matter how far his holdings are, all his vassal levies are teleported to where you raised it.
Get a hold of your vassal's heirs too, so that you can educate them to love you (there's a special +10 or something Mentor opinion).
If you're a woman sleep around to get mad opinion boosts.
>>
>>167577003
>I had so many things to take in consideration
It is Grand strategy after all
>>
>>167577320
how do I make murdering people reliable and safe?
>>
>>167577516
>reliable
Seduce their wives if possible, being someone's wife is a huge plus to plot power against them
If you go into their character screen then open their court tab you can also find who their spymaster is. If at all possible you want him to join in too, when you invite people to the plot get him even if you need to "convince with a bag of gold". I say this because a lot of other characters will also ask for money but they're not worth it, they're more likely to spill the beans by drunkingly rambling (random event) than actually help you with their piddly 3% plot power. Invite people in their court and rival vassals but don't invite too many 1% and 2% for the reason I just noted
You can also take the Intrigue focus which is quite honestly grossly overpowered because you can try killing people over and over for like 10 gold, and there's a 100% chance of kidnapping someone if you try for long enough.
None of these are 100% 'safe' because you might get caught but for the most part getting caught isn't the end of the world, even if you get caught after the fact, as long as you legit removed a threat.

About the ducal titles, the real reason it's dangerous is because if someone is the Duke of Normandy, he can ask for norman lands and you're expected to give him it or else you eat an opinion malus. He cannot ask for this without that title.

>Firaxis suffering from their own success
How about they're suffering from their own failure? Why is Civ VI bad despite Civ V with BNW being good? That's the question you should ask
It's not even a lack of features. It's poor design decisions all around despite having a working version in Civ V. The problem is that every single fucking time game companies seem to think they should reinvent the wheel to pitch "new" features instead of sticking with what works and adding more. Case in point - AoE1 -> AoE2 was basically the same goddamn game with extra features. Sure they changed the units and all but when all was said and done it played fundamentally the same way and there were basically no missing features except the Ruins (which were Relic'd).
What about AoE2 -> AoE3? It didn't even feel like the same fucking game, they changed too many core mechanics, they left out core features like the Random Map. The game died, but people are still playing AoE2. Nobody is playing AoE1.
Fundamentally it comes down to the idea that if you improve a previous installment of a game there is objectively no reason to remain behind unless it's for more or less version-specific reasons like "I want to play as Shang and Rome not China and Franks", which would be like if you were a Venicefag and were waiting for a Venice civ pack for Civ VI.
But if you change it up too much - if you reinvent the wheel, don't take the design lessons of the previous installments, ignore the parts that worked as well as the parts that didn't, remove components of the previous installation - you're going to have problems, people might not move on, or at least they'll wait for you to bring it up to par. You'll be betting on them wanting the new feature so much that they're willing to leave behind a more complete, mature, familiar, and well-rounded game.

why do you faggots still think Civ V was good?
>>
>>167551987
Welp, this is the end. I was 4 turns away from winning the UN election and the game but experienced a repeating crash.

I had some really nice plans within plans too. If I couldn't pull off a safe number of votes I was going to sell off Assur back to my Vassal Assyria for additional votes. I had two spies about to get two techs from Mongolia within 15 turns. And if push came to shove I had 8 atomic bombs ready to wipe out Mongolia forces and had an economy strong enough to purchase four Nuclear Missiles every turn.

Oh well.

>>
>>167592323
Look faggot I'm not going to pull II, III, and IV because that doesn't work with my point as well, since nobody plays II and III and IV is basically in the realm of 'play it for the mods'
The original statement was how nobody was moving on from BNW!CiV, so I gave an argument why it'd be the case
Anyone who both plays BNW and thought BNW!CiV was good, or simply better than Civ VI, can have this argument applied to them.
>>
>>167592492
first, you're replying to multiple persons atm
second, your only basis for comparison is Civ5 and you think that's good,
Firaxis basically lost half its fan basis when 5 came out, 4 was objectively the best in the franchise, balancing both being modern and gameplay
but still you're not even taking into consideration other 4x/strat games, like EL to say the least
here are two examples >>167587941 >>167587615

and btw, Civ 6 is in fact much better in many aspects than Civ 5 ever was, and that's without any dlv even, only thing that ruins the game is some bad design and shitty AI
so to answer your question, no I don't think people will be stuck on 5, and only newfags who actually think its good are stuck on it
>>
>>167593165
>your only basis for comparison is Civ5 and you think that's good,
No anon, I think that a lot of people, including those who started with CiV, think that it is good.

