Personally I found the tone of Sonic Adventure 2 to be a perfect fit for the series. It felt like an action cartoon for 12 year olds where occasionally it implies some really messed up stuff happening like Gerald getting gunned down by a firing squad for some reason. Stuff like Shadow is overboard, but I think the series having a little more for lack of a better word "edge" to it fits it perfectly. Jak and Daxter pulled it off well enough.

I mean I'd be fine with adventure style if that's what they wanted to do, but I'd prefer a 2D sonic akin to what some of the better sonic hacks, as in, being able to air dash, air dash backwards, spin dash, super peel out, homing attack, maybe add elemental shields and some kind of combat kind of what we see in freedom planet. Imagine the platforming challenges that could be created with a character with such a large range of movement.
I mean the first time I played sonic erazor, the way the control worked blew me away.
It's a shame that sega would never actually make a good decision like that for reasons I can't understand, I just know that a lot of large companies seem to hate making decisions that involve making the game more fun but less like the last one, I've more or less lost all hope in big gaming companies mostly because of this, , luckily you see a lot of stuff like the ideas I mentioned in indie games or romhacks.

They're what the echidnas should've been pre-reboot: A mysterious race lost to time that we got to learn about and have storylines pertaining to, but not to the point where it completely overtook everything else. There's an air of mystery surrounding them, and hints throughout multiple arcs of them and the things pertaining to them.

Also helps that thematically, they feel like they fit in the world of the comic.

Also, the designs of the Trolls themselves are similar, yet distinct enough to the point where they're not clones. Wendy and Naugus look different both from each other and from the trolls in your pic

Ray Dillon was the best colorist, and I generally think ABT is the best of the reboot. Pre-reboot Yardley is good but he's slipped since Spark of Life

At the time Yardley started he was a breath of relatively on-model fresh air after the Dark Ages of faux anime retardation, but as time has gone on and more pencilers have come on board he's come across as somewhat stagnant. Can still bring it, maybe it's a case of his non-Sonic workload but he's phoned it in occasionally.

Peppers is good, don't really have any complaints, though at the same time he doesn't really strike me as really knocking something out of the park. He's the reliable 8/10 of the staff.

abt is great and I'm not just saying that because he comes here, he's not as strictly on-model as others but in a good way and not a "let's pretend we're teenagers on DA after watching babbies' first animu" Dark Ages way. I will say though that layouts are still his biggest weak spot; he's gradually but noticeably improved since he first started but it still crops up from time to time.

Tracy Yardley is one of my favorite artists, besides ABT. Too bad his art style is not as great as it was during the preboot.
Herms is the best colorist hands down, the Sonic vs Deadly Six, despite its poor writing, is visually pleasing to see.
