The PLD you see now is a 2.0 tank handling 3.0 content, whereas WAR had to be changed for 2.1 because it couldn't even handle Mountain Buster reliably, nevermind Rotoswipe or Death Sentence. They were lazy with PLD in HW because they wanted to push DRK so much. PLD was good at Ravana EX, then Gordias Savage threw it under the bus

I have been advocating this since day one, and I am hoping its Yoshi's intent. He said no more skill bloat, so any skills they add will match those they remove or less. You have enough of a problem with the fact WHM's overhealing is overhealing in this content, your Clemency does jack all. My static has been with a PLD since Midas Savage, it is still objectively inferior to the other tanks in terms of what it supplies to the party, and it does no personal favours to itself either

I really liked playing paladin, especially during leveling
It felt like it took an otherwise very simple class and made it frantic and exciting because keeping threat isn't always easy
I love fighting with the dps to keep aggro, I love making the decision whether to proceed with my combo or fire off another flash
it's a satisfying experience for me to optimize the threat and make sure nobody ever pulls off, and it just isn't the same when I have easy aoe skills

that said, the threat gameplay can still exist with a more intricately designed tank, and I think paladin has a ton of room for improvement, including making the simple combos a bit more interesting

You guys seem to lack the understanding that it clearing does not change the fact it's outdated and poorly designed. Well, what are you drinking?

Paladin has a number of problems.

1. Block is worthless outside of Sheltron. Any kind of RNG-based mitigation is useless when every hit is either completely trivial or an insta-kill if not mitigated. Any lucky blocks that happen will just lead to the healer over-healing you more. You're not going to mitigate enough from blocks to meaningfully affect the total number of heals that need to be cast. Also, being totally invalid against magic damage isn't helping its case.

2. Cover is completely useless outside of some outdated T13 meta and PVP. The range is terrible. It's invalid against magic. Damage intended to be dealt to non-tanks is typically so trivial that a Stoneskin solves the problem, or is group-wide and gets easily solved with Shields and/or a Medica.

3. Clemency is strictly inferior to Equilibrium. There just aren't situations in the game that require you to be able to patch heal the group like that. Plus it devours your MP at an unholy rate.

4. Sword Oath is just terrible. It's been reworked half a dozen times, and it's still terrible.

5. Stun is useless unless you're doing Ifrit at minimum ilvl. Anything that hits hard enough to matter is immune to stun. Or it will be after the first stun goes off.

6. Shield Swipe is terrible since it is tied to block (and therefore invalid against magical enemies) and also has a cooldown. If it worked like Low Blow where blocking just reset the cooldown, it wouldn't be as bad. Also, Pacification doesn't do anything to NPC's.

7. Spirits Within: there was exactly one mob this expansion that needed to be silenced.

So here's my summary of why Paladin is inferior: they give up a large amount of DPS for utility that doesn't do anything. Utility skills in this game lose a lot of value because content is designed to be beaten by any random assortment of classes that fall into the designated roles (i.e. any 2 tanks, 2 healers, and 4 dps). So content cannot be designed to actually utilize utility skills unless it is something that every job in that category has access to (or several jobs across multiple roles, in the case of stun and silence). For example, you can design a giant tank buster that only Hallowed Ground can soak, because all tanks have a version of it. You can't design something to utilize Cover, because only one tank has it, and then Paladin would become mandatory for that fight.

I say it's a problem with the mentality of those involved. I remember seeing some funny things when Zurvan released and people in this general would take the Soar skip to their grave because they have no clue how to deal with it.

On other servers not plagued by such lunacy the skips whether they happen or not are nice but inconsequential and you would clear it anyways in decent time without even having to worry about the flaming halbred enrage timer.

All the other shortcomings of Paladin could be forgiven if it could deal damage on par with the other tanks. In this game, the best defense is a good offense. DPS trumps all other concerns. Pushing phases to skip mechanics and ultimately kill the boss before either the arbitrary hard-coded time limit or before progressively more difficult mechanics happen is paramount. "Slow and steady wins the race" is completely anathema to this game. So the option that does significantly less damage will always be the "worst" option.

Outside of the initial balances it's a 1/6 for one and 1/6th for the other to have balance spread the second the first one has off. That's a 17% chance for the balances alone and this is before it naturally falls off due to the duration versus the 1+ minute necessary to successfully get balance and then spread it.

So you would have a 1/6th to get balance a 2/6 to spread it and the other person has a 1/6 to get balance and a 2/6 th spread it consistently for the entire fight. At 33.3% per check per successful balance you'd be lucky if you got that for 30% of a fights duration let alone 100%.

Yeah, pretty much. That being said, class balance is honestly better in this game than most. There are exceptions, like in 2.00 when Warrior was completely useless, and in 3.00 when Warrior was absurdly overpowered while AST and MCH were clearly unfinished and untested. Every class is currently capable of fulfilling its role in all content. Some just do it way, way better than others. The LB penalty basically just eliminates ideas like "WAR does 3% more damage than DRK, and a second AST produces 2% more group DPS than a SCH so we will only ever run double WAR/double AST and the other jobs can sod off." (Those exact numbers were pulled straight out of my ass for example purposes only.) You can also do some silly thing by stacking 4 ninjas or 4 dragoons and having way, way more uptime on Trick Attack or Battle Litany than was ever intended.

Straight up class balancing gets things more or less equal. Say, 90% equal. Again, pulling numbers out of my ass. The LB penalty resolves that last 10%.

What's there to prove? There's factors that players are affected by that you sure as shit know the dev team's aren't hampered by.

Outside of the basic there:
Latency
Human reaction
Food and potions

There's the other ones:
Mechanics knowledge
Team composition
The fight itself (a1s v a4s)

He could show that in optimal conditions MCH were great. which they were but that still wouldn't mean shit for shit because nobody is going to be playing in the same conditions that the testing team plays in.

Moving on;
He doesn't exactly have to "prove" much anyways. Given how you and I know how people in the NA/EU react to anything, MCH could top the dps in all of alexander and they'd just make up excuses as to hide their own personal shortcomings.