>4 was objectively the best in the franchise
Most people I see playing IV play it for the mods. Now admittedly there's a fucking metric ton of them - me included - but I imagine those are not moving onto VI to begin with, the big dealbreakers like 1UPT, lack of commerce, so on are still there (although the imbecilic global happiness is gone so there's that).
I'm trying to analyze why people are not moving to VI from V.
Stop being so fucking butthurt about it, I'm not saying V is the best 4x game, I'm not even saying it's the best civilization game. I'm saying why I think Firaxis is seeing a lot of "newfags" refuse to migrate.

>Civ 6 is in fact much better in many aspects than Civ 5 ever was
Keyword [apsects], as a whole it is garbage not least because the modding tools are nonextant.

>some bad design
>some
Don't sugarcoat it
Fuck's sake you need look no further than this thread
Who the FUCK is talking about Civ VI here? In the past threads people have talked about V, I occasionally see people asking about mods for IV, the only people talking about VI are the ones who haven't played it or haven't caught up on the news that you are expected to credit the coal miner's wife's pigs.

>>167603690
Yeah, starting that game is just to generate BUG scripts
You have to setup a custom game to actually play it. Honestly I'm not even sure why you need to do that, I never did.

>Always setup the game you intend to play through Custom Game. There are some scenarios and maps and such you can find here that do work but if you're not using one of them, CUSTOM GAME is your destination.
>The game will always default to setting up in the Ancient era unless you specify Prehistoric. You should ALWAYS do this as we have not attempted to debug some known issues with other era starts. Prehistoric is the start we have designed the game for. And it's not the default because we can't seem to find how to make it the default. Not all things are within the modder's reach apparently.

Did you read the entire page? If not read at least the first post and the game setup options posts so you know what they're about.

So I picked up Endless Legend, and good fucking god this is annoying. Two separate games I've been fucking annihilated by the AI just magically having three times my strength in armies and somehow having a functioning economy.

Am I not supposed to build improvements in my cities, and instead pick one or two then just spam military units? Is Dust production the end-all in Endless Legend? I had to throw a twelve hour playthrough out today because I got my ass lit up by the BDSM queen's mages after more or less building my armies for sixteen turns and throwing a compliment her way every three turns (I was sitting pretty on influence), and I'm just baffled. I'm playing the Vaulters, and I'm having a hard time getting the Dust to retrofit, but the soldiers are getting upgraded regularly enough. I'm getting war-dec'd and cleaned off the map by turn 50 or so because even with eighteen armies of Marines in Tier 2 gear (or better) are getting plastered by just whatever the AI brings out.

Even the 'diplomatic' Drakken are right out of the gate wanting to kill me, and since I don't 100% prioritize Dust I can't keep these armies up, even when garrisoned. I know I probably just need to git gud, but how?

It isn't THAT hard to, but the fact that its only saving grace is religion and it DOESN'T get any help with that makes me say it should be low, but maybe not second to bottom.

So what I don't get is why Huns, Mongols, are Venice are so high. Venice is paper, you lose your one city or get embargoed and you are done, Huns basically aren't good after the early eras and Mongols only have Khans to be a saving grace. I feel like Assyria and Russia should be a bit higher. They actually have more late game options than the Huns and Khans.
>>

Venice doesn't work in MP because it has a single point of failure and every knows it but it's good in SP because the AI didn't get the memo
Huns are only good for early rushes but they're so good at early rushes you can literally have two or three extra cities and one or two fewer rivals near you by the time you've been in Classical a while
Mongols have Keshiks too which are legit
Russia should be higher I agree.

Keshiks are good, but they can't carry the ranged promotions over on upgrade. If they converted, it would be better.

Speaking of the Huns, while I do think they aren't good in general, they are troublesome if they are neighbors in the ancient era. Other than bribing them to attack somebody else, how do I deal with them (assuming not another militaristic civ/defensive one like Babylon, Shoshone, etc).
>>
>>167630963
You really can't do shit, they're just that good in the Ancient era. The reason they're considered mid-high tier is because early snowballing leads to end game domination.
The only thing to do is to build up your own military that's the best advice possible if you can't bribe their asses (which doesn't always work anyway).
>>
>>167631149
Yeah. I started a game a while back as Brazil and saw they were my closest neighbor, like, only a city or two's worth of tiles away. Atilla became Hostile almost immediately and started taunting me. I didn't make it.

The thing about early game snowballing for military, is if you don't kill the witnesses, you get 6 other civs gangraping you after the world congress starts meeting. The one game I tried as Atilla I took out 2 Civs no problem, but could only stalemate Russia and at that point the whole world saw me burn through a few cities. Also, Atilla's good stuff is almost all units. The name thing is useless, and animal husbandry to start is okay, but it only gets you so far. Assyria at least has better late game options and gets rewarded for warmongering a bunch of little cities. My favorite thing with Assyria is puppy guarding somebody's settler with 2 seige towers.
>>
Is choosing a map that benefits your civ being cheap? Ex, choosing archipelago as Polynesia?
>>
>>167634183
You don't even need archipelago to take advantage of the map as Polynesia. But yeah, personally, I feel that the only proper map type is Continents, the others just don't feel right to me.
>>
Man with the sophons it seems like going the military route is best, science is better probes, and pacifist is some influence generating buildings

My thoughts on each main map.
> continents should be the default and probably makes the game the most fair
> pangea is okay but shafts civs that have almost anything good about being by the water
> archipelago is kinda fun but has its flaws, and Polynesia might not be broken on it, but it takes the good spots and if you are Polynesia, your exploring time just seems to take forever (although, it takes forever in general)
> the one with long, snaky continents just sucks ass. that's how you get on the edge of one and Attila is between you and the rest of the land
> earth just gives you too much heads up on what is coming, and it seems some civ always gets its own continent, even on large, which isn't fair and having your own continent makes the game a bit too easy

>>167635484
Yeah I'm not a huge fan of earth maps in Civ, they're so tiny. I remember doing a MP game once, it was a large map, and Europe was only big enough for about maybe 3 cities? And these city locations weren't even that great to begin with.

What would be the problem with knocking out an enemy faction with a single brief campaign to seize/raze their capital? Is that not how the Nazis knocked France out of the war in WW2? They blitzkrieged straight for Paris and forced France to surrender unconditionally, effectively reducing them to occupied territory.

I feel like hyperlanes are way safer even though it has almost the same problem, not being able to go through borders.

It is even more beautiful when you don't have to spend 6 turns making a medium ship in your highest production system. I even got the shitty titanium and hyperium weapons just because they cost less hammers to produce than normal ones.
If you go with industry route of his quest you can shit out ships non stop, since it gives you +4 hammers per every single Horatio in your systems.

Anyway, I got done with the current Horatio quest, it's also very short and unfinished.
I feel conflicted about the fact that we are playing as a clone called "Four" and not Horatio Prime himself, I think it would've been a great chance for devs to show us how he thinks, his past and all that stuff.

I want to believe...there are some things that point towards a "sooner" than expected release.

Neither the next europa universalis nor the next crusader kings 2 are listed on steam.

CK2 has a trailer while Eu is still without one.
I was pretty sure CK2 would drop first but now see a Stellaris>CK2>EUIV release.

Stellaris Utopia is listed as "coming soon" and has a trailer.

If we assume they take 1 week per big ascension path dev diary (Psy,Mech,Bio)
They would be done by the 23thrd.

Just in time for a release on the 28th a TUESDAY.

Pure speculation though.....

Use long range missiles. Retreat when you run out of ammo.

You should be able to take out 3 ships for every ship you have, and lose next to none.

Late game has long range cannons that replace missiles as best guns.

The AI doesnt know how to fight, abuse that if you're playing on hard/impossible. But it WILL outpace you in everything else because it blatantly cheats.

Combat in ES2 has nothing in common with EL.
ES2 only has autoresolve but you can pick one card that affects the outcome from a deck.
>>
>>167673313
Ships in ES2 have customisation and lots of options too, but you don't directly control their behaviour in combat, you just select the card that determines their range and behaviour in combat and then watch pretty ships fire at each other. Even though the cards offer some tactical depth depending on different fleet compositions, it's a lot simpler than EL. Still better than Stellaris though.

Yeah, which is why you have so many on your ships that every battle is 99% missiles, 1% ships.

The best one to get asap is the long range single shot missile. I can't remember the name, but its a 3x1 weapon slot, I believe. It wont fit on the tiniest ships. Get the rocket turrets for those.

The reason why it works so well is that the AI almost NEVER upgrades its ships engines. So you're firing at it from across the map, and running circles around them until you run out of ammo and then warp out.

that +20 engi per month and guaranteed 4 living metal deposits in addition to unlocking living metal tech is worth it

that said ringworlds aren't to hard to come by these days with the curator homesystem having one

It is bullshit that AIs can "steal" the ending of a quest, but then I can do the same to them.

precursor questlines should be merged with the leviathan dlc with a guardian leviathan defending the system and in turn its rewards being vastly expanded upon

also if 2 fleets or more are in the system at the time of the fall either the reward gets split between them or you can through event declare war on them over the prize

I'd want them to write a lot of quests for the midgame, 2350-2450 where everything is settled and most of the stars are explored. Diplomatic events with multiple stages between two empires. Have it possible to set science ships to "patrol" to try find new anomalies on explored worlds with a much lower chance of discovery. Political events and quest chains that involve planets in the empire or some new technology that's developed. Like the whole "Neo [speciesname]" event that happens with genetic tech.
>>
Could they remove the doomstack? There's no skill in just accumulating ships and steamroll enemy fleets.
>>
>>167688319
An event chain that turns one of the more established (but not THE strongest) empires that has a fanatic xenophobe trait (or xenophobe, if fanatic is unavailable) into a variant of fanatic purifiers would be nice. Only every planet they conquer turns into a barren world because they 'purify' it from xenos influence by glassing it.

Kind of like a lesser end game crisis that wont trigger FE's into awakening. Though if there's a hippie FE they might step in and 'genetically modify' the species in question by warring them and reverting them back to whatever they were, except making them pacifist xenophiles as well.

I'd like it if the empires values (xenophile/phobe, materialist/spiritualist, militarist/pacifist, individualist/colectivist) were periodically challenged during game play. "God"/extradimensional entity able to perform magic contacts a materialist empire. Xenophile empire has open migration treaty and turns out the new migrants are very incompatible. Militarist/individualist has to decide if it's a good idea try and take away the tactical nuclear weapons citizens have been buying for personal defense.

If you're not thinking about it like a business, it would be more sensible to get a job and do the games on the side. That's not giving up, just common sense. If the games get popular enough to support you finanacially, then full time is an option.

Until then it's just a hobby with delusions of grandeur. You'll get enablers, but enablers are one thing and paying customers are another. Gotta remember that games are delusion generators for the delusion generation. If you get hight on your own supply, you lose. Lotta people who are a lot more experienced and talented than you who aren't making it.

Blowing up stars would be cause for the FE's to step in, though. Which I'd want to avoid for a mid game "crisis."

Another one:
A parasite that affects molluscoid races and turns them into warmongers bent on enslavement, ala the goa'uld. Can lead to an event chain that lets you 'cure' them by killing off all the parasites, or you can just wipe them by purging them/taking a certain planet that the parasites that the worms found (a molluscoid species colonizing said planet could be what triggers said event).

In addition, the infected empire in question also prioritizes attacking other molluscoid species in order to infect them with the same parasite. Non-molluscoid races arent affected.

I wish I knew how to mod stellaris, I have a few neat ideas for event chains.

I hear you. I've been working on games for the last 9 years now so I'm not even sure how well I'd even be able to go back to having a McJob. That's all I had before then but I've been working low-pay hourly retail/service since I was 14 so I know the toll it'd take on me.

Gracefully, all I need is about $600/mo in income to plug up the drain on my savings. From what I've snooped out by looking at titles similar to mine on Steam from various sets of published/unpublished solo/team games, I should be able to make that at least during the sales.

Though the two months before I even see a check from Steam will hurt, as will the I'm expecting two months to even get the game through Greenlight. I've got the savings to tough it out thanks to being frugal - but the summer months are coming and those are decimating for electric bills in Texas.

Likely a society where the authority of the ruling body was absolute to a degree, but the process of selection for it's members was based on something other than birth or privilege. Something that has a lot of power for the people in charge at first sight, but its subject to checks and balances by some other means than responsibility to the public, such as tradition or perhaps family interests. It would have to be a society where social stratification existed, but was not impossible to alter through individual effort.

Ancient China (or hell, modern China) would be an example of Collectivism. The Roman Republic would be an example of Individualism with a martial strain (and a unique kind of xenophobe that replaces ethnicity with citizenship). The Mongol Empire might be an example of something in between. Absolute authority, but positions were generally granted based on merit not family or political connections.

Lost my old as fuck five star veteran scientist who among other things uncovered the secrets of the precursor empire, to a shitty corvette or destroyer or whatever when I sent her to research a treasure trove of wreckage from the war I was fighting with them, really hadn't realised just how quickly the fuckers travelled between systems. Hunted the fuckers across five systems before I cornered them and wiped them out. She was first in my probably last generation of adventurerer scientist who explored almost 50% of the galaxy, a fourth if which was covered in mining droids and space crystals.

I tell myself I was the way for her to go, doing her job until death rather than waste away idling near a spaceport because there was nothing left to explore except beyond the closed borders of rival empires, so when war came along that's where I sent her, to find the enemy secrets so I could tear them apart. I wanna say she died a hero, but I can't shake the feeling my hubris killed one of the finest individuals my empire has yet spawned.

That has nothing to do with how their society was run, patriarchal power was not unique at the time. The idea that military service can grant Roman citizenship to anyone, with all the perks and rights that entails, is an incredibly egalitarian one. Consuls and Dictators (it meant something different then) were reliant upon their own merits and achievements to retain power, not any inherent right to rule. Romans were virulently opposed to the idea of kingship.

That this citizenship right includes a right to vote for a representative, criticise the ruling caste without fear of (official) rebuke and have any say at all on the laws the senate might pass is incredibly individualistic. Pagan tribes had a social order based on custom and lineage, which might be -influenced- by individuals but without the codified means of a formal process of doing so. They might be an example of a lack of individualist/collectivist trait. Obviously it's impossible to sum up every European pagan tribe with that statement.

Most Greek city-states were NOT modelled after democratic Athens, and by the time Rome came to dominate the middle east their major competitor on the Greek peninsular was the Macedonian Kings.

For a Stellaris comparison, you're probably looking at xenophobic/martial/individualist ethos. Except it would be possible for 'citizenship' to override concerns of race on paper, if not in practice.

Also, ALL the planets that are liberated in one war go in the liberated empire, even if they're on different sides of the galaxy. Bear this in mind if you have border autism like I do
>>
>>167711402
The time it takes depends on the number of pops you're doing it to.
If you just want one seed pop that you can subsequently use as a colony stud, make a colony FIRST and then gene mod the 1-pop world after he lands.
>>
>>167710424
Also, if you're using liberation wars for threat-less conquest, the liberated empire will want to ally/vassal with basically anyone next door to it as soon as possible. So watch the diplo screen like a hawk.
If the war ends on the 15th of the month, the new empire won't compute who it likes in the vicinity until the 1st, so make sure you jump in right when the month updates and vasselise it. Otherwise the AI tends to cut its own deals with other AI s by like the 8th.

A new empire each time.

Best way to do it is liberate a couple of planets in one war and then cede planets to the previously liberated empire in subsequent ones.

your pop's ethics divergence have no impact on another pops ethics divergence. Ethics divergence only comes from: happiness, buildings, policies, edicts, the type of government you have, and traits.

I also find that if you purge all pops with unwanted ethics and leave the pops with desirable ethics the new pops spawned will have the desirable ethics too, even if they are in positive ethics divergence. If they remain in positive ethics divergence they will of course change their ethics over time.

Also ethics divergence is calculated every year unless that's been changed in 1.4.
>>
>>167731358
Thank you, kind anon.
That helps me pick better triats (not wasting points on conformist) and chose government types that have better bonuses for what I intend to do.

I was seeing if I could game slavery even harder but it seems that ethics divergence isn't the way to go.

I find it exciting. For example in Europa Universalis 3 I can get guns 50 years before the other fucks can. My armies are smaller though because small nations have an advantage in tech, usually because they don't own large swaths of worthless clay and sand.
But eventually I'll have Napoleon tier troops while they've just gotten a hold of line infantry.

Leave the federation. The only diplomatic relations you should have with the weak is war, vassalage, protectorates (which you should farm for influence), rivalry, and preparations for war.

Federations are reserved for equals to guard your flank, until you no longer need them.

just won a game of civ VI as the aztecs on king, domination in ~1870

started out right next to england and took them over with eagle warriors and got a shit ton of builder slaves, got enough of a tech edge to beat rome and from then on was pretty much unstoppable, stopped my conquest til i got all the luxuries in the modern age for the Aztec luxury combat bonus achievement, never built an encampment the entire game lol

was super fun, AI sucks at war so once you get going conquest is pretty easy

civ vi is way better than civ 5, sure it is less balanced and less content now but at its core its a much better game, 5 was complete shit before the expansions, its a lot better than that.

anyway i have no job and havent been outside or showered in a couple days so im gonna stop playing civ and hopefully find better things to do so i dont spend hours playing videogames lol. my first ever game of civ 3 was as the aztecs, going to leave my last game as the aztecs as well

To put a roughly explain the game, I started as Ice Fairies doing civ building and founding colonies and such, until the Americans who occupied the labyrinth had a civil war in which the Hackers (which are roided with numerous tech and research bonuses) arose as the rebel faction and managed to capture the central city of Scorch-1 and started to snowball out of control because the central labyrinth was likewise a breadbasket full of cool stuff.

Come a hundred turns later, they were rocking Pre-Dreadnought Battleships and Great War Infantry while at best the competition had Ships of the Line and Musketmen, and the rapetrain began as they subjugated basically their entire continent and then Arabia for good measure, exterminating Texas which used to be the southern-most city of the maze. Sent armies to try and storm them, but their biplanes were cutting them apart anyway and galleons couldn't loiter as they'd be sunk if they didn't duck into a fort. Things got worse when one of my vassals un-vass'ld and proceeded to capitulate to the Hackers, while the constant war-weariness was starting to take a toll on production as building troops swapped over to building more bread and circuses.

Come some turns later, and a prompt to switch civs come up; the Portuguese Rebels rebel from the hackers, and with them take a good chunk of their advanced technology. Starting with nothing but a few GWI and a whole lot of savescumming, I managed to recapture the major fairy city of Lampreystan and slowly but surely reclaim the western continent from Hacker rule, endearing myself to the fairies in the process as I liberated their cities. Eventually, Voxere was willing to sue for peace and a truce was made. And so, the Rebels became the Nationalist Junta of Portugal, and later allied with the fairies to form the Alliance. Biding time for the final showdown, which might yet turn anti-climactic as the Hackers balkanized to the point of losing their capital.

Sure as my friend told me its get little better later when you got some likable or competent characters on opponents side but they still serve only to show how heroic Mary Sue is. Also focus switch from them as being the main big bad.

There is also problem with the writing style that I can't kind of feel and its make its unpleasant to read. Dunno why. Maybe translated would it read better.

Guys some ideas how to better Stellaris.
Feel free to laugh and call me a retard.
>Leaders
Separate bonus cap for specific leaders. Like say military republic can have some additional cap for generals or admirals(like cap for all leaders is 10 but 2 first general/admirals are do not count).
Some governments or polices allow or disallow use for specific leaders to take specific positions. For example military government let you use generals or admirals as governors(to speed up ship building or reduce unrest) or put them into science ships or pacifist governments force you to use governors to lead fleets and armies. Which they lack skill.
New traits and skills.
That is small idea and some of it I think I can do.
Bigger idea is to make your pops generate leaders to the pool that then you can hire. Pool is much bigger but you don't get new leaders once you recruit but need to wait until they are generated. Having pop working in Military Academy or University would generate much more leaders points. Having right policies or government would make some leaders more likely to appear.
Any thoughts?

>>167765260
No.
I actually kinda like it as it make sense and its still more viable top go wide than tall.
Just build more labs.
Also more planet mean more navy cap and more minerals and energy for fleet. Techs outside of must have(buildings and drives mostly) are rather irrelevant - especially military ones - just bury enemy with corpses and steal their guns.

It's way too negative about the perfection that is Horatio.

>Horatio the human
>not Horatio The Horatio

>totally insaine
>not misunderstood genius

>can't grow hair bcus of his genes
>not bald because his shiny skull is perfect the way it is and hair is ugly anyway

I give it a Marchio out of Horatio. It's far from perfection, but there was an attempt.

Really, Mind Over Matter and it's Synth and Bio counterparts should have special interactions with the crisis they match up with.

>+50% minerals
>+25% society output

Should I go full mines, full research or split it both ways?
>>
>>167775813
I'd probably split, there's too many good tiles there to waste through suppression
>>
>>167775813
Full mines, use slaves.
>>
>>167775928
Not collectivist or xeno
>>
>>167775813
Full mines.
You want you best planets in your hand and produce minerals or energy.
Your lab planets can be small because you can throw them into sector and slap a governor with bonus to research and sectorised labs don't suffer penalty as mines or energy planets.

What the heck were they thinking with those Enigmatic techs.

The Enigmatic Shields are almost 40% better than Hyper Shields.
>>
>>167777236
>Enigmatic techs.
???
>>
>>167773752

Can't you do that already?

Honestly I'm kind of sad the genetic manipulation is so limited already, I want +5 trait points with full range of engineering from drawbacks to boons (imagine putting a genetic killswitch in your slaves.)
>>
>>167777414

The Enigmatic Fortress is a questline in Leviathan that, when completed, give you a full range of ultra rare techs.

The Enigmatic Deflector gives you +600 shield points, in comparison the Hyper Shields are around +480. The Enigmatic Power Source is a full +20 power better than Zero Point.

I've been thinking about it a lot, but I can't quite actually settle on one particular focus over the others.

Anyone mind helping me? I'm considering a race very analogous to the Necrontyr; weak, prone to disease and death, but have made up for it with an almost total understanding of technology and the higher mysteries of the Cosmos.

The problem I'm running into is what exactly this race would want. For example, I can see them wanting to engineer their ravaged DNA and turn themselves into gods (Biological Path) however I can also see them rejecting their bodies entirely, assuming mechanical or even psionic forms (Mind and Machine.)

Since everyone seems to be going for Machine or Psionic, think I should go Biological and tell you lads how it is?

Sounds like a plan.

>Since everyone seems to be going for Machine or Psionic, think I should go Biological and tell you lads how it is?

What do the Paths offer you, anyway? Can you only build Dyson Spheres as a Synthetic, or genetically engineer races as a Biological?
>>
>>167780434
Dyson spheres aren't related to that path. They're the reward for an ascension perk that lets you make megastructures.

Synthetic offers the ability to turn everyone in your empire into robots, removing the need for food, concerns about habitability and getting that sweet immortality from doing so.
Psionics offer more psionic shit, that Shroud thing that Wiz has been posting on Twitter is one of them and the dev diary tommorow is gonna elaborate on that.
Biological seems to be taking genetic engineering to the next level, I'd assume the basics are more points but I am sure there's gonna be more to it.

Found some space sneks, they'd make some good ground infantry once I get around to uplifting them, need some good war propaganda films to show them that there is nothing better than to die for democracy

also to show them there is more to life than being used as noodles by the titanic life that also inhabit the planet

Easy solution, anon.
Purge everyone who doesn't like you.
>>
>>167783258
But no one likes him.
Oh.
But seriously purging have to big penalty to diplomacy.
Getting hit on relations with 'free' empires is one thing. But getting hit on your own xenophobic vassals or at collective empires who don't care or other xenophobic empires who cheer every xeno dead?
Not likely. Especially if done on local scale or in your own backyard(aka purging some primitives).

I gonna mod some sense into this.

Dude, imagine if Biological allowed you to create life out of nothing - true genesis, or perhaps turn Toxic or Barren worlds into lush paradises with Terraforming.

I want to custom engineer races like they're play-doh like that one speculative science novel featuring the Qu.
